Pen tool issue

Whenever I click on an audio level line in the timeline with the pen tool, in addition to creating a "node," it also moves the audio level by at least a couple of decibels. Is there some way to add a node so that it doesn't do this? It's really irritating!
I'm using FCPro 4.5.
Thanks.

I understand what you're saying.
I'm not very good with mice, so I stick to the keyboard shortcut -- Option-Command-K -- for adding level (aka volume) keyframes.
Be aware that this uses track targeting. So if you want to do this on tracks A3 & A4, but A1 & A2 are targeted, select the clip(s) on tracks A3 & A4 in the timeline, then use the key command. Also, this is independent of the currently selected tool (ie. it works if you're using the Selection tool, or the Pen tool, or the Ripple tool, etc)

  • CS5 Pen Tool Issues

I use the pen tool more then almost any other tool as all images need to have a clipping path. But sometimes I get the issues where the pen tool gets stuck in "Add to Path Area (+)" instead of the normal "Exclude overlapping path area". It will get stuck randomly and will not let me change it in the tool. If I go to the path selection tool it lets me change it there but the pen tool still remains stuck. It is kind of annoying to have half the path be what I want and the other half be added so when I remove the background all the holes in the center that I have are still filled. If I change to the ellipse tool it will go back to exclude(where it defaults on that tool) and work for a while then go back again on another image. Thing is that it always goes to the "Add to path area(+)" It is really beginning to get to me fast. Anyone else having this issue or know how to fix it? I am using it on Snow Lepoard 10.6.8 with the last version of photoshop(though it has been doing this since I got this mac 2 years ago). Intel Core 2 Duo 3.06ghz, 16gb ram and NVIDIA GeForce 9400 256mb GPU. Nothing too special but it does not happen on my PC, only mac and it is really irritating.
    Nick

I tried it in CS4, and it does both of it there too, ugh. Thats weird, I'm surprised. Especially because both tools work properly when sample all layers is on, even with geometric shapes.
Something Adobe overlooked maybe? I dunno, thanks charles.

  • Photoshop CS6 Pen Tool Issue

The pen tool won't fill even when I set it to shape layers. Shapes won't fill either. It's getting me really frustrated and I'm not sure if it's just a glitch or I'm missing something.

Check the options bar for the path tools you're using.
Make sure they are set to shape layer, and check the fill that you specified (to make sure you didn't specify a fill of "none").

  • Make Selection Pen Tool Issue

Thanks for reading first of all.
I know and love the pen tool and have used it for a long time now but suddenly today something is awry. When I outline the part of the image I want and choose make selection it selects everything BUT what I have a path around. This is driving me batty. I tried changing various options in paths and the pen tool but I just can't seem to find out what is suddenly making it do this.
    I'm using CS4.
Thanks for any and all responses for you will be helping me not pull my hair out any further.

    That worked, thank you.
Now my only question is why it is suddenly inversing my selections to begin with? Is there an option I accidentally turned on with a hot key? This is a brand new thing happening here when I choose make selection. I mean, it wasn't doing it yesterday.
Anyways, thanks for the quick reply, my hair is now safe again for the time being.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 - Pen Tool Issue

When trying to use the pen tool to mark key frames for the opacity levels on certain clips, it will not allow me to mark them.
For example, I imported one single clip, chopped it up on the timeline, and certain sections will not allow me to use the pen tool, but a few do.
Any thoughts on how to fix this? I'm using CS5.

Personally, I find this easier done in the Effects Control panel.

  • Pen tool lag after upgrading to CC

Hi everyone, after upgrading to CC my pen tool is seriously lagging. Whenever I click a new anchor point, it takes about 1 second for it to appear. Any thoughts?

I've commented on this bug in another thread and am still simply shocked that Adobe hasn't addressed this for what seems like Windows users(fyi, I'm on Win7 64, plenty of ram, latest version of PS CC 14.2.1, latest video card driver for Nvidia GT630).
The latest update looks to have fixed the pen tool issues for Mac users, from what I'm hearing from others. The very irritating pen tool lag isn't the only problem, as I'm also unable to press the + or - keys to preset the path operation mode, as in CS6. Does anyone know of a time frame to fix this, or better, a temporary fix/workaround? I've already done a total reinstall, trashed prefs, turned off and on lots of different options under Performace in preferences. To almost make matters worse, the pen tool will randomly work fine with no lag, then start lagging again(although the preset path operation mode never works.. considering using Autohotkey for that). I've tried to pay attention to any setting I may have changed when it suddenly works, but it truly does seem random. And oh yes, the pen tool lag goes away if I use my very outdated Wacom, but using a tablet is counterproductive for me.
Any reply/suggestion is truly appreciated, thanks guys and gals

  • Pen tool Problems

When using the pen tool, the handles and anchor points vanish and cannot be altered. HOw can I change this back to being visable? I don't even know what I did! This is in adobe Illustrator CS6.

