Pen drive issues

I have downloaded some files from my Dell desktop to a pen drive and have been unable to import them to my Mac. I cannot seem to get them to copy. I can click all but when I press copy it does nothing. If I drag and drop they are accessible until I remove the pen drive. I am new to Mac and am lost. What am I doing wrong?

If you hold down the option key while dragging, that should duplicate the files on your Mac.

  • Pen drive issue of mac and windows????

I've a SonyClick 8GB pendrive and i formatted the pendrive in my MacBook using FAT partition but when i connect it to the Windows 7 PC, it is not able to open the partition it directly says to format it....
And on Windows 7's disk management it shows 2 partition one of File Type - GBPT Protective and the another one file type is - RAW ...i don't get it, i formatted it using FAT still it shows RAW as a file type And what is GBPT Protective ???

You formatted the partition as FAT, but what Windows is complaining about is the partition table itself. Most Windows systems have a BIOS that supports a single partition layout scheme: MBR. OS X (and, actually Linux too) understands several partition layout schemes, but GUID-based partition tables (GBPT) have been the default under OS X for some time.
On EFI-based Windows servers, a disk with a FAT partition and GBPT partition layout ought to be readable. Chances are pretty good, though, that you don't have an EFI-equipped Windows system.
In OS X, you can specify the partition type using the Erase function in disk utility. Erase the disk, and select the MBR partition type. Then create your FAT partition. It should be readable on just about anything.

  • Pen drive formatting issue..

    hello
    sir,
window is unable to complete format..
Pen drive is detecting but when i want to see it's property  it shwo us 0 byte.......... I have tried low level format, diskpart, HP pen drive format tool  but not success ,   HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool replys" Media is write protected.  "
& i have  a 4 gb HP pen drive which is not detecting in my laptop??

    Hello Mudsain,
If the pendrive is giving you a write protect warning, it might be fixed using USB Flash Driver Format Tool (Ufix-II).
    http://www.pny.com.tw/index.php?cls=2&mode=download
You may need to have 7-Zip installed to extract the .rar file. It is a free download. http://www.7-zip.org/download.html
Your going to extract "RecoverTool_V2.00.42_M1223 8CE.exe" from the downloaded file and run.
You should now be able to reformat the pendrive. IF this does not help, then the pendrive is most likey damaged and nothing more can be done.
If it is new, I would take it back to the store for a replacement or contact HP Support for more options.

    Hope it helps.

  • Pen drive usb transcend crazy over arch linux

The model in question is a pen drive 4Gb Transcend JetFlash V33 that when I enter the port usb notebook with arch Linux not mount automatically (which have done all pen drive I used up to now, friends, colleagues, etc. ...). With gparted (from arch linux) tells me that the pen drive has a space-512mb (unless, that is negative) and space is not allocated (not formatted). Impossible mount from terminal, I type a message from the beginning that the size of the device can not be found after its end (and we believe with a capacity of -512). I gave the pen drive to a friend with windows Xp, where it is regularly recognized (4 gb, FAT 32). Even with the live CD systemrescueCD is regularly recognized and I move into pen a text file above (to test) after mounted it using the terminal. The text file was also seen in windows Xp. I didn't experiment with other Linux distributions. Someone knows that cabbage can be. Sorry for my bad english. Thank you.

It is definitely able to recognize the USB and DVDs as separate drives; it gives the option of booting from USB, and it gives the memory capacity of the USB drive I used as a live USB, and the memory used for the live CD.  But when it comes time to actually boot, something is going wrong.
I would suspect it is a problem with the BIOS, if not for the fact that I had a similar issue on my previous system, which used a completely different motherboard.  If it is the same issue, it would either have to be a problem with the DVD drive (although I don't know why it would be against loading some live CDs but not others) or perhaps the way I created the live CDs.  Although, again, I don't understand why the Linux Mint 32-bit DVD would work fine, while both 64-bit DVDs would not.
I will try using a different DVD drive to boot the DVDs, and if that does not work, I'll try creating a new Arch live CD to see if I can resolve the issue.  But if anyone has any ideas, it would still be greatly appreciated.

  • Pen drive icon doesn't disappear

    Hi there,
I renamed a pen drive icon on desktop from "NO NAME" to another name by holding the mouse arrow on its name. Since then I cannot eject it.
I removed the pen drive and the icon is still there. Getting its info I see in the icon image area the rotating star looking for something continuously.
The icon is not listed in the finder.
    How can I remove it?

