I am having an scenario, where as Tacacs authentication fails for one user account for only one switch.
The same user account works well for other devices.
The AAA configs are same on every devices in the network.
Heres the show tacacs output from the switch where only one user account fails;

What could be the reason ?
No errors on ACS server; same rights had been given to the user account.
Thanks to advise.
PraseyHi there,
Does the user get authenticated in the ACS logs?

ro

That will help narrow it down.

NoMachine(freenx) Authentication failed for user (MYUSERNAME)
Hi all,
I have quite a few experience with freenx on other linux distributions, but this is my first time setting up freenx on archlinux. After following the instructions in the wiki, authentication keeps failing no matter what I do.
Stuff I've done from the wiki:
1. install freenx
2. add RSAAuthentication yes AllowUsers someuser nx to sshd_config
3. add md5sum to node.conf
4. pacman -S xdialog xterm
5. run "/usr/bin/nxsetup --install --setup-nomachine-key"
6. modify /etc/nxserver/node.conf so that "USER_X_STARTUP_SCRIPT=.xinitrc"
7. pick the right configurations when connecting to my server
I have "exec startxfce4" in .xinitrc.
It always goes up to "Waiting for authentication" and then "Authentication failed for user (MYUSERNAME)" pops up. I think it should not be a XFCE issue since authentication itself didn't even pass. I assume if it is a X window problem, what I would get is something like a blank screen.
I'm using public key, so I didn't really copy anything from the server to my client.
I couldn't think of a second reason why this wouldn't work. Is there any thing obvious that I missed? (If so, please move this thread to the newbie corner. lol)
Any thoughts would be highly appreciated.
Thanks
AweatherHi,
I did update the password in the properties file but still I get the error

I am able to deploy from JDEV. and could configure as per documentation
Thanks in advance,

I had to update the <OH>/bpel/utilities/ant-orabpel.properties file for the password and now I can deploy successfully...information was there in the readme file...

Essbase Error 1051440 - Authentication fails for user admin
We are facing a very unique problem...
The application is up & running.. even I can login into the application, can perform member addition, editing & mamage database from planning.... but I get this error while retreiving from excel addin or running scripts.
What I analysed is that this problem is Actually coming when a particular set of members are called anywhere either in scripts or during retreival thru Addin.
Recently we had added one dimension in one of the database of our application. After that that this problem started.
There were fewer Xref functions used to pull data from other cubes.... The problem is cominng with only those set of members where this Xref function has been used.
Even I had changed the formulas & incorporated member of new dimension in the formulas to point to target members....
Can you guys ever had faced such kind of issue....
Please help in resolving....
Complete Error is: msg fromremote site[date n time] Local////Error(1051440) Essbase user[admin] Authentication fails against shared services serverwith Error[30:1005:Authentication failed for user admin. Enter valid credentials.]]Hi,
are you sure that user "admin" has all necessary rights to run your scripts? I have to ask because we sometimes had problems with our admin user... There is an "native essbase server admin" and the admin user in shared services.
We dont had any idea how this could happen but sometimes our admin user changed to the mentioned "native essbase server admin" - you can see it if you are connected as "admin (internal)".
If you are logged in as "admin (internal)" you have to "externalize" this user.
Hope this helps and my bad english is not so much confusing... :-)