I don't think that is what she is experiencing, if you read it carefully the achor point handles are not visible. I don't think she is refering to the path disapearing, which would be the case if she pressed the combination of keys Ctrl+H that hides the path.
I'm having pen tool issues (that's why I found this thread) because IA is acting buggy lately, meaning that when creating a path I usually kept the pen tool active and just press the Ctrl key & hold while making adjustment to the handles. But lately the handles disapear, or can't make them reapear, I reselect the path all the achors are selected as if I'm in the V tool and in order to bring back the handles I have to reselect the path with the A tool. I hope Adobe plans to fix this issue...

  • Mysterious issues with the pen tool in flash (CS3 & CS4)

i have searched tirelessly for the answer to this problem and still have no answer. when using the pen tool to create shapes, occasionanally when i click to add the next point the line segment jumps over to a previously added point. also, sometimes when i add a point, the point mysteriously starts moving on the screen all by itself. i have used illustrator for many years and it's pen tool is perfect in so many ways and it is counterproductive to have to jump to illustrator to do any pen tool work and then import it into flash
anybody have this issue or know why this might be happening?

    Hello
I have the same issue. I think it is a bug.
Sometimes when I  delete points with <delete> key on keyboard, flash also deletes randomly frames on locked layers with all of its contents.
You have to start tricking over these issues, if you do not want to be nervous. Like using a one key -shortcut substitute of Ctrl+Z
Sometimes it's happening, because there are not perfectly overlapping shapes on each other on one layer, .
Sometimes because there are a parenting issue, flash sometimes breaks, if you draw to deep under the "root" of the
    project.
Or if you have a lot of vectrice on one layer. But I am just guessing too.

I just recently up graded from AI CS6 to AI CC and I am having issues with my pen tool. If I create a starting point and then make another point it does not allow me to make the second point an end point. The pen tool stays active and I either have to click to isolate the path or I have to return to the first point and close the path. Please help.

    artisttouch,
If you cannot close the Pen Tool by switching to another tool, as a temporary measure you may try pressing P (for Pen).
To solve it, you may try the list.
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
If possible/applicable, you should save curent artwork first, of course.
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

  • Pen tool stroke issue. Glitch?

So im pretty sure someone has the answer to this, and I will tell you how I "fixed" it, but for now I need to know why it is doing this.
I am outlining a scanned image with the pen tool.  I set my Stroke to white w/ no fill.  BUT, when I draw it turns cyan and if I turn off the stroke comletely, it still shows a stroke, even though the red slashes appear on my tool bar.  Hmmm...  any idea why it is doing this?  Does this explaination even make sense?
so I fixed it by simply copying the art and pasting it into a new dwg.  (a little ACAD trick) But curiousity still lingers...what causes this issue?  A glitch?....

How did you tell there was an appearance on that layer? Guess I overlooked it...
So was that something that I did on accident then, I guess?
thanks for the help on that...that did it.
I can tell Im gonna learn alot on this here forum...

  • LACK OF FULL PEN TOOL FUNCTIONALITY WHEN CREATING A SHAPE LAYER

Hello, I'm going through Chris Meyer's video course on being an AE apprentice and have spent over an hour on the following issue.
    Here is what I know.
I know I am trying to create a shape layer, not a mask, to create a frame to surround the video of the green field on the attached screenshot.  Therefore, I pressed "F2" to make sure I am doing so.
I want to define the borders of this picture frame by using the pen tool to draw a path on the layer entitled "Windy Peak".
I have highlighted that layer in my timeline.
This video was pasted on to a placeholder shape that I had created using Command Option "/" on my Mac.
I do have limited use of the pen tool, because it displays properly when I hover it above the borders of the video to be framed.
But I lack access to the toolbar controls I want to complete my assignment.
For example, I would like to create a gradient to define the internal coloration of this frame, but I have no use of the eyedropper when I click on the Color Picker.
Also, I am unable to access or manipulate any of the standard fill or stroke options for use of my pen.
    This is what I know.
    Thanks for your help!   Matt
Message was edited by: Matt Dubuque to add the fact that the video had been pasted on to a placeholder shape image by pressing Command Option "/" on my Mac.

