Peamp for guitar, vocals, etc

I've been looking around for suggestions on a preamp/interface for live instruments to garage band. All my stuff is pretty classic, so I feel the need to enhance the sound while recording. Directly into Garageband works, but I feel it could be way better. I've read mixed reviews of hardware for this. I believe a USB preamp might be the way to go. Suggestions on brand and model? To get an idea of my use in Garage band go to robcork.com

For guitar, vocals, keyboard/drumpad controller, what is the best audio interface to use/record quality sound in Logic, Mainstage, Garageband, etc. (lowbudget)?

So many to choose from. im really just trying to record clean sounding electric guitar tracks now vocals in the future and keyboard/drumpad controller near future..(irrelevant but thought i should mention im in the market for a keyboard and drumpad controller combo hopefully will be usb or something) but i need a quality audio interface to use with Logic Pro 9 and all the stuff that comes with it (mainstage, etc) and also Garageband. I have heard so many different reviews about this or that but all in all i dont think i can afford an apogee except maybe the apogee One but it at 249 or whatever i feel like i could get alot more bang for my buck. Ive heard alot of good things about m-audio gear but i heard mixed reviews as well. If someone can just tell me what is the best interface in the 100-200$ range for the needs ive listed above...Any responses or advice greatly apprecitated.

there are so many different sound cards out there these days it seems - ill just say that one that i got alot of use out of was the tascam 122 (http://www.tascam.com/Products/US-122.html)
it has 2 decent phantom powered XLR inputs, some midi stuff, a place to plug a guitar into and some nice big knobs.
the next level would be something with more ins (8 or 10) and probably firewire, and also around $400 i think.
oh, and your computer should be more than sufficient to handle what you want to do.

Equipment for recording guitar/vocal/bass into Garageband

Hi Everyone!
I really want to get into recording in Garageband and need some opinions on some gear to get.
I would like to record an acoustic guitar, some vocals and possible an electric bass guitar.
What do i need inbetween the instruments & my mac?
I am guessing I will need a USB device that takes Balanced XLR in (for the mic), standard guitar jack (whats the proper name for one of these???).
At least I would just like to record the acoustic guitar, a crappy microphone (unbalanced over mini jack) and the bass guitar

Hi Adam,
I was in the same situation 2 months ago and I finally bought the M-Audio Firewire 410 recording interface. Wow. You have four inputs (2 XLR, 2 jacks) and 10 outputs. It's perfect for home recording. Electric and accoustic guitars, vocals, basses, or any instruments you like, this machine will do the job. The quality is impressive for the price (between 300 and 400 canadian $). I would say to you to purchase a firewire interface instead of a USB one, because with firewire you wont have latency problems and the overall quality will mainly be better than USB (larger amount of information passing throught the wire).

Guitar/vocal recording?

I have been trying to record a simple guitar/vocal in garageband. I am using a Xenyx 502, I have tried various routes to no avail. I even tried to just run the guitar through the Mac without the Xenyx 502. When I do this the guitar will record through the internal speaker (thus picking up the vocals on the same track) When I try to record through the 'line in' on the back of the Mac, then go through system preferences and turn the 'line in' on it will not record. Does anyone know what I am missing here? Very Frustrating to say the least. I appreciate any and all feedback, because I just keep trying to do the same things over and over and you KNOW what will happen then, right? lol

So you should have the mixer connected to the mac using a stereo cable. A pan knob is found on a mono channel. If you're recording just one input you can keep it a 12 o'clock this will send the same signal to both left and right (channel 1&2). In garageband this would mean that you could record channel 1 or 2 or 1 and 2. The other channels on your mixer are 2&3 and 4&5 so you have two stereo channels. Stereo channels have a balance knob. So if you were to record a mono instrument on one these channels you would need to set a corresponding track input in garageband.
Now if you record on channel to channels say channel 1 and channel 2 you would pan channel lest say left and set channel 2 balance to right. Setting you garageband tracks so one track is channel 1 mono the other is channel 2 mono.
Now if you are having problems getting signal to the mac make sure the mixer inputs are correctly bussed to the outputs and you have the correct stereo cable.

