Pegasus R4 vs Synology 412+ or 413?

I've finally narrowed my external RAID 5 storage device down to two options. I'm either going with a Promise Pegasus R4 connected via Thunderbolt or a Synology 412+ or 413 connected via Giagabit Ethernet. Here are my requirements:
Mac compatible
Allows local and remote (via Internet) file access
Time Machine multi device capable (need to backup several Macs and a PC)
Able to use as a web develpment server, or at least capable of running MAMP PRO
Able to stream videos (especially MKV format)
Reliable and well built
Expandable
RAID 5 capable
Energy efficient
Relatively fast
And here's my equipment:
Mac Book Pro 9,1
Two LG IPS235 monitors
Mac Book 6,1
Alienwareware m14x
Time Capsule 2GB (I suppose I could use this for my Time Machine backups, but in order to do so with multiple devices I think I need to run OS X Server)
Mac mini 2.6 GHz (coming soon)
Based on these needs, which device is my best option?

Have you looked at some of these?

  • Library iPhoto on Synology NAS

Every time I open iPhoto when my Mac has been shot down I have too choose the place on my NAS of the library again. How can I change this?

I'm a bit new to all this, so pardon if my question is a big ignorant and perhaps already covered in more technical laguage earlier.  If I understand correctly, the iPhoto Library is basically the "manager" that sorts and indexes the photo images (in my case jpg files).
Based on the earlier discussions, I understand that it is critical that the iPhoto Library live on an iOS device and not be put on the NAS. HOWEVER... why not just maintain a central photo repository on the NAS, while keeping the iPhoto Library on the local Mac devices?
My goal is to have a central photo repository that can be accessed by all the devices in my home, as well uses RAID.  I tested the following scenario this evening, which seemed to work well, but am trying to understand if it will scale for my library of 30,000 images (and growing).
I created a folder on my Synology 412+ called "Photos"
I put about 100 jpg images in the "Photos" folder on the Synology NAS.
I gave access to the "Photos" folder on the NAS to two users:  One called Daniel with R/W access and another called Reggy with Read-only access. (Other than Daniel, I don't want Reggy or other iPhoto users to be able to mess with the actual image locations on the NAS).
On both Daniel and Reggy's Macs, I set up iPhoto so that they would only import thumbnails for reference viewing, but the actual image files remain on the NAS. (Setup: iPhoto > Preferences > Advanced > then un-click "Copy items to Photo Library")
Here is what happened: From both Reggie and Daniel's Macs, I was able to view images using the local iPhoto Library.  Furthermore, I could see all the original photo meta data, make edits to photos and save edits in the local iPhoto Library (without affecting the source image), as well as export full-version photos to the local Macs.
    Seems to work great!
Am I missing something? Is this susceptible to data loss?  Will this scale for my 30,000+ photos?

  • CX_SY_OPEN_SQL_DB Need Help !

    Hi I'm Getting this Dump
    Runtime Errors         DBIF_RSQL_SQL_ERROR
    Exception              CX_SY_OPEN_SQL_DB
    Date and Time          01/25/2008 05:30:05
    Short text
SQL error in the database when accessing a table.
    What can you do?
Note which actions and input led to the error.
For further help in handling the problem, contact your SAP administrator
You can use the ABAP dump analysis transaction ST22 to view and manage
termination messages, in particular for long term reference.
    How to correct the error
Database error text........: "POS(4477) Too complicated SQL statement (too much
    data)"
    Internal call code.........: "[RSQL/OPEN/ZBBP_CONF_VIEW ]"
Please check the entries in the system log (Transaction SM21).
If the error occures in a non-modified SAP program, you may be able to
find an interim solution in an SAP Note.
If you have access to SAP Notes, carry out a search with the following
    keywords:
    "DBIF_RSQL_SQL_ERROR" "CX_SY_OPEN_SQL_DB"
    "SAPLZ3P_CLC_FG01" or "LZ3P_CLC_FG01U01"
    "Z3P_CLC_CONFIRMATION_DETAILS"
If you cannot solve the problem yourself and want to send an error
notification to SAP, include the following information:
    1. The description of the current problem (short dump)
To save the description, choose "System->List->Save->Local File
    (Unconverted)".
    2. Corresponding system log
Display the system log by calling transaction SM21.
Restrict the time interval to 10 minutes before and five minutes
after the short dump. Then choose "System->List->Save->Local File
    (Unconverted)".
    3. If the problem occurs in a problem of your own or a modified SAP
program: The source code of the program
    In the editor, choose "Utilities->More
    Utilities->Upload/Download->Download".
    4. Details about the conditions under which the error occurred or which
actions and input led to the error.
The exception must either be prevented, caught within proedure

