Pearl with gps and wi-fi

hiya,
does anyone know a way to get both gps and wi-fi in a pearl?  gps or wifi addon/card to supplement the missing feature in one of the current pearls? just wait and see if they ever do it?
thanx, bradt

Hi there,
I'm having exact the same issue with my iPhone4 and IOS 7.04. I upgraded to 7.1.1 to see if this would fix my GPS problem. Unfortunately it's not resolved by the upgrade. I've tried everything I could and found on the internet, but nothing helped me out. All other location services work when it comes to global positioning. But when it comes to more accurate positioning it failes and is way off. When I use the free app GPS Status it gives me the same results as you describe: 1,141m off and before it was much more accurate. The only way to get GPS accurate is to connect to a WiFi-hotspot.
Open for any suggestion.
Thanks in advance.

The three main features of the Iphone would be realy nice on an Ipod. The only that has keeped me from buying one is all the features that I want are on the Iphone and not the Ipod. I dom't want to pay the high fee for AT&T as I have sprint. Does anybody know if an upgrade like the Iphone features are in the works for the IPOD

I see that they have brought out the Ipod Nano with the FM radio and video. Lets hope that one day we see the same as well as GPS and FM on the IPOD touch. They bumped up the memory which is awsome but still waiting

  • Can I use BB Pearl with iMac and still with PC as well?

Hi. I've been using my BB pearl to synch with my PC for work (contacts/calendar/email). My personal computer is an iMac and I'd like to be able to synch the calendar and contacts to my BB pearl also. Is this possible? If so, how? Thanks for the help!

There is an article on BB Geeks about synching your BB with both Mac and PC.

  • Envy 17 3D 2090NR: Compatible wireless minicard/module with GPS, preferably 4g (or 3G)?

We're looking for a compatible internal wireless minicard/module with GPS and preferably 4g for a series of Envy 17 3d 2090NRs. We also NEED to maintain WiFi, but on the Envy 17 3D I believe the Intel WIFI is integrated on the mobo... If not, we'll need at least 802.11 a/b/g/n WiFi in whatever minicard/module solution we go with,
The selected minicard/module must also be compatible with either AT&T or Verizon.

Take a look at the AT&T or Verizon offerings for the USB solutions that they recommend  and/or sell or lease. Your notebook does not have an externally accessible  mini-PCIe port nor a slot for a WWAN module.

  • GPS coordinates with minutes and seconds always 0

I noticed the geotagged photos from my Android phone (Samsung Galaxy S3 with Android 4.3.1 Jelly Bean) have GPS coordinates always rounded to integers in Aperture. However when viewing the photo coordinates on the phone directly before importing in Aperture, or using a non-Apple tool (such as ExifTool), precise coordinates with minutes and seconds are displayed. After some research, I conclude this is an Apple bug. It affects iPhoto and Preview.app too (probably due to same underlying code reading Exif tags).
Did you experience the same bug? What phone and firmware were used to take the picture?
For the technical record, here's the bug (which I've notified to Apple). Internally (in the binary format of Exif tags), coordinates are represented by 3 values for degrees, minutes and seconds. Each of these values is represented by a rational number encoded with 2 integers (numerator and denominator). Most cameras will set an integer in the degrees values, and fractional part in the minutes and/or seconds. This format is properly decoded by Aperture. It is however valid format to set minutes and seconds values to 0, and a non-integer value in degrees, such as 70,764,776 / 10,000,000 = 7.0764776 deg. This format is not correctly parsed by Aperture.

Yosemite has fixed the issue. Coordinates are now correctly displayed.

  • E 51 freezing with maps and GPS

My E 51 is sometimes freezing while using maps with GPS LD4W.
Anybody any idea why? I happens most of the time after using maps for a few hours without problem.