EAP-TLS or PEAP authentication failed due to unknown CA certificate during SSL handshake
Hi All ,
I am trying to test EAP_TLS authentication on acs 4.2.1.15 running on Appliance 1120 , I have installed my server certficate along with CA certficate on my appliance box , I have enabled features of EAP_TLS under golbal authentication setup .
I have downloaded client supplicant certficate file for my windows XP machine .
When i tried to authenticated i am finding following error message under failed attempts(EAP-TLS or PEAP authentication failed due to unknown CA certificate during SSL handshake) on my acs appliance box .
Under certficate revocation list , I have forced my CA as CRL in use . Attached snap shot of all .
Suggest me whether i need to enable all corresponding CA certficate undercertficate trust list , Kindly let me know were i am doing wrong on this ..Hello,
I am NO expert on certificates but I have seen your error dozens of times from wireless clients on my Cisco ACS 4.2 Radius server.
Through trial and error I wrote up this procedure for our Helpdesk for installing certs in Windows XP and Windows 7. These steps haven't failed me yet and the Helpdesk doesn't bother me as much anymore so see if this helps you:
- Manually install the Global CA under BOTH Trusted Root Certification Authorities\Certificates AND Intermediate Certification Authorities\Certificates
- Manually install the Intermediate CA under JUST the Intermediate Certification Authorities\Certificates
- Delete the wireless network from the computer
- REBOOT!!
- Open the Microsoft Management Console, “mmc”.
- Go FILE\Add Remove SnapIn. Select Certificates ..
- If promoted, do it for “My User Account”.
- Make sure the certificates are where you put them.
- If you see any of these exact certificates out of place in either Trusted Root Certification Authorities\Certificates or Intermediate Certification Authorities\Certificates, remove them.
- Redo wireless network setup again
I hope this helps you.

EAP-TLS or PEAP authentication failed during SSL handshake
Hi Pros,
I am a newbie in the ACS 4.2 and EAP-TLS implementation, with that being said. I face an issue during a EAP-TLS implementation. My search shows that this kind of error message is already certificate issue; However, I have deleted and recreated the certificate in both ACS and the client with the same result. I have deleted and re-install the certchain as well.
When I check my log in the failed attemps, there is what I found:

In the output below, it says that the user is authenticate and it puts the user in the right group with the right username, but the user never really authenticate. Maybe for the first few seconds when I initiate the connection.
Before I forget, the suppliant is using WIN XP and 802.1x is enable. I even uncheck not verify the server and the ACS under External User Databases, I did check ENABLE EAP-TLS machine authentication.
Thanks in advance for your help,
Crazy---Any ideas on this guys?? In my end, i've been reading some docs... Things started to make sens to me, but I still cannot authenticate, still the same errors. One more thing that catch my attention now is the time it takes to open a telnet session to cisco device which has the ACS for auth server.
My AD(Active Direct) and the ACS server are local same subnet(server subnet). Ping to the ACS from my desktop which is in different subnet is only take 1ms. To confirm that the issue is the ACS server, I decided to use another server in remote location, the telnet connection is way faster than the local ACS.
Let's brain storm together to figure out this guys.
Thanks in advance,

EAP-TLS on ACS v4 for wireless users
Hi,
I?m trying to deploy EAP-TLS authentication method on ACS v4.0 for my local wireless users; really I stuck with the certificate issue and need your assistance to understand the required procedures to accomplish the task.
As mentioned on the ACS configuration guide I have to have CA server to generate certificates for both ACS and wireless users, but I found an option on the ACS under System configuration tab then ACS Certificate Setup a Generate Self-Signed Certificate, I generated a certificate and uploaded a copy to my PC, installed and followed the recommended steps to configure the Microsoft XP client configuration but still I got the error ?Windows was unable to find a certificate to log you on to the network SSID? . Honestly I don?t know if this is possible but I gave it a try but failed.
Kindly advice what is the appropriate and easiest way to accomplish the task, if you could provide me with helpful documents I?ll appreciate it.
Regards,
BelalI am currently using EAP-TLS authentication on my wireless users using ACS 3.2. I have had that problem before. This is what I did...
Setup a Microsoft Certificate server as my
CA. You can use same machine wih your ACS and CA.
Then, generate certificate signing request from ACS then request a server certificate from CA then copy and install a certificate to ACS. On the ACS, go to global authentication setup check the EAP-TLS cetificate. If it failed to respond means that the server certificate is not properly setup.
On the windows xp clients, connect your machine using wired LAN, then request a certificate from CA(the same CA that you have use to your ACS) using IE (ex. http://CAip/certsrv), but this time request a client certificate. The name you should put when requesting the cert must be you local windows user, use 1024, choose microsoft base cryptographic provider 1.0. then installl the certificate on the client. Verify you client certificate it i was installed properly.
At that poit you should be able to connect you r wireless client using EAP-TLS. -
EAP-TLS or PEAP authentication failed during SSL handshake to the ACS serve
We are running the LWAPP (2006 wlc's and 1242 AP's) and using the ACS 4.0 for authentication. Our users are
experiencing an issue, where they are successfully authenticated the first time, however as the number of them is increasing, they're starting to drop the connections and being prompted to re-authenticate. At this point, they are not being able to authenticate again.
We're using PEAP for the authentication and Win XP SP2 clients as the supplicants. The error message that we are seeing on the ACS for that controller is "EAP-TLS or PEAP authentication failed during SSL handshake to the ACS server"...Not sure if this error msg is relevant since we have other WLC's that are working OK and still generating the same error msg on the ACS...
Thanks..Here are some configs you can try:
config advanced eap identity-request-timeout 120
config advanced eap identity-request-retries 20
config advanced eap request-timeout 120
config advanced eap request-retries 20

