PE9 Organizer Trouble

I'm near tears and ready to toss in the towel on PE9. I'm not a Adobe novice! I'm working with Classroom in a Book for PE9. On page 64 the exercise begins explorations into Organizer. I follow the instructions to the letter and cannot make my workspace display still images as shown on page 65. All I get are "film icons". I can't even get the star ratings. I've checked Details, Show File Names and Show People Recognition in the View menu and still can't get what the book says I should have. I've been all over drop downs and still can't figure out what is wrong.
Save me before I uninstall PE9 and throw the program into the garbage! I've learned the professional versions of Photoshop and Illustrator with less frustration.

The screenshot where my problems arise (and where CiaB is instructing under the heading "Tagging Clips in Organizer") is NOT the screen where the tabs are: Organize, Edit, Disc Menus and Share - the area for actual editing. I am already familiar with that "home screen". The problem instead is the screen where the tabs are: Organize, Fix, Create and Share. In that Organize tab is the submenu for Albums and Keyword Tags selections.
These are two different screens and it is the latter where I get icons instead of the movie clip stills shown in the  book and where I cannot progress through the chapter because what should be visible and available is Greyed out (ratings, etc.)
If I was not clear enough before, I'm sorry

  • PE9 Organizer (mac) - thumbnails disappear when there are more than 5 columns

The thumbnails in my Organizer are slow to load, and if I move the slider bar to the left to show more thumbnails they are replaced with the hourglass, and the comment 'building thumbnails' appears bottom left. The thumbnails do not reappear unless I increase the size to five columns or less.
I have disabled media analysis in preferences; I have run a repair on the catalogue; I have selected all the photos and selected 'update thumbnail'. None of this has helped.
I am running PE9 on a Mac, and have about 20,000 photos in my catalogue.
    Can anyone help?

Until the Thumbs are completely generated I have the same problem.  After they are all generated all is okay.  This only happens after I bring in very large folders of photos.  Also, look at the space just to the right of the date in the bottom left corner of the screen.  If the software is busy you will see a spinning wheel.  Any time it is spinning the software will be very slow.

  • PE9 organizer disorganized. How can I fix it?

I use Photoshop Elements 9.0. Recently the Organizer section of PE9 became disorganized: I would click on a folder on the left-end column, another folder would open-up with the contents of yet a third folder.
I re-organized everything, making sure that any folder contained only its proper images. Then I made a backup of PE9.
The problem has recurred. I then uninstalled and re-installed PE9.
The problem persists. When I go through all my folders from the top down, the firts ones are OK. Then when I click on a folder, a different one opens up and the contents displayed are from a 3rd folder, usually not far from the original one in the folder hierarchy. From this point down all the folders are disorganized.
Do you have any idea what causes this problem? And how can I fix it?
    Thanks.

Thank you so much. I'm giving this a go. I also posted the question at the top of the list also along with a mail question, so the person answering can get credit.
Need to leave the office for now, may be in in the morning, weather permitting, or it may be Monday, but will let you know. You have been most helpful and I so appreciate your help. Thanks!

  • PE9 Organizer - sequencing pictures by filename in slideshow

I've read many discussions about "sorting by filename" but not sure I've actually seen the answer.  When I bring pictures into organizer in PE9, I cannot seem to find a way to organize the pictures in the slideshow by filename.  Am I missing something as this seems to be very fundamental to making a slideshow.

As I said, it depends on which of the many ways you're using to create a slideshow.
There is a way to arrange the photo order in the Organizer.
Create an Album and add the photos you want in your slideshow to it. You can then arrange the photos inside the Album in your alpha numeric order.
Then, in the Media panel under the Organize tab, select the Album you've created. The photos should be in the same order there and you can use them to create a slideshow, by dragging them to the timeline or by using them to create a slideshow InstantMovie.

  • PE9 Organizer keeps crashing

I need help. Every time I try to use the Organizer in PE9 it encounters "a problem" and closes the program.
I'm running PE9 on an antiquated machine (but it works) ...
    ASUS motherboard A7N8X-E Deluxe
    AMD Athlon XP 2200 1.8GHz
    2GB RAM
    Win XP
    12GB free space on HDD
I also run PE9 on a MacPro laptop without any issue. Unfortunately I want to use the larger screen on my antiquated desktop for photo adjustements.