You assume your company is a "Destination"?
People are going to navigate from East McKeysport just to come visit you?
Garmin works everywhere, even where there is no cell coverage like the middle of
Alaska, Texas, and the desert south west. Even getting GSM signals there is a challenge. Forget 3G.
Garmins (and tomtoms) are optimized for driving. You can even get voice command versions. You can download new map yearly. (How quick do you think they build new roads?).
You get turn by turn voice directions, Lane change hints, Speed Camera warnings, waypoint info, and bluetooth interface with your phone. It imports your phone's phone book, lets you dial on the screen, Knows the phone numbers of all the hotels along your route, reads your text messages to you in your native language, calculates your ETA, advises you of traffic snarls and routes you around them, records your trip log, gets current gas prices from MSN, and Yes, even recommends restaurants. It delivers you to the proper side of the street when you select and address, not on the wrong side of 6 lanes of traffic. It tells you what the current speed limit is, knows which streets are one way and even show traffic levels. It projects an image similar to the road layout and instantly recalculates your route when you don't pay attention and miss a turn.
If you want that in a phone, you better hope Garmin slaps a phone chip in the Personal Navigation Devices, as they were rumoring to be planning. Its much easier to fit a phone into a complex gadget than to fit the Gadget into a phone.
If you think your iPhone, or any phone is going to do all that for you, you are delusional.

  • If I buy a ipad mini with cellular, and not sign up for cellular service, can I use the onboard GPS, or does it depend on the cell signal since it is aGPS

If I buy a ipad mini with cellular, and not sign up for cellular service, can I use the onboard GPS, or does it depend on the cell signal since it is aGPS?

Right. But as I understand it, the aGPS is a function that speeds location using cell signals, but isn't necessary for the GPS signal. I can buy a plugin device that is a real GPS that I can use with my iPad mini. However, I would need an app for maps. I was wondering if anyone had used one of these.

  • 8230 Pearl Flip GPS problem

How do I get my 8230 Pearl Flip GPS to work.  Please provide more than stand in an open area and wait.  I have tried multiple times, up to 30 minutes at a time to get a satellite.  Occasionally it will find a satellite but will not hold onto it for more than a few minutes.  I have a coworker with a Blackberry Curve that will locate 9 satellites within seconds of turning it on.  Should the flip do the same?

I don't see way to type anything in, once I get to status.  What am I missing.   Mine seems to lock on about once out of every 50 tries or so.

  • GPS and Telmap not working

Hey guys, getting a bit fed up with the run around going on. I purchased the Telmap Naviagtor for my Backberry pearl 8120, when it didn't work I contacted them. They told me to contact Orange and Orange said to contact Blackberry. So at the moment my £50 Telmap is being wasted..
My problem is the GPS. Telmap told me to try and refresh my GPS, and when I do so it says 'GPS Location Update Failed'. It only searches for a split second. Because this isn't working, Telmap can't locate me at all.
If anyone has any advice it is greatly appreciated.

Is your GPS in the device works independently? If not go to your carrier and ask for resolution from them.

  • Progams that work with Alltel and Suddenlink are no longer working with VERIZON (IRC)

