Pearl 8100 quit working when updating software

I have a Pearl 8100 on AT&T and attempting to update the device software to version 4.5xxx. I downloaded the software onto my Vista computer and while updating, the device crashed as the application said it was removing items. The device shutdown and now the light does a double flash in red and will not start up. I have tried removing the battery, but does not power up, only receive the flashing light. I am unable to master reset as the device needs to be running from everything I can find. How can I get it to work and update the software?

Nano quit working after update to version 1.2

Brand new nano quit working after update to version 1.2 It worked fine before. My computer see usb storage device but doesn't recognise ipod. ipod updater that worked to let me update doesnt regonise nano either. I returned to store where I bought it, got a new one, brought it home, ran updater again now it the new one is doing the same thing. What gives? I have never had a problem in the past with updater. Is there any way to take it back to version 1.1 since 1.2 doesn't work?

This fix came from Caspar (Thank you SOOO much!). It took me 10 minutes to do this and now my beloved ipod nano is back! Hopefully this will help some of you:
Original Problem: Updated iTunes(6.0.5) and iPod nano (1.2). After the update, iTunes would not recognize my iPod and therefore would not let me remove the iPod from my computer, which seems to be the problem most people are having.
The Fix:
*uninstall iTunes, iPod, and any updates (make sure anything related to these two programs are not on your computer)
*Open Control Panel
*Click the "switch to classic view" link, if
necessary
*Double click "administrative tools"
*Double click "computer management"
*Under "storage" click on "disk management"
*Find your iPod's listing
*Right-click on it and click "format"
*Select "FAT32" and start the format
*After reformatting, remove iPod from computer
*Download iTunes directly from the Apple website (I didn't restart my computer at the prompt)
*Download 6/28/06 update for iPod (do NOT plug iPod in before doing this!)
*Open update for iPod and wait until prompt to plug iPod in (do not plug in early)
*Wait for the update....and there ya have it!!
Hopefully this will help some people, as I have spent the past 2 weeks doing the 5R's thing. After completing the steps above, I haven't had a problem with my iPod..and now my Nike+ works!! Thanks again, Caspar...you're a genius!!

You can try this step :
Rename the opm.db file.
Close the Creative Cloud application if it's running.
Navigate to the OOBE folder.
Windows: [System drive]:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Adobe\OOBE
Mac OS: /User/<username>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/OOBE folder
Rename the opm.db file to opm_old.db
Launch Creative Cloud

Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

Problems with my curve when updating software

My computer crashed when my curve was updating software and now will not switch on. The red light flashed at the top. On a previous forum post advice was given that suggested that I should attempt to reinstall the software as I had been doing before and that would fix the problem. However when I plug my phone back into my laptop I get a Window's message telling my that Window's does not recognize the device and that it is not working correctly. The Blackberry desktop manager does not connect with the phone either. I have only had this phone for 5 hours, please help me!

1. You have a Curve (what exact model # at Options > About) or a Pearl? You posted in the 81xx Pearl section.
2. What is the OS on the device you were replacing, if you recall?
3. Disconnect the USB cable, Reboot the computer from off, and try it all again.
If still nothing, please post back and let's see what we can do.

Blackberry Pearl 8100 OS and application update

I just got my Blackberry Pearl 8100 and it has OS v4.2.0.71...I need/would like to have Microsoft To Go, so i can view my work files(excel, word), also would like to view videos(possibly different file formats) that i download, music(mp3's, etc), pics and things like that...where do i start with all of this because i have no idea what to do or how to do it...

I think that your device has lost its OS.
But I am confused : are you sure the "Device Manager" does not recognize the 8100 ? Are you not referring to the "Desktop Manager" ?
Anyway, if the battery pull did not fix the issue, I think you will have to rely on another software than the Desktop Manager to load an OS on your device again. You can check for the BBSAK (BlackBerry Swiss Army Knife). There are many discussions about it on the forum, you can use the search form on top of this page.

Disconnect all peripherals from your computer. Boot from your install disc & run Repair Disk from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
Select Disk Utility.
Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid.
Click Repair Disk.
Restart your computer when done.
Repair permissions after you reach the desktop-http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751 and restart your computer.
Try updating iTunes again.

I am confused as to how a download of DTM would cause this. Downloading DTM to your PC does nothing but download an installation file to your PC. You must launch that installation file in order for anything else to happen...and then do even more in order to cause what you have described. So I am confused as to exactly what you have done.
In any event, if your BB has been somehow wiped clean, then the only way to get your data back is if you already have previously taken a backup. If you have never done that, then there is no hope.

i had the same thing the other day when i first got my ipod (eBay)..
anyway..
i plugged it into the wall as suggested and nothing happened.. then i pressed some of the buttons, a bar went across the bottom and it began charging!!
are you trying to charge from yer computer or via the wall socket?
apparently, ipods won't charge via usb or firewire if fully out of charge.. only via proper power!
this may or may not be true.. but it worked for me!
now.. if i could only get mine to mount again..?
