Pen tool delay on adding a point.

I have fresh windows 8.1 plus photoshop cs 6 updated.
When i add a point with pen tool a half second delay appearf when i add any point.
Any solution? This is realy hard to work with.

The Adobe people do look here in this forum, and also (possibly moreso) at the Photoshop.com site:
Search results in Photoshop Family
Note that from the above search results you're not alone in noticing the pen sluggishness.
Given that the pen tool slowdown persisted throughout all the CS6 updates so far, and also in the first CC versions, I wouldn't hold my breath that it will be fixed in Photoshop CS6.  I don't sense a lot of work going back into that version.
I assume you're using Photoshop CS6 because you'd rather not subscribe to the cloud, but at some point you may need to either buy into it or accept that the newest subscription software is going to move on and ultimately be better than what you have.

  • Pen tool should only affect selected points or segments

    I think that it has already been suggested, but i don't enjoy the pen tool adding segments to unselected anchor points,
    Many times i want to snap a point to other point, not connecting the segments- For instance when colorizing a open lineart or working on a road map.
    I just want to put my new anchor point on top of an unselected anchor point (yes, like in Freehand)
    I know that i could lock objects, but i find the lock/unlock method is cumbersome and slow.
    I think that at least it should be an option in preferences to toggle this behavior (like there's one for "disable auto/add delete", a very similar behavior)

    Re-installing Fireworks seems to have done the trick.
    Just posting this solution for the rare few that may ever have this problem... I have no idea what was wrong, though. I actually couldn't click ANYTHING - the zoom tool didn't work either unless I clicked and dragged.
    Scratch all that, re-installing had no effect whatsoever.
    The problem is with a program I have running, SweetFM that plays music from Last.fm. There seems to be some sort of conflict between it and Fireworks! So yeah... don't run SweetFM while using Fireworks, I guess.

  • Pen tool - turn off SNAP-TO points

    Hello -- I'm running Illustrator CS3 on a Mac Powerbook. Somehow I've got some sort of "snap-to" feature turned on for the PEN TOOL, and I can't figure out where to tun it OFF.
    It's the constraint aspect that is unwanted (the symptoms are: the cursor constantly displays "tool tip" info about all sorts of existing nearby anchor points, various constraint angles, etc -- which is OK as info, but it also keeps snapping to these points in the image when I create a new anchor point, rather than letting me just click wherever I want).
    I want to reset to the DEFAULT behavior for creating arbitrary anchor points. This forced "snap-to" business is driving me nuts -- and I can't find where to turn this feature OFF. Someone point me in the right direction please.
    Thanks -- Robin

    Thanks -- good info from both Kurt and Wade -- I appreciate the help. I suspected that there was some menu item for this (probably "hidden in plain sight"), but I just couldn't find it.
    Adobe HELP didn't seem to have this topic for the keyword "pen tool", which also surprised me.
    I bet the SMART GUIDES are very helpful under certain circumstances -- but they were creating huge problems for what I was doing.
    Thanks again -- Robin

  • PEN TOOL PUTS DOWN THE WRONG POINTS???!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    FVCKING HELL GUYS
    I'VE BEEN BlTCHlNG ABOUT THIS **** FOR HALF AN HOUR ALREADY BC WHY THE FVCK IS MY PEN TOOL PUTTING DOWN THE POINTS AT THE WRONG PLACES???!!!!!!!!!! LIKE 'I WANNA PUT A POINT RIGHT HERE AND OOPS FVCKING ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR PUT IT ON THE FAR LEFT INSTEAD'

    b,
    As John says, you may have a look at Align to Pixel Grid. You may select everything and then untick Align to Pixel Grid in the Transform palette if needed, and also untick Align New Objects to Pixel Grid in the flyout options.
    You may avoid document types with that as default (RGB for web and the like) or change the default for such documents.
    But based on your mentioning on the far left may indivate something else.
    Especially if it is something happening in any document, you may try the list.
    The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
    If possible/applicable, you should save current artwork first, of course.
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to at least 5 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

  • Fw Pen Tool Bugged - Can't Create Points w/ a click

    So I don't use Fireworks much, but am trying to start. Am I wrong in thinking that just CLICKING somewhere on the canvas with the Pen Tool should add a point? Because it's not happening for me. The only way it adds a point is if I click and drag - which always creates a curve with handles. In Photoshop and Illustrator just clicking on the canvas creates a point that you can continue. What could be the problem?
    I've tried restarting my Mac, trashing Fireworks' preferences, fiddling with the mouse/touchpad click settings, ... nothing seems to work. And I know it can't be the Mac itself because this function works in AI/PS. Do I have something accidentally enabled that doesn't allow you to create a bloody point? I can't even believe I have to post on here for such a simple task.
    Any help would be appreciated...