EAP-TLS or PEAP authentication failed during SSL handshake error
I have 2 Windows 2003 ACS 3.2 servers. I am in the process of upgrading them to ACS 4.0. I am using them for WPA2/PEAP wireless authentication in a WDS environment. I recently upgraded one to ACS 4.0 and ever since that time some (not all) of my Windows XP clients have started to not be authenticated and logging the error "EAP-TLS or PEAP authentication failed during SSL handshake" on the ACS 4.0 server. During the upgrade (which was successful) I did change the Certificate since the current one was going to expire November 2007.
The clients that do not authenticate on the ACS 4.0 server I can point to the ACS 3.2 server and they successfully authenticate there. I am able to resolve the issue by recreating the Windows XP PEAP profile for the wireless network and by getting a new client Cert. But, I have a couple of questions:
Is the "EAP-TLS or PEAP authentication failed during SSL handshake" error due to the upgrade to ACS 4.0 or to the fact that I changed the Certificate, or both?
Can this error ("EAP-TLS or PEAP authentication failed during SSL handshake") be resolved without me touching every Windows XP client (we have over 250+)?
Thanks for the helpMy experience suggests that the problem is the certificate.
I'm running ACS 3.3.
I received the same error message when my clients copied the certificate to the wrong location, or otherwise did not correctly follow the provided instructions.
Correctly following the instructions led to a successful connection and no more error message. -

MadhaviHi,
Make sure that the directory server is installed first. If it is running
ok, then you can try adding an admin user, please check the following
technote.

EAP-TLS & ACE Appliance "EAP-TLS or PEAP authentication failed"
Hello - I have a version 3.2 of the ACS appliance and I am trying to set up a successful test of EAP-TLS. I have a W2K server for a CA and I believe I have the certificate install properly. However, I get the "EAP-TLS or PEAP authentication failed during SSL handshake" error message in my failed attempts log. The troubleshooting document tells me to look at the CSAuth.log file but I can't seem to find in on the ACS Appliance.
Does anyone have any ideas how to troubleshoot this problem with the appliance? If the client's certificate on the ACS is invalid (which depends on the certificate's valid "from" and "to" dates, the server's date and time settings, and CA trust), then the server will reject it and authentication will fail. The ACS will log the failed authentication in the web interface under Reports and Activity > Failed Attempts > Failed Attempts XXX.csv with the Authentication Failure-Code similar to "EAP-TLS or PEAP authentication failed during SSL handshake." If the ACS rejects the client's certificate because the ACS does not trust the CA, the expected error message in the CSAuth.log file is similar to the following.
AUTH 06/04/2003 15:47:43 E 0345 1696 EAP: ProcessResponse:
SSL handshake failed, status = 3 (SSL alert fatal:unknown CA certificate)If the ACS rejects the client's certificate because the certificate has expired, the expected error message in the CSAuth.log file is similar to the following.
AUTH 06/04/2005 15:02:08 E 0345 1692 EAP: ProcessResponse:
SSL handshake failed, status = 3 (SSL alert fatal:certificate expired)

Yes, local authentication does work.
I added below the HTTP configuration:
ip http server
ip http authentication aaa login-authentication default
no ip http secure-server
I thought that HTTP would use the default method list for authentication. Is that possible or should I define a seperate AAA method list?
By the way, I always rate helpful posts -

