PE7 takes 6 minutes to load

I have just installed PE 7 and when I open a project the screen is frozen for five to six minutes before I can start working. Is this because I have a dual head video card? Matrox P650 PCLe128
If I set the screen resolution at 800x600 it will open a project straight away. But set higher, and I usually have it set at 1280 x 1024 there is a long delay while it is frozen for at least five minutes.
Have Athlon 3200 and 2g of Ram. C drive is 250 Gb with 200 of free space. D drive on which I save video is 250GB with 184 of free space.
Do I just have to wait 5 minutes, or is there somthing I can do to correct it? Have gone through all steps recommended in Adobe TechNote kb404997 but no joy. Appreciate any help yopu can give. Brian

Dear Steve, Chuck and Bill thank you ever so much for taking the time to reply to my troubles. Your time and expertise is much appreciated.
Perhaps I should give you a few more details of my computer, then what I have done.
Computer is 3 years old. Athlon 3200 and 2 g of Ram. 4 hard drives. Matrox P650 video card with dual heads. Two 19 inch CRT monitors.
A month ago I had trouble with Windows opening. My IT expert said the C drive may be faulty, replaced it with new 250g Sata drive ( 204 free space) and transferred my programs over to it.
My drives for storing data 2 x 250g Sata drives. Were Raid linked so as to be mirror drives. These were separated into two separate drives D ( 204 free space) and H (208 free) when new C drive put in. Had another 180g older drive in (not sata) which was partitioned into E for a scratch disk, and G as a spare to back up some photos on.
I always did disk clean up, scanned for virus and spyware each week and defraged all drives each month.
After encountering trouble when starting to use PE7 I followed Adobe Tech note kb404997
Set up a new user with only, PE7, My Computer, and Recycle Bin icons on desk top.
Still no joy in loading a project, had to wait 5 minutes to open a new project, or once I had downloaded 4 minutes of video from camera, it also took 5 minutes to open that existing project. Task Manager showed that PE7 Not Responding. CPU usage ranged from 50% to 100% and PF usage 500 to 809mb All that time the little red light on top of the computer was blinking as if trying to work and find something.
Took computer down to my technician. He could not see why it took so long to open a new or small existing project. He installed the latest driver for the Matrox card.
No difference. He then installed a new ATI RX2400PRO card and driver with dual heads. No difference. Set scratch disk to E drive. No difference. Put the Matrox card back in.
When I got home I made the screen resolution very small 800 x 600 New project or existing project opened straight away. Changed the resolution back to 1280 x 1024
Project opened immediately not frozen - but only opened in the top left two thirds of the screen! When I grabbed the bottom corner and pulled it out towards full screen, it got half way out then everything froze for 5 minutes! Next time I opened it, it displayed full screen, but was frozen for 5 minutes!
Followed your suggestions and did another full disk cleanup, virus scan and spyware, and disk defrag. C needed doing, D & H were not bad. G took ages to defrag several hours. Uninstalled PE7 and preferences again I had uninstalled and reinstalled it 4 times previously and then scanned everything again before re-installing. Noticed on disk clean up of C drive that there were still some items on it. Web client/Publisher Tempory files 32KB and Compress old files 55KB Does that matter?
Steve. Couldnt see any other processes running in Task Manager. Sorry I didnt know where to look for too many files in browsers web page cache.
Noticed when I opened the scratch disk (E) there were some PE7 files on it. Should they be there? Is that normal?
Even after deleting all files from G drive it took over an hour to defrag! Disconnected G/E Drive, but no difference.
Bill, It looks like you know some good things to check. But beyond me, so I will refer your suggestions on to my IT man. But many thanks.
Went to open my last project to see if I could turn the thumbnails previews off, as you suggested. But the name of the project was not on the open project list. Found it by going to the D drive where I had saved it. Another thing, after the project was open and working, I went to File- Open Project, and clicked on another project. It was frozen!
Sorry, looked, but could not find where to turn the Thumbnail Previews off in timeline/Sceneline, Project panel and the Organiser.
One other thing I have noticed, though it may have nothing to do with opening a PE7 project. When opening Photoshop CS3 I first of all get the message, The folder specified for Tempory files is not available. The default folder will be used. Would this affect PE7?
Is it good practice to save a project to a drive other than C? Should scratch disk be set to yet another drive?
Steve and Chuck. I Purchased PE1 when it first came out, also your book, PE2 In A Snap. But did not get into the programme as I had to go back to Papua New Guinea to help with major urgent repairs to Church Regional Office building. Now I am ready to put all my old PNG footage on to DVD Is your book still useful for PE7, or are you bringing out a new edition?
Thanks again for all of your help.

