PE7 Sluggish Compared to PE3

I'm a longtime PE3.0.2 user who downloaded PE7 to see what it's like - I've purchased a AVCHD camera and am curious how it will perform. Before I even tried working with an AVCHD file, I created a simple HDV1080i project and dropped in some HDV1080i captures. Right away, I noticed that PE7 doesn't playback the timeline nearly as smooth as PE3. Even viewing an HD video clip directly from the 'organize' or 'edit' windows is noticably choppy. I created the very same project in PE3 - all playbacks of the same files are great, in the timeline or the media window.
Does the PE7 trail have some performance limitations vs. the full version? Is this latest version that much more processor intensive?
Hardware summary: Win XP, Pentium Core 2 Dual 2.16 GHz, 2GB Ram, dual 250 GB HDD, GeForce 7300 GT 256MB, updated OS & video card drivers. Haven't updated the motherboard BIOS in a while.
Any suggestions to make PE7 more usable? The AVCHD clips are even more choppy but I expected some of that.

Further comparison - when I playback the same 35min HDV captured video clip, PE3 uses 35-45% of the processor resources, PE7 uses 60-75%.
Have others experienced the same? I want to upgrade to get the addtional features PE7 offers but I don't want the big performance hit. HD video of any kind isn't working for me with PE7 and my hardware.

  • PE7 Won't Open PE3 Files

I've just moved from PE3 to PE7 and for the most part I'm having mixed results. One problem has occurred. Of the 27 prel files created with PE3 that I have, five of them fail to open with PE7. I get the following error message: "Sorry, a serious error that requires Adobe Premiere Elements to shut down has occurred. We will attempt to save your current project." Why should this happen and what can I do to correct it. I'm running on 3.2 GHz Pent4 with 2.5 MB of RAM. Thanks for your help.

I agree. Fortunately, Adobe *usually* offers a great deal of backward compatibility in most of its products. As I only have PE4, I cannot comment on PE's embracing of backward compatibility. PPro was an exception, as I had to work on that much older stuff. Had to learn, while doing, that it was possible - and it was.
With PS, I still have one machine with PS4 on it, because of one client's client and one project that I do about once per year. PS changed the way it handled Spot Colors and also how it Exported to TIFF just enough to force me to retain this old version - it just did what my client needs for this one project.
I always finish what I am working on with the version of whatever program I'm using. That's why Audition 3 is still in the box, until I finish a bunch of stuff in Audition 2.
I also make it a habit of keeping the previous version on a machine, especially if there's been a big change in the interface. If a client calls and needs it "yesterday," I don't want to be hunting around to see where Adobe moved the such-and-such. When I get MYSELF up to speed with the new version, I'll usually delete the previous, with the above example a glaring exception.
Will be interesting to see how PE7 does/does not handle older Projects. I would have assumed that the biggest incompatibility would have been between PE3 and PE4, because of the major interface changes. I would also assume (there's that word again!) that PE4 to PE7 would not be that big a deal, though am standing by to be proved wrong.

  • Aperture sluggish compared to Iphoto

I've been playing with Aperture for a couple of weeks and am finding that often it is very sluggish with very basic functions. When I delete a picture, it takes about five seconds. The pointer spins and finally it deletes. When I adjust the exposure slider, it takes a few seconds before it shows up on screen. Is Aperture just sluggish or could it be something I can do to fix this? I have 4gb RAM.

Open Activity Monitor and watch CPU usage and check for Page Outs.

  • PE7 unable to recognize Canon HV20 as High Definition

    Hello Everyone:
Unfortunately like some of you that probably want to try your hand at high definition editing, I just bought PE7 a couple of days before the announcement for PE8. For some reason I find that PE7 (and my previous PE3) cannot recognize my Canon HV20 as the high definition camera that it is.
I can easily import regular dv-avi from this Canon but when trying to import the files as HDV, it does not recognize the camera.
The camera is connected via firewire and is recognized as 'DV' Camcorder but not as an 'HDV' camcorder. The footage has been recorded in High defintion 1080.
I hope that one of you with this type of camera can help.
On another note, is it possible to record into PE7 with HDMI?
    Thanks,
    Lucio

