Pen drive formatting issue..

hello
sir,
window is unable to complete format..
Pen drive is detecting but when i want to see it's property  it shwo us 0 byte.......... I have tried low level format, diskpart, HP pen drive format tool  but not success ,   HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool replys" Media is write protected.  "
& i have  a 4 gb HP pen drive which is not detecting in my laptop??

Hello Mudsain,
If the pendrive is giving you a write protect warning, it might be fixed using USB Flash Driver Format Tool (Ufix-II).
http://www.pny.com.tw/index.php?cls=2&mode=download
You may need to have 7-Zip installed to extract the .rar file. It is a free download. http://www.7-zip.org/download.html
Your going to extract "RecoverTool_V2.00.42_M1223 8CE.exe" from the downloaded file and run.
You should now be able to reformat the pendrive. IF this does not help, then the pendrive is most likey damaged and nothing more can be done.
If it is new, I would take it back to the store for a replacement or contact HP Support for more options.

Hope it helps.

  • Hard Drive Formatting Issues - 2011 MBP

I have a late 2011 Macbook pro that started acting up a few weeks ago.  Took it to an Apple store for a consultation and they came to the conclusion that part of my hard-drive not functioning properly.  It just so happened to be the portion that had the bootup info on it (according to the tech).  Rather than pay to have Apple install a new drive, I decided to go for it on my own as I've built more than a dozen PC's over the last 3 years, swapping out a hard drive is not a big deal to me.  Even the tech at the store told me I shouldn't have any issues.
So I disconnected the battery, installed the new drive, inserted the disk that came with my MBP and I get nothing but a grey screen after the DVD drive makes noise reading the DVD for several minutes.  I did some searching online and found that I could try to download the disk via holding Command + R at startup (just in case something on the physical DVD wasn't reading properly).  The Command + R function shows me my wifi, connects, and downloads what it needs to, but I once again end up with nothing, but a grey or blue screen.  I've tried two hard drives, both with the DVD and Command + R function several times now to no avail.
Am I missing a step here or could there be something else wrong with my machine?  Are there any other utilities built into the machine I could be running?
I installed a Western Digital 7200 RPM, 500GB drive.  Same specs as my original drive, but different manufacturer.  I researched and found several other reviews of people using this drive in MBP's.
I re-formatted the original drive a few years back with the same DVD and no issues.  I have no backups or other drives to go off of.  I was running Windows 7 through boot-camp.  Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your suggestions.   It is definitely not a dirty disk, damaged disk, or the optical drive.  If the optical drive or disk had anything to do with the issue at hand, a remote recovery from Apple's servers (Command +R) would have worked (failed several times - it connects to Apple's servers and downloads the recovery, but screen goes blue or grey the same as it does with the DVD, after the download completes and when recovery tries to initialize).
Like I said in my last post (that was edited by the mods, probably bc I linked the class action site).  The issue here is a failed GPU on the Logic Card.  Genius got it wrong here when I went to the store.  If I felt like wasting any more of my time and money I'd take the scrapheap to the store and let them put in a new hard drive and pay their labor to then be told after the fact that I need a new logic board.
After reading the other thread (Macbook Pro (15" early 2011) horizontal lines on screen and not booting...?) - and reading ALL PAGES, I'm certain the hard drive was never the issue here.  The thread I linked explains several others having the same symptoms my laptop started with (the screen jumping around and lines on the screen) before complete failure of the system.  Several others in that thread have had the same problems trying to reformat as I am having.  The symptoms and results are all the same.  There is a class action lawsuit ongoing for this issue as there have been many hardware failures on these GPUs from this model year.  The Hardware checks I'm running and the ones Genius ran simply didn't pick up on the issue.  Others in that thread have even had replacements fail and the replacements only carry a 90 day warranty.  At this point, it's a 3 year old machine that needs a new logic board, and a new battery, not a worthwhile investment of $300-$500 in my opinion.
    Thanks again for your help.

  • Hard drive format issues

So the 250GB hard drive in my MBP (OSX 10.7.something) blew up a few days ago, and I ordered a new 1TB Toshiba SATA drive to replace it. I was planning on using a Time Machine backup to restore my new drive, but I'm stuck on the formatting process.
    Here's what I've done:
    Installed new drive (correctly)
    Launch Mac
    Run Disk Utility
    Select 1TB Drive
    Click "Partition"
    Select 1 Partition of 1TB
    Options > GUID
Format > Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    Click Apply
    Here's the problem:
Progress bar gets stuck at about halfway and says "Waiting for disks to reappear".
I waited several hours, but I was forced to abort the process.
Now it's claiming that my drive is only 137GB and still will not format (keeps getting stuck at "Waiting for disks to reappear").
I've been looking up solutions for the past day, but nothing is working. Is there a fix for this? I would have just used CarbonCopy, but my old drive died.

