Pearl 8130 Call Display

Hello.
I can't seem to get call display to work on the phone. Everytime someone calls, it says unknown number. Even if I have the person in my address book. I tried doing what the FAQ said to do but it still didn't work. Maybe I did something wrong. Can someone help please? Thank you!

Greetings, and welcome to the BlackBerry.com Support Forums.
There could be any one of three solutions... Try these:
1. Make sure you set your own country code at Phone Dialer Screen > Options > Smart dialing.
Set your country code in this format: "+xx" where xx = your country code. Some countries have two or three digit Country Codes. Do not place the '+' in your contact's entry.
* In the US, set this Country Code as "+1", and place your loca area code in the proper box (this normally the default setting in a new BB).
2. At the same location, change the National Number Length to the number of digits for your country (since some countries will have less than 10 as set as the default in the BB). Find out the total digits, minus the country code. Do not place the '+' in your contact's entry.
* For example, some countries have a total number to 8 (plus 3 for country code). You would enter "8".
3. You may have "Content Protection" set on your Address Book.
Look at Options > Security > General Settings. Scroll down to Content Protection > Include Address Book = NO.

i have my set up in "Call Logs" as Call log and the y erase by itself i dont know how and when ...sometimes i just pick up my phone to make a call and i go to my call log and theirs nothing...i dont get it

This is typically caused by the device having a low amount of memory. Check the following link for more information on maintaining the BlackBerry memory:

  • Pearl 8130 Emergency Call Mode

Hi,  I've been issued a Pearl 8130 at work and generally like it. It does generally work well for me, except for one deal-breaking flaw.
Occasionally the phone jumps into "Emergency Call Mode" when I try to unlock it. I'll have the "Unlock" keyword highlighted but it jumps to Emergency Call just as I press the pearl, probably due to slight motion because I am using the phone on the train. Twice now an inadvertant second button press caused the phone to call 911. I hung up ASAP, but they called me back and I had to explain that I am OK and it is just this stupid phone making unwanted 911 calls.
How do I get disable Emergency Call Mode?  It is really annoying, and a terrible design flaw.
    Thanks

Sorry, you can't disable it, and if you are in the USA, emergency calling is required by federal law.

  • Upgrade to 4.5 device software on Telus Pearl 8130: HTML Email viewer doesn't work

I just upgraded the software on my Telus Mobility (Canada) BlackBerry Pearl 8130 (from 4.3).
One of the main reasons I wanted to upgrade was to take advantage of the HTML email viewer (yeah!  finally!).
My installation went fine, and the View Messages in HTML option is enabled (was by default, have verified it again).
On my first test email that I sent to myself from my Yahoo account to my default ISP email account, here's what happened.  The Yahoo email uses a very simple "stationery" as background, consisting of two small graphic files, one in the upper left and one in the lower right.  In between those two graphics is the text you wish to write.  So I put the words "test test" in the text portion and sent it to myself.
When the email was received on the Pearl, indeed I saw the two graphics.  However, the text was not displayed.
That was the first attempt.  The second attempt produced no graphics at all.
I also tried sending myself an email using some formatting, like bold fonts, different text colors, underline and one jpg file.  None of the formatting came through, and the jpg came through as an attachment (instead of in the the body of the email where it was placed).  When I tried to open the jpg, by clicking on "1 Attachment", I got an error stating that it is an unrecognized file type and cannot be opened.
So it appears that the upgrade took 1 step forward and 3 backwards.
Anyone experience this, and if so, is there a fix, either now or in the works?  Does RIM Support read these forums?
Telus Tech Support said that something is being done but they weren't too specific.
I have another upgrade-related question regarding Documents to Go, but I'll post that in a separate thread.

    hello,
about your Bluetooth problem, I suggest you one a new discussion on the decicated board called "BlackBerry Accessories". ou will find there experts about Bluetooth.
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/rim/board?board.id=accessories
about the third point : it usually takes a long time for the device to emerge after a battery pull. It's quite common, you can't do anything about it.
about the second point. In my opinion there at least one picture that is corrupted (or one index file).
in the folder containing that image, do you have many images ? Let's call that folder A.
I suggest you to move them one by one into another folder B, then scroll through the folder A.
it will certainly reset a few times, until at one point it wont' freeze, meaning the folder A does not contain the corrupted image anymore.
you then know that the last image moved from A to B is the culprit.