Getting mail authentication errors for outlook user sending mail
When Outlook 2010 user attempts to use port 587 to send mail (to himself at this point), we see the following in the server logs:
(User in question can attach to file shares on the same server just fine from his Windows laptop)
Outlook config for outbound server is "port: 587, encryption TLS"
When we connect, we get "connection interrupted by server"
Tried other encryption methods - outlook 2010 states that server does not support the other methods (None, SSL)

Running OS X 10.8.4 with Server 2.2.1.
Any thoughts on what I need to do to make OSX Server mail play nice with Outlook over the submission port?
Thanks in advance!!Ok - so I think I have it almost all sussed. So for all 3 of you who might be reading this, here is what is going on.
1) As I expected, this has nothing to do with the FQDN/Outlook problem. I actually rejoiced when I finally got far enough to have that problem with my Outlook 2007 and 2010 clients. And I don't like the recommended fix for that either. There is another way - more on that in a minute.
2) This problem was all about authentication methods. At present, I have OS X Mail Server set for plain text and APOP only. I will be working to fix this soon - but at present I am unable to find any other combination that permits both Mac Mail and Outlook clients to authenticate properly. Mac Mail wants to use CRAM-MD5 by default. Outlook is so incompatible with CRAM-MD5 that even when there are other authentication methods available on the mail server, if CRAM-MD5 is selected on the Server then Outlook fails miserably no matter how you configure the Outlook client. Caveat: this is my own observation and I still have some experimenting to do. If you know otherwise (or can confirm more definitively), then please speak up!
So here is the working configuration at present:
A) Mail Server authentication set to Custom with PlainText and APOP selected, all others blank.
B) Firewall permits inbound from ports 25 (for mail from "outside"), 587 (submission for authenticated users, TLS) 993 (SSL IMAP), and 995 (SSL POP).
C) Mac POP Clients:
i) For retrieval (POP) In advanced settings, use Port 995, Check "Use SSL", Select APOP for authentication.
ii) For submission (SMTP) : Set port 587 (only), Set Authentication to "Password"
D) Outlook 2007,2010,2013 clients
i) For retrieval (POP), Set "Require secure logon using SPA"
ii) In "More Settings/Outgoing Server" set it to require authentication with same credentials as inbound
iii) In "More Settings/Advanced"
a) Turn on Encryption for the POP3, this should change the port to 995 automatically. If it does not, fix that too.
b) Set outgoing server to 587
c) Set TLS for the encryption type (nothing else will work here)
Once you do 2.A, 2.B, 2.D, you will THEN, finally encounter the FQDN problem.
3) So Apple and a lot of folks here in the forums resolve the FQDN problem by removing one of the restrictions:
Remove "reject_non_fqdn_helo_hostname" from "smtpd_helo_restrictions" in your postfix main.cf file.
I have at least 2 problems with this:
A) It removes yet another little bit of security from the setup
B) It involves non-GUI changes to the config...which is dangerous if you use the GUI, as changes within the GUI will often result in overwrites to your changes outside the GUI. So you can easily lose this fix without being aware of it until one of your Outlook users starts screaming.
The problem is really with Outlook and Windows not sending the FQDN in the first place. So how about we force them to do that instead? It turns out not to be too hard. I found a thread somewhere that goes into this and it works. Further, the solution remains on through reboots AND also can be made part of an automated deployment of a standard config. The only gotcha is you have to edit the registry...so you have to be careful. You only need to do this ONCE though, and the two entries are easy to find.
C) Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/services/Tcpip/Parameters
i) Set Hostname to the FQDN of your host (replace HOST with HOST.domain.com - or .net, or whatever)
ii) Set NV Hostname to the FQDN of your host
iii) Close Regedit and Reboot to have the changes take effect
Once you do this, the FQDN problem for Outlook users goes away.
So I am looking for suggestions to make the SMTP submission more secure. Aside from that, things are working - and I have had to make ZERO changes to config files outside of the Server GUI - a plus as far as I am concerned.
