PEAP with OTP and XP/ XP SP1

I have been trying to install a 350 PCMCIA card on a laptop running XP SP 1. However, I cannot get it to work reliably.
I set up the XP networking profile for PEAP and GTC
I set up the ACU for Host based EAP and Dynamic WEP.
The process is slow to bring up the authentication screen, but it works, including authentication and encyption. However, if the PC is put in suspend mode, then again it can take up to a minute for the authentication screen to pop up. Then the first authentication always fails, but the second attempt is successful. Any ideas?
Also, does anybody know how to verifiy whether WEP is operating at 40 bit or 128 bit?
Has anybody got this working on a laptop running just XP with no SP installed?

what version of ACU NDIS driver and firmware ???
EAP always uses a 128 bit key but it is a dynamic session key not a static one
For multicast traffic you need to configure on the AP at least one static key and this can be 40 or 128 but really recommend you use 128
For PEAP on XP you must have the MS802.11 hot fix installed this can be done either via a service pack or as an indivual update but either way you must have it installed

I have been battling this problem for a few weeks. I think I fixed it with the wpa2 patch from Microsoft.

PEAP with Intel Centrino

I have a Toughbook from Pansonic. We use want to use peap with acs and ap 1200. with cisco cards everything works. on the nb we use windows 2k NOT XP with the 802.1x patch from ms. and the latest intel pro set 7.1.1 there you can configure PEAP click on the right ca and enter the MSCHAP2 username and password. but it doesnt work. when i just enter static wep 111111 as a profil in the intel pro and configure peap on the OS (2k) with the patch it works. I have also configured LEAP with the Intel pro and that works fine. but not peap. i have also entered the roaming identity as the AD username. if i dont enter anything there i can see on the radius debug on the ap that the username is the mac of the intel centrino card.
does anybody have same issues? whats the solution, dont use intel pro set? =:-)

I use PEAP with WIN2K (SP4)and Centrino INTEL 2100 B card.
You must install the PEAP supplicant from Cisco ACU
version 6.2. Then can you use Intel ProSet, but you must select "PEAP".
The authentication works fine , but I get never a DHCP address. If I use a Cisco PCMCIA card 350 it works fine.The different in both situation is, in case of use INTEL card, the broadcast flag is set to 1 in the Discover message.

PEAP with MAC authentication

I am getting ready to deploy some access points and I am using MS PEAP with ACS and Active Directory. I was thinking about using MAC authentication as well but I noticed something. In order to get MAC authentication to work you have to put the MAC address in ACS as a user using the mac address as both the username and password. When I connect to my access point it prompts me to enter a username and password, you normally would enter your Active Directory account here but I noticed that if you just enter your MAC Address as the username and password you can get onto the network. Isnt this a security hole? An attacker could basically "sniff" the air for MAC addressess since these are not encrypted. He could then easily spoof his mac address and also use the MAC address as the username and password to gain access. Is there a way to avoid this?

You could consider using Network Access Restrictions which is a form of MAC filtering and will prevent you from having to add the MAC addresses of users to your ACS database.
This basically binds a clients MAC address to an access point, so if a user tries to log in from a different MAC address using their normal account it will be denied by ACS so you are effectively binding users to MAC addresses from allowed Access Points.
The MAC address could probably still be sniffed however this would not be enough to allow a login to the network.
It's configured on a per user basis
If you edit a user, scroll down to the
"Define CLI/DNIS-based access restrictions" and tick the box
Select the AP to which you will permit the client MAC from in the "AAA Client" drop down
enter "*" for the port
and enter the MAC address in the Address field
I can't quite remeber the format of the mac address but i think it need to be in HHHH.HHHHH.HHHH

PEAP with Novell NDS and LDAP?

I was reading this Cisco Q&A doc (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/wireless/ps430/products_qanda_item0900aecd801764fa.shtml) that contained the following question and answer:
Q. Can I use PEAP with LDAP or Novell NDS databases?
A. Yes. PEAP provides interoperability with both LDAP and Novell NDS.
I was under the impression that LDAP and Netware only supported EAP-GTC, EAP-Fast (phase 2 only), or EAP-TLS???
Can anyone comment?

Getting 802.1x to work with novell using PEAP w/ GTC is a slam dunk with some exceptions. I'm using Cisco ACS with Backend connection to NDS. If you have XP clients you can easily use the Cisco PEAP supplicant to allow connecting with EAP-GTC. I ran into problems with the mixture of cards and Client OS. I turned to Funk Odyssey Client to solve all my problems on the clients.

Frequent disconnect using peap wpa2 with aes and tkip

I got frequent disconnect for the users on wireless using peap wpa2 with aes and tkip.
My network is setup with :
-Wireless controller 4404
-ACS 4.0
-28 access point 1131g
-Peap authentication with active directory windows 2003
-windows xp - mschap2 with aes- tkip
when i check only aes on the wireless controller 4404 the network user are able work in a stable condition

This might similar to the bug where Wireless phones dont associate if WPA2 is configured with both AES/TKIP. In this case try to upgrade the controller.