  • Firefox takes minutes to load upon starting up and changing web pages

When I open firefox in Windows Vista, it takes minutes(sometimes up to ten) to start up.Once firefox has loaded and I go to visit another web page, it takes minutes to load that web page. I downloaded Firefox 3.6.7 when it first came out, and it just recently started doing this. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling firefox, but this did not work. It is not a problem with my internet connection or operating system, because internet explorer and safari only takes seconds to load up and load web pages. I have run various scans to see if it was a virus or a bug, but nothing came up. How do I fix this, because using Internet Explorer is really getting on my nerves?

  • VI with Several XControls on nested tabs takes minutes to load in LabVIEW 2013

    Hello all,
I have a VI in LabVIEW 8.2 that includes more than 400 Xcontrols in nested tabs, which opens in seconds (very fast). The code was upgraded to LabVIEW 2013 and now the VI takes minutes to open and in the meantime LabVIEW is unusable with the CPU at 100%.
I am wondering if anybody has experienced this behavior with Xcontrols.
    Thanks.

Please note that I am working with jarcTek on this project where we inherite that UI with so many XControls instances.
It is not like there are a lot of different XControls (there are a total of about 10 different type of XControls), but there are a lot of instances of these XControls (several 100) in 3 levels of nested tabs.
Yes, we both had the time to re-recompile the source code between the two posts that jarcTek made. The various XControls are stored in 4 different llbs. Most of the XControls that have a lot of instances are actually pretty simple (very little code there). Finally, yes the VI property  (or the XControl library property general settings) indicate that the code is in LabVIEW 2013 [see image below].
You are correct, the delay occurs after the VI is loaded from disk. The loading time is fine (we see the loading progress/dialog since there are a few 100s vis to load with that main UI), but after that everything hangs for several minutes (cpu peg at 100%). We run the Desktop execution toolkit, and we can see a lot of XControl events (1000s) that are fired during this time.
FYI: Unloading (closing) the VI is also very slow.
To put this in perspective, In LabVIEW 8.2 the same code is ready to run immediately after the UI opens.
    Thanks

  • Firefox web surf slow. Pages take minutes to load, and sometimes they dont load at all. I have win xp sp3. Thanks

Hello. I have windows xp sp3,and latest firefox, i think 26. And sometimes, not all the time, but most of it,my web browsing is so slow, i mean google search, web pages load, etc. Like minutes before it loads, and when finally does, sometimes i see only text ,in web pages, not images.
I have speed,as i can download torrents with 7 Mb/sec. Just web surfing is slow, painfully slow.
My question is,if you bear with me, is this a browser problem or a windows one ??
(i dont exclude even the possibility for the nice guys at microProose to inject a thing in windoze to make it slow,so we upgrade,in the light of recent discoveries:) .
    thanks in advance.

Pages take minutes to load, any page. some time out. i don't know what to do next, i've cleared history, cache, cleaned the computer up not sure where the problem is or what it is.

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access to install for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • I have totally "uninstalled" what I had and then reinstalled the newest  version of itunes.  Still......  First, when I click on the itunes icon to load it takes the program anywhere  from two to three minutes to load.  None of my other programs take this

I have totally "uninstalled" what I had and then reinstalled the newest
    version of itunes.  Still......
First, when I click on the itunes icon to load it takes the program anywhere
from two to three minutes to load.  None of my other programs take this
    long.
When in the itunes program I can be moving around in my library and itunes
when choosing a song or songs, choosing file, edit, etc,. whatever command I
choose it just suddenly stops.  I can issue five commands and watch each one
respond in 30 second to two minute intervals.  I can issue several commands,
even shutting down, and it will do all but takes several minutes to do so.
My itunes program was working fine when this problem suddenly arose.
    Terry

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

  • TS3623 why is it suddenly so slow?  going to take 1 hour 36 minutes to load Looper?  It's never been like that the last many years.  What happened?

    What happened to Apple TV?
It now wants to take 1 hour 36 minutes to load before I can watch Looper?
It's never been like that before until the latest update a few days ago.
    What went wrong?
Did anyone from inside Apple say anything?
Help.  I want to get back to my movies and I don't have 2 hours to wait.

I finally unplugged the ATV and plugged it back in and it fixed itself.  Thank you.  Don't understand why the update reboot did not do this automatically.