Thanks for pitching in Todd and Rick, I appreciate it very much.
As previously stated, I do have use of the pen tool, but it only has limited functionality as demonstrated by the path I created on the green meadow.  My Tools Panel remains activated .
My core problem remains that I am unable to adjust the fill or stroke settings for my pen.
I have tried changing and resetting various work spaces and this has not helped.
    I'm scratching my head here.

  • Photoshop CS4 Crash Using the Pen Tool

We have experienced an issue where creating a line/path using the Pen tool in Photoshop CS4 caused a system-wide freeze, regardless of operating system, other software installed, etc....
Not even a kernal panic, but just a complete freeze.
We found that it only occurred on our white, 24-inch iMacs (2.16 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo). I tried it on 5 different white iMacs, with various builds of Tiger or Leopard, and they all froze up completely.
We had a plain 10.5.8 image on one of the white iMacs, with nothing extra except Photoshop CS4, and it froze up completely using the Pen Tool on a new document as well.
Oddly enough, the workaround was having Photoshop CS4 run using Rosetta, and then the Pen Tool works fine. It is odd considering the iMacs have Intel processors, and not PowerPC that would need Rosetta.
I have not found anyone else with hardware specific issues like this. So, I thought i should share our (hopefully) temporary workaround.

A complete system freeze means a kernel or driver level bug, or a hardware problem.
Rosetta won't process as fast - meaning that the processor is less taxed, and it may call the drivers differently.
Upgrading to MacOS 10.6 might avoid driver problems (that were in 10.5), but hardware issues would remain.
But first you might try disabling OpenGL drawing in preferences (avoiding the most problematic drivers, and reducing the load in the graphics hardware).

  • PEN TOOL DOESN'T WORK ANY MORE after PS 2014.2 update!

I just downloaded the latest Photoshop update.  Pretty slick......adjustable fonts in the dropdown menus again.....nice guide improvements.  One little problem....THE PEN TOOL DOESN'T WORK ANY MORE.  The program is totally useless.  What the h%+l is wrong with adobe?  At least I can still use Photoshop CC.  Anyone got a fix for this?

  • Pen tool smoothness

    Hello,
I have been using Illustrator for a while, but still have a lot of the nuances to work out.
The issue I am having is when I either use the calligraphy brush, or the pen tool to create an outline some of my edges look pixelated (i.e. stepped). I used the pen tool to create a pattern around the edge and it looks beautiful and smooth, yet the lettering shape (a chinese symbol) and the circles looks slightly jagged. This may not be an issue when it is blown up larger (the steps become smaller in relation), however it seems more noticeable when  it is at 100% (it is only a small design for printing on an object - 40mm).
I am attaching a screen shot to demonstrate.
You will see the border gradient-shaded pattern is pretty good.
In addition, if I select the outer pattern and then paste it also becomes stepped as well. I need to use this border design for a few designs, but hate to lose the immaculate look.
The weird thing is if I save it as a SVG and open in Inkscape it looks smooth again. I have tried closing and reopening this file but it looks the same, in fact it may even look worse. Also if you notice, the edges almost look white as well.
Thank you for any help with this.
    Rachel

I know you say it is fine and it is fixed but just in case you look in on ths thread again I want to perhaps point out a little problem you might have reproducing this art in probably any form.
Art work when scaled to a smaller dimensional size becomes visually compressed for instance in the screen shots you show the space between some of the circles completely disapear and that will happen even more so when printed.
When drawing art to be scaled down one has to take int consideration this visual effect.
That is you shpould adjust the geometric relationships and weights of the design one for larger reproduction and one or possibly two versions for smaller reproduction.
You mght get away with it at 40 mm though I think if you reconsider the narrower spaces and and djust them and then reduce the size and compare it to a larger version then youy will see that they look more alike then if you just take art that apears fine large and scale it down.

  • Drawing with the Pen tools

This question was posted in response to the following article: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/photoshop/cs/using/WSfd1234e1c4b69f30ea53e41001031ab64-73a0a.h tml

Correction: same issue -- pen tool drawing shows up only on the digital image on the screen. Not when printed. Well sounded like a good theory.
Problem remains: how to get pen tool drawing, made on photographs, to print.

Curt, believe I found the answer:
Create a new blank page, the size of the photograph to be worked on. The blank page is what the pen tool responds to only.
Add the photographic image to the new blank page (same size).
Now you can use the pen tool over the photographic image. When finished drawing, flatten the image with drawing, and print.

Perhaps you are talking about stroking the line?
Set the color and size with brush, then in Path window click on Stroke Path with Brush.