PEAP config with ACU and 350 Nic

I am trying to config PEAP with a 350 Nic on a Win2K SP4 machine. I can get LEAP to work, but I never see the option to choose PEAP under the Network Security Tab.
I am using ACU verizon 6.3.011, latest version from Cisco. I removed it completely, the shutdown, then reinstalled choosing PEAP from the custom setup menu. However, I never see PEAP as a choice.
I am running ACS ver 3.2 and have PEAP setup with a self generated Cert.
How do I choose PEAP from ACU? of is it supposed to be chosen from withing Win, if so, where, I looked everywhere.

I have this config running in production right now. PEAP was difficult to setup and get working. Mainly due to the certificates. I had to load a Microsoft CA server and generate certs for both my ACS servers. Then you have to import them into the pc's using the MMC.exe. Make sure you add the certs to the "computer account" .
Steps are:
1) goto RUN and enter mmc.exe
2) ctrl+m (add snap-in)
3) Add certificates snap-in under computer account and local computer
4) Expand the list on the left, highlight "Trusted root certification authorities" , left-click, all tasks, import.
5) Follow the wizard, browse your cert file and import under "Trusted Root certification Authorities"
6) Import all the certs this way, you should have two if you have two ACS servers for redundancy, as I do.
7) Then once in the PEAP setup in the windows auth tab, you'll need to select these certs to activate them. They should now be in that list after the import.
There are also some sticky settings on the ACS servers. This took me about 8months to get working correctly with trial-n-error, testing, production runs and TAC cases. Feel free to email me if you want to take this offline.

An issue with authentication and authorization on ISE 1.2

Hi, I'm new to ISE.
I have an issue with authentication and authorization.
I have ISE 1.2 plus patch 6 installed on VMware.
I have built-in Windows XP supplicant and 2960 cisco switch with IOS c2960-lanbasek9-mz.150-2.SE5.bin
On supplicant I use EAP(PEAP) with EAP-MSCHAP v2.
I created authentication and authorization rules with Active Directory as External Identity Source. Also I applied authorization profile with DACL.I login on Windows XP machine under different Active Directory accounts. Everything works fine (authentication, authorization ), but only for several hours. After several hours passed , authentication and authorization stop working . I can see that ISE trying authenticate and authorize users, but ISE always use only one account for authentication and authorization . Even if I login under different accounts ISE continue to use only one last account.
I traied to reboot switch and PC,but it didn’t help. Only rebooting of ISE helps. After ISE rebooting, authentication and authorization start to work properly for several hours.
I don’t understand is it a glitch or I misconfigured ISE or switch, supplicant?
What should I do to resolve this issue?

Yes. Tried that (several times) didn't work. 5 people in my office, all with vers. 6.0.1 couldn't access their gmail accounts. Kept getting error message that username and password invalid. Finally solved the issue by using Microsoft Exchange and "m.google.com" as server and domain and that the trick. Think there is an issue with imap.gmail.com and IOS 6.0.1. I'm sure the 5 of us suddently experiencing this issue aren't the only ones. Apple will figure it out. Thanks.

Issues with using 6.0Gb/s drive with W520 and Windows 7

I ordered 2 ThinkPad 500GB 7200RPM SATA 3.0GB/s 7mm 4K hard drives and was instead shipped 2 6.0GB/s drives. Even though the outside of the box has the correct configuration that I ordered. I installed the drive in the W520 and tried to run my company's OS installation script. This script encrypts the hard drive then does the installation of the OS, apps, Windows 7 drivers, updates SP1, etc. I got the BSOD several times during the installation, It took two times before I got the completed install. When I login I get BSOD plus many apati errors and the system hangs all kinds of ways. It's usually the display that goes back to an empty wallpaper but the mouse works and there are no icons on the desktop. I can startup and go into safe mode with networking and never have a problem. I called Lenovo Tech support and they say there are no special drivers needed for the 6.0GB/s type of drive and encryption does not matter. I have gone through Device Manager and ran the update driver option on all ATAPI controllers, disk drivers, Bus Host Controllers, chipset, etc. There are no errors in Device Manager. My thought is the 6.0GB/s is causing some conflict with something, perhaps refresh rate, disk read/writes, page file, I/O, memory, etc. Just don't know. Have searched the web and do not get much help. There is some talk about cables for 6.0GB/s but not much info.
Any ideas? Thank you all.

I too have a W520. I have a SATA III hard drive in my primary bay - no problems. I have booted off a SATA III SSD in the Ultrabay, also no problem. I don't believe your troubles are SATA III related.