    Re-installing Fireworks seems to have done the trick.

  • Is there a way to change pen tool width for each anchor point?

    I'm new to illistrator, and I've been looking around to see if I can find something that will show how I can take an ancor point and change the width of it. How can I do this? Thanks.

    There's a new width tool in CS5 which will allow you to vary the width of the stroke of a path.

  • Flash adds points to crossing pen tool lines

    Hello,
    I notice that when I draw a multi point line with Flash's pen tool and then move a point...
    if the line crosses another line, flash will add a point at the intersection
    of the two lines. I don't want additional points added, is there a way to
    turn this function off?

    Hi
    By default Flash draw objects in Merge Drawing mode which automatically merges shapes that you draw when you overlap them. So turning off Merge Drawing mode / enabling Object Drawing mode will help resolve your problem.
    When Pen tool is selected, select the Object Drawing button  from the Options category of the Tools panel(bottom part of the panel), or press the J key to toggle between the Merge and Object Drawing modes. The Object Drawing button toggles between the Merge and Object Drawing modes.

  • Pen tool cursor is different from the anchor point

    Hi, I'm using flash cc 2014, I'm having this issue, which is when I use pen tool to draw something, the anchor is different from the pen cursor. I need help !

    Kyle
    as suggested but not quite defined what you want to do is after you have drawn a curve path with the pen tool you now want to add a straight segment, so you press down the option tool drag the end of the leading anchor handle while still holding down the option key and drag the handle into the anchor point. Nothing else will move but the anchor point handle.
    Once the handle is withdrawn into the anchor point you can now position the pen tool, first of course releasing the option key, and clicking and the segment will be a straight path unless of course you drag as you click.
    I agree it would be nice to have a keyboard toggle to allow for a straight segment.
    Perhaps there is but I do not know of it. It is a good complaint. I believe there are ways of accomplishing this in other applications.
    There is another way as well. Just hold the command key to get a select tool and click anywhere to deselect the path. Then click where you want the straight segment to end and the click the pen tool on the last anchor point of the segment you previously created.

  • Pen tool and eyedropper pointer circle

    My pen tool used to have arrow pointer and now it is just a circle.  Same for eyedropper.
    I must have clicked on something. How do i reverse this?

    Is caps-lock on?

  • How can I get the Fireworks pen tool to disengage from an open path shape (and stay disengaged)!

    I am so frustrated! I can't get the fireworks pen tool to disengage when I am finished creating an open path shape (double clicking the end-point isn't working).  The only way I can disengage the pen tool  is to click on a different tool, BUT ...if I do that (i.e., click on a different tool), and then go back to the pen tool (with the intent to create another open path shape), the pen tool automatically engages the last point of my prior open path shape ... and ... no matter what I do, I can't get the pen tool in Fireworks to stop doing this with my open path shapes.
    If anyone has any helpful advice, it would be much appreciated!
    Thank you!
    (note: I prefer not to have to go back and forth creating open path shapes in Illustrator then bring them into Fireworks, but if all else fails, I suppose I'll have to as a work-around.)

    Have you tried holding the Command key and clicking away from the last point? The Command (⌘) key will bring up the Subselection tool; clicking on the canvas with it will allow you to disengage from the path. Once you release the key, the Pen tool will return and you can begin another path.

