I have an older version of photoshop. It is CS2 My computer crashed and I am trying to install it onto my new computer. I do not have the 7.0 version anymore does anyone know how I can install it? Thanks Peggy

    Peggy, I can now say, after several solid weeks of using iWork 08 at work that I really like it a lot, so I wanted to let you know after my initial reactions had been negative and I probably drove you crazy. There are a few shortcomings, but I trying to work around them and most of them are really minor.
    I wonder if you know anything about this one issue, though. I do very large documents and I have lots of tables throughout them that do calculations. I have to frequently update or change numbers so I create the tables in the report itself rather than in number and dragging onto to the document. Since I have to change numbers frequently that would be a nightmare and create lots of room for human error. Hence, doing them in the report. Historically, I did it this way in Word with embedded excel tables in the report itself (there were no external spreadsheets).
    In most tables it works absolutely flawlessly. However, I several tables that are full page with lots of individual calculations where I enter numbers in various fields and they change throughout the table. On those that are nearly a full page it grinds my data entry in those tables to a halt. If I enter a number in a cell it slows to a halt taking 4 or 5 second to enter a few numbers. As a consequence it takes forever just to enter or change numbers or headings, etc. just in those one or two tables- but they're the most important ones to the report. Is there any way to speed this up or do you have any other ideas short of having to do externally in numbers and then dragging into the report. The calculations are not complex- mainly adding, subtracting, multiplying, computing percentage changes, etc. What seems to cause it to grind to nearly a halt is one change of one number changes many of the other numbers, leading to multiple calculations occurring.
    None of this affects the speed in doing things elsewhere in the document or in the small tables, which are just fine.
    Any ideas, fixes, etc.? I could just put these one or two tables in numbers and drag in but I want to see if this can be avoided for the reasons noted.

    You may use Numbers itself as a Desktop Publishing tool.
    I assumes that it will not be faster.
    From my point of view, the problem is in fact a design flaw.
    Pages, Keynote, Numbers make a good job saving in XML format but it was an error to build them using the XML for every tasks.
    This make calculations very long.
    I'm quite sure that sometime, they will be forced to admit that and introduce a more efficient scheme:
    decipher the XML descriptionof the document.
    Work upon an internal efficient format (as they did in AppleWorks for instance)
    encode in XML format to save the document.
    As I already wrote sometimes, when we have floating sheets on an AppleWorks Draw document, the calculations are quickly made. I'm sure that changing the scheme, Numbers, Pages, Keynote would be able to work the same.

  • AppleWorks 6.2.9 still quits - request more help from Peggy and Barry

    Appleworks6 will not launch
    Thanks to Peggy and Barry I am further along in getting AppleWorks 6, release 6.2.9 to work. However, things are still not working.
    Peggy, I took your suggestion from my last post (Feb 18-19)about dragging the AppleWorks 6 application from the AppleWorks 6 folder to the Dock. Now when I click once on the AppleWorks 6 icon, the application just bounces once. The menu at the top of the desktop stays on the Finder menu.
    Let me give you some more information about the iMac setup, because I followed your suggestions about removing Recent Items files. This did not resolve the problem for getting the AppleWorks 6 application to start.
    I have the AppleWorks 6 folder as:
    Mac HD>applications>AppleWorks 6
    In the Appleworks 6 folder
    AppleWorks 6 application

    Does AppleWorks launch if you double-click the icon in the Finder? It may be an OS issue rather than an AppleWorks one. So, the first thing I suggest is repairing permissions using Disk Utility. Then, unless you leave your Mac on 24/7 & not asleep, run a utility to run the UNIX cron routines & clean caches. Try a search on MacUpdate or VersionTracker for maintenance utilities such as OnyX or Yasu.
    Also, make sure your hard drive isn't too full. It depends on how you use your computer, but for most normal users a minimum of 5 gigs free space at all times after installation is recommended. Power users may need more.
    If this still doesn't work, repairing your hard drive with Disk Utility may help. Start up your Mac from the first Panther (10.3.x) install disk. Then, instead of running the installer, go to the Installer menu & choose Disk Utility. Select your hard drive in the left-hand panel & click Repair Disk. When it is done, quit Disk Utility then quit Installer & restart your Mac.
    It certainly won't hurt to delete both of the AppleWorks User Data folders. One is for OS 9/Classic & the other, in your documents folder, is for OS X. Actually, there would be one in each user's documents folder if you have more than one user.

    I don't think a new thread about the booklet is a good idea. Better to keep it all together. I think I was the one to suggest CocoaBooklet in the first place.

  • How do I install all my old programs and data from an old system folder after I have reinstalled the same OSX system after a crash?

