Pen tool and eyedropper pointer circle

My pen tool used to have arrow pointer and now it is just a circle.  Same for eyedropper.
I must have clicked on something. How do i reverse this?

Is caps-lock on?
What are your Photoshop > Preferences > Cursors setting?
You can always try restoring preferences (preferably after after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved).

  • Pen Tool, add new point keeps previous point selected?

This has bugged me immensely ever since the new versions of inDesign adopted this habit, is there a work-around?
Say I want to make a customly shaped frame around a photo that's imported in the standard rectangle shape and I don't want it to be a circle, rounded rectangle, or polygon that I can simply "convert shape" to. I could try editing the path with the pencil tool but typically that will create 100+ anchor points of vector disaster.
What I used to do in CS2, CS3, CS4 is grab the handy pen tool, add a point  and  move it where I want with the direct selection tool by simply holding CMD (ctrl).
But now, (not sure if it started in CS5, CS5.5, or CS6) when I add a new point it keeps the previous points selected. Rubbish, now I can't move the new point where I want it without moving the previous however many I created. And there's no simple 1-click method of only selecting the point I just made (that I know of). Re-clicking with the direct selection tool does nothing and clicking other selected points does not deselect them.
So in order to move the point I just made, by itself, I have to deselect all points then reselect the point I want to move, which is really tricky if it's under other objects.
Does anyone know how to have ONLY the new point selected when I add a point? Or even have no points selected so I can easily CMD+click the ones I want to move?

It looks like what is needed is some way to deselect all the points on a selected object, while keeping the object itself selected.
Using the built-in InDesign tools, the way to do that would seem to be: switch to the direct selection white arrow tool (by pressing CMD) as you have been doing. Click anywhere on the path of the object. This clears all selected points while keeping the object selected. Now release CMD to get back to the Pen tool, and add your point.
If this is too fiddly (it can be tricky to click on the path itself, although the white arrow changes subtely to show you that you're over the path), you can alternatively use the following one line script:
    try {app.selection[0].select()}catch(_){};
This does the same thing: It deselects all selected points on the current page item.
To use, copy this line to a text editor. Save with the extension .jsx and place in your InDesign scripts folder. You can then assign a keyboard shortcut to the script, so that it should be very easy to deselect all the points.

  • How do I switch to "Add Anchor Point Tool" and "Convert Point Tool" with shortcuts? (CS6)(Windows 7)

I would like to know if there’re shortcuts to switch to" Add Anchor Point Tool" and "Convert Point Tool" on Photoshop CS6 while using a Windows 7 PC.
    Thank you for your time!!

What I usually do is use the pen tool. Clicking anywhere on the path adds points, clicking on a point removes it and holding down the alt key while over a point is the convert point tool. Ctrl key is the direct selection tool and ctrl+alt key while dragging the object duplicates it.

  • Does photoshop elements 13 have the pen tool and where is it?

Does Photoshop Elements 13 have the pen tool and if so where is it?

I don't understand what you mean about the white line, but many tools in PSE are actually groups of tools. The blur tool shares a slot with the sharpen tool and the Smudge tool. Click hold on the one that's visible for a popout menu, or keep tapping the R key till the blur tool comes into view.

  • Pen Tool and Pathfinder Problems

Help.....I am trying to follow a tutorial creating a leaf vector image(first time) I use the pen tool to draw the curve in a an elipse shape and then divide in pathfinder but it always adds an extra line when I hit the pathfinder button from the last pointto the first and fills my path instead of remaining as one line that I can remove from the shape...anyone help please.

This is a link to the tutorial....http://vector.tutsplus.com/tutorials/text-effects/creating-an-environmentally-friendly-gre en-type-treatment/comment-page-5/
It is part 3, divide.  The image shows what happens after I hit divide in pathfinder, prior to that it is just a single line path with 2 anchor points using pen tool from left to right.  I know its basic but its frustrating as helland I am sure its a simple fix!. Thanks so much for looking

  • How do I fix my Pen Tool/Delete Anchor Point Tool in Illustrator?

