Pearson VUE -- unable to sit 1Z0-052 exam

Good day to everyone,
I am writing to ask for an advice regarding 1Z0-052 exam in Australia with Pearson VUE.
My experience that it is pretty much impossible due to technical issues in testing centres.
I have had the exam scheduled for 5th August 2010 in EXCOM Education (Brisbane, Australia), but the exam failed to start on the day.
After waiting for almost two weeks (Pearson VUE was "investigating incident") and nagging them a few times I've been able to have exam rescheduled to September date. Before the exam date I have been called again and informed that the testing centre is unable to run the exam. Rescheduled again, this time to Dimension Data centre in Brisbane. The nearest available spot happened to be on 25th November.
The exam failed to start again in the new centre. This time again I've had to call Pearson VUE several times over the past three weeks to get a response... that I have to reschedule the exam again, at a new testing centre.
The problem is -- there are no more testing centres in Brisbane. The closest centre offered is more than 700 km away, and there is no guarantee that an exam will actually run there this time.
I am not happy with this solution, as I have wasted two working days already with no results and I don't want to waste time and money again (it would cost me $500 just to get to the testing centre).
Now it is almost five months since I have been ready to pass the exam and I have not a slightest idea when it might possibly happen.
Could anyone tell me if s/he has sat an Oracle 11g Administration I exam (1Z0-052) anywhere in Australia?
I am looking for a testing centre that is actually capable to let me sit the exam, as Pearson just doesn't seem trustworthy anymore.
Or should I just get a refund and forget about Oracle certification?

Thanks again, Brandye.
All problems have been resolved by now.
I have been contacted by the Pearson VUE in the end of December.
They said that there is a new testing centre opening in Brisbane that would be able to deliver the exam.
I was also refunded the exam fee I have paid before and given a voucher code for a free retest.
I have successfully passed the test at the Training Choice testing centre and now happily await the certification kit.
I dare to say that before you interfering my perspectives did not look promising, so thanks for your help.
Kind regards,
Nikita Nadezhdin

  • Simple question about 1z0-052 exam

    Hello everyone,
When I went to my local testing site to register exam, my Vue administrator told me that 1z0-052 exam is labeled as Oracle Database 11g: Administration Workshop I!
So, the question is, is this exam that is needed to finish OCA certification?
Since there is minor mismatch in name(VUE has workshop in a name of exam, while Oracle site does not, but the exam code is same - 1z0-052),so I would really like to be 100% sure that I'm registering for the right exam.
    Thanks in advance

I know for sql exam, but I'm more concerned about Administration 1 exam.
Let me simplify my question, all those who registered at VUE for 1z0-052 did you registered for this exam:

    However to answer your question:-
The link [http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=41&p_exam_id=1Z0_052] which is authorative
Links the exam entitled: Oracle Database 11g: Administration I on 1 1-1 basis with code +1Z0-052+
Given you have implied you have passed a relevant SQL exam, 1z0-052 is all that remains for you to complete requirements for 11g DBA OCA.

nehaReading your post I am concerned, perhaps for no reason, that you may be targetting more at passing exams and gaining certifications rather than gaining Oracle knowledge and experience.
The properly perparing DBA candidate attempting to take the exam 'soon' should have calibre to be aware
    - http://www.oracle.com/pls/db112/homepage
    - there is an equivalent book by Sybex (Searchable for on major booksellers).
    - Courses at education.oracle.com
    - Authorised practice Tests: http://www.oracle.com/global/us/education/certification/sts.html
    - Training from Oracle ... http://www.oracle.com/education
Be aware there may be offers of unauthorised learning material ....
    http://blogs.oracle.com/certification/2009/05/the_route_you_choose.html
(Posts like this one often encourages spamming by dishonourable certification unsafe braindump promotors).
Unlike 1z0-051the 1z0-052 exam treated as a 'high stakes' exam.
'Easy' is relative; however i suspect many would find 1z0-051 easier than 1z0-052.

  • Oracle 1Z0-052 exam help !!

    Hi,
I have passed SQL fundamental-I (1Z0-051) exam and now I am preparing for oracle database Administration exam-I(1Z0-052), but I have few questions :
    (1) Is knowledge of linux/solaris is must to pass this exam.
    (2) Is their is any requirement of PL/SQL before starting for this exam study.

As Brandye says, you should use the exam topics to plan your study.  The answer to your questions, however, is no to both.  You can find links to Oracle documentation, articles, books and videos relevant to this exam here:

  • No test center in Brisbane for Oracle 1Z0-052 exam (Oct 2011)

Looking through this forum it looks like this has been a problem on and off for a couple of years.
Anyone know when there will be a testing center in Brisbane?
The nearest one is currently 700km away in Rockhampton - that's not a viable option.

I have the same problem, and I was told by VUE service desk that they had been negotiating with a new test centre in Brisbane, hopefully, it will be opened in November.

