Pen tool probleempje illustrator / problem illustrator pen tool

Als ik de pen tool selecteer dan verschijnt er meteen kruisje naast. Ik weet nu dat dat "nieuw pad" pen tool optie is.
Maar hoe zet ik dat weer uit?
When I select the pen tool I get the pen with a little star next to it. I know now that that is the "new path" option.
But how do I turned it off and get the regular pen tool again?

That is the regular pen tool. Just start drawing a path and the star will disappear.

    Does it do this all the time, in all documents? Are you using a mouse or digital pen? Sounds like something wrong with the input device. Do you have problems with the other illustrator tools or different programs?

  • Pen Tool Problem With Adobe Illustrator CS4

    Recently, after many years, I finally gave up using AI 9 and started to use AI CS4.
    However I'm having a real problem and it's bugging me. When I start to use the pen tool on CS4, it gives me far too much information and interferes with my concentration. First, all these details in green pop up telling me that something is the path or anchor. Second, there is this horrible grey box next to my pen telling me such things as 'D: 62.54 pts'.
    Could someone please tell me how to deactivate all these appendages and I can just have mmy basic pen back.
    Thanks

    Thank you very much Joe..... Problem solved.
    It was driving me crazy.
    Again, thank you.

  • HELP! Illustrator CS2 pen tool problems

    Hi, All
    new to the forum...great resource...
    I'm having a problem with my CS 2. Specifically my tools are acting weird..
    The pen tool will not allow me to place points where I want them, or adjust the handles with any finesse. When I go to place a point in a certain spot, and click the mouse, a point appears nearby but not where I want it to. Then, when I try to move it, or adjust its handles, it only will go where it wants to...not where I'm telling it to go.
    I can select objects, but cannot place them where I want them!!!! ( I can get close, but no cigar!)
    This is most frustrating!....
    I have re-installed the program.
    I have also restarted the computer.
    I have not trashed my preferences folder....not sure where that is or if that might be the problem.
    Can any of you guys (and gals) help?!?
    many thanks in advance

    DUH!
    Thanks very much JET.....that was exactly it.....though how it got turned on, I dont know....(couldnt have been anything I did!!!) lol

  • Illustrator Pen Tool - Tapered Ends?

    I'm having some problems trying to get tapered ends on my pen lines.
    Here is an example of 3 lines I have drawn.
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v296/Webscar/help.png
    You can see the Tapered end (where the two lines meet) on the line marked "Yes" but the other two lines do not have the same tapered end... I cannot figure out what the difference is...
    I am also trying to taper the ends of the line, currently I have to go to Object > Paths > Outline Stroke; then I have to manually taper the ends... this is Really annoying =(
    Is there any way to get Illustrator to Automatically do this? It would help me out soo much! As I am trying to get an effect similar to this image:
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v296/Webscar/linework.png
    Thank-you very much!

    You can create an ArtBrush thusly:
    1. Ellipse Tool: AltClick. In the resulting dialog, enter the height and width for a small circle with its diameter the thickness you want as the default thickest part of the tapered strokes. (ex: .125")
    2. Convert AnchorPoint Tool: Click the left and right anchorPoints of the ellipse, to retract their handles. Leave the path selected.
    3. Brushes Palette Flyout Menu: New... In the resulting dialog, make sure the direction arrow is pointing rightward. Set Colorization to Hue Shift. Click OK.
    4. Draw a path with any drawing tool. Apply the Brush.
    Such a Brush (and similarly simple ones) can be used to draw the linework of illustrations similar to the example you show. However, pointy "Vs" have to be drawn as two separate paths, because Brushes don't do mitering very well.
    Understand, though, artwork like that in your example are typically done by drawing the linework as closed paths--drawing both sides of the "lines"-- not by "tapered strokes". An ArtBrush like that described above can be useful for drawing the initial sketch, though. Then Expand the Brush strokes, and use path operations to union them where they should join, cross, etc.; then fine-tune the results manually by adjusting anchorPoints and handles.

