Pegasus R4 storage connection to Thunderbolt monitor

Promise tech support tells me that the Apple Monitor (thunderbolt) needs to be last in the chain.  This will totally defeat the ability to plug the MacBookAir into the montor accessary power and the thunderbolt connector with the power "y" connector.  Currently I have the MacBookAir near the Thunderbolt Monitor for the utility of the power and thunderbolt connector.  I used the 2 meter Apple thunderbolt cable from the Apple Thunderbolt Monitor to the Promise Pegasus R4 storage.
And it just works!
Am I doing anything wrong?  Unless I want to have the storage box on the desktop...NO...this is the only way reasonable.
Thoughts?
WT

I have an R6 and it is the LAST in the chain - Mine works fine with no issues.  I can not imagine why it would matter - Did they give you any reason why they thought it would make a difference?

Did you try to hook up both monitors to the Belkin adaptor? Trying will determine if your monitor has a bad input port. See if the Belkin adaptor is the problem. I have never used that specific adaptor, but I have always had luck with the Dr. Bott's DVI for ADC adaptor. Best of luck.

  • HT5219 Can I connect my thunderbolt monitor to my MacBook Pro and iMac at the same time

I am wanting to connect my thunderbolt monitor to my MacBook Pro as a secondary monitor when running programs in windows 7 thru boot camp, and also have it connected to my iMac as a secondary monitor when working thru apps on my iMac. Is there a way to do this without having to connect and disconnect cables each time I want to switch.

I don't think it can be done without a KVM switch, & not sure they can handle that resolution.

  • Will Mac Pro Air connect with Thunderbolt Monitor

I'm searching for a new computer. Confused about the Thunderbolt Monitor. It will not connect to iPads will it connect to 2008 and 2012 models? How does this work and what is the benefits of this monitor? Was going to get a desk top and noticed the Thunderbolt monitor. Please give me some information regarding this item.
And why won't the iPad connect to this monitor.

The Thunderbolt monitor will connect to the 2012 MacBook Air but not the 2008 model as this one does not have a Thunderbolt port.
The benefits of the monitor are just a bigger screen with more real estate (screen space - there is actually more room for things on the screen, it's not just a stretched version of the MacBook Air screen). It also will charge your MacBook Air when the Air is docked and you are able to use it with your MacBook in 'clamshell' mode which means you can keep the MacBook closed if you have an external mouse/trackpad and keyboard to use.

    No.

  • Can I connect my ps4 to my Thunderbolt Monitor?

Hi all, I was just wondering if there was any way to connect my ps4 to my thunderbolt monitor. I'm getting both of these for christmas, so I want to make sure I'm getting the right stuff. I'm also receiving an Elgato Capture Card, but I think that's irrelevant.
I've done quite a bit of research, and I think it's possible if you use an HDMI to thunderbolt connector, which you can buy on amazon for like 10 bucks.
Overall I just want to know if this could work, using my ps4's hdmi to plug into my Elgato, using another HDMI from the output of the elgato to the adapter and then using that thunderbolt cable to plug into the monitor. If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated!

A Thunderbolt requires a computer with a Thunderbolt port.  It will not work with anything else.  There are no adapters or converters that will help.
The Amazon adapter is for connecting  a computer with a Thunderbolt port to a display with HDMI.  It will not work the other way round.

  • Pegasus RAID Storage with Thunderbolt opinions / backup solutions?

I'm trying to get some opinions about the Pegasus RAID Storage with Thunderbolt
    http://www.promise.com/storage/raid_series.aspx?m=192&region=en-global&rsn1=40&r sn3=47
since I've been researching some info for a friend who is looking for extremely reilable local storage solution for his record label.
Does anyone here use this? If so, do you use it with Time Machine? And also what type of RAID setup did you use?
I was thinking of a RAID 5 setup, since I feel that would be best in the long run should any drives fail, the backed up data would still be available on the other drives even if the performane is a bit slower until the failed drive is replaced. I would like to hear about people's experience with these drives and RAID setups. Also if anyone might want to suggest other disk options, please feel free to mention them here.
This would mostly be for "Setup 1" which is mostly audio production dedicated.
There is also a need for a "Setup 2" which would be mostly business/document dedicated.
Would it be better to get another smaller local back up solution for Setup 2?
We're not too keen on using Time Capsule for Setup 2 as their long term performance does have a great track record.
We're also going to be using Carbonite to have an offsite/remote backup of everything we have locally, but I'm not too familar with their services as well and if anyone here can comment on that I would apprecaite it. I've read up a bit on them and I would think to probably use their Business level service.
Any help, advice, opinions are welcome and appreacaited!
    Thanks!

You can (re-)install to the Pegasus raid and boot from it.
However, you'll actually get a faster system if you use an SSD for the system drive and then just use the Pegasus for data files (and Time Machine backups of the SSD ...).
    In any case:
Be sure to use the Promise Utility (download it from their site) to configure the RAID level etc if you don't want the default RAID 5 configuration.  (For me I prefer RAID 6 if there are more than 4 drives, RAID 1 for 2 drives and RAID 10 for 4 drives – RAID 5 is just too risky; even configured with a spare).
If you use the Pegasus as your system drive, consider using RAID 10 on it.  You'll "only" get 6 TB storage; but it'll be fast and quite safe (much safer than RAID 5).