  • BB Pearl 8130 "access not allowed!" when trying to download Blackberry App World

Hi, well I am trying to download blackberry app world onto my blackberry pearl 8130 and whenever I try to download it it goes through the language prompts but then goes to a page with "access not allowed" My device software is v4.5, I am currently in Canada, I have the data plan, I can use the internet browser and my carrier is Telus. All help is appreciated, please and thank you!

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
"Access Not Allowed"? Is that the precise and exact message? If not, please do provide the precise message.
Please check this page to ensure you meet the minimum requirements (including if it is available in your country):
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/appworld/download.jsp
If it is available in your country and you feel you meet the device-level system requirements, then contact your carrier to ensure that you meet the service plan (from them) requirements for access (via their network) to AppWorld. Generic data plans, even unlimited, are usually not sufficient...a specific BB data plan is normally required.
Lastly, do be aware that AppWorld is merely a portal, vending apps developed mainly by others. As such, it is not your exclusive procurement source -- there are others that you can try (e.g., Handango, Handmark, BPlay, GetJAR or Mobihand). I have found that there are very few apps that are exclusive to AppWorld. You can search the on-line catalog and then search out other procurement sources, including quite often the developer website itself.
    Good luck!

  • Problems with Pearl 8130

Lately I've been having some issues with my Pearl 8130.  I have been able to temporarily correct these problems by removing my battery and resetting the phone, but the problems have gotten steadily worse so that I have to reset it ten times a day.
Sometimes when someone calls me it won't ring (yes, I've checked and my ringer is on); it will show me a missed call, but when I check my call log nothing is there.  Yes, someone is really calling, I did confirm that with the caller.
Sometimes when someone sends me a message in BB Messenger, it will show on my main screen the icon showing I have a new message, but when I open BB Messenger there is no message there.  If I click on my Message Icon, it shows there that I have a new BB message, but when I click on it, it takes me back to BB Messenger and there is no message there.  If I reset my phone by removing the battery, the BB message is there then.
I'm getting frustrated with having to take the battery out so many times a day.
    Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for any assistance!

YES!!  Memory Leak!! It's not just you.
I got sucked into getting a fun-sized Blackberry Pearl.  I love the interface, the trackball, the intelligent auto-text, the camera, the media player, everything.  It's a perfect phone.  Almost.
MY BLACKBERRY PEARL 8130 RANDOMLY DELETES ALL MESSAGES WITHOUT WARNING.
It happens to all Pearls with all carriers (VERIZON, SPRINT, T-MOBILE...)
It happens regardless of how much free memory you keep available.  I babysit my phone hourly, and it still happens.
It happens even though I have a 2-GIG memory card.
It happens if you let it sit on the counter and collect dust.
It happened to the refurbished unit they sent me to 'fix' it.
It doesn't warn you it's erasing itself.  You have to find out the hard way.
When it happens, it also continues to erase all incomming messages and missed call reports, even after it makes more room by doing that auto-brain-flush.
The only way to begin receiving messages again, is to remove the battery for a minute, and re-boot it.
Sprint tells you that it's an intentional design feature by RIM to make room. The 4 Sprint tech support people that I talked to, read from the same script.  They keep a sheet of tatterd and worn paper outlining the excuse that SPRINT brainwashed them into reading and believing.
Verizon offers to give you a newer model, but newer models do it too.  They might do it less because they have more internal memory, but since there is no set memory level for the crash to happen, I wouldn't trust a Curve, either.
RIM has people that post messages on boards like these, attempting to minimize this problem.  They pose as fake Blackberry owners, try to make you feel stupid, and blame it on the end-user.  It is not your fault.  There is nothing you can do.
My phone number is[removed personal information]
    My name is Nathan.
Call me, if you want.  I'll tell you all about it.
I kick myself for recommending this phone to my friends.  I have 3 fellow Blackberry-owning friends, and they all hate me.
I am hooked on the mini-QWERTY.  It's going to be hard to go back to my LG slider.  I'm digging it out of my junk drawer tonight, and getting it reactivated.
Are you STILL thinking about getting a Blackberry?  Do it, I dare you to not have these problems.
P.S.  No, the fancy new 4.5 software does not fix this, it causes more problems.  I tried it.  Now my 'smartphone' is merely an expensive day-planner.  Wait... no, it isn't even that.  My calendar doesn't save any dates.  The microphone and handset speaker doesn't work, so I can't call anybody.  Telenav doesn't give audible prompts, it just shows you where you are, and can't tell you where to go.  I wish I could tell somebody at RIM where to go.  Of course, it would be hard to mozy in that direction with their heads shoved so far up their assas.