Did you have a earlier version of elements before you installed elements 9 ?
Also when you open elements 9 are you using the desktop shortcut , if so
after you click on the icon and it brings up the interface were you can
choose to open the editor or the organizer open the editor and and go
to edit in top left corner and click on click on it and go to preference and
click on performance and make sure you have enough memory alloted to run the
program. Then close the editor and reopen the interface and hold down ctrl +
alt + shift and left click on the organizer button and see if it comes open.
It worked for me after many hours of headaches. Thanks

  • ITunes organization trouble

Hey, this is my first time posting here, so I hope someone can help me.
I've used iTunes for a couple years now, and I never had any trouble with it.
But lately there seems to be some error with the organization, iTunes won't take off 'The' in the beggining of an artist name, at least not all the time, so, for example, when I want to listen to a song from 'The Killers', I have to look in K first, where are some of the songs, and then look on T, where the rest of them are. I don't know why this is happening, it's pretty annoying 'cause most of my artist that start with 'The' seem to have split in to two groups, and I use iTunes organization, so my folders are all split too.
Anyone know how to solve this?

I ran into this as well. It seems, when I originally upgraded to iTunes 9, my organization remained intact. All my new music, movies and TV Shows were all going to an external drive I have with a folder called iTunes Music. Then when I upgraded to 9.0.1., I just recently noticed that all new "media" was going to a folder in my Music Folder called "iTunes Media". In further looking at the folder, I saw very specific orgazational structure. I am reading that somehow this occurs when prompted with the option of new iTunes 9 organization, however, I never opted for this organization and upgrading to iTunes 9.0.1 seems to have triggered it and redirected all my new media to the new folder located on my local internal drive as opposed to the external.
I too have the same question. How do I get everything to point back to the external drive, AND, move all the media that is now in the new iTunes Media folder over to the folder on my iTunes drive and have it all properly organized. I've tried a few ways, but it keeps leaving out the newly added content. Anyone have any suggestions?

  • No audio for .mts in PE9 Organizer

New to the product and just downloaded the trial of v9.  The organizer was able to play video from my AVCHD files but not the audio.  No other programs on my PC have had this issue, so I believe the files to be ok.  They are from a Canon Vixia line.  Looked around the settings briefly but didn't see anything.
    Thanks for any information.

    Ed,
I had exactly the same problem. I can confirm that you should be able to
play MTS files in Adobe Elements organizer (and do not need Premier
    Elements).
I spent a month trying different things with the Adobe support (their final
solution I've included below). It all got a bit complicated (user accounts,
new catalogs etc) so I took the easy way out and did the following:
Backed up all my photo's / movies and docs.
Did a clean install of Windows.
    Installed AC3 Filter (http://ac3filter.net/projects/ac3filter/releases)
    Installed Photoshop Elements
    And it worked.
    From Adobe support:
Make sure you have the most recent version off AC3Filter installed.
Also make sure you do not have any conflicting AC3 codecs installed.
If you do not have any codec packs, you may have to remove the video
editing software that came with the camera.
    Create a new user account.
To create a local administrator account:
    1. Choose Start, right-click Computer, and select Manage.
    2. Expand Local Users and Groups, right-click Users, and then select
    New User.
    3. Enter a User Name, Full Name, and Password.
    4. Deselect the User Must Change Password at Next Logon option and
select the Password Never Expires option.
    5. Click Create then click Close.
    6. Right-click the user account name and choose Properties.
    7. On the Member Of tab, click Add.
    8. Type Administrators and click OK.
    9. Click OK and close Computer Management

  • Organizer trouble

After woking flawlessly for years, my PS (5.0.2.0) Organizer won't open.  I get the following progress reports:
    Loading Organizer Workspace
    Opening Catalog...
    Then after several minutes:
    Orgainzer Not Responding
When I "View Problem Details" I get:
"A problem caused this program to stop interacting with Windows"
Any suggestions?  I am sick at the thought of losing access to all my photos!