  • HT2471 MacBook air is not connecting with my Thunderbolt monitor...should be easy fix but i cannot figure out

I have been using my MacBook Air with Thunderbolt monitor for a few months with no problems...  Now I connected my laptop to my monitor and I am not getting a connection.   Please help

It's possible that the W2 you used was set up with the EchoSign service. It allows you to draw a signature with a mouse. This is available as well with more recent versions of Reader (10.1+) if the form isn't Reader-enabled or secured. You will see this in the Sign panel when the document is opened in Reader.
You can otherwise get an EchoSign account and upload your document and send it to your customers through the EchoSign service. You can establish a free account to see how it works.

  • 15"  Retina Macbook Pro connected to a Thunderbolt Monitor

Can I leave the Laptop on when connected to the monitor and allow it to auto sleep or should I be turning the whole thing off?  Will it  shorten battery life?  I disconnect the laptop when I travel of course and turn it off,  but at home, I want it to be at the ready asmy home computer hooked up to the large monitor.  Any caveats?
    Thanks

No caveats - I leave my ATD connected to my late 2011 15" MBP 90% of the time. When I go to sleep, I put the machine and monitor to sleep (I also have it set for 3 hour sleep in case I forget to manually put it to sleep). I have my monitor set to 'sleep' after an hour of inactivity.
Just leave it plugged up and let your machines rest when you do - a small drain of electricity but it's not going to hurt your battery life or anything.

  • When I try to connect a monitor with a thunderbolt to hdmi from the back of my thunderbolt monitor nothing happens. When I plug in the cable directly to my Mac mini it works great... Any idea this isn't working?

Well pretty much the title sums it up, but I'm required to type something here so here is some words. (Please excuse frantically errors since I'm working from my phone).

You can't connect a non-Thunderbolt display or adapter directly to the port on the back of a Thunderbolt display.  It will work if you connect a Thunderbolt disk drive (with two Thunderbolt ports) between the two displays.

  • How to connect an HDMI monitor as 2nd display?

I want to connect an HDMI monitor to my MacBook Pro to use as my second monitor. I need to know what type of cable to use? I use iPhoto and iMovie extensively and it would really help to have a second monitor. Which port on the MacBook would I use?

If your MBpro has a MiniDisplay port or Thunderbolt port then you buy a MiniDisplay port to HDMI adapter and a HDMI cable. (The adapter will plug into the Thunderbolt port).

  • How to connect an external monitor to macbook pro. The monitor has no usb connector without a usb

How to connect an external monitor to macbook pro. The monitor has no usb connecter, only a port.

Most MacBook Pro models have a Mini DVI port, a Mini DisplayPort or a ThunderBolt port for connecting an external display. USB does not have enough bandwidth to support a responsive display connection.
What model MacBook Pro do you have, by year, CPU speed or MacBook Pro 3.1 designation?

  • Daisy-Chain Thunderbolt Monitors

I have been having a lot of issues since purchasing two new thunderbolt displays. I mounted both displays on my office wall via VESA brackets. I was super happy with how they looked and how they were able to Daisy-Chain together making them the most beautiful full function docking station for my MacBook Pro. I hooked up my mac via the single thunderbolt cable and power cord from monitor 1 and turned on my Mac. As expected the two monitors came to life in dazzling fashion giving me 54in of usable space. My issues began after I disconnected my Mac to go to a meeting. When I returned and reconnected the power and thunderbolt cords and after the usual blinking of the monitors only the Mac and monitor number 1 worked. Monitor 2 (the one daisy-chained to number 1) would not turn on, 27in of blackness. I tried reconnecting, changing the order of the displays, rebooting, and even re-imaging; nothing worked. I Googled it and found a lot of issues that people were having with displays and thunderbolt drives but none offered a solution that worked. after a lot of research I was able to piece together what was happening and a fix that actually worked. The issue is the Thunderbolt ports and they way peripherals get assigned. So the first time I connected the monitors they worked great but when I went to a meeting and connected to a projector or went home and connected to my single thunderbolt monitor there the ports would get reconfigured to run the single monitor or projector. Macs use SMC (System Management Controller) to control many low level functions like lights, fans, power button, and ports. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964 Following the SMC reset fixes the port assignment issue and allows the Mac to recognize the daisy-chained monitor or drive. One additional tip is to plug in the power and thunderbolt cable before resetting the SMC. it is a simple keyboard procedure that is easy and works every time. I hoping a firmware update of SMC will make this fix obsolete but until then at least my $2500 display investment is paying off in a lot of beautiful useable space.

Please do not double post - it does not help and things can get very confusing, so I've asked the hosts to remove the duplicate.
    Good luck!

  • How do i connect three external monitors to a macbook pro?

How do I connect three extrenal monitors to my Macbook Pro?

I have a USB to DVI adapter from kensington. I use to use it to power at 14" display.Moving windows around had some tearing and lag. Typing lagged, but it was use-able. It was fine for displaying diffrent stats. The OS treated it as it would any additional display.
But I found it undesirable for any thing tha requires lots dragging and clicking.
Every so often the device would lock up. At witch point the computer would get stuck trying to detect the USB display. I would have to unplug the adapter, cycle the power on the adapter. And then it would be good for a couple more months.
Also some times after a reboot, the adapter would stop working. I would have to unplug it, and login, and then plug it back in.
Coping file to my USB 2 harddrive seemed to cause more lag to the USB to Video Adapter.