Either the drive is faulty, or it wasn't installed correctly, or you have some other hardware fault such as a damaged SATA ribbon cable.

  • Moving LR2 from Windows to Mac; drive formatting issue...

Over the past year I have gradually switched from Windows OS to Mac OS and Lightroom is one of the last to migrate.
I have a 22+K image library (both images and movies) with a deep directory structure accumulated over many years, currently on a Windows NTFS formated drive.  I moved the LR catalog to the Mac without problems and it now has no problem "seeing" the images on the Windows drive, HOWEVR, since this is a NTFS formatted drive I can only read and not write to the drive and thus I need to move the library to either a FAT32 Windows drive or (better) to a native Mac OS drive.
The problem I am running into is that if I move/copy the images outside of LR, the software cannot "see" the images on the new Mac OS formatted drive.  Moving the library from within LR does not work because when LR tries to erase the images from the Widows drive it returns an error and stops the process.  Exporting the image catalog seems to export the images and not the movies that are scattered through the folders and thus creates a file managing headache.  I have read extensively through tutorials, support pages and discussion forums and cannot find a discussion of my specific problem.  Am I missing something?  Any suggestions?

Thank you for both suggestions!  I am not quite sure what to make of this...  I had tried what Jao vdL suggested before and it didn't work.  Upon trying to find the files on the Mac-formated drive I usually get the message:"Lightroom has encountered problems reading this photo.  You will not be able to make adjustments to the photo"  At the time my understanding was that the problem arises from the different ways that both formats handle individual files.
Just in case, I tried the whole process again last night and got the same error message but then I left the computer running overnight and this morning everything seems to be fine.  As far as I can tell the library and catalog are intact and LR is behaving normallly.  Strange!  Regardless what the reasons behind all this are, it worked so... thank you!

  • USB Flash Drive Formatting Issue

    Hi,
I formatted my 16 gig PNY flash drive using OSX to MS-DOS (FAT). So one would think I'd be able to use it with my PC as well. Well, I can't. It's telling me the drive isn't formatted when I plug it into the PC, and when I do format it, I get a measly 200 megabytes. That's it. Am I missing something here? I'm about to snap the flash drive in half. Thanks!
    BB

Most likely you did not partition the drive properly. Do the following:
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your flash drive (the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to MBR then click on the OK button. Set the format type to MS-DOS. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.

  • Pen drive will not appear or format on iMac

    Hi
I have a 16gb hp pen drive and i used it with my imac one day then the next it will not appear unless viewed in the disk utility, even then it is greyed out. I need to format it as it has information i need to delete off it, but when i choose erase it comes up with the following error message. "POSIX reports: The operation couldn’t be completed. Cannot allocate memory"
Any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you

I know this may be presumptuous of me, but have you tried plugging it in to other ports and or rebooting? Also, try using the First Aid of Disk Utility to repair and or verifying it.
I think there is some issue with Snow Leopard and USB drives. I have a 32 GB USB drive that will not be recognized on my powered USB hub, but will be recognized when plugged directly into my iMac. Yet, that same USB drive will be recognized while plugged into the powered USB hub by Windows 7 while running in virtualization mode.

  • I have Sony 4GB pen drive USM4GM, I formatted it on Win XP and after that it says write protected

I have Sony 4GB pen drive USM4GM, I formatted it on Win XP. whenever I try to access it, it asks to format again. when I click on the format buttom it says write protected. What is the solution for it

    Hi devinderdalal.
Try performing all the steps mentioned below to troubleshoot the issue:
Open Start Menu > Run, type regedit and press Enter. This will open the registry editor.
    Navigate to the following path:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies
Double click the key "WriteProtect" in the right pane and set the value to 0.
In the Data Value Box, press OK.
Exit Registry, restart your computer and then re-connect your USB pen drive to your computer.
If my post answers your question, please mark it as an "Accepted Solution."

  • Pen drive write protected - Unable to format

I have a usb pen drive mounted. I cannot create any folder or delete any file. It says read only mode.
I also tried to formate it using the gparted tool, it says partition read only
I tried dd command it also says partition is read only file system
    sudo dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdb1
    Even dmesg gives some errors

From windows side they have a tool called "HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool SP27608" which does. I dont want to shift to windows for this reason.except that i got a link for a windows software

    Install NTFS 3G
    http://macntfs-3g.blogspot.com/
If you were going to be reading and writing to a NTFS System Partition, you might have to worry about the instability messing up the operating system.  However, you are reading/writing from a non system, backup device so you don't have to worry about screwing up an operating system.
I would still temporarily move my data to another device and reformat the drive for Mac OS X Extended.