Did you create a NEW Apple ID or did you change the email address for your OLD Apple ID? This will affect how you update apps in the future.
Anyway, go to Settings/iTunes&App Stores, log out, then log in with the new ID.

I'm having problems with 8.1 and Continuity / Handoff. It will work fine for web pages, etc. but in email when I try to do it between by iPhone 5s running 8.1 and my Macbook Pro running Yosemite I consistently get an error.

"Failed to Continue Activity" Cocoa Error 4609. Handoff is working for phone calls and text messages. By email just crashes each time. It was also doing it under 8.0.2. My iPhone and iPad handle this fine. It's only the MacBook to the iPhone that fails, and only on email.

Connecting computer to tv for viewing EPIX,ETC.. but not through router?????

I need to start connecting computer to tv for viewing EPIX,ETC.. but not through router????? I have a workroom with a TV but without cable connection, so I thought I would connect my computer to my TV. I have an Acer Aspire laptop. and a 27" tv. Please can anyone tell me how to get this to work. I need something to watch while I am working.

I'm a little confused here as to what you're looking for. Are you simply trying to get Internet Connectivity to the computer using the best method possible or are you looking to try and send a signal to the TV without a cable connection going to it? The computer's Internet portion is easy if that is the case. If we can just get some additional information on that, we'll figure out how to approach it.
1: Does this Workroom have any Coaxial cabling going to it that can be connected back to the cabling the FiOS equipment is using?
2: Is Ethernet cabling available and running to the location of the router, or nearby?
3: Would Wireless work for you (as much as it is not ideal)?
4: Are you looking for a Physical connection to the network?
Now if what you're trying to accomplish is the actual connection between the Computer and the TV, check to see what inputs the TV supports (HDMI, VGA, DVI, Component, Composite) and see what the laptop supports (DisplayPort, VGA, HDMI, DVI). More than likely the Laptop would have a VGA connection along with the TV. Your best bet would be to honestly just connect a VGA Cable between the two machines, and then for audio, just use a 3.5" to Composite connection for the TV (Unless the TV has a 3.5" Input jack for the PC Input). If HDMI is available on both devices, by all means use that. Same with DVI as both give better picture quality over a VGA Cable.
If you can give us exact model numbers, that would help.

It depends on the KPI you are extracting for,if Business Content Extractor provides you with those then there is no need for generic extractors.
In CO-PA the KPI for profitability differs from client to client.You have Business Content for CO-PA also...

Can's find the 8 extra free lessons for guitar.

I recently purchased a new iMac with Garage Band preinstalled. Upon opening it, I found the lesson section and watched the first lesson. It says that I can download more free lessons from the Lesson Store in the video, but when I try to do so the program tells me that I have already purchased them. There is a small gray tab with what looks like a download icon in it, but nothing happens when I click it. Under my purchased tab in the app store, it just gives me the option to open Garage Band.
What am I missing? How do I access the other free lessons for guitar?

Presets for enhancing vocals

I was looking at some tutorials for enhancing vocals in Audition but they all reference older versions. Some presets mentioned are "pop vocals" and "reverb R3" under the effects categories "DirectX" and "Wave-C4". Are these still available in Audition CS5.5? Or are they renamed into other things? I'm mainly looking for effect presets that makes pop and classical vocals sound smoother. Any suggestions are welcome. So far I'm using a combination of single-band compressor, dynamic processing -> smooth vocals, and a small amount of studio reverb.

Direct X, no. It's been superceded by a type of plug in called VST (of which there are thousands for download, some free, some paid for.
Studio reverb is a good start though--try some of the Vocal Reverb presets at the bottom of the list. However, don't just stick to presets--have a play and a listen. There are lots of adjustments but until you get way into it, the three to experiment with will be Room Size, Early Reflections and Decay. You'll quickly hear the changes as you slide them and look for what you're after.
The "Full Reverb" effect is even nicer but too resource hungry to run in real time on most machines--you often have to do a "destructive" effect in Waveform View.
Or, as a final suggestion, a great favourite of mine is a free VST plugin called "Glaceverb" which you can download from a company called DASample. I'm sure you can find an online tutorial about downloading and using VSTs.