  • Problem with tutorial; "Build a Web Application with JDeveloper 11g Using "

I've got a rather new installation of Vista Business x64 on my developer rig, and last week I installed the new JDeveloper 11g version. The installation was all-inclusive, no customization on my end.
In addition I've got a test installation of an Oracle DB 11gR1 on an available server here.
To familiarize myself with the new JDeveloper I decided to spend some time with the JDeveloper 11g tutorials found here: http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe11jdev/11/index.html.
I've started twice on the second tutorial, "Build a Web Application with JDeveloper 11g Using EJB, JPA, and JavaServer Faces", and find myself repeatedly stuck at step 19 in section "Creating the Data Model and Testing it".
It seems impossible to deploy the application to the default application server. The server starts fine on its own, I can access it via the admin console on port 7001 and it looks good. However, when I try to run the HRFacadeBean funny things are happening, symptomized by the following error messages seen in the IDE log-area:
    The "Messages" pane displays:
    "Compiling...

    Done
I'm not that familiar with these things but it seems to me that there is an issue with port numbers here. The application seems to expect a app.server service at port 7101, but does'nt find one.
Any suggestions on how to fix this problem would be appreciated?

    Jupp,
It fails in a similar way.
What I did was; create a simle 'Hello World' html file, saving it with the jsp extension. In Jdev11g i made a new application and an emtpy project, then loaded the jsp file and made it the default run-target. This compiles nicely.
When running the project it first attempts to start the WebLogicServer (WLS). After a few minutes it is started as seen in the "Running: DefaultServer" pane:
    C:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\domains\base_domain\bin\startWebLogic.cmd

    DefaultServer started.
In the "Messages" pane, however, things are not looking so good:
    Context: MakeProjectAndDependenciesCommand application=TestAppJsp.jws project=TestProjJsp.jpr
[7:20:49 PM] Successful compilation: 0 errors, 0 warnings.
[Application TestAppJsp is bound to Server Instance DefaultServer]
    [Starting Server Instance DefaultServer]
    #### Server Instance DefaultServer could not be started: Server Instance was terminated.
But, of course, the server is actually running as I can access it via its Admin Console.
So, I try to run the project again, and this time the following is shown in the "Messages" pane:
    Compiling...
    Context: MakeProjectAndDependenciesCommand application=TestAppJsp.jws project=TestProjJsp.jpr
[7:26:39 PM] Successful compilation: 0 errors, 0 warnings.
[Application TestAppJsp is bound to Server Instance DefaultServer]
    [Starting Server Instance DefaultServer]
    #### Server Instance DefaultServer could not be started: Server Instance was terminated.
The "Running: DefaultServer" now comes up with:
    C:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\domains\base_domain\bin\startWebLogic.cmd
[waiting for the server to complete its initialization...]
[Server Instance DefaultServer is shutting down.  All applications currently running will be terminated and undeployed.]
    Process exited.
The WLS is still running though as I can still access its adm console.
To me it seems that it is attempting to start a separate instance of the WLS for each run attempt, but then I could be wrong.....:(
Later I'll try to change the default WLS port from 7001 to 7101 as suggested in another port here.
I must admit that I'm a bit surprised that the JDev11g doesn't work fine at this very simple level when performing a default install.

  • BVI doesn't show up in multi context ASA

I have an ASA 5585 in transparent mode, multi-context. It seems that the option to configure a BVI in one of the traffic contexts isn't there. In other words, while I see the option to configure a bridge group interface in the admin context, no such option comes up in the traffic context.
    ciscoasa/admin(config)# interface ?
    configure mode commands/options:
      BVI         Bridge-Group Virtual Interface
      Management  Prefix of interface Management0/0
    ciscoasa/admin(config)#
    ciscoasa/admin(config)# changeto context dmz
    ciscoasa/dmz(config)#
    ciscoasa/dmz(config)# interface ?
    configure mode commands/options:
      Port-channel  Prefix of interface Port-channel30.411, 30.412, 30.413, 30.414
    ciscoasa/dmz(config)#
I thought that maybe I need to first allocate BVI interface(s) in the system context (in order to seem them in the traffic context) but that doesn't seem to be an option either.
    ciscoasa/dmz(config)# ch system
    ciscoasa(config)# interface ?
    configure mode commands/options:
      GigabitEthernet     GigabitEthernet IEEE 802.3z
      Management          Management interface
      Port-channel        Ethernet Channel of interfaces
      Redundant           Redundant Interface
      TenGigabitEthernet  Ten GigabitEthernet
      <cr>
    ciscoasa(config)#
Has anyone seen this or know what the issue is? Thanks.