  • Unable to Format HP 16GB v239 Pen Drive

    Sir,
We have HP 16GB v239 Pen Drive which storage limit is  15.02GB but while formatting the device storage shows on only 302MB limit for NTFS.....
Now I surprised for storage an error so we could not have format it to back to its original capacity storage(15.02GB)....
    Please guide me

It's a flaw in how DU reports the free space when the device is freshly formatted. If you select the Desktop icon and press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window you will see that the full 15.7 GBs is reported as free.

  • Formatting a pen drive

    Hi,
Ive recently seen the light & gone completely Mac
    I have a question though..........
I have noticed that my pen drives/memory cards & hard drives are filling up even when
I delete everything on them they still show as full & cant take anymore files.
If I right click there isnt an option to format as in windows (sorry for swearing)
I,m sure somebody knows what I,m doing wrong BUT..... if I do format it on
my mac will I still be able to use it on a pc?
    Many thanks,
    Jeff

The reason they show full while appearing empty may be because you are not emptying your Trash. If you just drag stuff to the Trash from the drive, the file will no longer appear on the drive in Finder, but the file is still there (taking up the space) until you empty the Trash. This is true, even if you disconnect the drive and later connect it. Once you empty the Trash, the space used by those files will be freed up.
On a Mac, you reformat drives using Disk Utility. It is in the folder Applications/Utilities/. This is a very useful application, so you might want to add it to your Dock.
Anyways, connect the drive. Run Disk Utility. The drive should appear in the sidebar; select it. Go to the Erase tab. If you want to be able to use it on a PC or Mac, the only choice for Volume Format is +MS-DOS (FAT)+ (aka "FAT32"). The native Volume Format for Macs is +Mac OS Extended (Journaled)+ (aka "HFS+"), but Windows cannot use that format. Mac OS X can read and write to FAT32.

  • Pen drive issues

I have downloaded some files from my Dell desktop to a pen drive and have been unable to import them to my Mac. I cannot seem to get them to copy. I can click all but when I press copy it does nothing. If I drag and drop they are accessible until I remove the pen drive. I am new to Mac and am lost. What am I doing wrong?

If you hold down the option key while dragging, that should duplicate the files on your Mac.

  • Pen drive usb transcend crazy over arch linux

The model in question is a pen drive 4Gb Transcend JetFlash V33 that when I enter the port usb notebook with arch Linux not mount automatically (which have done all pen drive I used up to now, friends, colleagues, etc. ...). With gparted (from arch linux) tells me that the pen drive has a space-512mb (unless, that is negative) and space is not allocated (not formatted). Impossible mount from terminal, I type a message from the beginning that the size of the device can not be found after its end (and we believe with a capacity of -512). I gave the pen drive to a friend with windows Xp, where it is regularly recognized (4 gb, FAT 32). Even with the live CD systemrescueCD is regularly recognized and I move into pen a text file above (to test) after mounted it using the terminal. The text file was also seen in windows Xp. I didn't experiment with other Linux distributions. Someone knows that cabbage can be. Sorry for my bad english. Thank you.

It is definitely able to recognize the USB and DVDs as separate drives; it gives the option of booting from USB, and it gives the memory capacity of the USB drive I used as a live USB, and the memory used for the live CD.  But when it comes time to actually boot, something is going wrong.
I would suspect it is a problem with the BIOS, if not for the fact that I had a similar issue on my previous system, which used a completely different motherboard.  If it is the same issue, it would either have to be a problem with the DVD drive (although I don't know why it would be against loading some live CDs but not others) or perhaps the way I created the live CDs.  Although, again, I don't understand why the Linux Mint 32-bit DVD would work fine, while both 64-bit DVDs would not.
I will try using a different DVD drive to boot the DVDs, and if that does not work, I'll try creating a new Arch live CD to see if I can resolve the issue.  But if anyone has any ideas, it would still be greatly appreciated.

  • Input/Output error on Flash pen drive... damaged?

    Hi There,
I am hoping that someone will help me here with my long last problem. I got 32gig flash/pen drive and for some reason I can’t access it anymore. I have done some research on web and I couldn’t find any solution for my problem.
Basically I just need someone to tell me if this external drive is ready to go to bin. Or is there any other option to fix it.
After flash drive insertion I am getting following error:
So I am going to disc utility to fix it:
    Then trying to format it:
    …and that’s the error which I get:
I have tried to use Disc Utility from Installation discs but with the same effect. Tried to format on windows with no luck there neither. I am just stuck so please if someone will tell me what to do next.
    Thanks in Advance

Just use Disk Utility to erase and reformat the drive. If there's nothing on there that does not exist somewhere else, there is no need to spend money on DW, though it is a worthwhile tool to have around.
If the erase and reformat does not work, you are looking at a hardware issue. Purchase a new drive.
    Good luck.