  • Allow Tool Recording Action Problem with Pen Tool -PS6 beta

    Hi,
    I’m trying to create an action that will erase a shape layer box that I am using for a registration point.
    I have “allow tool recording” on
    I select the shape layer in the layer palette
    Use the direct selection tool to marquee the box  on the shape layer I want to erase
    Use the pen tool to delete each anchor point
    I do erase the box but when I play back the recorded action,
    It will marquee and select the 4 box anchor points and even though the action dialog box says
    “Use delete anchor point”
    nothing happens.
    Any ideas?  Thanks.

    The path selection tool selects the entire shape layer and won't delete it, I only want to select and delete a small portion of the shape layer.  Thanks for trying.

  • Smooth path tool (for pen tool).

    Hello, all.
    I believe I remember using this tool or function in the past but can't seem to find it now.
    In the past I have traced the outline of an image using the pen tool by placing as many points along the countour or outline as possible. Once I closed the path the appearance was not perfectly smooth. I remember using a tool after that to smooth the path that would eliminate any uneven or jagged edges and make the curves really smooth.
    Does anyone know how to do this in CS6?
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi, DrStrik9.
    Perhaps I didn't explain it well enough.
    I have tried using bezier curvers and the method you describe but found the process a little tedious and time-consuming.
    The method I used before required the placement of as many points along the outline as practically possible with a path smoothing tool to smooth the closed path (it may work with open paths too). My memory tells me I used this technique with the pen tool but it may have been a different drawing too.
    Are you aware of a path smoothing method like the one I described?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Using the knife vs. the pen tool to alter paths?

    Is there a reason to use the Knife tool to cut up a shape VS. using the Pen tool to add or subtract additional paths?

    The Knife tool cuts a single path into two separate paths.
    The pen tool adds or removes anchor points to a single path.
    There is no direct relation between the two. They both serve completely separate purposes.
    Am I just doing your homework or something? These are all questions that could easily be answered by spending 10 Minutes with the application and trying the tools.

  • Using the pen tool

    I am only a beginner at illustrator so I am just getting use to the pen tool. I added a photo of what I'm trying to do. From the photo you can see the different shapes, I have used a template and traced over them with pen tool but now I want to add colour. Everytime I select the shapes with a * in it and try to add colour it doesnt colour that whole shape? It maybe the way I traced it or is it something else? any help would be grateful.

    Shybco,
    With CS6 you should be able to use Live Paint to just dump different colours into the areas that are visually separated by (parts of) paths.
    It seems that this is a reasonably accurate description:
    There seems to be a path to the left/bottom looking like part of a six star, curved path to the upper right, and three > four paths between them, the two upper ones with a smaller Stroke Weight.
    To create the separate objects for the different parts, which will give you clean and consistent artwork, one way to throw it together without having to redraw anything (assuming the four paths in between actually reach the star and the curved path) is as follows. Always save your artwork before doing something like this, and work on a copy on a new layer or something.
    1) Copy the star (Ctrl/Cmd+C+F) and hide the original (click the Eye in the Layers palette);
    2) Copy the  paths in between and copy the outermost two once more, then select each of the (top) copies by clicking on it with the Selection Tool and Object>Path>Divide Objects Below;
    3) Delete the lower left part of the star and the end snippets of the upper curved path;
    Now you should have the parts of the three shapes to make into closed paths;
    4) For each shape, using the (normal) Selection Tool, ShiftClick once on the star part path and once on each of the other paths surrounding the shape, then lock/hide the new path (unnecessary for the last one);
    Now you should have all the shapes as closed paths;
    5) Show/unlock everything and apply the different fill colours.

  • Pen tool Problems

    When using the pen tool, the handles and anchor points vanish and cannot be altered. HOw can I change this back to being visable? I don't even know what I did! This is in adobe Illustrator CS6.

    I don't think that is what she is experiencing, if you read it carefully the achor point handles are not visible. I don't think she is refering to the path disapearing, which would be the case if she pressed the combination of keys Ctrl+H that hides the path.
    I'm having pen tool issues (that's why I found this thread) because IA is acting buggy lately, meaning that when creating a path I usually kept the pen tool active and just press the Ctrl key & hold while making adjustment to the handles. But lately the handles disapear, or can't make them reapear, I reselect the path all the achors are selected as if I'm in the V tool and in order to bring back the handles I have to reselect the path with the A tool. I hope Adobe plans to fix this issue...
