Peculiar behavior of 3D graph grid lines

I am quite familiar with the 3D graph utilities in LabVIEW, but I recently discovered some strange behavior of the grid lines that I don't understand. See attachment. There are vertical gap/distortion features in the grid that appear to be errors in the generation of grid triangles. My first thought was that there was a problem with the input data. However, by simply adjusting the scaling of the X and Y axes, these grid features can be made to appear and dissappear, move around to different locations on the grid, and even the number of them changes. I don't think these effects can be explained by bad data. Does anyone out there have any ideas about what might be causing these features?

I found a work-around to the graphing error. If I put a very slight amount of noise onto the X and Y data, it works perfectly.
BTW, I can't use a Z matrix because I need to be able to plot unstructured X and Y points.

  • Can grid lines on a XY Graph be made dashes from solid

I'm using the SPC toolset. When the control limits are plotted (in red) if the control limit is placed over a grid line, the color of the control limit changes becoming much less visible. If I can make the grid lines dashed, at least a portion of the control limits will remain red for visibility. I can find no way to change the grid lines other than color.

You could try grabbing a screen print of the graph and edit it in photoshop or similar to look the way you want. Then customise the control, paint it transparent and use your image as its background. I have done something similar to make a psychrometric chart (attached)

  • Grid lines on PDA XY graph

Has anyone found a way to get grid lines onto a PDA XY graph? Is graphic overlay a possibility? Am I missing something obvious (like it can't be done)?

I haven't tried changing the line style - yet.
I did try overlaying lines from the decorations palette, but when I ran the gui, the lines got shoved to the back under the graph. Then I thought I would make the graph transparent, but when I ran it it turned black. Basically, the same results when I tried overlaying a transparent png (after installing png support of course).

  • Grid lines appear in bold format in Graphs - OBIEE 10g

    Dear Experts,
I am facing an issue with the grid lines in the graphs in reports.
All the graphs in reports(webcat) are appearing with 'bold GRID lines' instead of normal grid lines which in turn is affecting the look and feel of the graphs in the webcat. Is there any way to eliminate this by setting any parameter in XML files?
I am using OBIEE 10g version. Kindly let me know your inputs so as to eliminate this bold grid lines in all the graphs.
    Thanks,

  • Vertical grid lines and Dates on Graph

When I use date values on the x-axis for a graph, the only vertical grid lines that appear in the graph are at the year boundary. For example, if I was showing data for 3 years, I get 3 vertical grid lines; one at each January.
How can I get vertical grid lines at each month?
It will work if I convert the date to character, but then I lose the ability of Oracle Reports to fill in the tick marks for missing dates (say, if there isn't any data between January and March, the graph will still show a label for February).

    Hi, Ravens Fan.
    Thanks for your reply.
Now, the main loop has a wait statement, but the problem remains. I'm using LabView 2009, and I didn't see this behaviour in the previous version, LabView 8.6.
I send you back the uptaded program, and two snapshots as well:
    - snapshot 1: just after pressing "Run", "increment" value takes "maximum" value; due to this, there's only one text marker, at "12:00" (there should be one major grid line and one text marker every 10 minutes as "increment" value is set to 600 before entering the while loop);
    - snapshot 2: when pannning, "minor increment" takes "maximum" value, and due to this, vertical grid lines don't show any more (there should be one minor grid line every 5 minutes as "minor increment" is set to 300 before entering the while loop).

  • How do I add a time stamp to the moving "Major Grid Lines" of a Waveform Chart?

    Hello
    I am using LV 8.5.1
I am using a Waveform Chart and I have turned on the "Major Grid LInes" using the properties tab of my waveform chart. (properties-->scale->grid lines)
When the code executes, I want to attach  a time stamp to each moving yellow grid line.
So as the grid lines move from right to left, there is an associated time stamp for each.
    Can someone help!
    thanks

    hova2010,
If you right click on your graph and go to X Scale >> Style >> and then choose one of the 3 styles on the far left you shoul see timestamps for those grid lines.