    Lucio,
Perhaps a different capture card is needed or Vista Ultimate (instead of the Home Premium that I have).
A FireWire connection should be all that you will need. No "capture card" would be involved.
There don't seem to be many setting available for transferring beside an 'AV-DV' on-off (which I keep on).
Because my Canon is an SD-only unit, I can't really check its manual to help you. This line puzzles me a bit. What happens if you set this to OFF? Considering the number of menu options and switches that I have on my SD camera, I'd have expected your HD/SD unit to have more possible settings, but maybe I'm wrong and Canon has simplified things a lot.
    Good luck,

  • InDesign 5.5 Sluggish Redraw

We just started using ID 5.5 and the copy-paste function, redraw, moving items, etc. have all been very sluggish compared to ID4. In 4 I used to have the PreFlight on, Typical Display Performance on, Live Screen Drawing set at Immediate and my Display Performances set to Raster-Proxy, Vector-Proxy & Transparency-Medium.
    I'm running 10.6.8 on a 2 x 2.8 GHz Quad Intel with 6GB 667 MHz. I am running two 30" displays.
In 4 I could copy paste, moving items on a page, switch pages and it would keep up with me. I had enough horsepower before with 4 so I don't think that's the issue. I want to keep all of my Display setting the same as before and should be able to with 5.5. What am I missing, if anything. Would Lion help this?
As a side note, and I'm not sure this is related to the sluggish redraw, but LOTS of times when I grab an item to move it and let go of the mouse (items) and it looks like its going to release/drop it, it jumps one way or another. It acts as if I did not let go of the mouse. Very frustrating. So far these items listed above have actually made my upgrade a step backward in my workflow. It takes longer to work now.

Live Screen Redraw was not introduced until CS5, so you had no setting for it in CS4. What you are describing is faily7 typical for older hardware with Live Screen Redraw set to immediate. Change it to Dealyed and it will have the same behavior you are used to from CS4 -- Click and hold before dragging to get a live draw on object move.

  • Premier Pro CS6 Very Sluggish

    Good Day.
    I'm running PP CS6 on a mostly home-built PC under Win 7 Pro, v.6.1.7601, Serv Pack 1, build 7601.
    System is a64 bit Intel Core i7 970 @ 3.GHz, 3201Mhz, 6 Cores, 12 Logic
    24GB RAM
    NVIDIA Quadro 4000 w/2GB, Driver is 9.18.13.697
Internal HDD is a 10KRPM Velocerapter (as I recall)
External drives are a 4TB Glyph ForteRaid via eSata.
My media is footage direct from my Canon 5DM3 - no transcoding.
My problem is my PP timeline is VERY sluggish (compared to what I'm used to in Sony Vegas Pro and FCP 7).  It can take a half to a full second for an action to happen.  For example, if I click on the edge of a clip to trim it, it can take that long to register the click, and then again that long to move with my mouse.  Similarly, if I click on the timeline to reposition the CTI (yes, I'm a bit OldSchool), it can take a full second to catch up with me.  Same with playback.  Once it starts playing, I get great fps, but it's just getting there that's the issue.
I have NOT yet tried transcoading the footage to Cineform or similar, but from EVERYTHING I've read, this kind of footage should be zero problem for CS6.
If you would be so kind as to guide me as to what I might look at to make my system a bit more snappy.
Also, I live in Southern California.  Are there any reputable Adobe Gurus out here that I can take my system to (as mentioned, it's homebuilt) where they can "tune me up" and see that I'm running everything in the most efficient manor?  I have some good projects upcoming (90 min HowTo videos, etc) that I would very much like to be running at peaque efficiency with.
Thanks very much for any and all suggestions, thoughts, ideas and guidance!