Sorry, I wrote the last message in a bit of a rush.
I had the same issue when I used MFE in that
I'd receive an email - resulting in the new messages icon.
I'd read the message on my remote system (and the read status would get synced to the phone), after which I could not get rid of the new message icon
In order to get rid of the icon you need to read an unread message, so my work around was to mark any message as unread (using the phone), then immediately read it, which cleared the icon.
It's been a while since I used MfE to I'm not sure what would happen if you also deleted the emails using outlook so that there were no messages at all in the inbox.

  • Input/Output error on Flash pen drive... damaged?

    Hi There,
I am hoping that someone will help me here with my long last problem. I got 32gig flash/pen drive and for some reason I can’t access it anymore. I have done some research on web and I couldn’t find any solution for my problem.
Basically I just need someone to tell me if this external drive is ready to go to bin. Or is there any other option to fix it.
After flash drive insertion I am getting following error:
So I am going to disc utility to fix it:
    Then trying to format it:
    …and that’s the error which I get:
I have tried to use Disc Utility from Installation discs but with the same effect. Tried to format on windows with no luck there neither. I am just stuck so please if someone will tell me what to do next.
    Thanks in Advance

Just use Disk Utility to erase and reformat the drive. If there's nothing on there that does not exist somewhere else, there is no need to spend money on DW, though it is a worthwhile tool to have around.
If the erase and reformat does not work, you are looking at a hardware issue. Purchase a new drive.
    Good luck.

  • I connect my pendrive to macbook pro but it cannot detect and my important data is there in my pen drive so how can i collect this data from my pendrive?

i connect my externalpendrive to macbook pro but it cannot detect and my important data is there in my pen drive so how can i collect this data from my pendrive?

make sure that in your finder preferences you have it checked to show external drives on the desktop and in the sidebar of finder
you find these preferences by selecting the finder icon (blue square on the dock w/ smiley face on it) then click on the work "finder" at top left corner of computer screen then click on preferences then general and put check next to show these items on the desktop and put check next to external drives
now you should see it on the desktop if you still can't open the drive or access it, it may be in format the mac can't read or write to so that could be an issue.

  • Pen drive not able to recognize "only" on my macbook pro osx 10.7.3

    Hi Everyone,
I feel as i feel i have an unique problem and cant quite understand why. I have an early 2011 macbook pro 2.3 ghz i5 processor. I have recently bought an HP v-250 W 16GB pen drive. Its formated in FAT32 and works on every other PC and MAC except for mine. My compute is unable to recongnize it and it doesnt show up in Disk Utility either. Im not sure why this is the case. Can it be because of the software version at 10.7.3. Your feedback will be most helpful. thanks

That is quite strange, I did have a similar issue with Western Digital 1.5TB External HDD a while ago. It worked on other computers just fine but not on my Mac, one day it just stopped working all together.
I am not saying that its an issue with the pen drive though. Could be either or.
The only thing that I can think of trying is to start up in Safe Mode and see if it works. If not then you can at least rule out any applications causing problems.
Let me know how you go. I will have a bit of a look in to this for you as well... I'm curious... And a little confused myself

  • To detect if pen drive is connected or not in labview

i want to detect if pen drive is connected or not using labview

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi
One simple method you can use to list out the folders of your computer.
If any USB Pendrive is connected with your computer you will get the Pen Drive Name.
First get all number of drives. Make constant this value if next time with your pendrive you get the number of element is more then the fixed one then you can say external device is connected with PC.
May be this is not the standard method to detect the device, but it can solve your issue.

  • Mount failed for usb3.0 pen drive on MBP Retina

I have 32GB pen drive, trying to connect it to MBP Retina.
OS version is the newest one.
Pendrive works great with Windows 7 and WD HD Live.
Tried to format pendrive with all available file systems (from Fat32, exFat, MacOS Extended) - and format works OK.
DiskUtility see the pendrive without any issues, but can not mount.
    Following error appears:
    - the disk could not be mounted. Try running First Aid on the disk and the retry mounting.
Verify Disk and Repair Disk completes without issues, but pendrive is still can not be mount.

I was having this problem with the exact same USB drive (Lexar USB 3.0 32GB) and an early 2011 Macbook pro. I tried EVERYTHING to make it work: most of the things you did including resetting the PRAM and the SMC and tried every kind of formatting (Mac Journaled, exFat, Fat32....), I tried every port on my laptop, I cleaned the contacts.... nothing worked. It was working on a friend's newer Macbook, and on my roommate's brand new windows desktop. However, on my computer It wasn't showing up in Finder or in Disk Utility no matter what I did.
I then read this comment on another forum: "Likely the problem is the USB 3.0 plug going into a USB 2.0 socket. Move it back and forth a bit and it should connect. For me this works every time."
And it works. I just have to move the USB drive slightly away from my screen and presto. I am not sure how great this is for the USB port itself but I have decided to sacrifice one USB port to using my thumb drive because I need it every day.
I too spent hours trying to resolve this and this was the solution, and it's been working for months.