Problem One - I'm trying to change the form of my shape, and all of a sudden my Delete Anchor Point Tool isn't working. I'm clicking (and zoomed in A LOT) and it's not clicking on or deleting any of my anchor points.
Problem Two - I'm not sure if it's just the slow speed of my work computer, but I'm trying to trace a shape in a photo that I have locked in the background, and when I click my pen tool it makes the point like 2 to 5 pixels away from where I'm clicking, so I can't precisely trace the shape that I would like to.
Any tips and help on this ASAP would be great! Getting stuck like this is throwing off my productivity and it's very frustrating!
    Thank you!

The problem was Google Chrome browser!  As soon as I quit Chrome my pen tool started working again.  I didn't even need to restart Fireworks.  I wonder if it is a conflict with one of my plugins/add ons.  Most likely.
UPDATE - I did narrow it down to one specific Google Chrome extension.  It was "Google Play Music"

  • Pen tool automatically adding points

I recently got a new computer and reloaded all of the Adobe software (CC).
Here is the issue: When I am using the pen tool, I will try to put a point in place and pull out the curve handles. <click and drag, then release mouse button>  But if I hold the mouse button down for more than just a second, it will act as if I've let the mouse button go and have depressed the button again.  I want to put down one point and drag the curve to where I want it but it has placed that point, dragged it part way, placed another point and I'm now dragging THAT point's curve handle.  It really messes up the shape.
Also, when I am trying to create the lines, the guide line is seemingly trying to snap to some kind of grid.
I want to be able to place my points and drag the curves where I want them and also, I am really not a fan of ANY snap to functions.  I would like them all gone.  Can anyone help me solve these?

CHeck your mouse. Check if a different moseu works better.
For all the snap functions, take a look at
    - the View menu
    - the Preferences for Pen and Anchor point
    - the preferences for smart guides
    - smart guides themselves
Also you might want to check "Align to pixel grid"
All of these functions and options are documented well in the manual and in these forums. Just use your favorite search engine.

  • Pen tool and masking in cs6.

In previous versions I could create a custom (vector) mask using the pen tool in 2 easy steps.
Draw a shape then drag that shape to the image i wanted the mask on. Done.
This "feature" has been removed from CS6 and its extremely annoying. Or has it just become a lot more complicated to achieve this?
I know i can create a clipping mask using the shape layer but that requires another visible layer in the layers panel. Having "roto'd" 50 elements in previous versions in the same workspace gave me 50 layers (cleaning up the solid black shapelayers after). In CS6 it gives me 100 layers.
I know i can select the shape as a selection and then apply a mask but that would make the mask a solid. I want to be able to move my tangents around etc. 100% non-destructively.
I work 100% non destructive and yes, my psd's become very large but thats no biggie, my computer can handle it. I don't want to rasterize.
If you have CS5.5 or earlier versions, create a shape and drag that shape to the layer you want to mask, remove the fill layer and you'll see what i mean. Thats what i want to be able to do in CS6.
Is this 100% gone from CS6?

You are being affected by an almighty f**kup by the Photoshop CS6 User Interface designers.
With CS6, Adobe try to pretend that Shape Layers are a wonderful new type of layer. The reality is that they are the old type Fill Layer with Vector Mask and the addition of a stroke attribute. There are numerous workflow disruptions caused by the "new Shape Layer" pretense.
Here's how to get the functionality to which you are accustomed...
The VM of a Shape Layer is only displayed in the Layers panel when the VM is disabled. To disable it, shift-click its "Shape Path" thumbnail in Properties panel. (You can record an Action of shift-clicking that thumbnail to create your own Disable Vector Mask command which can be run when the Properties panel is closed.) The revealed VM can now be dragged to another layer in the Layers panel.
By the way, you can draw a path and directly create a Vector Mask for a regular pixel layer without making a Shape first. Draw the path with the Pen Tool or with a shape tool set to "Path" mode in its options bar, then Cmd/Ctrl-click the Add Mask button at bottom of Layers Panel when the pixel layer is targeted.