    The system is OSX10.5.8 Leopard on a 2009 imac. A new system was installed from the installation disks and the original system saved to a folder.
    I need to use my Adobe programs, rescue my email, i-tunes and iphoto data.  The disk utility indicates that my Time Machine back-up disk is damaged and I don't want to take a risk of having Time Machine erase my hard drive and try to reinstall the exact system existing at the time of the crash.  There was over 650 gb of stored files that I was copying and removing from the drive at the time it crashed. The total size of the original system file is still about 650 Gb.
    I would prefer to go back in Time Machine and only rescue the programs as most of the files have been copied to external hard drives, but I can't access the back-up hard drive from the new version of the Time Machine.  Or by I don't want the Time Mchine to start copying the new operating system which would include all the data in the old system file. Time Machine was working fine at the time of the crash.

    No, the disk was backed up with time machine a few hours prior to the crash.  I was unable to open the computer when I tried to restart it- got a grey screen with the spinning disk- after a few minutes the screen would go black and would reboot continuously, but not load any images or programs. I started the computer from the 10.5.4 installation disks and checked both the time machine external hard drive and the Imac internal drive with the disk utilities. Both showed as damaged --the internal drive and permissions were repaired, but the external drive (time machine back-up)  was damaged and not repairable by disk utilities. I don't believe that the external drive for Time Machine was connected to the computer at the time of the crash as I was copying files to a different hard drive drive. And I was not having any problems with the TM back-up drive prior to the crash.
    I accessed the Imac internal disk by firewire (as a target disk) and copied as many data files as I had room for on my external hard drives available.  And I deleted quite a few files from the imac internal drive (mostly just jpegs, duplicate tifs, etc--nothing that was used by i-photos, i-tunes or the Mail program).
    Then I installed a new OSX10.5.4 system from the installation disk and the old system was moved to a folder on the hard drive.  I previousy had had the option to reinstall the complete system from Time Machine when I connected that drive and booted with the installation disks with the C key depressed.  But it didn't seem like a good option because I was unsure of the condition of that external disk and whether it would be able to reinstall my data correctly, once it had erased my internal hard drive. 
    I'm considering buying some new external hard drives and backing up the present system to time Machine (so I'll still have my old data in the old system folder).  And then I would try using the old Time Machine back-up to try to reinstall the sytem previous to the crash.  That back-up would reinstall about 700gb of data and operating software and programs which sounds like a lengthy back-up.  Since I have never used Time Machine to do a full reinstallation (I've only used it for individual files), I'm reluctant to do anything rash.
    I'm a professional designer (with a deadline) but I can still use my Illustrator and Photoshop by opening them from the old system folder and saving the files to an external drive.  So it's not neccessary to do anything hasty except to delete some of the excess art and document files that were causing the computer to run slowly and the  Adobe programs to crash when I tried to save my work. I have quite a few books on tape in the i-tumes folder which is probably talking up tons of space but I don't where the i-tunes files live.

    I've just strated using Pages '08, and exploring it. But Pages Help and User Guide do not tell me how to insert the file path or filename in the footer, so that it's automatically updated whenever changed. It's not in the Insert menu, and cannot find it in Insert > Function.

    Though that feature is useful isn't found in 10.4.10. The Devon Technologies WordService ReadMe file has the following:

  • No "Save As" in recent Pages Update

    I just updated to Mountain Lion and the most current version of iPages.  I no longer have a "Save As" function/option in my "File" menu.  I go to help and type "Save As" and I get the handy little animated help showing it, but that menu in NO WAY resembles the new menu I now have. So Help does not work because itscalling up the older menu.
    What gives?

    Save As is no longer a part of the OSX preferred scheme, but they brought it back because some users didn't want to take the new path. There are new ways to do whatever you need to do, but as Peggy notes, you don't have to change your ways if you don't want to. Some of the app-specific help files haven't caught up with the new OSX methods. We're caught in a situation where because of hardware and other considerations, there are users in both worlds.

  • Pages '08 is not a Word work alike.

    I don't recall Apple advertising that Pages '08 is a Word clone or that it is intended to replace Word. Why is everyone expecting it to be?

    People, please, let's put this to rest. iWork isn't an office killer, Apple knows it, Apple has no intent of making it into one. As Peggy said, we've hashed and rehashed this for two years or more. My take is unchanged...and I recently talked to an Apple rep who laid it out nicely.
    In many places MS Office is a given in the workflow and nothing less than Office will do for the people who work there. If you do collaborative work with groups of people passing Word documents around - use Word (or GoogleWorks!). If your project manager will be looking over your cost analysis spreadsheet and then pass it on to his manager you better be using the same program - again, probably Excel.
    OTOH there are lots of us who don't work and/or interact in an Office ecology and I happen to be one of them. About 90% of the work I do is passed on to others on paper or through PDF files. I collaberate via wp documents infrequently. In almost all that I do no one can tell or care what I use and that gives me the freedom to choose. iWork gives me the freedom to choose something other than Office.
    Need Office? Sorry, Office or maybe NeoOffice or Google's apps are where you need to go. Don't need Office? Then why put on golashes, a parka, heavy gloves and a ski mask when all you really need is a light jacket.

