PE7 startup problem : MSVCR80.DLL
Hello to everybody,
first i'd like to say thanks for reading this posting.
I'm new here and my first posting is about a problem with my Premiere Elements 7. Unfortunately...
I'm not a "professional" user of PE 7, i'm just doing some editing of home videos from time to time
and the program worked fine for me til 2 week ago.
I know, the system I'm using is rather basic for video editing but it has always worked so I don't understand
why it's not working anymore.
My sytem here is a
AMD Athlon 64x2 4200
Windows XP home SP3, 3GB RAM
Nvidia GeForce 7300LE 128MB,
onboard Realtec HD Sound
C:-Drive is a IDE 80GB HD (with windows and premiere Elements 7 installed to (34GB free space)
D:-Drive is the working drive to store any other data (500GB SATA HD).
The system is up to date with all windows updates and I also have installed the newest drivers for sound and video card.
I haven't used the PE 7 for a couple of months but when I started the program 2 weeks ago I got an error message that the
program has crashed cause there's a problem with MSVCR80.dll.
The program starts to load normal, I can see the "splash"-screen (I thinks that's the name adobe calls that window) and I can
see that the program loads all the plugins til "Wave_Warp.AEX". I few seconds later the program crashs with an error message
that there is a problem with the module MSVCR80.DLL (Modver:8.0.50727.4053 offset: 00008aa0).
I searched the knowledgebase to fix the problem and found some articles retated to this fault and followed all the instructions
but without success.
This is what I have done so far:
Updated the Realtec Sounddriver and Nvidia video driver to the latest version. => No success
trashed the preference files = no success
uninstalled PE7 and installed it again => no success
uninstalled all Adobe products on the computer and installed them again => no success
uninstalled all Adobe products again, cleaned the Windows registy and installed again => no success
made a fallback to the old Realtec and Nvidia drivers I'm sure the program worked with = no success
i learned by searching the net to find a solution for my problem that msvcr80.dll has something to do with
VC++ 2005. So uninstalled all the VC++ 2005 related updates on the the computer and reinstalled them.
=> again without success.
I copied the MSVCR80.DLL from the PE7 CD to the PE7 program directory and also to the system32 directory
=> again without success.
I looked at the PE7 manifest file and noticed that the entry there points to a MSVCR80 file version ending with ".762"
but the error message shows that the fault comes from a MSVCR80 version ending with ".4053".
I searched the /Wsxs directory and I found out that there are about 5 differnt versions of MSVCR80.DLL installed.
I have no idea why the manifest file points to ".762" but the ".4053" is loaded.
Now I'm at the end of my knowledge and dont know what to try next.
I guess a complete new installation of Windows would fix the problem but I really dont like this idea.
Maybe you guys here have another solution to fix the problem.
Any help would be very welcome!
Best regards
Jens
Thanks for the thorough post, Jens. Unfortunately problems with Premiere Elements 7 on an XP machine are virtually unheard of, so I'm not sure hwo much more we can suggest, since you can't even get a Welcome Screen.
First, go to Windows Update and click Custom to ensure you have even the non-critical updats.
Then to go Apple.com and download the latest Quicktime.
Then give your C drive a good defragmenting. 34 gig is enough free space -- but that free space frags prettty easily and, when it does, the program can't find the large chunks of space it needs.
If all of that fails to fix things, the only possible answer is that you've got a program conflict of some kind or some kind of spyware or malware at work. And that can be very difficult to troubleshoot. (If you right-click on your Windows Task Bar with no programs open and open your Task Manager, how many processes does it show running? It shouldn't be as many as 50.)
By the way, if you'll do a Google search on that driver, you'll see it's a problem with Windows, not Premiere Elements. See if this article helps.

I was told to update iTunes. I did and it failed. Then every time I tried to open iTunes I get the following message: "The program can't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem." Then I get the following: "iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (windows error 126)." I have uninstalled and installed iTunes a couple of times with no luck. I cannot even access iTunes support

After iTunes requested that I download latest version on PC it now will not open. 2 error messages appear. first: The program can't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem. second: iTunes was not installed correctly please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 126). I have tried reinstalling a number of times and restarting computer but no luck.
This happened to me today as well post installing the latest version of itunes. I did a search on google for the error and came across a recommendation to :
Note: Start Windows in Safe Mode to complete any of the following steps if you're unable to access Windows normally due to the msvcr80.dll error.
If, and only if, you're receiving the msvcr80.dll is missing error when you open Apple iTunes, do the following: (skip this step if your msvcr80.dll error is occurring with a different program)
Uninstall from Windows the following five programs in this order: iTunes, Apple Software Update, Apple Mobile Device Support, Bonjour, and finally Apple Application Support. If you have iCloud, remove it as well.
Uninstalling these programs in Windows is done from an applet in Control Panel called Programs & Features (in Windows 8, 7, or Vista) or Add or Remove Programs (in Windows XP).
Note: Songs and playlists in iTunes will not be removed when you uninstall the iTunes program or any of the other, already-mentioned Apple programs. If you'd still like to back them up, they're usually located in the My Music folder in Windows.
Download the latest version of iTunes from Appleand note the location you're saving it to so you can find it once it's done.
Run the iTunes installation as an administrator. If you're not sure how to do that, see How Do I Open an Elevated Command Prompt? for help. That procedure shows you how to open the Command Prompt program as an administrator, but the steps are essentially the same for anything, including the iTunes installation package you just downloaded.
A general overview of removing and reinstalling iTunes can also be found here on Apple's site but the above procedure seems to work better in this particular situation. -
I am having a problem updating itunes to the latest version on my windows xp i get the error message 126 and the banner that says this application has failed because MSVCR80.dll was not found. anyone have a fix suggestion? thanks

