PE9 Organizer - sequencing pictures by filename in slideshow

I've read many discussions about "sorting by filename" but not sure I've actually seen the answer.  When I bring pictures into organizer in PE9, I cannot seem to find a way to organize the pictures in the slideshow by filename.  Am I missing something as this seems to be very fundamental to making a slideshow.

As I said, it depends on which of the many ways you're using to create a slideshow.
There is a way to arrange the photo order in the Organizer.
Create an Album and add the photos you want in your slideshow to it. You can then arrange the photos inside the Album in your alpha numeric order.
Then, in the Media panel under the Organize tab, select the Album you've created. The photos should be in the same order there and you can use them to create a slideshow, by dragging them to the timeline or by using them to create a slideshow InstantMovie.

    1. I tried to drag in thumbnail pictures but can't get the page to move where I want to place the pic
    2. Tried to move pictures in movie project, but they are so small on the bottom and seem to come up in threes when I just want to move one picture at a time.

If delivering your content from an LMS, there should be an option to play the content in a separate browser window...without toolbars.  This makes it a lot easier to predict what size you need to build your course.
After factoring in all the variables and using trial and error on a number of systems, with and without LMSs, I've found a size of 995x627 to be almost ideal.  It's big enough to display most software apps and websites, but small enough to be viewable by users on 1024x768 systems.
You have to remember that if you have a significant number of end-users on 1024x768 and that's the lowest common resolution you need to build for, then you CANNOT make your screen size 1024x768.  You have to build smaller to allow for toolbars, browser chrome, etc.
One of the first things any wise elearning developer does when they begin a project, before they start creating content, is to survey their user base and find out what constraints are imposed within which they need to work.  Things like monitor resolution, Flash-player version, LMS, bandwidth all play a part in the success or failure of your project.  Find out early rather than later.

  • Photo rotaion in organize view different than edit view & slideshow

Photo rotaion in organize view different than edit view & slideshow. The fact that the power supply to the computer was accidentally disconnected while I was working in iPhoto no doubt was the cause of this phenom.
Any suggestions as to how to re-sync the rotations back up?

Thanks for the tip. I wasn't aware of the use of theses two keys simultaneously. It occured to me after this post to just trash the whole library which I had just created for this particular group of photos and re-import the photos to a newly re-created library. I still had the camara connected so as it turned out it was fairly easy. Now that I think about it, if this hadn't been a newly created library just for this group of photos it wouldn't have worked so simply, so I guess I discovered another benifit for having multiple libraries.
I'm glad you recomended the apple/alt key combo though as this knowledge no-doubt will come in handy at some time.

  • Sequence number in filenames

    Hello,
When DB dumps next segment of its log, new files are named autolog_name.XXX, where XXX is my problem. I thought that when I perform full backup, this number will reset and start with "001" but it did not
How can I reset this sequence number in filenames generated by autolog?

Nope - you can always use an "older" backup and apply the archive logs, this is the same as using a newer backup and use newer archivelogs.

If you have a problem with the backup for whatever reason, you won't be easily be able to recover an "older" one with that scenario. I have no idea, what problem you have with the "filenamenumbers" but if that is ok for you it's for me too

    Hi Friends,

    Hi Raghu,
Check your set value for log_archive_format .
Make sure the format has %s (sequence#)and %t (thread #) , capitalize them and the format will be padded to the left with zeros.

  • I want to turn a slideshow into a book, exactly as the pictures appear in the slideshow

I want to turn a 292 picture slideshow into a 100 page book, exactly as the pictures appear in the slideshow.  When I create the book the pictures are not in the order of the slideshow.  How do I fix this?  thanks

The book imports the photos based on creation date.  If you have your photos in an album in the order you want them select them all and go to the Photos ➙ Batch Change ➙ Date menu option. Add 1 minute between each photo:
Do not modify the original files.
Now when you create a new book with those photos they will be ordered in the order you had them in that album.

Change log archive format to small(s) *%s* instead of *%S*
%S Specifies the log sequence number.  This number is padded to the left by
zeroes.  The default value is one with a range of up to five characters.
%s Specifies the log sequence number.  The number is not padded.  The default
value is one with no range limit on characters. also refer this link http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14237/initparams103.htm

  • My picture folder is missing from my laptop and I am having trouble with how to organize my pictures in folders

I have been trying to learn how to use my MacBook Pro better so I can get my photos on it. I do not like iPhoto at all because it was not letting me organize my photos the way I always did in Windows Explorer. I am now trying to use Lightroom and I have run into some issues with how my photos are showing up.
    1. Whenever I removed my photos from iPhoto so I could start over, my Picture file in Finder disappeared. I do not believe I deleted it but somehow I must have. I was trying to just delete my pictures from Imgages under All My Files. I thought that All My Files was duplicating data and I don't want duplicate pictures on my computer. However, now I am just wondering if All My Files is just a link to my actual files. What is the purpose of that?
    2. I imported one photo card to try to work with it and made a new Pictures folder on my desktop and arranged it using some folders and sub-folders I created.
    3. I then uploaded these through lightroom.
    4. Somehow, all of my photos were showing up in images, which is not where I wanted them and I deleted the duplicates.
    5. Now many of my folders in the Picture file I created on the desktop are empty with no photos
    6. I tried to restore my pictures from the trash to Images under All My Files and it keeps putting them into documents
    7. I have been trying to learn how to use this computer but it seems so different from what I was always used to with Explorer. This should not be that complex but I search and search on the web and can't seem to find exactly what I need to help me

iMessage and FaceTime went down yesterday for some people. Mine is still down. My iMessage is saying the same thing about being activated. Sounds like you are still down too. Ignore the status page that says everything is fine - it lies.