I just purchased the Blackberry Pearl 8130. I've tried to charge it for the last two hours and it will not turn on. It is plugged into the wall - the red light blinks intermittently, indicating that it is charging, however I have not been able to power it up. Do I need to exchange it for a new one?

    Hi there!
Quite possibly...I would take it in for warranty evaluation, especially since it is so new.
    Good luck!

  • New updates not installing on Pearl 8130

I have Pearl 8130 and when i open the destop software it looks for updates.  It finds 3 updates but doesn't install them.  How do i get it to either stop bringing up the same updates or install them?
The 3 are Crypto 1 Library, Crypto Application API Library, and Secure Email Library.

Then ignore it. I had to do the same with about three language updates for a few months that it kept asking me to update.

  • Is picture messaging on BlackBerry Pearl 8130 possible?

I'm new to blackberries, I just got the pearl 8130 and I was wondering if there is anyway to send pictures messages instead of just emailing pictures. I was told by a sprint store employee that I could it was just a little tricky, but he did not tell me how and he sounded like he had never used a blackberry before. Could some one please fill me in.
    Thanks a bunch.

We all love our devices too Tracey, so lets see if we can get yours working
    the way it should!
So the device software that you have is the latest that is offered
by Verizon, the first thing I would try is a Security Wipe.  Before doing
the wipe you are going to want to make a backup of device information.
The backup can be done using the Desktop Manger (DTM), once DTM is opened
select Backup and Restore and choose the Backup Option.  Once you have a
backup of the device then you can do a security wipe, this is going to wipe all
the information off the device.  To do the security wipe go to Options –
Security Options – General Setting, once in General Settings hit the menu
button and you will have the Wipe Handheld option, click on this, the device
will then ask if you want to erase 3rd party applications, you can
say no to this as the backup does not contain any 3rd party
applications. You will then be prompted to enter the word BlackBerry to proceed
with the wipe.  The device will wipe and power off and back on, it is very
important that you NOT pull out the battery during this process.  Once the
device is back up you can go ahead and test to see if the call quality has
    improved.
If this works then we can look at doing a selective restore of your data.
If this does not work then we will be looking at reloading
    your device software.
Let me know how this works out for you!

  • Pearl to pearl ghost calls

    hey fellow pearl users,
ever had weird interactions with your contacts who also have pearls? my pearl went through a bout of sending the same text message repeatedly (like, 15x), but only to one contact, who also happened to have a pearl.
now i've got a different issue. a friend's phone (you guessed it--also a pearl) ghost calls me, every day, multiple times a day. no record of the call appears in her call log, and as far as we know, it's only happening with my phone.
any experience with this? advice? it's gone from mildly annoying to somewhat entertaining.

    OH, that is common.
For people who keep their BlackBerry Pearl in their pocket. Very common for button pushes and dialing the last called person.
AS well as sending the same text message over and over.
Any think else, more than that, you need to have your Pearl exorcised and washed seven times in the River Jordan.
But seriously, pocket or purse or butt dialing, yes, is known to happen.

  • Pearl 8130 will no longer sync with Outlook 2007 or Entourage 2008 Calendar via USB

I currently have the Pearl 8130 v4.5.0.77 running Desktop Manager v4.7 on my office computer (Windows XP) and Pocketmac on my home computer (iMac OS 10). I do not utilize the BES - all syncing is done via USB.
I previously used the earlier version of DM and had no issues syncing all information between the BB, iMac, and XP machines.  Now I can no longer sync any of my Calendar information - one-way or two-way - to or from the BB to either computer.  My, tasks, contacts/address book all sync without issue.
I've read through the various threads in this forum (and other online forums) and tried the various fixes with no success.  Any help is much appreciated.  The calendar sync is critical otherwise my Pearl could be cast to swine.