I was given notification to upload the latest version of itunes recently, so I clicked installed. However it has since corrupted my itunes and I get the error message:
"This application has failed to start because MSVCR80.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem".
In poor timing, I have also accidently damaged my phone and have a new one to restore it to an old back up.
It is because of this I am reluctant to completely delete itunes off my computer and start again for fear of losing my back ups.
Is there another way to fix iTunes so I can open it again?
ThanksHey I finally got an older vesion of itunes to work!!! 10.7 x64 for windows 7
After uninstalling all apple products even quicktime
I had to delete everything from (program files, and program files x64, program data,)
And all downloads from apple, and I went in to search deleted other stuff from apple, and itunes
But definently not my itunes library and Playlist
Down loaded 10.7 x64 for windows 7, but checked (do not start when done)
Then I emptied my recycling bin and restarted my PC
I ran geek tech tool box same as reg cure pro, also PC Tools registry cleaner, and CC Cleaner
Then I emptied my recycling bin and restarted my PC
And wallah... It finally works, and I Love the older version anyways.

I recently tried to download the latest version of iTunes, but an error occured during the process. It was recommended that i reinstall iTunes to attempt to correct that problem. After I attempted to reinstall, an error came up with the title "iTunes.exe - Unable to locate component." the body of the error message read "This application has failed to start because MSVCR80.dll was not found. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem." When I click "Ok", another error message pops-up reading "iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 126)". I tried reinstalling iTunes 3 times now, each time with the same result. What is going wrong, and what do I need to do?
Kappy, I completely overlooked your original response due to it's small, one line nature and poor UX design of the area surrounding the message area.
Upon following the complete instructions linked from the link you posted (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US), my first attempt resulted in everything being installed except for iTunes. So trying yet again.
I do have Safari for Windows Vista installed, which is why I could not delete everything in the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\ folder. I'm guessing this is Apple's way of completely removing Safari Win from history (there's always an under-the-table reason when something like this happens with Apple installs, they just won't say it publicly). Uninstalling Safari. Uninstalling Safari removes the remaining "Internet" files from C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\
Uninstalling iCloud. Uninstalling MobileMe Control Panel that was never used. That leaves only QuickTime installed as an Apple product on my machine.
Just for the record, I did not have this folder: C:\Program Files\iPod\
Emptied the Recycling Bin.
Shut down and fresh start-up.
Install attempt again: results in the installer saying something interrupted it (no other programs open)
Installing again immediately after error: Success
Clearly there are issues with this installer.
A pop-up shows up with "The registry settings used by the iTunes drives for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burining software. Please reinstall iTunes"
No other CD burning software installed other than what came pre-installed by Gateway and a install of Windows Vista Pro (or whatever the top expensive one was called).
iTunes launched. iTunes Library, items like Movies & Music, and playlists are still intact and usable.
Good thing I don't have these issues on my Macs (ahem, which is why these errors are allowed to persist by Apple to discourage Microsoft/Windows/PC use and purchase, all about the money and Apple has become the non-caring giant it once sought to overthrow as the underdog, miss those days).
Thanks Kappy. Thanks for the time suck Apple. -
i tried to open itunes and it said "This application has failed to start because MSVCR80.dll was not found. re-installing the application may fix this problem" and "itunes was not installed correctly. please reinstall itunes. Error 7 (windows error 126)" what does this mean and how do I fix it? I reinstalled itunes and this just popped up again :C

When I open iTunes, I receive an error that reads "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. Sorry for the convenience." When I click to see the error, it reads "AppName: itunes.exe AppVer: 10.5.2.11 ModName: msvcr80.dll" Why ? I am overly frustrated. Please help. Not exactly sure which operating system I have. It is a dell laptop with xp.
AppName: itunes.exe AppVer: 10.5.2.11 ModName: msvcr80.dll
ModVer: 8.0.50727.6195 Offset: 00026b72
AppName: itunes.exe AppVer: 10.5.2.11 ModName: msvcr80.dll
ModVer: 8.0.50727.6195 Offset: 00026b72Well I was able to successfully revert back to iTunes8. Here's my steps:
1. In Add/Remove Programs I deleted all Apple products (iTunes, QuickTime, Safari, Bonjour, etc.)
2. I then check C:\Program Files\ and made sure all folders were deleted (QuickTime, etc.)
3. I then ran a Registry Cleaner program to make sure all entries from Apple products were removed.
4. I then rebooted my PC
5. I then downloaded iTunes8.0.2 from here: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/ipod_itunes/itunes802forwindows.html
6. After it installed it said it could use my iTunes library file because it was created with a newer version. So I re-created my library by following these steps: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451
It took some time but iTunes is now back up and running. And I have all my playlists, etc. I haven't tried to sync anything yet. I'm just thrilled to have my iTunes back! -
My itunes will not open, it displays an error that MSVCR80.dll is missing. I tried reinstalling itunes but it fails because the service is not able to start.
Same thing happened to me. I ended up completely uninstalling itunes then downloaded it again from http://www.apple.com/itunes/. If you're using firefox, for some reason itunes will not download and I don't know if using googlechrome will also have problems,so just to be sure that it will work on your first try, use internet explorer when you download itunes. Good LUCK!!
