Pen tool: handles snapping to grid not functioning

Since it was not answered by the Adobe Illustrator CC staff, I'll ask again:
I use the handles snapping to grid functionality extensively when creating icons and other detail-intensive shapes. How do I re-enable this feature, or is it necessary to revert to an older, more functional version of Illustrator?
This is very frustrating, such a simple feature and, for no logical reason, it has been removed from Illustrator. Makes me regret updating and paying for Illustrator CC.

there was a discussion on this when the feature was first removed. did you see it? I think a support staff member posted in it, but nothing positive...
edit: yeah, it was just people complaining and the staff guy stating that this was indeed the case.

  • Pen tool without snap

I have little bit provlem with using a pen tool in Photoshop. I am conviced that solution would by somewhere in options. When I use a pen tool it snap my path to whole pixels. Is there any settings where I could set that my paths which I make with pen tool won t be snapped to whole pixels. Just want to anywhere where I click to make new path/ anchor point will be exactly at this place without snaping?
Thank you very much for advice and maybe apologize for my english. If it is sounds not fully undrestandable tell me that :-)

go to view and make sure snap is off. then make sure when you are using the pen tool that align edges is unchecked.

  • Snap to grid not working

I am going crazy with the snap to grid function not working. I have read through all of the topics I could find on the forums and nothing has worked. I am working on a huge grid with a shape needing to be snapped into each space and nothing snaps at all. I have tried the un-tick align to pixel grid, the un-tick align new object to pixel grid...nothing works. None of the shapes align to the grid.
Please, has anyone any suggestions of what to do next? I cannot envisage moving a thousand shapes into a grid accurately manually...
    Suggestions will be much appreciated!

If they are jump in then you are snapping to something. Usually snap to pint is overridden by grid.
Do a view >> show grid if you have not so you can see the grid.
A screenshot would help, so we can give you good advice.

  • Pen tool handle question: clear one handle only

I feel pretty comfortable with the Pen Tool; however there is one small question that I haven't been able to solve.
If a point has 2 handles, how do I get rid of just ONE handle? I can kind of do it by dragging the handle to the anchor point, but it is still there, to drag out again.
I read that Opt-Clicking (I think) the handle will do it, but that does not work for me.
    Thanks,
    Sonny

    Sonny:
I don't think that you quite understand what the handles are indicating:
    No Handles = a Corner Point;
Two handles (that move in concert) = a Smooth Point
Two handle which can move independently) = a Cusp Point
Option Click on the end of a Smooth Point's Handle to make the Point into a Cusp Point.
Option Click on the Node of a Smooth Point or a Cusp point to make the Point into a Corner Point.
Option Click on the Node of a Corner point to make the Point into a Smooth Point.
The Handles are there to help you use them to shape your Paths.

  • Photoshop CS6 Snap to Grid not working.

    Hey everyone,
I recently acquired Photoshop and wanted to try my hand at some pixel art, but I can't get the snap to grid to work.
The pixel grid works fine - which is great, when I'm making something tiny, but I am trying to draw with a 5 size pixel, and my grid won't work.
The brush still snaps to the pixel grid - and I have no idea how to change the preferences for the pixel grid, slash turn it off, slash anything.
I tried turning off the 'Snap to vector and pixel grid' in the preferences menu, but it is still snapping to the pixel grid.
    Please advise?

New to GarageBand 3, the ability to work without the snap to grid. Now the snap to grid feature only works if the song position read out is set to musical time. (see the little icon of the note and the icon of the clock next to the song position info in the main control bar.)
Switch to musical time to get the snap to grid to work.
If this is already set, then something else is wrong.

  • Pen tool, handles missing?

I was wondering why some points made with the pen tool have handles (to adjust curves) and other points don't have handles. I need to curve a couple points but they can't be adjusted, just moved, anybody know why?

The points with handles are know as Smooth points and without handles Corner points. To add handles to a Corner point click and drag on the point using the Convert Anchor Point Tool. To remove handles from Smooth point click once on the point.
The Convert Anchor Point Tool can be found grouped with the Pen Tool.

  • Pen Tool handles merged??

Ok I'm sure this is one of those 'duh!' questions, but when using the pen tool and you end up with two different handles being on the exact same tangent, they seem to merge on me. How do you select just one of them to get it away from the other?
    TIA.

If you are talking about two curve handles being at the same angle and on the same side of the anchorPoint, and they are "locked" together such that you cannot move one without moving both—that is a bug which has existed for several versions. I recently stumbled upon a means by which to produce it, but it escapes my memory right now.
Delete the anchorPoint and create a new one.

  • LACK OF FULL PEN TOOL FUNCTIONALITY WHEN CREATING A SHAPE LAYER

Hello, I'm going through Chris Meyer's video course on being an AE apprentice and have spent over an hour on the following issue.
    Here is what I know.
I know I am trying to create a shape layer, not a mask, to create a frame to surround the video of the green field on the attached screenshot.  Therefore, I pressed "F2" to make sure I am doing so.
I want to define the borders of this picture frame by using the pen tool to draw a path on the layer entitled "Windy Peak".
I have highlighted that layer in my timeline.
This video was pasted on to a placeholder shape that I had created using Command Option "/" on my Mac.
I do have limited use of the pen tool, because it displays properly when I hover it above the borders of the video to be framed.
But I lack access to the toolbar controls I want to complete my assignment.
For example, I would like to create a gradient to define the internal coloration of this frame, but I have no use of the eyedropper when I click on the Color Picker.
Also, I am unable to access or manipulate any of the standard fill or stroke options for use of my pen.
    This is what I know.
    Thanks for your help!   Matt
Message was edited by: Matt Dubuque to add the fact that the video had been pasted on to a placeholder shape image by pressing Command Option "/" on my Mac.