I had the same problem.  I found this answer in the Solution Center and it worked.  I found that after adding Facebook to my BB it had changed the default calendar.  This Resolution fixed it!
    Resolution 1
To resolve this issue, change the default calendar service book by completing the following steps:
From the Home screen of the BlackBerry smartphone, click Options > Advanced Options > Default Services.
Change the value of the Calendar (CICAL) field to the desired calendar service book.
Save the changes and synchronize again.
    Resolution 2
Upgrade to BlackBerry Device Software 4.3.0.97 or later.  For instructions, see KB03901.

  • Registering for Caller Display. Do I need to?

    Quick history:
Mod on this forum arranges new deal for me for combined Infinity/Call package.
I agree to new deal on condition that I get everything on my account as it was.
New contract starts (Broadband/Calls/Line Rental) on 10th of September 2013.
My Call Package includes BT Privacy, etc. at no extra cost. See pic below...
A few days later news breaks that BT intend to start charging for the same calling features.
I write to the Mod asking if I will have to start paying the fee for these services. He doesn't reply. Eventually I get a reply (obviously automated) telling me the info is on the website, and links to same.
I write back asking for a proper reply to my question; this time I get a reply from 'Yunus', but it doesn't answer the question, (he only confirms that line rental will go up 6.4%), so I try other means.
I use the price increase checker linked to on the other thread here; it tells me the Infinity/Calls Package will go up, but there is no mention of any changes to my Calling Features prices.
I try Live Chat; holy sh!t, these people are useless! Are they paid to just tell you want to hear?
    First guy tells me 'no increase' in any of my prices';
second guy says line rental going up, Infinity going up, but caller features package will not go up as they were included free in the package I signed up for with the Mod here
third, it's a girl; she says everything will go up, and if I choose to leave I need to pay a full year's charges for cancelling.
Plainly, they are not all correct.
All I want to know is, what is going up? When? Do I have to sign up/pre-register for this free year's Caller Display thing? Won't that mean my contracts for BB/Calls, and Line Rental will have different end dates?
I have read the big long thread about the rises, so do not require a repeat of the answers given there as most of them contradict each other anyway, just like Live Chat.
It would be helpful to get a reply from a Mod (preferably the one who signed me up to this new contract in the first place) and not from any of the BT 'groupies'.
    Thanks.
Incidentally, I've not had any letter or e-mail informing me of the price rises at all.

    Been there, done that!
Also spoke to Live Chat - pretty useless!
    My questions were:
    What else will go up?
Will I start being charged for caller display, etc. when they are clearly included free as part of the package I agreed to sign up for with your colleague?
Do I have to sign up/pre-register to get it for free when BT do start charging?
Will this mean my Line Rental and BB/Calls contracts will have different end dates?
I only want a straight answer to my questions; Customer Service have so far given me 5 different answers.

  • Caller display not worked since June 2014

On 26/06/14 I reported a fault (VOL-**********) that the caller display function had stopped working following a thunderstorm in the area. According to the fault status this fault is showing as being corrected and closed on 02/07/14 when in fact the fault still exists. I tested the line using the BT test socket with a new BT2000 phone and this displayed ‘incoming call’ therefore my internal wiring is not part of the problem. I have also dialled the test code *#234# to check if the caller display service is available and confirmed that it is. I then tested the new BT2000 phone on the neighbour’s telephone line and this showed the caller ID for incoming calls, as did my other telephone as well; therefore none of the telephone handsets are at fault. Three times BT have informed me that the fault has been fixed and yet I still have no caller display. Reading through the forums it would appear that other people have encountered similar issues and that the problem is at the exchange, “An Openreach engineer discovered that the RS232 burst transferring the CLI number up the line was too weak and he then went down to the exchange to investigate. He then discovered that the fault lay in the ADSL device which lies between the analogue exchange equipment and the outgoing line”.
I’m surprised to see that BT are taking so long to trace a fault in their system last raised 5/8/2014 (VOL012-**********) and that they haven’t sent an engineer to the property or to the exchange to check the problem.
My patience is wearing thin over this problem with my Caller Display not working as it started in mid June. I’m also becoming less enthusiastic about BT and find it harder to recommend them to others.
My last message from BT, tells me that it should be back to normal on the 8 August. However, it is still not working. Their message that my phone should be back to normal now and if it isn’t report this to BT, is ridiculous. If an engineer had investigated what was causing the fault and found it, then he would have fixed it. However, either an engineer has not investigated the fault or BT is not competent in fixing their own service faults and makes these statements with crossed fingers?