Ok... just for you I rebooted to Win7 to test.
    I have a 42 minute Timeline with a few
cuts back and forth between two AVCHD sources.
One is the sample from ExactImage that has been confirmed
as being affected by the (now fixed) AVCHD bug in CS6.
The other is a sample provided by Fuzzy Barsik.
Both clips can be found for download in this thread:
CS6 / AVCHD / Spanned Clip Bug / What Cameras
    And Media Types Are Affected?
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/5596038#5596038
When I jump back and forth in the Timeline from cut to cut
and immediately hit play, I don't see the lags you describe.
    I am running CS6.0.5.
    note:
    I don't have MPE enabled:

  • CS4 running extremely slow compared to CS3

I installed Photoshop Extended CS4 64bit. I opened a 24mb PSD file, there is some text with some outer glow when I move it I get horrible redraw. CS4 just feels sluggish compared to CS3. My system is not that bad, e6600, 4GB, 8800GTS 640, Vista Home Premium x64.
Anybody have any ideas? I have updated to the latest drivers for my GPU. I am considering just a reformat and install.

The first thing I did was update video drivers.
To describe the behavior in a little more detail: when zoom-scrolling in several steps, the scrollbars redraw, as if they're receiving the zoom but the canvas isn't. If I continuously zoom in and out with the mouse, and never stop moving it for about 1/4 second or more, the scrollbars keep jittering around and the image never redraws at all; that only happens when I stop moving the wheel.
This feels like an optimization for slower systems: when a potentially repeating input happens (like the mousewheel), the display isn't updated until they stop happening for a while. That's useful on slow systems where redrawing the display may actually be slow enough to interfere with the interface, but it definitely should not be happening on a modern system that's more than capable of redrawing the canvas faster than the inputs are repeating.
Also, redrawing in general feels slow: changing images (via tabs, control-tab, or the window menu) has a visible delay, where CS3 is instantaneous. (Maybe Photoshop is detecting this slowness, and activating an optimization like the above as a side-effect.)

  • Clicking/switching tabs and menus has sluggish/slow performance.

Clicking or switching through tabs has sluggish performance. Going through Menus and Options is sluggish too even with one blank tab opened. I doubt that it is my laptop because browsing through files and folders is fast and immediate. Google Chrome has a huge difference in performance.

Having the same problem. After LOTS of clicking and experimenting, here's what I think I've found:
    # The tab performance when not maximized was much better.
    # Outside of safe mode, the Add-ons tab appears to be FAR more sluggish than any other tab. No specific extension or plugin is slowing it down. It simply lags.
    # Switching between Mozilla sites seems to be slightly sluggish compared to switching between tabs for other sites
    # Disabling the "Tab Utilities" extension (ithinc) made the performance when maximized equivalent to the non-maximized performance. This leads me to believe that the difference between the two is caused by this plugin. The Add-ons Manager tab, and Mozilla sites were still relatively slower.
    # Disabling all other extensions offered no additional improvement, but, strangely, starting in safe mode did. While inside safe mode everything is super snappy.
    # I have a sizable list of extensions, including a large number of disabled extensions (most of which I can't "remove" because they are from 3.6)
The time periods on #5 are very small, on the order of perhaps 80-100 milliseconds. Just long enough that you do a double take and wonder if it was really slower, or just your imagination, but then when you compare against changing tabs in chrome, it's clear that you aren't crazy. There is no noticable difference between safe mode and Chrome, but there IS between non-safe-with-everything-disabled and Chrome.
Is it possible that this is caused by some sort of broadcast to all plugins about the tab change? If so, could this broadcast be completed asynchronously, or else AFTER the tab switch? This is really a perception issue. To feel "fast" to the user, the click should result in instant visual feedback. If my plugins want to know something about the change, I'm satisfied with letting them wait until after '''I''' find out about it.

  • Bridge EXTREMELY sluggish (CS3)

I am running Bridge CS3.  I have a sub-directory with 134 JPG images in it and no sub-directories off of it.  In addition to most operations being quite sluggish, when I select 'Click to view items in current folder & its sub folders', there is an EXTREME delay on the order of 5 minutes before it displays the 134 images.  Am I doing something wrong?  I have a very large disk drive, so I have allowed Bridge to generate the largest amount of cache.
Shouldn't things be running faster than this?
I might add that this delay remains once I return to normal view and then go to the 'All Subfolders' view again.  It's no faster the second time around.
    Thanks, Gary