    It's simple... I want the Illustrator pen tool to ALWAYS make corner annchor points and NEVER smooth.  Right now I have to convert every single one of them, or I have to do a work around every time I draw a line and make one of the handles disappear.  Is there some simple setting out there that will just "make it so?"@

    The video I am watching this guy is just dragging every line to make curves.  And every anchor point is a corner.  He is not switching back and forth between the pen and the anchor points tool, and he is not using the convert points tool.  He draws a curved line and starts another straight line only to curve it with a click and a drag.  It is super efficient, and I could save a world of time if I could figure out what he is doing.

    How do I turn off the alt scroll zoom?
    When I'm in Adobe photoshop and illustrator using the pen tool, alt is utilized for another short cut.  I would like to use the alt command for the pen tool instead of zooming into the screen.

    I tend to select things from left to right and every time I am moving in a downward right diagonal motion during lasso selection I am missing a clear view and I am tending to have a more sloppy selection.  All this does is slow me down since I need to go back and hit those areas again.  The big arrowhead just get's in the way.  The original lasso tool with the thin line and small active point at it's lower left was far better for me.
    I don't like turning the cursors to precise because I like to see the active tool icon where my cursor is and as the icon changes as I hold modifier keys down.  If I am forced to get comfortable with using pricise cursors I guess I will, but man, I've never had to do this in my 15 years of photoshop use...
    I would absolutely LOVE to find a way to get the old lasso icon -- without the arrowhead above it.
    Is there any chance this option could be inlcuded in cursor preferences?  I'd give much thanks, Adobe.

  • Pen Tools in Illustrator has changed

    A program should make it easier to work with after every upgrade. In Illustrator it is every time when we buy an upgrade that it is getting more difficult to work with the program. This time they changed the pen tool. In CS2 we could use a short cut to change the pen tools to add anchor point or to switch between the different pen tools, staying in the standard pen tool. Now every time we have to go back to the menu to change the tool. It adds only an incredible amount of time to work with the program. Why did they change this?

    Larry he did not have the keyboard shortcuts that check box does not effect the command keys, the option key or the - or = key. I read what he wrote very carefully you and James did not read it carefully.
    If he wrote that when he hoover the pen tool over a path or anchor he did not get the plus or minus anchor point tool I would have responded as you and James suggested.
    It was my first thought as well but that was not what Paul wrote. Is that OK?
    Paul
    In the preferences under general there is a option to shut off auto add or minus anchor points it is labeled as Disable Auto Add/Delete. It will not give you the pen tool with the - or + sign if you hoover over a path or anchor point but does not effect the keyboard shortcuts.
    Don't worry about this they are just trying to show me up because they have a thing with life.

    charmi,
    The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

  • Right-click when using pen tool (Illustrator CC 2014)

    Am I imagining it or did I used to be able to right-click to stop drawing with the pen tool?
    How can I do this in Illustrator CC 2014 as it seems a bit frustrating to have to keep pressing P.
    Any suggestions gratefully received

    Thanks Jacob,
    Nothing generally, it just seemed natural to me, sort of like lifting the pen off the paper at the end of a line.
    Also, I am usually holding a glass of wine with the other hand

    No clue. You've provided nearly no information.
    What happens when you tap the P key on the keyboard?

  • Why is Illustrator filling the areas between the paths created by the pen tool?

    First, I am very much a beginner with Illustrator (but have used other vector drawing programs) and always try to find the answer in the 531-page manual before bothering the community.  So my apologies for what is probably a beginner's mistake.
    I am marking up a drawing I imported from a raster file and and have ran Image Trace.  I am trying to draw 2 perpendicular lines with the pen tool.  However, when I complete the second line, it immediately files the space between the two lines with a black triangle.  When I draw a square, same result - instead of a square formed by 4 lines with blank space in the middle, it fills the space with black.
    Why would it do this?  Is there some setting that I need to turn off?  In the past, a pen line just drew a path and didn't create fills.
    I am using Illustrator CC on Windows 8.1 (Surface Pro 2) if that's relevant to anything.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Buzz,
    If i'm understanding correctly it sounds as though you have your colour applied to the fill instead of the stroke. All you have to do whilst having your shape selected or before you draw it is hit the arrow to the top right of that panel for it to switch to the stroke. Then click the white box with the red line through it for no fill in the areas you want no colour.
    I hope that helps!