An engineer called yesterday and told me that he had been asked to test the line for a voice fault not a Caller Display fault. However, his testing revealed there is no line fault, CLI signal is strong and he was happy that the new BT2000 phone (bought after the lightning strike) is working properly. (This phone had also been tested on a neighbour’s phone line where it displayed the callers number). He also found that this same BT2000 phone on my line was not displaying the Caller’s number (CLI), but couldn’t offer any reason why.
I conjectured with him that these tests must bring the problem down to a corrupted CLI signal which does not allow the phone to understand the phone number being sent.
When the lightning struck the phone line back in June, it blew the telephone connection in the back of the Sky Box with a flash and bang (telephone cable now removed from the Sky box). It shorted the Openreach Faceplate (now replaced) so that the phones and broadband stopped working and it caused the phone to light up and react as it does when a call comes through.
Now isn’t it possible that the lightning also travelled along the copper wire to the green cabinet just outside the house and damaged something there which is corrupting the CLI signal, but which does not not show up when the voice line is tested? If not, then there must be a problem further back in the infrastructure, possibly in the Exchange, that is causing a corrupted signal to be sent to my phone?
He told me that another team would have to investigate the Caller Display fault as he was instructed to look into a voice issue and as a field engineer he was not able to investigate any problem that might be in the Exchange. I don’t know whether this Exchange Team would be able to investigate a problem in the Cabinet if nothing is found in the Exchange or can that only be done by a field engineer? He told me to contact BT again as he’d done all that he had been instructed to do and they would have to instigate a fault team to further investigate the problem.
When all this is considered we have the basic problem that BT are unable to provide me with a Privacy and Caller Display Service that I have been paying for, because of a fault in their infrastructure. How much longer is it going to take before they correct the problem that’s been going on since June 2014?

  • Old caller display CD1500

I have an old BT CD1500 unit which has inch high numbers and letters and includes a 70 number directory of names which displays instead of the number, a brilliant bit of kit, mine has been working for many years on an ordinary line, then later with BT Broadband.
I just had BT infinity fibre broadband installed, and the last call displayed was the Openreach Engineer to say he was on the way. The engineer did not check to see it was working before he left as he should have done.
When the CD stopped indicating new calls I rang to complain, but when we realised that the caller id on my cordless phone was still working Openreach told me the CD1500 was obsolete and there was nothing they could do. The CD1500 still showed the time correctly and indicated when the line was busy as normal, just no incoming calls indicated. Very suspicious that the equipment was working perfectly until the engineers came! After some research I uncovered the following vitally useful information.
Early BT caller display equipment usually will NOT work on Cable phone lines as they use a different signalling standard, later equipment is mostly dual standard, but you do need to check before switching providers. Mind you most sales people BT or cable company have no idea of this.
The thing that brought my CD1500 back to life was when I discovered that the unit is polarity conscious. For most modern phone equipment it does not matter which way round the incoming pairs of the phone line are connected although this used not to be true, old BT pay hones and the now obsolete party lines were dependant on the line pair being connected the right way round, but not any longer. As a result most Openreach engineers are lax about ensuring that lines are connected with correct polarity, and this does not usually matter, but it does matter with early caller display equipment like the CD1500.
This was easily fixed and hey presto incoming calls are now displayed as before.
Of course only Openreach engineers are allowed to mess with the line in this way, so unless you are absolutely sure you know what to do then don't, because you won't want to pay Openreach' wickedly exorbitant call out fees to fix any problems you may encounter. They should however agree to send someone out free of charge to swap the wires as they caused the problem in the first case, but you do need to be sure this is the cause of the problem first. It is scandalous that you may be expected to agree to pay to find out if the problem is something as simple and preventable as this.
So if you have elderly BT caller display gear that suddenly stops working especially after engineering attention to your line then the polarity may be the reason.

The CD 1500 is not compatible with broadband, due to the fact that the filters in the equipment, cannot pass the correct signalling conditions. This has been known about since broadband was first implemented. I had a CD 1500, which stopped working when I got broadband, a long time ago.
If you need a stand-alone caller display, then all of the new models will cope with the DTMF data burst which is transmitted along the line, before the first burst of ringing current.