I think that YOU have the wrong concept of cache.  Having been a
programmer for over 30 years, I can tell you that it is indeed intended
to improve performance.  Otherwise, why have it?  If you can compute
something just as fast on-the-fly, then why store it in a cache file
that has to be read later?
Much of Windows is built around caching disk accesses to improve
    performance.
No, my hard disk is not fragmented...It is almost 100% contiguous.
I did have the cache slider set all the way to the right, but that has
    been corrected.
I do know that Adobe is a memory hog...Even worse than Micro$oft!  But
it will be a while before I can afford a 64-bit Windows Computer.
In the meantime, compacting the cache speeded things up over 100-fold.
Bridge is still sluggish compared to other programs that I use, but I am
just going to have to live with it with my present resources.

  • Firefox 3.6.13 won't log onto gmail or google accounts, plus issues with hotmail

Running 3.6.13 on Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. Since 3.6.12, I've had hit-or-miss issues being able to log onto my gmail (no, not a password issue). When I tried loading gmail (either through the unsecure or the https version), the connection would often time out, with Firefox telling me the connection was interrupted and/or had been reset. Hotmail would load, but if I selected multiple messages to move or delete, it wouldn't work, and a notice would pop onto my hotmail session, saying that I wasn't connected to the internet.
So I tried Chrome, and the gmail issue wasn't a problem in Chrome. But, sure enough, the Hotmail thing was still an issue in Chrome.
After running through all the suggestions I could find here and elsewhere--including deleting cookies, cache, etc., and creating a new profile, and running in safe mode, and moving to Firefox 4 beta (same issue as 3.6.x), and a total uninstall & reinstall of Firefox--nothing worked. In fact, after upgrading to 3.6.13, gmail wouldn't load at all. I couldn't even log on to any aspect of my google accounts--so, no docs, no calendar, etc.
So I started over, with a system wipe & reinstall of the OS. After initial install of Firefox, it *seemed* to have solved the problem. But soon after--and this was before adding any customizations other than Adblock Plus (which I have disabled on any google domain)--the problem returned. I ran through the troubleshooting again (e.g., deleting cache, cookies, creating new profile, etc.). No luck. Then I realized the culprit might be... JAVA!
Uninstalled java, and lo! and behold, gmail loaded. But hotmail still was problematic. And gmail was still hit-and-miss, and loading slowly when it did work.
So I went to my work computer, which is also running Win 7 Pro 64-bit, and copied all my Firefox files (install directory, profile, etc.) over to my home computer. Y'see, my work computer--despite having all the same settings and software--has no problem with gmail or hotmail. Well, those same settings applied to my home computer still were problematic. And no, it's nothing to do with my home network setup--which hasn't changed since before I started having these issues, anyway.
So I did a complete uninstall of Java on my home system, and voila! Gmail works, doesn't take a whole lot of time to load (though it's still sluggish compared to my work computer). Hotmail is still buggy, but hey--it's hotmail.
Unfortunately, when I then installed OpenOffice, Java was re-installed (and I'm not sure how essential having a standalone java install is for OpenOffice, so I'm holding off on any uninstall) and now I'm back to hit-and-miss gmail.
Long story short, there is something in java (and I've tried version 21, 22, and 23) that is messing up Firefox when it comes to gmail, google accounts, and hotmail. Chrome is not affected by this in gmail or google accounts, but has issues in hotmail. IE8 isn't affected in google or hotmail.
I hate IE8, and I'm not sold on Chrome. Don't drive me away, Firefox.
Prior to my OS wipe & reinstall, other sites that use java--primarily for file uploading, like flickr & photo finishing businesses--were not working with Firefox 3.6.13 or Firefox 4 beta.
Again, clearing cache, clearing cookies, creating a new profile, running in safe mode, uninstalling any individual and/or all add-ons and extensions... none of these was the answer to this problem. Even a fresh OS install didn't quite fix it. Java seems to be implicated in the problem, and I'll be posting this issue over at Oracle's forums, too.
Other computers I have on my home network are affected by this issue, as well, but not all of them, and not to the same degree.

