Pen Tool in Flash 8
I'm very new to this, and am trying to draw a circle using
the pen tool. When clicking on the pen tool I get a "plus sign"
instead of a "pin" incon. It doesn't behave the way the text book
(HOT) tell me it should. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong. Any
help?
What way does this "HOT" book tell you and how does it
actually "behave"? We need to understand the
expectations of the book and what is or is not happening
based on those expectations.

Whenever I select the pen tool in Flash, in the properties
panel it only gives me an option for stroke color, not fill, so I
can only make stroked objects. I want to make a colored object
without a stroke. How do I do this? (running cs3).The Pen tool is only for making strokes - therefore the fill
color swatch is
simply not an option - if you want to make shapes then use
any of the shape
tools or the brush tool. You can always draw with the pen
tool and then
connect the paths and use the bucket tool to fill them.

I'm in the process of teaching myself the components of the CS4 Design Premium package using the Adobe Classroom in a Book series. I'm currently going through the Flash CIAB and i've started using the pen tool. The task involves creating a wave like design across the stage. Whilst this in itself is simple, the final instruction is to click on the first anchor point to close the shape. In the illustration, the closed shape seems to automatically extend around the stage, however when I click on the first anchor point, the line automatically connects between the two points in a straight line.
Am I doing something wrong? The next step is to fill this area, but with the straight line effect that I am getting, this becomes impossible. I should point out that the instruction states that the pen tool line should extend off the stage. I have done this, but even then on clicking on the first anchor point the shape is closed incorrectly.
If you have any suggestions as to why this may be, I would be greatly appreciative.
ChrisThanks Ned,
I think I worked out the problem; I think that part of the instruction was missing. When I looked at the picture again, I noticed that there were anchor points around the stage, so I guess that was what I missed. I was simply creating the wavy line across the stage, and then clicking on the first anchor point to close the shape. I resolved the problem by creating three anchor points around the stage and then closing the image by clicking on the first anchor.
Thanks again for your help Ned.

Mysterious issues with the pen tool in flash (CS3 & CS4)
i have searched tirelessly for the answer to this problem and still have no answer. when using the pen tool to create shapes, occasionanally when i click to add the next point the line segment jumps over to a previously added point. also, sometimes when i add a point, the point mysteriously starts moving on the screen all by itself. i have used illustrator for many years and it's pen tool is perfect in so many ways and it is counterproductive to have to jump to illustrator to do any pen tool work and then import it into flash
anybody have this issue or know why this might be happening?Hello
I have the same issue. I think it is a bug.
Sometimes when I delete points with <delete> key on keyboard, flash also deletes randomly frames on locked layers with all of its contents.
You have to start tricking over these issues, if you do not want to be nervous. Like using a one key -shortcut substitute of Ctrl+Z
Sometimes it's happening, because there are not perfectly overlapping shapes on each other on one layer, .
Sometimes because there are a parenting issue, flash sometimes breaks, if you draw to deep under the "root" of the
project.
Or if you have a lot of vectrice on one layer. But I am just guessing too. -
Simple question about pen tool in Flash vs Photoshop
Hi,
After years of fumbling with the pen tool, I devoted my holiday weekend to mastering the pen tool in Photoshop. Though not necessarily a grand master of the pen tool, I'm happy to report that I've turned a corner and have transformed my pen tool feelings from fear/anger/hate into love/happiness/accomplishment. At long last, it all makes sense.
I think.
Today, I zipped into Flash to experiment with a tracing assignment I'm giving to my students in an upcoming Flash class. As I started to trace the path with the pen tool, I realized that it was behaving differently than it does in Photoshop. My specific problem is this:
I place an anchor point and draw a line. Then I draw another line. Then I draw another line. Then, I decide to adjust one of the handles and try to draw another line. But it won't let me just go back to adding things to the path with the pen tool if any part of the process is disrupted.
This seems like pretty basic functionality! What am I doing wrong?
To make sure that I wasn't crazy, I went back to Photoshop and tried to do the same thing. It works just fine in Photoshop. At any time, I can hop away from the pen path and then back over to the pen tool. All I need to do to extend the path with the pen tool in Photoshop is to click on the last anchor point in the path. Surely, this must also be possible in Flash.
I would be grateful for any advice!

Pressure sensitive pen tool for flash
Hi! !
Well i'm new to this forum. What I need is a
<b>pressure sensitive pen tool plug-in for flash</b>,
which will be very helpful for me in my animations.
pls replyNo such plugin. All you need is a pressure sensitive tablet.
Then in Flash, select the Brush tool. Then click on the
little tapering line at the bottom of the Tools pallette to turn on
pressure sensitivity. -
I used to drew the picture in the flash .Now its version
becomed to 9.0,but the "pen tool" has not any changed. The "pen
tool" in the Photoshop is very nice ,easily, useful and comfortable.
I can draw any curse by it.
Why the "pen tool " in flash is not good enough ?It still a
trouble. But it HAS changed - the Pen tool is very similar to the Pen
tool In Illustrator now.