  • Video files not showing up in FR

Hi all, this is my first Mac. So far I'm loving it, God only knows why I didn't make the switch sooner.
Most of my video-library consists of the following video file types; .avi, .mov, .mpg and .mpg.
Reading some topics, I found that as long as QT could play these files given the proper codecs, FR would have no problem playing them, too.
So I looked around and found out about Perian - worked to perfection, QT can now play all files.
Problem is, when I place any type of file, including .mov's, in the proper Movies folder it does not show up in FR. The only way I can get files to show up in FR is to add them via iTunes, and the only files I can add to iTunes are .mov's and .mpg's.
Does anyone know why my Movies folder is not "in sync" with FR?

There you go. The other user short name! I never tried that, because I assumed the Movies folder that was in the sidebar from default would be the one. But yeah, all I did was create a Movies folder in the user short name (since there wasn't one to begin with) and voila! Thanks a lot!
And about making saves as reference movies - thanks for that advice, it's been very helpful in getting me started organizing my digital video library.
Still have some qualms about FR, though. The way videos are organized ... been playing with it for several hours today and here are some of my issues:
I like to keep my stuff organized ... I like the fact that I have the option of using either FR or iTunes (cover flow), so that's the route I'm taking using both. Already, things get complicated.
My video media is basically in three groups: movies, TV shows and music (music videos, concerts, etc.).
First off, I've decided to use the FR-designated Movies folder only for saved movie references. This is to avoid clutter, so the actual files are not in the Movies folder. Is this a wise idea? I'll tell you the basis for this decision.
When I first started organizing the files I found that any video placed in the Movies folder shows up in FR under .... yup, Videos->Movies. Be it music videos or anything TV shows. I don't like that. For everything that's not categorized as a movie, I'd like for those files to end up in their proper sub-menu in FR, but they don't. In iTunes, they are all in their proper place, because I've edited all the info so it looks neat and orderly.
Is there a way around that? What I've done to make it seem cleaner, is in the Movies folder with all the saved reference movies, I've organized it like this:
    (user short name)/Movies/
    - Movie A, Movie B, Movie C
    - Other (folder containing all non-movies video files)
So all the files in Other has been correctly arranged via iTunes, so these files show up in the correct sub-menu in FR.
What I mean is that they show up twice in FR, once because they're in the Movies folder and then another time (this is what I want), because I've directed them to a specific category via iTunes, e.g. music videos. I only want them to show up once, not in sub-menu Movies of FR, but either TV Shows or Music Videos ... make any sense?
Please don't tell me it isn't possible, or maybe advice me a better way to organize it.
Also, I'm having trouble getting some files to play. They play fine in QT, but if I change some info in iTunes they won't play in FR ... and the preview thumbnail is just black.
And lastly, wow ... there is a lot of load time, when you start FR up ... it's weird, sometimes there is none, sometimes I'll have to wait two minutes once I've gone by the main menu. I thought using saved movie references would help the load time, since the actual library is not in the designated FR-folder.
That's basically it for now ... 1) organizational troubles 2) playback troubles and 3) load time.
So far, you guys have helped me solve my issue, hope you will again!
    Love Mac!

  • Reverse Lookup

Is there a way, in finder, to enumerate the catalogs an image file is included in?
I've run into some finder organization trouble when an external drive died.  I want to be able to select an image and find out which catalogs it is included in and/or if it is even in a catalog.  I am hoping this is an existing feature, as I feel like this would be a very helpful.
Anyone out there have any tips, tricks, workarounds, plugins?
    All your help is appreciated!

It's not, but you may find a feature request for it on the feedback site, or you can start a new one:

One work-around would be a batch file (could potentially be done with the help of a plugin) that uses sqlite command-line client to poll each potential catalog. Dunno if anybody's ever done such a thing, or whether you're capable of doing such yourself...
Reminder, catalogs open in Lr can't be polled until Lr exits.