I also have this problem and it just started in the last week or so. It seems to be dependent on my home network and the problem only exists with firefox. I have used chrome and IE8 with no issues. I can verify tomorrow that it only exists in my network but one thing I was able to test is that the problem exists even on my linux boot. I am totally dumbfounded with this problem and I can't find anything that will allow the gmail page to load. All other pages I have tried load fine, all be it a little slower than normal but they load. If anyone knows of a difference between firefox and all other browsers on how it goes through the router I would appreciate the info cause I don't know of any differences.

  • Best specs to run Photoshop CS6 on a MacBook Pro.

    Hi,
I am considering a MBP for all my photoshop work. Currently using Photoshop CS6
From 2007-2010 I had my old MBP (late 2006 model). Then in 2011 I was using the 2011 iMac, 2.5ghz, 4gb ram. I sold the iMac as I felt more comfortble with the laptop in terms of working anywhere and anytime. Also for some reason I just strangly enough found the iMac a bit sluggish compared to the smooth performance I had with my old MBP. I mean the iMac is fast, way faster than my old MBP, but sometimes the mouse is just stuck there and i feel annoyed that I cant get moving on as i am waiting for 'something' thats really not there... However I do think that it may have been due to the wireless bluetooth mouse that I was using... but not sure.
I run psd files that have a large number of layers and can reach a size of 3-4gb per file while processing and when saved and closed upto 2gb. I rarely use filters, but when i do, its mainly the blur filters and then sometimes the others.
    15"
I am considering the 15" MBP base model but bump up the RAM to 8gb... I wish it were more than 8 though...
and getting a SSD drive of 128gb... too expensive other wise and this is enough for my work files as I have 2 additional backups on external HDs.
    and VRam of 512gb
with an anti glare display... as the glossy is just plain killing me (experienced on my old iMac).
    13"
I like the size & portability of the 13", but the lack of a dedicated VRAM is putting me off. I could always get an external display later if the need be, however what about VRAM... its shared right? How will that affect CS6 performance?
So any suggestions regarding my choice of specs. I would like to really bump up the RAM but the only option i have is 8gb. Also I hope to use this system for another 3-4 years alteast if it does not have any other issues.

Is the 128g drive just a scratch drive?  I may be marginal if you use big files and lots of layers.  Best to have seperate internal physical drives for scratch and program files.
VRAM of 512g is considered min. now.  Can you get 1 gig?
Personally 15" is the smallest I would go.  Am old and a 24" is better viewing for me.

  • Photoshop CS4 Experience, Problems & Questions

    Hi all,
i just installed my Production Suite Premium on the following System (fresh install, clean System, no other versions of Photoshop):
    Intel E8500 Dualcore
    Nvidia Geforce 9800 GX2 (Driver Version 178.24)
    3 GB RAM
    Windows XP Professionel SP3
Photoshop has its own Scratchdisk assigned with at least 50 GB free Space.
I know that the 9800 GX2 is considered to be a "Gaming-Card" but as a freelance artist i work for the game-industry on many occasions and I need a decent gaming hardware to test what I am working on. As far as I know, the card meets all requirements for CS4 and Nvidia tells me, that their GPU's are perfect for CS4. (wasn't a problem with any version before, I use Photoshop AND Nvidia-Cards since Photoshop 4)
Here are the things that bug me:
    - Photoshop disables the OpenGL Features on random occasions, stating, that it has encountered a problem. This happens either in Two GPU-Mode or One-GPU-Mode.
There's no obvious reason for any errormessage, because IF Open GL is activated it seems to work pretty good, zooming and rotating works quite well and fast. I noticed, that the problem happens either after saving my file or when i open photoshop.
    - Photoshop crashed on several occasions mostly concerning heavy transforming of multiple layers. It simply didn't respond anymore in the midst of the transormation-process.
My guess is, that this is also linked to the GPU/Driver. System-Memory is checked, GPU works like a charm in all other applications. CS3 has not once crashed in one year, so i guess it has to do with the changes made in CS4.
Strange thing is, that even with open GL deactivated, the above written problems occur. I would have thought, that with OpenGL dectivated, Photoshop would somehow become kind of CS3 again, but it seems, there had been to much changes to simply disconnect photoshop from it's new OpenGL interface.
Apart from these two Problems, Photoshop CS4 is doing ok. It feels kind of sluggish compared to older versions, but that might also change with some new drivers.
Sad thing is, that the rotate canvas feature and the extended moverange for images, the main reasons why i upgraded to CS4, are only working with
OpenGL activated. I really hope there will be a fix in the near future.
There are other questions concerning PS CS4's usability:
    - The Scale-Brush Feature uses alt + right mouse buttons, what seems kind of strange when using a stylus (Even more when using a stylus without buttons like the wacom layout-marker).
I would prefer another combination of keyboard shortcuts plus stylus movement ctrl + alt for example. so far i have not found a way to remap the keys. Am i missing something? Or is this impossible?
    - Is there a way to get window behavior back the way it was in CS3? The new way of handling windows is ok, but i liked the old one better. If i disable "floating windows docking" there's no way to maximize a window INSIDE the photoshop workspace. The maximize button on top of every window is right now completely useless because it maximizes the window AND gets rid of all the menus and palettes. I don't see why i want to do that.
That's it. I hope this is useful either for the guys at adobe or for other users. Every new Photoshop-Version has had its problems, i hope that these will just be dealt with like the ones before.
    All the best,
    Pickman