Thanks for pitching in Todd and Rick, I appreciate it very much.
As previously stated, I do have use of the pen tool, but it only has limited functionality as demonstrated by the path I created on the green meadow.  My Tools Panel remains activated .
My core problem remains that I am unable to adjust the fill or stroke settings for my pen.
I have tried changing and resetting various work spaces and this has not helped.
    I'm scratching my head here.

  • Rectangular marquee does not snap to grid even though snap to grid is checked under view

    Hey all,
I cannot snap to a grid even though snap to grid is checked under view > snap to > grid. Unless I am zoomed in all the way, when I drag marquee, it always snaps two pixels above or two pixels below where I'm trying to snap to grid, which is the green line I created. I don't know if this is a Photoshop bug but it's clearly not snapping to the grid for me unless I am zoomed in all the way, but then at that point, I have to drag it across the whole document and because I'm zoomed in so far, it takes several minutes.Any reason why snap to grid not working in PhotoShop CS4?
    Thanks for response.

it always snaps two pixels above or two pixels below where I'm trying to snap to grid, which is the green line I created.
Green lines for the Grid? Did you change the color in the Preferences specifically?
And your use of the singular »line« is a bit suspicious – are you sure you are talking about the Grid and not Guides?

  • Have anchor points snap to grid changed?

My anchor points used to snap to the grid when using the pen tool on a 1px before in Adobe Illustrator CC 2014. Has this changed for this version?
If not, does anyone know how I would be able to enable this feature again? I have all my snap to grid settings etc. on.

THIS IS REALLY FRUSTRATING (and I'm not the type to use all caps all over the place).  Here are the repro steps (in case that were helpful):
    Illustrator CS6
    Turn on snap to grid.
    Create a circle.
Drag out each of the handles closer to the corners of the circle's space.
Notice that the handles snap to the intersection points on the grid.
    Illustrator CC (18.0.0)
    Turn on snap to grid.
Create a circle (move it around to double-ensure that snap to grid is functioning properly for the shape).
Drag out each of the handles.
Notice that there is no way to ensure that the handles move in the exact same amount all the way around the circle. They do not snap.
Try the scale tool. Select a point and hit ‘s’, then drag out a handle. Notice that it still doesn’t snap to point.
This sort of thing is suicide for Illustrator. It’s the one program that should let you make whatever vector shape you want without having to resort to crazy workarounds. How can we make awesome things like this without the kind of control we used to have in Illustrator?

  • Simple question about pen tool in Flash vs Photoshop

    Hi,
After years of fumbling with the pen tool, I devoted my holiday weekend to mastering the pen tool in Photoshop. Though not necessarily a grand master of the pen tool, I'm happy to report that I've turned a corner and have transformed my pen tool feelings from fear/anger/hate into love/happiness/accomplishment. At long last, it all makes sense.
    I think.
Today, I zipped into Flash to experiment with a tracing assignment I'm giving to my students in an upcoming Flash class. As I started to trace the path with the pen tool, I realized that it was behaving differently than it does in Photoshop. My specific problem is this:
I place an anchor point and draw a line. Then I draw another line. Then I draw another line. Then, I decide to adjust one of the handles and try to draw another line. But it won't let me just go back to adding things to the path with the pen tool if any part of the process is disrupted.
This seems like pretty basic functionality! What am I doing wrong?
To make sure that I wasn't crazy, I went back to Photoshop and tried to do the same thing. It works just fine in Photoshop. At any time, I can hop away from the pen path and then back over to the pen tool. All I need to do to extend the path with the pen tool in Photoshop is to click on the last anchor point in the path. Surely, this must also be possible in Flash.
I would be grateful for any advice!
    Aaron

  • Illustrator Pen Tool problems

My pen tool in Illustrator CS3 is not working properly. I am operating on Windows XP. I have deslected snap to guide and even reinstalled Illustrator.
    Any help for me.

Does it do this all the time, in all documents? Are you using a mouse or digital pen? Sounds like something wrong with the input device. Do you have problems with the other illustrator tools or different programs?

  • Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 Pen tool

I recently bought Photoshop elements 10, and cant sem to find the Pen Tool. I know its stupid and simple but could someone tell me where it is?

There is a Freeform Pen Tool (Text on a Custom Path Tool) that has some of features that the Freeform Pen Tool in photoshop has, but not a true pen tool per se.
You can even use it to modify shape layers and stroke paths with some of the painting tools like the brush tool.
I guess it depends on how want to use it, whether you find it suitable or not.

  • Problem with Pen Tool contrast...

I noticed this the other day. When I'm using the pen tool in Photoshop CS4, it sometimes takes the color of what I'm using the pen tool on, ie; if I'm working with a picture with a bright green or pink, the path is bright green or pink (see link below) The picture isn't the worst that it does, but if I took a screenshot when it's at it's worst, you wouldn't see anything. I went through all the preferences and saw nothing. I do have the OpenGL acceleration turned on. Thanks for any input!!!

Thanks. That fixed it. I was able to select no fill in the pen tool bar (when pen tool is active), but could not select no fill when I clicked on the fill box in the regular tool bar (unless there is a trick) - all that comes up are color gradients to select.