  • PE 9 Edit Workspace

One day, all worked fine. Next day JPEG files which had previously loaded into the workspace would not do so. I finally used my program CD and removed PE9 and reinstalled it. No help. and now the PE9 Organizer will not open at all. No files will open for editing at all. The space just stays gray.
Second issue - I attempt to log in but continue to get unavailable. Try later. Later never comes. Am I considered a second rate user because I am using Elements and not the full blown Photoshop? I would love to use Photoshop if I had unlimited funds.
Anyone have any ideas. It appears that Adobe does not provide any way to contact them directly. If anyone knows of an application that provides capabilities similar to PE, I would like to know. I'm tired of a program that doesn't work, and a very large company that doesn't seem to care if it does or not - at least I can't contact them to find out.

I'm not sure about your first problem, but the log in problem is because photoshop.com is dead and gone, has been for months now. You should have gotten a bunch of emails about any photos there getting moved to revel, but you can't use revel from within PSE 9. More here:

  • Is PE10 compatible with Windows 8? Having trouble with the organizer.

Is PE10 compatible with Windows 8? Having trouble with the organizer

It does sound very Watch Folders-esque, however, it seems strange that there are many folders involved. Are all the folders under a single parent folder perhaps? If so, you could try renaming or moving that folder. Additionally, to clarify, all 60 files are images, correct?
Additionally, you can try creating a new catalog, just to see if that lets you in. Hold down the Shift key while launching the Organizer. If you get the timing right, the Catalog Manager will appear.

  • PE9 "The file is damaged or is a format that cannot be included in the Organizer"

I am trying to rebuild my Photoshop Elements 9 Organizer content after a previous computer was physically damaged beyond repair.
I reinstalled PE9 and told it to import the image files from my HDD. It imported a large number but also rejected a large number with the message "The file is damaged or is a format that cannot be included in the Organizer".
These are files which were happily resident and accessible in the previous PE9 installation on the now-dead computer and there is nothing special about them. They are almost all .JPG format (this is not a RAW or CR2 problem) and those that I have accessed by other means (e.g. with Irfanview) are not damaged.
Can someone tell me why PS9 is not able to import these files ?
    Thank you.

    Hi pacman110,
I was getting the same error message when importing a folder with only jpg images to PSE 9 Organizer (trial version).
Since I read a couple of threads where corrupted EXIF data was a possible reason for import failures, I changed the EXIF data - in the Windows Explorer's file properties dialog (Win 7) - to some value, applied it and changed it back again. After that the import worked fine for that file.
Later I figured out, that all images causing the error were previously tagged in Picasa 3 and later untagged - so these images actually had no tags at import. Tagging the image(s) again (in Picasa) also seemed to solve the issue.
In my case it unfortunately didn't solve the problem, because I wanted to get rid of the Picasa Tag (IPTC keyword). Therefore I removed it using the file properties dialog.
Picasa still shows the image as tagged though. Removing the - on the file non-existing - tag in Picasa results in the same issue as above. At this point the only workaround is to remove the tag in Picasa, close Picasa and set and remove some tag with Windows Explorer, which is pretty annoying regarding the amount of files.
Conclusion: removing a tag with Picasa seems to make jpg images unimportable to PSE 9 Organizer.
Workaround: Add the tag again or remove with Windows Explorer or remove tag with Picasa, close Picasa and then tag/untag the image(s) with Windows Explorer.
    Maybe this helps.

  • Having trouble updating Elements Organizer 11

Having trouble updating Elements Organizer 11.  I started it using Administrator priveleges, disabled firewall but keep getting "The update server is not responding. The server might be offline".  I am using Windows 8.1 x64.  My current version is 11.0.0.0.  I read that you may need to go into Adapter Settings and disable:
    Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter
    Microsoft Wi-Fi Direct Virtual Adapter
    Microsoft Hosted Network Virtual Adapter
but I didn't see those listed! Help!

Very frustrated!  What do you mean by "focusing on my host files"?  Every other reputable software company I know of has direct downloadable updates in case their "update manager" doesn't work, so I'm not sure why Version 11 of PSE doesn't have this capability.  I need to get my software updated!  Please help me (and I'm not the only one) get this working so I can move on to greater things.  Please be specific (I'm pretty good with computers so don't be shy).