Photoshop CS4 does cause crashes. I can vouch for that too. When it happens, the first instinct is almost always to assume that something is wrong with the computer and start from there. Comments to this effect are prominent in many threads. It is also Adobe's prevalent approach. So people experiencing these problems will tend not to post on these forums. Statements like 'because there are only a few posts, a significant number of people are not experiencing [these] problems' are therefore unfounded. There simply has not been time yet for people to resolve potential hardware/system problems.
In my case, I started experiencing unexplained crashed with CS3 in July (see below) but it was only when Adobe admitted that they could be partly to blame that I posted my experiences (elsewhere) on this forum.
Anyway, to cut a long story short, I have installed Photoshop CS4 on a newly reformatted HDD containing a fresh clean installation of Windows XP/SP3, fully patched, with everything working hunky dory, and no legacy installations of Photoshop or other CS software to worry about. All the same PS CS4 keeps crashing. The symptoms are unexplained total freeze ups occurring at random. I may get several hours use, sometimes a lot less, before I am forced to reboot and start all over again. Certainly the ability to do any useful work is severely compromised, and yes, the first inclination is to blame the hardware or system installation.
The thing is I had been chasing a similar, probably related, problem with CS3 (possibly caused by cloning my system drive, see http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.59b6bd8d/ ) while Photoshop was still activated, so I have had several months head start over anyone who may now be experiencing similar problems with CS4. As a result, Dell, whose support has been great throughout, have replaced just about every component under the hood of my PC, certainly everything that could be causing a problem. (GPU, CPU, memory, MB, PSU, disk controller, disk cables...). As a result, I am running a virtually brand new computer. Hardware and system problems have been all but eliminated. I have all the latest drivers for everything. It is virtually a brand new computer!
Yet PS/CS4 keeps crashing for no reason that can be established. Adobe have given me lots of homework to do to try to find out what affects it or remedies there are. It is all very tedious, but so far, nothing...
I am coming to the conclusion that there must be something intrinsically wrong with PS/CS4 that makes it incompatible with some systems and software installations, but not necessarily because of any fault with the latter. I have to say that, after initially trying to push me away, Adobe are being very helpful and clearly want (need?) to get to the bottom of this. The trouble is that when the system locks up, it is completely and utterly paralysed, so any diagnostic and error reporting systems are inoperative. This suggests something beneath or beyond Windows, and, if it is not hardware, this points the finger of blame squarely at the activation software, which uses rootkit technology. (Would this be the same on a Mac, I wonder?)
For the record, my system is a Dell Precision 370 desktop with Dell/Phoenix BIOS A08, 3.2GHz Pentium 4 CPU, Intel 925X chipset, 2MB ECC SDRAM, Nvidia Quadro FX3450 graphics, 2x Seagate 146MB Cheetah 5.5k disks (SCSI) in non-RAID configuration. From the limited experience I have had, it seems perfectly capable of running the software (apart from when it crashes, of course.)