I think I figured it out. It seems that when you create a context, it is created in routed mode by default. So you have to explicitly go in and change it to transparent mode. Then the BVI interface shows up of course.

  • JDeveloper + WebLogic: Problem deploying

    Greetings,
I'm new to Oracle and JDeveloper and I'm developing an application (webservice) that uses Oracle 11g as database. To develop the webservice I'm using JDeveloper Studio Edition Version 11.1.1.0.1 and WebLogic application server.
Everything was running fine until yesterday, when for unknown reasons I could no longer use SQLDeveloper to connect to Oracle database. Searching the web I found a possible solution that consisted in installing a loopback adapter. I did it and it worked, I could connect again using SQLDeveloper and/or JDBC.
The problem is that now I'm not able to deploy applications from JDeveloper into WebLogic.
I'm not sure if this is related to the loopback adapter, but it was the only thing I've changed. It doesn't look like a WebLogic problem because I can start the server outside JDeveloper, access the console (although not from [http://localhost:7001/console,] only if I use [http://127.0.0.1:7101/console] or [http://mycomputername:7101/console]). It indicates that the server is running "OK".
However, if I use JDeveloper to "Test Web Service" (like I used to), it takes a long time for the server to start (3-4 minutes compared to less that 1 minute previously), with the following log:
    C:\oracle\Middleware\jdeveloper\system\system11.1.1.0.31.51.88\DefaultDomain\bin\startWebLogic.cmd

    #### Server Instance DefaultServer could not be started: Server Instance was terminated.
And the webservice tester doesn't show up, probably because the application was never deployed.
Does anyone have any ideas on what might be wrong?
    Thank you in advance,

I tried to fill the "Listen address" property of my server using the console to "localhost" and when I try to test my web service it now goes much faster, but gives me the following error messages:

    #### Cannot run application Application1 due to error deploying to DefaultServer.
[Application Application1 stopped and undeployed from Server Instance DefaultServer]
Also I noticed that JDeveloper wasn't even able to shutdown the server as it couldn't connect to it. With the "Listen address" property set to "localhost" it shuts it down perfectly.

Termination occurred in the ABAP program "/MRSS/SAPLRSG_PM_ORDER" - in
    "/MRSS/RSG_MAINTAIN_MRS".
The main program was "SAPLCOIH ".
In the source code you have the termination point in line 783

  • Query with many or clause

    Hello,
I need to write a query to fetch data using OR clause. Is there a limit as to what is the number of OR conditions which can be present in a Query?
    I am using Oracle 11g.
My question comes from the backdrop of the limit of 1000 items limit in "IN" clause.
Also, if I have a query which has (column1=x1 and column2=y1) or (column1=x2 and column2=y2), is it possible to use IN clause for two columns, i.e something like,
    (column1,column2) IN ((x1,y1),(x2,y2)?
    Thanks
    Vivek

I just ran this query on 11.2.0.3:

  • Slow data transfer rates

I have a MacBook Pro - Retina with an Apple  thunderbolt to gigabit ethernet adaptor which is connected directly to one port of a synology 412+Nas with Cat6 cable. I am experiencing low data rates  when transferring large files (>1GB) usually less than 25Mb/s though sometimes peaking at 100Mb ( fora few seconds) The average rate declines throughout the file transfer. I have noticed that there is a repeated/ self recovering crash which occurs which is co incdent with a dip in the date rates. Having eventually found the crash report its detail is associated with Finder. I am not technically savy enough to interpet the report nor have I been fortunate enough to find the crash reports again!
Has anyone else had this data rate performance issue?