  • Current issues with Pearson VUE Exams delivery

I believe new Pearson VUE software has been issued and some testing stations have been unable to delivery Oracle Exam.
I have been today been to 2 different testing centers to take 1z0-047.
Neiither was able to deliver the exam.
Some issues may be the testing centers have not been unambiguously informed of the effects of new software.
It fact this is 3 times in a row I have now been to a Pearson VUE testing center to taken an exam currently under the stewardship of Oracle (the first wasn't at the time) and on no occsaion was int delivered!!!
If there is a widespread Pearson VUE issue out there I hope it gets sorted soonest.
Meanwhile there goes a wasted morning plus more wasted time if I choose to revise for and take actually take this exam.
just having a rant - bigdelboy.

I have received information from the second test center indicating they were unable to deliver the oracle exam as they did not have latest Pearson VUE software loaded (and this required an amount of time and could not be scheduled today).
In fairness to this test center i was booked with them at short notice following the failure of the first test center to deliver the exam and they proably did not have time to fully check the requirements. (In fact top dollar for accomodating me). In fact as I was limbering up outside before entering I did a risk assessment as to what could go wrong and there was some danger of a stray golf ball from the golf course crashing into the test center room. Anyway they have been as nice as possilble and even gave me a decent badwith their logo on (I debated about sticking it over my head and jumping into fareham creek with it on), but then remembered my car was low on petrol (gas), in fact running on vapourand needed to go back to North harbour do refuel.
The orginal test center may have had a firewall issue; however their notwork engineer was at North harbourand they could not sort, so their problem may be different. The college's new testing room seemed nice. It's the second time the've failed to deliver an exam to me, perhaps its a bit too close to Portsea island for me and jinxed. They will go on red alert if i go anywhere near them again! (They are actuall very friendly with good banter, but professional as well, and i like testing there as its a positive atmosphere for me).
Anyway i am rambling like a heifer ...
More seriously can Oracle please ensure Pearson VUE has procedures in place to ensure that when an Oracle exam is booked at a testing center the center has the correct software to do so; and to flag if there is risk of an issue
While it is probably easy for Pearson VUE to blame the test center it is actually Pearson's issue not to have automated systems  in place to identify when this may be an issue.  I may be being unfair here as perhas this was checked at start of day but not identified as the second test was booked hastily.

  • Oracle exam 1Z0-052 in Perth, Western Australia

    Hi All,
I am planning to take 1Z0-052. I am based in Perth, Western Australia. I just bought the exam voucher from the Oracle University; and I heard the exam was a proctored exam.
I would like to ask for anybody who already done this exam. Was it hard? and where did you do the exam in Perth, Western Australia? I assume I have to go to the appointed exam instituion for this.
    Is it prometric?
    Thank you

    Hi Brandye,
I just did the 1Z0-052 exam, and i passed. Thank you for your info. It is correct that Oracle exam is delivered through Pearson VUE. For those of you who lived in Perth, Western Australia you will need to arrange your exam through Pearson VUE website - but you will have the exam at the authorised testing centre. I had mine at amcom Septimus Roe square. The exam was harder than 1Z0-051 but it was ok.

  • 1Z0-051 exam tips

    Hi everybody
My name is Jon Toshmatov and I am preparing for 1Z0-051 exam and I would like to ask you a few questions.
First, a little my background, I work for IBM in mainframe storage team and prior to IBM I have a few years of DBA experience.
Within 3 months I want to pass the 1Z0-051 exam and next 3 months 1Z0-052 exam and obtain OCA certification within total 6 months. Is this doable?
I am using this book "OCA Oracle Database 11g SQL Fundamentals I Exam Guide: Exam 1Z0-051 (Osborne ORACLE Press Series) " and Oracle manuals from Oracle website. Any other textbooks you would recommend?
Please share some tips and hints with me so I can build my preparation strategy.

Preparation time depends on the individual and how much time they have. Do not be surprised if your preparation time for 1z0-051is shorter than that for 1z0-052. Also be aware if you want to move to DBA OCP you need mandatory training at some point

    Hi People
I hope all you are doing well.
I just need help. I want to take 1Z0-052 Exam (Oracle 11g Administration I).
I have Oracle 9i OCA. So, I want to know How I have to prepare. B'coz no dumps are available any where.
I read the certification book of oracle press.
    Thanks
    Saurabh

    Saurabh,
I am not sure that you are picking the right path. You said that you are already 9i OCA. So why not finish up your 9i OCP and go for the 11g New Features Exam for 9i DBAs? In any case, you would be required to know about 10g before to go for 11g(it would be better). So this would be the best way IMO for you.
Check about the exam details here,

Forget about dumps, just prepare well and go for the exam.

  • 1z0-052 preparation and real practice...