  • Don't understand how to enable OpenGL?

I just installed Photoshop CS4 around a week ago and as many have already said it feels pretty sluggish compared to the CS2 that I upgraded from.
I get the message "photoshop has encountered a problem with the display driver, and has temporarily disabled GPU enhancements..." which essentially disables OpenGL and I am sure probably has some adverse effects.
I have a modern up to date computer so I don't see what the issue is. Whenever I try to enable it when I restart it tells me to either search for updated drivers or gives me the error. I hate thinking I paid all this money for something I am not getting optimal use out of.
    Thanks for any help
    Specs:
    Windows XP SP3
    Directx 9.0c
    4GB Ram
    Quad 9450 CPU
Nvidia 8800GT 512MB video card (which is on their supported list)
Most up to date video drivers you can get 178.24

I have a very basic 1600x1200 resolution which is pretty standard for a non wide screen setup.
I just deleted my CS4 settings file at startup as described by adobe's help files as they said it might be holding onto old info. I don't get the initial error now and I am getting some changes (no more flickering when moving the files around, and there are smooth transitions now between zooming and moving) so I am assuming this is the OpenGL feature set?
I still do get a popup on load however that says "to download your latest video drivers please visit..."
I wish adobe provided a utility that tests your functionality (much like direct x and some video games do) and would issue a pass or fail and if so give an explanation.

  • Slow iMac (Yosemite), good etrecheck report/specs

    Hi all,
Hoping one could help me out with the following question. Why feels the iMac late 2012 slower than my 6-7year old unibody MBP?
I know there are a lot of topics passing by that are quiet similar and I've tried most of the solutions but that didn't change anything for me.
Apple hardware test, SMC reset, PRAM reset, repair permissions,... and almost everything else I could find on this forum didn't work. I can't really remember this iMac ever working smoothly as it should be but because it has never been used very often, I kept ignoring it.
Once an app like Safari, Mail or iTunes is launched, which can take 10 seconds, or longer when awake from sleep, it's usable. But when switching between apps, using spotlight, clicking on top right menu items like dropbox or adobe CC-menu or doing a bit "heavier" work in Photoshop or Indesign the beach ball appears sometimes or it all goes with a slight 2-3 seconds delay that makes it feel slow. They seem to appear randomly but especially after rebooting or waking from sleep, it all goes too sluggish compared to the old MBP or iMacs we use at work with lesser specs and the same HDD.
I did a clean install before switching to Yosemite because Mavericks gave somehow the same problems. It did make the iMac a tad faster but not as fast as it should be. I know "fast" is a subjective matter but compared to other Apple computers, mine is too slow.
If anyone could help me solve this ongoing problem, he or she'd make my day.
Here's the etrecheck report, now the page-outs are at 0 but that might be because I didn't do any heavy tasks since rebooting.
Recently I've added some RAM after having a high number of page-outs (5-6GB) but overall speed stayed the same since the update:

  • Document Resizing question - InDesign CC

In previous versions of InDesign that I've used, if I had something centered on a 12" x 18" page (so centered at 6" x 9"), I could decide to change the document setup size to a different sized paper, for example 13" x 19".  When I would do that, it would basically add 1/2" to all 4 sides evenly and my art would remain centered with a new point of 6.5" x 9.5".  When I do this in InDesign CC, my artwork stays at the 6" x 9" and is no longer centered.  Is there a preference setting or something I can do to fix this and make it add or subtract my new page size evenly to keep my art centerd??
    I'm using a Mac, OS X 10.6.8.
    Thanks in advance!

A discussion like this had been posted before, and as I do research, I also found out that some Adobe InDesign users is already aware of this. A related topic for this one is here:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/5445588#5445588
    And other website:
    http://idsecrets.wpengine.com/resize-page-from-upper-left-corner.php
So, lets just hope that adobe include a fix for this since adobe is already working out an enhancement since InDesign CC is also sluggish compare to adobe InDesign CS6.