your profile will sort itself out after that period but if you are having disconnection with the hub resetting then there is a more serious noise problem.  Check your phone line by dialling 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone
Are you connected to the master or test socket or somewhere else?  do you have extensions sockets and if so have you removed the orange bellwire from terminal 3 from the master and all the extensions as this can act like an aerial for noise.  http://www.jarviser.co.uk/jarviser/bellwirenutshell.html
there is no point in getting the mods to fix your profile if you have a noise problem as you will be back to square 1 in a few days so better sorting problem first

  • Miss value FI Posting on Sales Order Transfer Posting movement Type 413 E

    Dear Expertise
I've a problem about sales order transfer posting. My both of Sales order (Source & Destination) are make to order and open with configurable material(KMAT). Both of sales order contain only one item on the same material no.
    Assume scenario material vastr
Assume that material vastr is configurable material wait for sales order to fill characteristic and it was maintained standard price value = 1100
Sales order A  has plan cost  on material  VASTR  1000
Sales order B has plan cost material VASTR 980
When we make a sales order transfer posting(Transfer from Sales Order A-> B) by transaction MIGO_TR by use movement type 413 E. It can post a transfer complete. But my problem is when I trace to FI-Document
                    It was post like this
                    Dr. Standard price                         1100
Cr. price for Sales order A(src.)  1000
                    Cr. Cost Variance                          +100
I don't want it to offset with standarad price value. I want it to do like this
Dr. price for Sales order B(Des.)   980
Cr. price for Sales order A(src.)  1000
                    Dr. Cost Variance                           +20
How can I configure it?   I trial to clear standard price by MR21, System can do it . But I don't want to clear it because it impact to other. I want to know. How can I configure system to take both of plan cost of sales order to offset each other please.

  • Some help and questions on Pegasus R6

I am mid switch from a mac pro 2009 to a 2011 ultimate iMac with a thunderbolt display on a BOA II arm, I am looking at storage options, I have specced the SSD and 2TB drive, but I will use more, I have another 3 x3TB Hitachi's in the Mac Pro. I have bought an OWC enclosure to hold two of the drives, probably as JBOD as a backup. I want to buy the Pegasus R6, but need some help on RAID and how I can practically use it. I also have a Synology Ds1511+ and DX510 full of 2TB drives that we use for Media and time machine 9 and 4 TB respectively and growing!!! So I want a separate ultra fast storage for the iMac. I know its overkill for a personal machine but its my only vice!!!!!!
    My questions are:
In Raid 5 then it would appear as one big disk, 9.7TB in the case of the R6?
Can I have individual folders within here, such as iTunes, crashplan backup, download storage?
Can I have two volumes within one R6?
Does anyone know if and when it was full, I could just replace the drives with 3TB drives, is it possible to upgrade them one by one, or do I have to start again?
If I want to backup a thunderbolt volume will it be seen by time machine?
Thanks in advance for any input.

  • Creative Cloud Desktop App Update 1.7.0.413 doesn't install, error code 89

I am running CS6 on Windows 7 x64. The Creative Cloud updater is insisting that I run it's update to version 1.7.0.413, but it fails each time. I had a look at the file ...Temp\AdobeDownload\LBS.log, and found the message "ACC installation failed with status: 89" (full section of the log is below). I also had a look at Troubleshoot install issues with log files | CC but did not see anything there. The updater gives me only the two choices "Install Now" or "Quit", so I am dead in the water.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks, Bruce

  • Is there a way to connect to Synology 212j NAS through router?

Since I upgraded from Mountain Lion 10.8.5 to Mavericks OS X 10.9.1 I cannot connect my Synology 212j NAS via my router.
Diskstation/iMac Works fine when connected directly with ethernet cable. When connected via router with ethernet no connection is possible.
find.synology.com does not find the NAS, the synology assistant finds the NAS, can configure the IP address, but displays "connection failed" at the end of the process.
When wifi is enabled I can share files through finder. At no point am I able to display DSM configuration interface at 192.168.1.XXX:5000.
All firmware up to date, all devices reset and rebooted several times
The router lists the diskstation IP address in devices (in router configuration ui)
    Tried fixed IP and DHCP
    Tried port forwarding all services
MacBook Air with Mountain Lion 10.8.5 connects flawlessly to diskstation.
I think there is a problem with the way the IP addresses are being managed between Mavericks OS X and the router is there a way to work around this?

dont think so but I could be wrong
as it were I didn't like the build in audio so I connected some external logictech 2.1 speakers  but there
are times when I use headset so I bought this one
or any minijack splitter will work too so I have 2 things connected to the headset port works just fine