    I am just curious as to other people's experiences with the ListView
    widget when elements in it are set to be draggable. In particular, I am

    Explorer where a TreeView resides on the left side of the window and a

    ListView, if the current node that was clicked on was a folder, then the

    widget set to be draggable. If they are set to be draggable, then I am
    finding that the DoubleClick event seems to get registered twice along
    with the ObjectDrop event. This is not good because if I double click
    and the current node is a folder, then it will expand this folder in the
    TreeView, display the contents in the ListView, grab the node that is
    now displayed where that node used to be displayed and run the events
    for that as well. What this means, is that if this is a file, then Word
    is just launched and no big deal. Unfortunately, if this happens to be
    another directory, then the previous directory is dropped into this
    current directory and a recursive copy gets performed, giving me one
    heck of a deep directory tree for that folder.
    Has anybody else seen this, or am I the only lucky one to experience.
    If need be, I do have this exported in a .pex file if anybody needs to
    look at it more closely.

  • How do I remove user account with UID=0 (except of root)

    Macbook Pro 13; I have Parallels software and did not realize I needed to upgrade to version 10 before upgrading to OS X Yosemite.  I get an error stating Parallels 10 cannot be installed because there is a user account other than root that has UID=0.  I checked UIDs in Terminal Utilities and there is one other username with UID=0  How do I remove username peggy?

    BobM53, That would be needed regardless of what front end my users log in with, in my case I was looking for them to access the DIT via the DSCC/DCC, which is not possible.  Regardless, thank you for your reply, it is reassuring to know I am headed in the right direction.
    I am now looking towards installing something else like Apache Directory Studio, or some other GUI for users to manage the directory. 
    I will most likely create one or more ACI's to build groups, adding members to those groups as needed; each group being allowed to perform functions such as create users, lockout users, add/modify hosts, etc.
    I will most likely follow the steps outlined in:
    Directory Server Groups, Roles, and CoS - 11g Release 1 (11.1.1.7.0)
    Slightly OT, does anyone have a suitable and similar proven method to "lockdown" root accounts, and who has root access?

  • My Apple ID has been disabled; How do I get it back?

    I feel like "Peggy" on the Visa commercial when I called help support at Apple.  I dont know if it happened during the "iCloud" movement...but I got an automated email stating that I have purchased something and it is awaiting to be downloaded...I checked my iTunes account and a new person with all their contact information was in my iTunes.  I honestly dont think anything fraudulent was happening...just something went wrong.
    I contacted via the email option...I recd an email back a day later and called me "Peggy"...since this is the new person in my account now...several emails later and many mentions that my name was not Peggy...I still was referred to as Peggy...I was getting no where fast.
    I called the Apple help and got nowhere...they stated since I was already being "helped"...they were not able to help...whatever....I emailed my person again...only to be told to I need to create a new apple ID....that my old ID someone already had.....dah!!!!  I still am the owner of the old ID????
    So, I created a new ID...new email address to get into itunes through my laptop....
    Here is the issue...when I log into iTunes through my iPhone...it states my Apple ID has been disabled....my iPad as well.
    Please someone help me.....I want my old ID back since it is mine....I want my old (current) email...back.

  • New iPad Air can't connect to iTunes; device "times out"; no error code given

    my iMac (8 months old) is running 10.8.5 with latest version of iTunes.  When I try to connect my new iPaid Air with a cable, iTunes open, after a few seconds, a windows appears saying "iTunes cannot connect to the device named Peggy's iPad because device timed out".  no error code is given.  I have restarted my computer and the iPad various times and tried different USB ports on the iMac.  I am using the original lightning cable that came with the iPad to connect.  I didn't have this problem with my old iPad 2 or with my iPod touch.  I do not have any security software installed and no firewalls, etc.  Any suggestions on what is causing this problem?  Thanks.

  • Restore new ipad air from iPad 2 backup

    I backed up my ipad 2 to iTunes by USB cable with no problem a month ago.  I bought a new iPad Air and want to restore it from the old iPad backup.  When I connect the new Air by USB to my iMac (late 2012), running 10.8.5, with iTunes open, no device shows up, and a window says that iTunes cannot connect to the device "Peggy's iPad" because the device timed out. The operating system and iTunes version are the same as when I made the backup from my old iPad. What happened?

    If you don't have teh most current version of iTunes, you probably will not be able to sync the iPad Air.
    Also, from the error message you give, it sounds to me like it's trying to sync via wifi and not via the cable, is this how your iTunes is configured for the new iPad Air?  I have no issues syncing my iPad Air to a MacBook Pro running Mavericks (OS X v10.9) using the USB cable, although I did intentionally set mine up as a new device rather than as a restore of my iPad 2 backup...