Activating Pen Tool Endpoints in Flash
I'm trying to create an animated stick figure. Im used to adobe Illustrator, so i am confused by the Pen tool in flash. when i drag the direct selection tool over an anchor point to move it - it doesn't hilight the way it does in AI. I seem to have to actually find the point and click on it to activate it. This seems like an inferior way for the line tool to work. Am i missing something? Should it hilight / activate when I run the pointer over it - or is that jsut the way it is.
BTW, are there any good tutorials on animating a stick figure that anyone could point me to? maybe that will help me understand how the Pen tool works.
Many thanks in advance!
KarenFlash works quite differently than AI. If you want to work with anchor points, you neet a Subselection Tool (white arrow).
At first, you need to select a path so the anchor points get visible. Notice the little icon in the lower right corner of the cursor when you hover the path. It should be black filled rect.
When you move cursor over an anchor point, the rect changes to empty one. After selecting an anchor point, you can hover its control points and then the whole cursor changes from white arrow to black filled arrow. -
Newbie question: Using the pen tool
Hi, I drew a shape with the pen tool in Flash CS4. When I double click on the line it highlights the entire shape, but I can't fill for some reason. If I single click, only part of the line is highlighted (before it changes angle). How can I get this line to connect as a shape to invoke fill on it?
Thanks, Mikealso check out the "close large gaps" option when using the paintbucket tool

Minimum amount of segments with pen tool
I have a really basic question using the pen tool in Flash. Is there a minimum amount of segments (or something that I'm not doing) that need to be drawn in order to close a polygon shape created with the pen tool. I've found in many instances I seem to be closing the polygon and yet when I go to fill the object it won't fill. I then discover that the beginning and end points are not "joined" together (as in Illustrator). The icon turns to a hollow circle when I get to the original point (as in Illustrator) but it doesn't close the segments.
ThanksCheck if you have your fill color set to non-blank. In Properties Panel, under Fill and Stroke.
After drawing your polygon, select a Paint Bucket Tool (K), select fill color and click inside the polygon.
If the shape is (from any reason) really not closed, select Selection Tool (V) and check the main menu -> view -> snapping -> snap to objects: true.
Hover over the unconnected anchor point until you get a corner icon next to the cursor. Then click & drag the point to the other point you want to connect it with. Snapping will ensure the polygon will close now.
Now you can use the Paint Bucket Tool. -
Fill shape drawn with pen tool
There are three posts dealing with this issue and each time the person who posted the problem said they figured it out but did not say what they did. Here is the problem:
I draw a shape with the pen tool in Flash CS4. I made sure the shape was closed. But, I cannot fill the shape no matter what. Paint bucket tool does not work. Whatever I do, I get the red diagonal line on the fill color. I can fill a shape with the rectangle or oval tools but not the pen tool.
Please help. Thanks. Thanks for your help. I tried what you suggested but the union selection was grayed out. I was in the drawing object mode. But after fooling with it for a bit the following worked (I'm still not sure why):
I double clicked on the object with the selection tool.
I then selected a fill color in the property panel and it filled in.
However, I cannot replicate this. I tried drawing another shape with the pen tool and cannot fill it in. I tried converting it to a symbol and that did not work either. I must have done something to the original shape that allowed me to fill it in last time I fooled with it. -
How do you transfer pen tool drawings from Photoshop CS2 to Flash CS3?
I tried to copy and paste it but that didn't work.
I didn't want to redraw the entire picture in in pen again in Flash (so that I could later animate the drawing), so I was wondering how I could transfer the pen tool drawings from Photoshop to Flash?helpmepleaze a écrit:
I have an old laptop with Photoshop elements 5.0 and wanted to move that program to my newer PC but the program was too old so I bought and loaded Photoshop Elements 13 on my PC. To import my photos from the 5.0 I did a full backup on a flash drive and then loaded the pictures to the PC with 13. The pictures are there but none of my collections from 5.0. I read the manual and said I was supposed to be prompted to convert old catalogs. I was never prompted and do not know how to transfer my collections in my catalog from 5.0 to the 13.
What you are doing is not only to install a newer version of PSE, it's also to migrate to a new computer.
The general solution is to do a full organizer backup on an external drive and do an organizer restore to the new computer (or new drive).
Use Backup, Restore to move catalog | Organizer | Elements 6 or later
The problem is that since PSE5 is an old version working with a different database engine, you must first use a conversion utility to create a PSE13 version.
http://helpx.adobe.com/elements-organizer/kb/convert-organizer-catalog-elements-13-64.html
So read that paper carefully, do the backup restore and conversion as described. -
I am trying to use the Flash pen tool to create a shape to
use as a mask. All of the tutorials say that if I close the lines
drawn with the pen tool by clicking on the first point (tool show a
o) it will automatically fill. This worked for me once but I cannot
get it to close and fill again. Any suggestions about what I might
be doing wrong?this will seem like an obvious question (i dont use the pen
tool) but do you have a fill color selected?

Flash adds points to crossing pen tool lines
Hello,
I notice that when I draw a multi point line with Flash's pen tool and then move a point...
if the line crosses another line, flash will add a point at the intersection
of the two lines. I don't want additional points added, is there a way to
turn this function off?Hi
By default Flash draw objects in Merge Drawing mode which automatically merges shapes that you draw when you overlap them. So turning off Merge Drawing mode / enabling Object Drawing mode will help resolve your problem.
When Pen tool is selected, select the Object Drawing button from the Options category of the Tools panel(bottom part of the panel), or press the J key to toggle between the Merge and Object Drawing modes. The Object Drawing button toggles between the Merge and Object Drawing modes.

Just remember to stitch around the shape just like you would
when
marquee marking. Don't drag. Holding down the Alt key in
Windows will
prevent dragging.