I have installed Win2000 + sp1 and ADS on a computer. This computer is PDC.
After connection via LDAP I cann't get any object ( users or goups etc. ).
I try connect to ADS by java ( JNDI ).
When I use another clients of LDAP ( eg. Maxware Directory Explorer) I have
the same problem - no objects.

Can you please let me know which exact ADS tool that you used to examine

DN. I have Active Directory Users and Computers, Sites and Servicesand
Domain
and Trusts installed on my machine but I am not able to figure out how
to get
the DN?

I have had WLS6.1 & ADS working ok using LDAP V2. Mind you it did take
a
fair bit of messing around to get it going. MS does have a few oddities,
for example the Administrators DN might look something like this:
cn=Administrator,cn=Users,dc=eglobal,dc=net
One tool that I found invaluable came with the additional support tools
for Windows 2000. The 'Active Directory Administration Tool' made it
easy to list the directory contents and examine the DNs.

Thunderbolt camera stopped working with Skype and Google Hangouts

Some time ago my built in camera on the thunderbolt stopped working with Skype. If I activate the camera the green light turns on but the screen either remains black or it shows that spinning loading incon forever. The green light stays on indicating the camera is active no matter what I do with skype even if I press the button to deactivate the camera. The green light remains on until you completely kill skype. Rebooting, reinstalling skype, etc. does nothing.
Today I disocvered I have the same thing with Google hangouts. All the way around exactly the same and the green light won't turn off until you kill the web browser. Same thing with FireFox or Safari. Also it no longer works on Viber either.
It's quite infuriating.
I am not sure if this has anything to do with this awful virus like program called "CamTwist" that I installed once and had a very difficult time removing or not.
Reinstalling OS X from scratch is not an option. Too much work, too many programs to reinstall and reconfigure etc.
How can I get my camera back?
The camera works just fine with Photobooth and facetime.

1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
The test works on OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later. I don't recommend running it on older versions of OS X. It will do no harm, but it won't do much good either.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of it have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message. See, for example, this discussion.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
5. Try to test under conditions that reproduce the problem, as far as possible. For example, if the computer is sometimes, but not always, slow, run the test during a slowdown.
You may have started up in "safe" mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, a series of lines will appear in the Terminal window like this:

The intervals between parts won't be exactly equal, but they give a rough indication of progress. The total number of parts may be different from what's shown here.
Wait for the final message "Process completed" to appear. If you don't see it within about ten minutes, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, press the key combination control-C or command-period to stop it and go to the next step. You'll have incomplete results, but still something.
12. When the test is complete, or if you stopped it because it was taking too long, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

Adobe Reader 9 and WES 7 SP1

Hi-
I’m working with Windows Embedded Standard 7 sp1 kiosk devices setup to print vendor badges. According to Microsoft only Adobe Acrobat Reader 9 is compatible with WES 7. Can I get some help in finding a legitimate download for adobe reader 9? I had reader 11 installed but am running into a BEX error below.

Anyway, you can download Reader 9 from the Adobe FTP site ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/9.x/ - the latest full installer is 9.5; the latest (and last) update is 9.5.5.

Trouble with Windows7 and Gigabit link on Cisco 3560X switch

In my company, we are using Cisco IP Phones 7945G (with 2 gigabit network ports) and Cisco 3560X-48P (1GB ports) switches for our users.
Our client computers are running on Windows 7 SP1 (64bit - Enterprise edition) and are connected behind the IP Phone. We use a "Boradcom
Xtreme Gigabit" onboard network card on the computers. All ports (on the switch site and IP Phone side) and on the network card of the computer are configured in "auto negotiation". Duplex and speed are set to "auto".
We tried now to deploy a new engineering software and we are facing a very strange problem. This means that the engineer software fails to download some files from the server. We are using a flat network, all the servers and computers are on the same network segment with no firewall inbetween.
The firewall and Anti-virus on the computers are configured to allow all incoming/outing connections.
To troubleshoot, I tried to change all the network cables but I still get same result --> download fails.
I connected the client computer directly to the Cisco 3560X switch, without the IP Phone and I get the same result.
I installed a separate network card from INTEL (Intel PRO1000 PT) but I get the same result.
As last test, I have connected to same client computer directly to a Cisco 2960-8TC switch (100Mbit; auto negotiate) and here is working fine. The software successfully downloads all the files from the server.
If I connect the computer behind the Cisco 7945 IP Phone, set the speed and duplex of the PC-Port on the Cisco IP Phone 7945G to "100MBit/full duplex" is also working fine.
Is there any know issue with Windows7 and Gigabit network connections?
Do I need to set any Registry key on my Windows 7?
The firmware version of my Cisco 3560X-48P switch is 12.2(53)SE2; do I need to update it?
The firmware version of the IP Phone 7945G is 9.2.1.