I have worked this issue TO DEATH already and am getting FED UP!
I have been polite and nice and called customer support to get very short and not very explicit answers to this issue.
Complaint #1: When I call technical support and ask questions more complicated than " How do I plug in my computer?" they inform they are transferring me to TECHNICAL support.  Okay so who did I call in the first place if not tech support.
Problem:  IRC ( Internet Relay Chat)  Is one of the main things that I enjoy doing online.  Some do games, some do work.  I do it all through my little IRC program.  When I was with Alltel and had my little blackberry pearl.  I could even get onto irc just fine that way.  Getting on via a cell phone is kind of a pain.  Small keyboard and lots of typing isn't my idea of that relaxing but.. okay whatever at least I could get on.  Since Alltel became Verizon I was told to upgrade my phone to the brand new Blackberry Curve.  Well now IRC didn't work.  I upgraded to the LG Vortex.  Now it works on my phone.  So I upgraded my wireless card too and IRC worked just fine for a long time.  NOW we are back to the same old same old.
For those of you not familiar with the program just wiki it.  I have been told by NUMEROUS customer support reps that this program is not being blocked so this is the list of things I went through to make sure it was indeed NOT me or my computer.
Step 1: System restored before most recent updates to the last date that it was working.
    NO GO
Step 2: Disabled firewall and virus software temporarily and even turned down my security on my browser
    NO GO
Step 3: Re updated my computer and updated my firmware on my MIFI2200 card.
    No go
    Step 4-7 Called customer Support
    NOPE.
Still waiting.  I am paying for a service that is not providing.  My entire family was with Alltel and is now with Sprint.  I just keep asking myself why am I still with Verizon when all we ever do is fight.  I hate to admit it to the kids but I think it's time for a divorce from you if we can't get this issue resolved.  Before upgrading to these devices I even asked store reps if irc programs would work and they assured me " OH YES!  With these new upgrades things will be better than ever!"
I realize to some this seems like not a very big deal, but when I am paying for a service so that I can come home relax, maybe take a few art commisions while chatting on irc and all the sudden I either can't use it or can use it when I couldn't before it's amazingly frustrating.  I have taken my computer over to other people's houses to see if turning my security all the way back up as well as my firewall made a difference, but on any provider OTHER than verizon I can connect just fine.
Tell me WHY Verizon.  Tell me why you either can't fix this.. or won't fix this.
Security issues?  That's my problem.  If I want to connect to a DNS server based program that connects via different ports.. that should be MY decision.  You should NOT get to make that choice for me.
It's amazing I went to the customer support for IRC and they told me that Verizon doesn't allow you to use IRC.  I have checked NUMEROUS boards and discussion forums only to have them tell me that VERIZON does NOT allow you to use IRC.   However when I talk to Verizon they say " No it must be you.. "  Well I am not taking that excuse anymore.  I've done my share of work on this problem.  Now it's your turn.  Sorry to be rude.. but I paid for the mIRC program, and take artwork commisions over it as well.  I probably pay more for verizon's service than I would with sprint (so says the rest of the family).
Please give me some real answers and real tech support.
    Thanks for any help.

I choose option 3.  The moment I talk to them about anything more complicated than the bare basics of getting connected they tell me they will transfer me to " tech support."  Very frustrating lol.  I always wonder who I was on the phone with prior to that because it says Tech support but clearly there must be different levels of their support lines.  Sometimes I get someone who will talk and work with me, but generally I get someone who says " Okay I have down your issue and I'll pass it along.."  then they hang up.  However I have been transferred twice in one sitting from "tech support" to Tech support.  So I dunno.  I think they don't have an answer and so they run me in circles.

Hi. I just brought nokia n95 8gb(Singapore model). I just updated my cell to 11 firmware. Now i have a big problem with GPS. I can find some satellites but i cant establish connection with them. How i can fix this problem? All the time if im going to google maps for example i can only see yellow blinking(satellite search) ...it never turns green...And i'm living in USA,New York. I tried differenet places and it doesnt work..Singapore phone doesn't work properly in US?

  • Help With GPS options

I am using my phone and do not want any "data" transfer so the carrier doesn't pick my phone up as a smart phone.  The phone is a 700.  Note that I do have Mobile Data turned off and Allow Mobile Data Usage set to in home network only.  Having the Data Usage settings configured that way might override how the following is set or should be set.
I am confused by all the "Positioning  Methods" and other options.  These are located under Settings/Applications Settings/Positioning/Positioning Methods.  Here you have -
    1- Assisted GPS
    2- Integrated GPS
    3- Bluetooth (self explanatory)
    4- WiFi Network
    5- Network Based
What are the differences in these options and which one or combination can I run for the best performance but without incurring any data charges?  To further complicate things under Settings/Application Settings/Map Apps/General there are several additional options I do not understand exactly.
1- Connection- either offline or online?
2-Network Destination- either Internet, multimedia message or WAP services
As a comment to Nokia, the manual sure leaves a lot to be desired.  There should be an option by option explanation for these items along with a zillion more that I find on the phone but not in the documentation.
    Thanks for your help all.

The attached User Guide should answer all the queries.. refer Pg. 6/7 for the First Part of query .. and Pg. 4 for the Second.. Network Destination should be 'Internet'
Integrated GPS  and Bluetooth GPS will give you Navigation without incurring any Data cost. But for the later you will need an external GPS receiver. The FIX will take much longer with the Integrated GPS.
Note that the User Guide is for Maps 3.06 but holds good for your query ..