  • Spreadsheet component - bottom grid line not displaying in swf file

    Hi,
I'm having an issue with the spreadsheet component. I'm using the "Ignore blank cells in Values" option on the behavior tab. This works fine. The problem I'm having is the bottom grid line in the spreadsheet table is not displaying in the swf file. The bottom grid line displays correctly in Preview mode....but is not displaying in the swf file. Anyone have any ideas on why?
    Thanks

I'm not sure if I've interpreted your response correctly.  Our entire dashboard app is built on the swf files being called from the URL buttons.  We are not using HTML files.  Are you saying that if I do a file export to HTML that the swf file generated from this will display the bottom grid lines?
I noticed that the spreadsheet component grid lines display correctly in the swf when not checking the ignore blank cells option in the behavior tab.
So what would be our options here.....either uncheck the display grid lines for the spreadsheet component to not display the grid lines at all, or do not use the ignore blank cells option in the behavior tab to display a fixed number of rows each time?
    Thanks for the response, Matt.

  • Are dashed grid lines possible without bitmap background?

    Hi,
I am trying to get dashed grid lines onto my graph.  Having searched around, I suspect that I can only achieve this by setting the background as a bitmap that has the dashed lines on.  Is this correct?
I think that this was addressed in the .NET version, which now has this functionality, but not in the (legacy) VC++ version.  I just wanted to confirm that this was the case.
    Solved!

    Hi Richard,
After installing the legacy support version to one of our machines I can confirm that the feature you're looking for does not seem not available for VC++. Unfortunately as this is legacy support it is unlikely the feature will be added in the future.
I hope this answers your question

  • Multiple XY Graph grid

I have a XY Graph with multiple Y axis and I want the grid lines from the 3 Y axis to line up.
But I also want to keep the auto scale function.
    Is this possible?
    Solved!

    Hi TBN,
    nope...
Either use autocaling and turn off grids (for atleast two of your Y axis) or do the scaling based on your own algorithm that keeps grid lines "lined up"...

  • How do I hide the axis but show the grid lines in CNiGraph?

I'm trying to create an oscilloscope like view for real time display of multichannel data. Each channel is supposed to be presented in it's own graph. All graphs are vertically stacked in one column.
How can I turn in the gridlines to give me ten divisions while having the axis hidden?
When I hide the axis the gridlines are hidden as well. Furthermore, I cannot seem to get the coordinates for the plot area so that I can draw the grids myself.
The view I'm trying to create will look similar to the NI BioBench acquisition software which can be seen at: http://sine.ni.com/apps/we/nioc.vp?cid=10435〈=US
    Thanks,
    Johnny Sundblom

    Try this:
Bring up the property pages for the graph and go to the Ticks tab.
Check the Major and Minor boxes in the Grid Lines section.
Make sure that all check boxes in the Tick Marks section are unchecked.
Make sure that all check boxes in the Labels section are unchecked.
Make sure that the Axis Caption is cleared.
I think this will do what you want.

  • Grid Line options

    Hello,
i want to have grid lines on an xy graph like in a oscilloscope.
i want the number of lines to be a constant (10).
what is hapen that when the scale is set to auto scal the number of lines changes all the time.
    Thanks.

    G'Day,
Depending on which version of LabVIEW you are useing, right click on the Y-axis and select "Formatting..." The you get a dialog box similar to the one below, where you can click on the little "grid options" box, and select your grid style (see the attached image). Once you have selected the right style, click OK to get out of the dialog, and then you can set arbitrary lines, as decribed above.

  • Graph Grid Display Glitch in Logarithmic Mapping for Precision of 6

Not a biggie, but if you use Logarithmic Mapping for a scale, and choose to display the grid, things are fine up to a precision of 5:
Increase that to 6 and you get this:
Notice the useless increase of grid line density towards the end of the scale.
It does not seem to depend of what kind of style you are using (Scientific here).

Your tone is misplaced. Ravens Fan is a volunteer on this site just as you and me. He is not in the position to change anything about how LabVIEW behaves.
Also note that such seemingly minor things like this are both in fact minor things and often VERY difficult to fix without breaking some other corner case. So the math is this:
    Inconvinience = minor
Possible effort to fix = Huge
Conclusion = don't fix (or at least do nothing until the graph gets a major overhaul anyhow)

  • Is there a way to turn on grid lines in mailboxes like you could in Eudora?

If anyone here has used Eudora, then you probably know that you could customize the message listing for a mailbox to turn on grid lines between message lines and or columns if you wanted.
Does anyone know of a hack that could do that, or maybe just tell Mail to highlight every other row for easier list readability?
    Thanks!

That would be an improvement to the interface. I've been looking for some time and not found a way to do it though. Anyone else?