    Hello.
I have successfully passed SQL Fundamentals I exam recently and my new aim is Administration I. I purchased necessary 1z0-052 exam guide by John Watson, however without practice it is impossible to neither get skills nor pass exam. Will it be enough to try applying everything that is in a book on Oracle 11g XE that was published recently? There are different versions of Oracle 11g that are available for download but I am not really sure which is enough for preparation. Should I pay for those versions?
I kindly ask you to advise me the necessary applications, systems that could help me to get skills for both certification and real practice.
    Rustam Aliyev

If you're trying to pass the DBA track exams, I would suggest downloading the enterprise edition of whatever version of the database you want to be certified on rather than using the express edition. The OTN license will generally allow you to prepare for certification exams (or any other self-study purposes) using the enterprise edition without purchasing a license.
The express edition does things a bit differently than the other editions from a DBA standpoint because it is designed to be used in an environment where there may not be a DBA. I wouldn't use the express edition to prepare for DBA certification exams.

  • Question about Pearson Vue registration

    Hi All,
I read some of the threads here and it sounds like there were some problems merging exam history with Pearson Vue.
I'm OCP certified and I had done my exams with Prometric. I registered for a web account on the Pearson Vue website and i'm not waiting for an email. During the registration process, there was a question asking if I was certified and I said yes but the prometric ID didn't get accepted.
I'm sure a lot of people has gone through that same process...After you got your email, were you able to see your exam history?
    Thanks.

Thanks. The problems occur if you take examinations under 2 different Oracle Testing Ids.
The result of this is the Oracle Certification Database see the owners as 2 different entities and if exams from both are required for a certifcation that would not be delivered.
So it is kind of important (actually near vital) your Pearson VUE account has you Oracle Testing Id. matching the Prometric Id you used in previous tests.
Now with the answers you've given you may find it gets corrected 'automatically' .... but if the 2 are different it seems to give problems downstream with the merge.
I am a bit unclear what is meant by I am not waiting for an email. Does this means you registered with Pearson VUE twice?
    Now while
    Patience is a virtue,
    virtue makes a saint,
    Saints are a football team
    And I'm sure Pompey aint
is not true as Pompey have avoided liquidation via administration patience is a virtue in this.
When someone who registers with Pearson VUE who has previously tested with Prometric one of 3 things happens (sometimes because of the form):
    - They register saying they have not tested with Oracle Before:
---- They then get a New Oracle Testing Id and take exams and wonder why certifications do not occur as they expect .. and eventually they get a merge. Thankyou for increasing the exam costs.
    - They register with Pearson VUE, say they've tested before, enter their old Prometric Id, wait for the email saying all is sorted and they are abl to register and take exams.
---- This is fairly seamless with a 3 or 4 day delay.
    - The say they've tested before but do not enter an Oracle Testing Id.
---- My understanding is registration occurs and the're Oracle Testing Id. typically is updated with the correct old Pearson VUE automatically. But I cant be sure of this. I think some people say this has happened. If this happens they are find, if it doesn't they are stuffed.
The pearson VUE history will only ever show exams taken with Pearson VUE. It does not know about Certifications, only exams.
Oracle Certview system will show exams taken with Prometric and Pearson VUE. It is derived from the Oracle Certification Database which was initialized from Prometric history. Certview knows about exams and Certifications.
Access to Certview is obtained by your Oracle SSO being account linked with your Oracle Testing Id though a Certview Profile. Certview Profiles are updated via the Pearson VUE website updating the your account which has your oracle Testing Id.
These systems are not real time linked and their are delays while batch updates occur.
Having a single Oracle Testing Id. makes all this go well. Having 2 means chaos results.

  • What is the new Oracle exame that just showed up on Pearson vue today called - Exam:1Z1-006: Oracle Database Foundations?

    Hi,
I just saw a new beta exam show up today (Thursday, April 23th) on Pearson Vue called
    1z1-006 Oracle Database Foundations?
Is this an OCA, OCP, OCE, or OCS?
    Is this exam for teaching?
    Is this exam for design.
    Help me
    Roger

I guess exam content is speculation (unless insider knowledge is available ... in which case an NDA would be in force) until Oracle publishes some information, and perhaps until we can see the exam topics.
In essence Pearson Vue knows nothing about how exams link to form certifications, however it's website  can sometimes get exam scheduling updates a little before they arrive on the oracle website.
Any information from Oracle is likely to appear here: New and Upcoming Releases
... or if/when this link becomes active: Exam 1Z0-106 (NB: wrong link ... Matthew has a good link above)
.... And I guess an Oracle Certification blog entry too will be likely.
.... Various people have on this forum commented on the downsides of 1z0-051/1z0-061 as an entry point into Oracle RDBMS Database with 'SQL' rather than 'RDBMS' being the focus point.  ( IMHO These exams do a good job of examining Oracle SQL .... ).
If non database (Oracle Enterprise) specific if would also be applicable to MySQL, RDB, .... etc).
It will be interesting to see how and where Oracle views where this exam will sit, who its target candidates are and what certification(s) it will participate in ..... I Codd you not  !
Added 03may2015: Realised some glaring deficiencies in this post by getting the code mixed up between 1z0-106/1z0-006 .... any that Matthew had gvien the correct link earlier!  I have only just pulled my head out of the bucket.