  • Diagonal Jagged Pixelation With Pen Tool and Sheared Typefont

Hey guys, so I'm in the midst of making a type based logo right now and I sheared it to give it a bit of a diagonal edge. However, the diagonal lines are now noticeably pixelated and jagged. What I did was type out the name in the logo, then created outlines for it, then sheared it. I went over some of the lines with a pen tool stroke but it is still coming out the same. Here is my logos. The vertical diagonal lines in the E, K, R and I's are especially noticeable.
This is my own personal music producer logo and I am pretty green with illustrator. So how do I make it as clean as this http://www.iamgrimsby.com/19614/1986395/logos/makj or some of these http://www.ruudvaneijk.com/logos
Any Help would greatly be appreciated! Thank you guys so much!

Hey Thanks for your help guys! So I gave downsampling a shot but it still ends up looking pixelated. The diagonal line on the E especially. I originally sheared this font to make it look italicized, but the shearing is creating this issue.
Is it maybe just an issue of not using the shear function? When people use diagonal font do they typically just use the italiczed version of the font and not shear to achieve that look? If there is no italicized version of the font, am I just out of luck ?
When compared side by side with pro logos such as here: http://www.ruudvaneijk.com/logos and http://www.iamgrimsby.com/19614/171236/logos/alesso, the logos are just much cleaner and professional looking. How do I achieve this super clean professional look? Am I just not working with the correct size or DPI?
Here is another sample of my logo. Please help me guys. Thank you so much!

It sounds like you need to change your path operations?

  • Filling pen tool areas.

This is a very very basic question.I am able to colour and otherwise manipulate elementary vector objects, such as rectangles. Yes, I know how to use the colour panel and the fil land ink pot tool. However, sometimes I can colour a vector shape drawn with the pen tool and sometimes I cannot. It seems completely random.
In detail: select keyframe on an empty layer. I make a triangle with the pen tool, and a small circle shows completion. I get a triangle. This is coloured not for the stroke but for the layer. It seems to exist in two densities - a layer coloured line for drawing, a thicker, same-coloured one after selection. However, neither the ink bottle nor the fill tool do anything. I can set the colour in advance, or after the event, through the colour panel or otherwise, nothing. A gradient fill does not even show the guide lines for the fill tool.
If I draw a vector box on the same layer, everything works fine for th ebox, but not for the pen tool outline.
I am coming to this from Photoshop: do I have to convert the path to a selection, or something, before I can paint into a path?

Further to this, here is the solution.
The pen tool will, as you know, show an open circle when it has the potential to close a path. If you click, the path is supposed to close. In fact it, does not do so perfectly, and Fill will not work if the Options are set to respect small gaps. If you turn this off, it will fill.
How do you do this? If you select the paint bucket fill tool, you will see a similarly tiny icon with a circle on it appear at the foot of the tool bar. If you click on that, a series of options appear. Select "close small gaps" and now you can fill the path. This shows up on the properties window, for example, as a change in the property of the path, not the tool. The whole thing is simply stupidly thought through, or essentially not thought through.
It has taken me a day - a night - to solve this. There are no references to these ephemeral options in any help document that i have read. This is pretty typical of the Adobe approach to users. The CS4 UI is forced to be gray on gray, which may sound fine for graphics artists but makes the thing extremely hard to use for anyone else. . The icons do not resize with screen resolution, so if you want to use a 3000+ x 1500+ screen, as I do, they become invisibly small. If you go to what presumably Adobe thinks of as native resolution - 1260 x 768 -  they are still unreadable to anyone over 30 at normal viewing distance. How is anyone supposed to see, easily, whether a 5 pixel circle is filled with gray or not at four feet? Why not use colour, a shape change? Just as documentation is an afterthought, so too is the UI. I imagine the company as made up of very young programmers, all with good eyesight and, in general, a subservient marketing effort.

  • One point circle path with pen tool

I have heard or people drawing a circle path with one point and dragging or something like this.  I would really like to be able to do this! Is this possible?

Absolutely just hold down the shift key while dragging one of the ellipse tools. Add the Alt|CMD key then circle center will be where you start dragging from.  Marque ellipse tool or ellipse tool. Selection can be turned into path.  But the Ellipse tool is better for its a vector tool. Can create shapes layers, Paths and fill pixels... Pen Tool circle is hard but you can use the pen tool to edit the circle path created with the ellipse tool.