  • How do I find a original picture in a iPhoto slideshow?

I have created a slideshow by dragging pictures from the library and albums window into the Slideshow icon. When I go through my slideshow, I want to export one of the pictures into a thumb drive. I know if I were in an album or in the library, I could export my selections to the file system as pictures files. But since I am in the slideshow collection, the "export" command only exports the slideshow as .mov instead of the pictures I selected. And there is not a command to link the selected picture in the slideshow to the exportable original in the library.
What is the best technique to find a slideshow picture in the library? I now wrote down its timestamp, then go to the libray, sort all my pictures by time and then scroll to the target time to find the picture. When you have over 10000 pictures, my technique is very clumsy.

    Hi Laipod,
There is no simple way to do it. Your technique is as good as any I know.
One way is to "select all" in the slideshow (if you want to find the location of all) or just select the one you want to find- go to Photos>My Rating in the menubar. Give them a rating of 1-5 stars. Go back to the library and make a Smart Album whose conditions is "Rating is "how many stars you gave it"
Now open that album and search for the photo.
Of course it helps if you haven't rated any of your photos so the smart album would only containing the photo/photos you just rated.
So you see, your method is just as good, or clumsy as mine. :^)

  • Organizer does not show filename and extension viewing photo

    Windows 7
    Photoshop Elements 8
I previously had Photoshop Elements 8 on a computer with Windows XP that died. My photos, thankfully, were on an external hard drive. My new computer has Windows 7. I installed Photoshop Elements 8 on it and imported my photos.
Previously when viewing a photo in Organizer in the largest size obtainable by clicking on the thumbnail, the photo would show tags and the filename with extension. Now, It does not show the filename and I have to click properties and get the little window that opens to show me the name. I couldn't find anything in preferences to set the filename option. Can someone please tell me how to do it?
    Thanks, Eva

    Hi,
Under the View menu, ensure that Details & Show file names are both checked

  • Losing picture quality when doing slideshows with Final Cut Pro

Whenever I put images in final cut and export them, the quality of the images look utter garbage. The pictures im taking are 2848X4288. Whatever Frame Size I make and whenver i Export them, the images doesnt look as sharp.
Could anyone suggest that I do something so I can keep the same quality of pictures?
    thanks!

I'd size them down in Photoshop, to match your sequence settings aspect ratio, or a bit larger if you want to zoom in/out or pan/scan.
You can adjust them to 72dpi for use in SD video...not sure about HD.

  • PE9 Organizer (mac) - thumbnails disappear when there are more than 5 columns

The thumbnails in my Organizer are slow to load, and if I move the slider bar to the left to show more thumbnails they are replaced with the hourglass, and the comment 'building thumbnails' appears bottom left. The thumbnails do not reappear unless I increase the size to five columns or less.
I have disabled media analysis in preferences; I have run a repair on the catalogue; I have selected all the photos and selected 'update thumbnail'. None of this has helped.
I am running PE9 on a Mac, and have about 20,000 photos in my catalogue.
    Can anyone help?

Until the Thumbs are completely generated I have the same problem.  After they are all generated all is okay.  This only happens after I bring in very large folders of photos.  Also, look at the space just to the right of the date in the bottom left corner of the screen.  If the software is busy you will see a spinning wheel.  Any time it is spinning the software will be very slow.

  • PE9 organizer disorganized. How can I fix it?

I use Photoshop Elements 9.0. Recently the Organizer section of PE9 became disorganized: I would click on a folder on the left-end column, another folder would open-up with the contents of yet a third folder.
I re-organized everything, making sure that any folder contained only its proper images. Then I made a backup of PE9.
The problem has recurred. I then uninstalled and re-installed PE9.
The problem persists. When I go through all my folders from the top down, the firts ones are OK. Then when I click on a folder, a different one opens up and the contents displayed are from a 3rd folder, usually not far from the original one in the folder hierarchy. From this point down all the folders are disorganized.
Do you have any idea what causes this problem? And how can I fix it?
    Thanks.

Thank you so much. I'm giving this a go. I also posted the question at the top of the list also along with a mail question, so the person answering can get credit.
Need to leave the office for now, may be in in the morning, weather permitting, or it may be Monday, but will let you know. You have been most helpful and I so appreciate your help. Thanks!

  • Thumbnails are OK, but many pictures are black in slideshow

I have been using iPhoto8 for some time and have over 35,000 pictures on it (275GB on backed up external drives and in several independant libraries). Recently new as well as old photos show up black when I "expand" them (either in slideshow or for alterations"; previously they were OK. Some I can restore by right click on them and reverting to original; for others, the process is impossible (revert to original command is grayed out). In most cases this happens with slides I scanned with a Nikon SF-200 using Vue Scan software, but it is starting to happen with digital originals as well (alpha 900 in jpg mode). This is a serious nuissance as I publish books... What is happening and what can I do?

Rebuilding does not take up additional disk space. How much free space do you have on the boot drive? It's recommended that a minimum of 10 GB of free space be available for optimum performance.
What format were the photos scanned to?
Rebuilding does not affect any other libraries. For the rebuild launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the last three options.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: iPhoto 8's new option in it's rebuild library pane, "Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" may make this tip obsolete. We'll know when users have occasion to use it and see if that's the case.