Hello, Thanks for your answers. First of all, I have updated the firmware of my Cisco Catalyst 3560X-48P switch to the version 12.2(55)SE5. Unfortunately, this did not solve my problem. As second step, I ran an TDR test on my 3560X switch but I do not get any result. The "Pair status" always says "not completed". Even if I wait for 5 minutes, the status remains at "Not completed". Am I doing something wrong ? To do the TDR test, I use the commande "test cable-diagnostics tdr interface gigabitEthernet 0/XY". For your information, the port gigabitEthernet 0/XY is in a "Connected" status when I run the "show int status" command. Jeff, I think there is no issue on the server side, because if I connect my workstation on a 100MB switch (example Cisco Catalyst 2960-8TC-L) the application works absolutely fine. Also, if I run the application locally on the server, it works fine. As next step, I will connect the workstation directly on our backbone switch and try the same test. Is there perhaps any Registry key in our Windows7 which could cause this trouble? If you have any other ideas or options, please let me know. Thanks a lot, Marc Hoffmann

PURPOSE
이 문서는 IBM AIX5L OS 상에서 Arch Process가 online redo log
를 release하지 못하고 OS의 kill 명령으로 kill조차 되지 않을 경우
조치 방법이다.
Problem Description
이 문서는 다음 OS 정보와 Oracle version인 경우에 해당한다.
Oracle Server - Enterprise Edition - Version: 9.2.0.5.0
Oracle Server - Enterprise Edition - Version: 8.1.7.4.0
AIX5L Based Systems (64-bit) or (32-bit)
문제 발생 당시의 증상은 다음과 같다.
- arch-process doesn't release redolog files
- arch-process doesn't die after database shutdown
- arch-process can't be killed
genclntsh 수행 시 hang 상태이다.
(sleeping...)28590: kwaitpid(0x2FF22470, -1, 4, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
또는 이 문제로 인하여 ORA-600[2103] 에러가 발생하기도 한다.
이 에러가 발생하는 원인은 IBM AIX5L 64bit, 32bit OS 이슈에 있다.

Solution Description
OS AIX5L ML4.0(5.2.0.40)의 bos.up / bos.mp / bos.mp64 fileset level을
갖는 JFS2 file system을 갖는 경우에 해당한다.
AIX 5.3 APAR IY59387은 IY58143에 포함되어 있다.
JFS2 file system에 Heavy I/O activity가 발생하면 database process에
HANG 문제를 야기시킬 수 있다. 이 때 database process가 kill -9
명령으로 kill되지 않는다. 데이타베이스를 SHUTDOWN하여도 Process가
계속 살아 있게 된다.
Process에게 SIGKILL 함수가 issue되었지만 영향을 주지 않게 된다.
Process를 제거하는 유일한 방법은 OS를 reboot하는 것이다.
문제를 예방하는 방법은 IBM APAR-FIX IY59082 를 적용하는 것이다.
이 APAR는 bos.64bit 5.2.0.42에 포함되어 있다.
Fix :
Need to install the IBM APAR-FIX IY59082, this APAR is included on
bos.64bit 5.2.0.42.
(주) IBM 엔지니어에게 확인 결과 이 Patch 안에 AIX5L 32bit 용과 64bit
용이 모두 포함되어 있는 것으로 확인됨.

The install was from my original Dell XP Pro-SP1 'Reinstallation' CD along with the complete MS XP-SP2 download that I burned to another CD. I also had all the latest Dell drivers from their website burned to a CD. Install went as follows:
- Format HD
- Install XP Pro SP1
- Install SP2
- Install Dell Drivers
- Obtain any MS patches from their site
- Install Office
- Update Office from the MS website
- Install iTunes
- Tweak MS settings
- Install many software programs
- Make an interim Image of system and store to ExHD
- Install other software programs (mostly security programs)
- Make another 'complete' Image to ExHD
- Restore backup data and music
After additional testing last night, I determined that it is not iTunes at all (or to blame). I get intermittent hangs/freezes/pauses in other media players (WMP, etc.).
Seems that something is causing the 'System' process to periodically jump up in CPU %age (though not more than 30-50%). Even this relatively small amount is enough to pause the playback of music or video, hang the mouse movement for a brief moment, or delay a menu opening. All very subtle - you have to be looking for it to notice (except with real-time audio-video, which is quite noticeable whenever this happens).
I had this problem a year ago, which is why I reimaged then and stayed with SP1 on the advice of Dell and Webroot. I'm stumped as to where to look for the culprit. Every time I go back to the original HD with SP1, everything runs smoothly. Some sort of system call is generating this complete pause....
I'll be limited in my Internet ability for the next several days, so I may be out of touch until Friday. I'll keep testing and playing with the limited equipment I take along....
Any thought you or others want to toss out, I'll attempt when possible.