  • My iBook doesn't show the hidden files on my pen drive

    Hi there,
I have a 1 Gb Kingston pen drive to transfer files from/to my work PC (which is a Windows PC).
The pen drive works seamlessly on the Windows PC. But when using it on Mac iBook G4 it always leaves some "markers" of the files used like "._trash". These are not very big, but I wonder:
    1) Why does Mac create those apparently useless files?
    2) Why can I only see those apparently useless files on Windows PCs but not on Mac? (i.e. if I didn't have to regularly use a Windows PC my pen drive would get filled up with useless information without me even knowing)
    3) Why can I add or alter files from Mac to pen drive, but I cannot simply delete files on the pen drive using my Mac (again, I need to retort to my olde Windows PC to do such a "basic" operation).
I always press the eject button before unplugging my pen drive.
I always find annoying that external devices that work just fine and as expected on Windows PCs create endless problems and issues when connected to Mac (have similar issues with my Sony digital camera).
Thank you for your help and time
    Marco

    Hello Soave
    Hope to answer some Qs.
    1) The files aren't useless to OS X. Please follow this link to read more.
    2) Mac OS X is based around Unix. In Unix, the convention to hide files is to prefix a full-stop. Windows does not recognise this as a hidden file and hence will simply show them with the preceding full-stop.
    3) I can't answer this one as I can see no reason why you should be allowed to alter them but not delete them. It's obvious you have write access to them. I use a thumb drive on my Mac and I have no such problems.
I haven't personally used it, but this program might be of use to you.

  • ITunes and Pen Drive

on a windows xp home pc, somehow an iTunes folder was created ( drive j ) how itunes will not start unless that pen drive is in, i have uninstalled and reinsatlled ( reinstalling itunes still wanted then pen drive in!!!! HUH ).
So i uninstalled again, gone into regedit and removed as many references of drive j that related to itunes, and STILL itunes will not start without the pen drive, i have told itunes to look at drive k ( K:/my music/itunes ) drive k being a 300gb maxtor external drive, and still itunes wants the pen drive ( drive j ) present before it starts... otherthan formatting and reinsatlling windows xp, what else can i do... also click RESET in iTunes->Edit->Advanced and it resets to Drive J ( j:/my musiuc/itunes ) stumped, must be something still lurking in system reg, just can not see it, any ideas????
    Thanks

When re-installing iTunes we get the error message "Invaild Drive J: " ( or something similar ).
yeah, you've got a drive letter confusion going on, as per this MS article:
New drive or mapped network drive not available in Windows Explorer
what is happening: when the pen drive is unplugged, the drive letters change on your system. when that happens, your registry is looking for the "My Music" folder on the wrong drive (or in some cases the My Music folder has ended up on the removable drive, and isn't there to find when the drive is removed.)
ditto with the installation issue. when the pen drive is out, the registry is looking for the program files on the wrong drive ... and folks get either the 1327 you're getting:
    Error 1327 Invalid Drive
    ... or a 1324, or most commonly a 1325.
the easiest way to fix this.
first, with the pen drive plugged in, launch your Disk Management. right-click "My Computer", select "Manage", click "Disk Management".
make a note of the drive letter that is showing for the drive that has your "My Music" folder on it, and make a note of the drive letter of the drive that has your itunes program files on it.
now close out of Disk Management, unplug the pen drive, and launch Disk Management again. change the letter of the drive that has your My Music folder on it to what it was when the pen drive was in. change the drive letter of the drive with the itunes program files to the what it was when the pen drive was in.
there's instructions on how to change drive letters in this document:
Windows confuses iPod with network drive or hard drive and may keep iPod from mounting or songs may seem to disappear
(although that article is on changing ipod drive letters, the same techniques apply to other drives.)
now try launching iTunes with the pen drive out. does it launch now?

  • Pen drive will not appear or format on iMac

    Hi
I have a 16gb hp pen drive and i used it with my imac one day then the next it will not appear unless viewed in the disk utility, even then it is greyed out. I need to format it as it has information i need to delete off it, but when i choose erase it comes up with the following error message. "POSIX reports: The operation couldn’t be completed. Cannot allocate memory"
Any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you

I know this may be presumptuous of me, but have you tried plugging it in to other ports and or rebooting? Also, try using the First Aid of Disk Utility to repair and or verifying it.
I think there is some issue with Snow Leopard and USB drives. I have a 32 GB USB drive that will not be recognized on my powered USB hub, but will be recognized when plugged directly into my iMac. Yet, that same USB drive will be recognized while plugged into the powered USB hub by Windows 7 while running in virtualization mode.