  • Problems with illustrator CS3. loading drawings, swatches everything takes minutes

Since a couple of days the problems started at my office. All pc's started to have problems with illustrator and photoshop. But most of all illustrator. On start-up it is quick as it used to be but when i want to load a drawing, swatch or symbol it takes minutes. I don't know if it has to do with an update or something else. I only know that it started a few days ago on all pc's but not on the mac's.
    Thanks in advance,
    Bas

What exactly is a few days ago? The last Windows Update was on last Tuesday. Except for a .NET fix and various Office patches it did not seem to have anything critical, but it may be possible that it affects your computers. It's a far cry, though. More likely it's a virus scanner or something with your network settings, that causes erratic file opening behavior. Hard to tell without more info. your description is too generic and vague.

  • Photoshop Elements 10 - takes over 4 minutes to load - hangs on "Scanning for plug-ins..."

Since mid-February 2014, having problems with both Photoshop Elements 10 and Photoshop CS4 extended (v 11.0.2) - both take around 4 minutes to load, when previously they loaded very quickly.
In Photoshop CS4 there is no activity on-screen for 2 minutes, then it hangs on the start up screen for another two minutes on "Scanning for plug-ins." Similar issue with Elements 10.
I am running on Windows 8.1, 64-bit. I also have Lightroom 5.4 installed.
Any help gratefully received, as this is driving me mad!

  • IMac will not start following OS X 10.9.4 update - takes 30 minutes to load and then turns off

iMac will not start following OS X 10.9.4 update - takes 30 minutes to load with spinning wheel and progress bar and then when it appears to be finished it powers off?

Thanks for the suggestion - this was the 1st thing I tried but it does not appear to work either. I'm still getting the 30 minute spinning wheel and slow moving progress bar on a grey background - even if I try to start the iMac in 'safe' mode!

  • Firefox 3.6 takes several minutes to load under windows 7 ultimate 64 bit

Firefox was working fine on windows 7 x64. Then I loaded some shell extensions to allow symmmbolic links to fies as my SSD was filling up and I wanted to move some applcation data off the system drive. This caused problems with acronis backup so I unloaded the extensions and reinstalled acronis. Not everything works as before except that firefox takes 3 minutes to load. When initiated it shows up in the processes on process explorer as running but doesn't show up as an applicationrunning for three minutes or so.
Have tried unlintstalling and reinstalling firefox, allowing it through my firewall and using the prefetch option in the shortcut without success.

Yeah i have done that a couple of times. When i navigate through the disk it doesn't even let me run setup.exe, so i installed from bootcamp64.msi. Then after 3.0 installs, i try to update to 3.1 and after the nvidia install, it just quits. When i use my version tracker it says that boot camp is in version 3.0, and it shows an update for 3.1 in software update. Now when i go to uninstall programs, it shows boot camp 3.1 is installed.
As far as the audio, i have tried that as well. If i manually put a driver into that device, it fails on every reboot. It only shows working on Microsoft High Deff Audio Drivers( and it actually dosnt even work, it just glows red on my head phone jack.)
    Im stumped.

  • Problen pening FIRST email when opening Gmail. Takes few minutes to load.

Updated to new firefox as I had problem when I tried to "open a new tab". After installing update I now have problem opening FIRST email when opening Gmail. Takes few minutes to load. After the first one, then all the others open instantly w/no problems. I have not noticed other problems on computer.

No problems here, so no fix required.

  • My Farmville takes 15-20 minutes to load using Firefox. It loads right up with IE. I prefer Firefox. have done all the troubleshooting tips, nothing helps. What can I do?

My farm was loading just fine, and all of a sudden a few days ago, it has started taking 15-20 minutes to load. If I switch to IE, it works just fine, but I prefer Firefox for all my browsing. I have started in Safe Mode and still have the problem. I have done the troubleshooting tips provided and nothing helps. What can I do?

I followed the directions to create a new profile and delete the old one, but nothing changed. It still takes several minutes for Firefox to open a page.
I thought maybe the fact that I was using Google as my search engine and Chrome was my default browser was the problem, so I let Firefox be my default browser to test it.
    Nothing changed.

  • IPhoto 08 takes fully 1 minute to load

have rebuilt library, have repaired permissions, program opens quickly and shows thumbnails but disc symbol will begin to rotate and it takes full minute before usable. is this normal? 2300 photos total 1.82gb size library.

I found that iPhoto would suddenly take upwards of FIVE full minutes to load. I hadn't noticed this previously, but clearing the "Look for shared photos" in Preferences made a VAST difference to the loading time.
I wonder if the recent update(s) to iPhoto have activated this by default? I'm sure I didn't turn it on...
Still, thanks to this thread, I'm back to normal.
