Pen Tool Selection Keyboard Shortcut

Hi Sir/Mdm,
I am using Photoshop CS5 and I am humbly seek help and tip to perform a keyboard shortcut to make selection after pen tool has traced the image. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Here's one way:
Choose Edit - Keyboard Shortcuts
Choose Shortcuts For: Panel Menus
Expand the Paths section
Click on Make Selection... and press the key you want assigned.
When you use this key I believe it will cause a dialog to open, which you can confirm with the Enter key.
If you want to do it without any prompt at all it can probably be done through creation of an action.

  • Photoshop CS5 Pen tool Selection problem?

I've been using photoshop for a while, and have never encountered this problem. I've had CS5 for about a year now and this is the first time it has done this, so hopefully someone can help me!
When I open photoshop, everything works. I make a new layer, go to use the pen tool,  make my shape and then complete it, and the line solidifies showing its a complete shape. I right click, and select the option: Make Selection.
Instead of turning the inside of the shape into the selected part, it selects everything outside of it!
I can't for the life of me figure out how this started happening, as it didn't do it a few days ago. I must have hit a button or something, but its still very annoying. Hopefully someone can help! Restarting both the program and the computer, does not help.

There's a button for that up in the options area, when a Path Tool is active.    It's been a while...  Ah, here:
I'm betting you have the one next to it pressed.
Look at your path icons in the PATHS panel.  If they're white inside, you're creating an enclosed path.  If they're gray inside with a white surround, you're removing a path from the surroundings.

  • Pen tool selection acting strange

So, lately Photoshop has been getting into the habbit of erasing my tool's settings.  The latest in such events is the Pen Tool.  After I trace a path around an image like the one below, I right click and choose "Make Selection".  To my horror, I find that it only outlines the selection and it completely ignores the path's i traced along the inside of the image.
In this example, I traced the stethoscope so as to isolate it from the background.  When I choose "Make Selection", it only creates a selection around the stethoscope.  See?  There are no marching ants inside of the loops!
i'm sure there is a simple solution to this, but for the life of me, I can't figure out what setting to choose.

In the far right line of the pen tool do you have the correct option?  Exclude overlapping paths?

  • Transforming pen tool selections into marching ants

I have a PS issue that is bewildering to me:
I am creating a mask for a purse that has a chain link strap. I used the pen tool to make a selection around the outside. Then, I made a second selection on the inside part of the strap. Next, I went to paths and loaded the selection so that I can transform it into a mask.
The outside selection loaded just fine, and is currently part of my mask.
I still have the pen tool line around the inside of my purse strap, but I cannot get it to load into marching ants.
Is there something I am missing?
    Thanks!
    Ellen

After you make the paths select the path selection tool and set the option to Exclude Overlapping Shape Areas, then the complete
paths should load as a selection.

  • Transition Select Keyboard Shortcut

    Hello All
This might seem like a petty issue, but I really want a way of selecting a transition (note, not an edit) using the keyboard. You can:
    a) select an edit to apply a transition to using the keyboard (v)
    b) create a transition using a shortcut (Apple-T or Apple-Shift-T)
    c) specify whether the transition is centre, start or end on cut using a shortcut (Option 1, 2 or 3)
    d) specify the length of the transition using a shortcut (Control-D)
but to use c) and d) you first need to select the transition which requires... ...the mouse! Aaaargh!
This is surely madness - there must be some way of selecting a transition using the keyboard, even if it's a silly workaround. Can anyone help me?
    John Gallagher

you have to place the transition in your favorites folder in the top of your effects browser. Then you can use the shortcut key to apply the transition. Look inthe effects menu at the top of the screen after you place a transition in the folder and you will see the keyboard shortcut for that transition. You can also use the last transition shortcut if you place the same one all the time. That is the first option when you click on effects from the menu.

  • Pen tool shortcut request

The new way shape layers work is great. Good improvments to the vector tools in photoshop. Could the pen tool gain the shortcut in illustrator that allows you to tweek the placement of a point just after clicking (before click up) by holding space bar? I find this subtle feature very useful when traceing over raster work. It saves time by letting you place the point right the first time and not needing to hotkey back and forth between direct select and pen. Thanks for you time.

Yes, that would be handy, wouldn't it. I'll add that to the wish list...
    Thanks

  • Assigning a new keyboard shortcut that isn't default

In CS4, I'd like to to assign a keyboard shortcut to the
"Smooth" tool (which comes up when you click pointer.) How can I do
this? When I click on Tools Panel in the Keyboard Shortcut menu, it
isn't an option and it also isn't listed in the Customize Tools
menu. I figuring, if I replace one of the available tools with the
smooth tool (again, not the one associated with pencil, but the one
that appears when you click pointer), I can do it. But how can I
replace or add to the available tools?
    I'm using a mac, tiger 10.11.4
    Thanks

Sorry for such a slow response.  I've been up to my eyeballs in work recently! (not a bad thing).  Thanks Ronin for your help.  I did have a look at that link and there is some useful stuff there.
As it turns out I solved the problem another way.  All I had to do was clear my synced settings and then re-sync!! can you believe that!  Now when I select keyboard shortcuts from the menu the window pops up and I can customize away.  Before, nothing happened when I selected keyboard shortcuts from the drop down menu!
Maybe it's a weird solo bug that only happened to me, I hope no one else suffers this infuriating thing!
    Cheers

  • Ctrl not working with Pen Tool - Can't move shapes or paths

I have Windows 8 and Photoshop CS3. It works fine, but I accidentally must have messed something up earlier tonight, because holding down Ctrl (when using the pen tool) suddenly won't let me move shapes or paths. I work a lot with vector graphics and design so I've ALWAYS held down Ctrl after closing a path and then moved it around on the canvas. The cursor turns black when I do this. Now, it's white and tries to select nothing? If I click directly on the path, it just alters the handlebars. And the Move Tool tells me I can't select anything.
This is what it looks like when I hold down Ctrl when using the pen tool and try to move my path. I cannot select it.
Please help me, I have a project due and the only way I can move my paths or shapes now is by clicking ctrl+t and it's very annoying.
    Thanks in advance.

What you describe is how it works with one of the Shape Tools selected in the toolbox.
With the Pen Tool selected, one presses the Ctrl key, drags around the path to select all the points and then click and drag on one of the sides (not one of the points) to move the whole path.

  • Pen Tool and New to Pro

What is the purpose of the pen tool in CS5.5?
Also I had Sony Pro and you can slice out a object in it. Can you do this in CS5.5?

    Tools
    Pen Tool
Select this tool to set or select keyframes, or to adjust connector lines in a Timeline. Drag a connector line vertically to adjust it. Ctrl-click (Windows) or Command-click (Mac OS) on a connector line to set a keyframe. Shift-click noncontiguous keyframes to select them. Drag a marquee over contiguous keyframes to select them. For more information about using the Pen Tool, see Select keyframes.

  • Why are my keyboard shortcuts all of a sudden not working? Even in Photoshop?!

My keyboard shortcuts are not working. I noticed it first when I tried to Command+Tab my way through my open applications. Stumped. Any thoughts?

    Hello Ronald,
I'm a bit unclear on the exact scope of the issue you are describing. Is it affecting just selected keyboard shortcuts, or all keyboard shortcuts? You may want to see if any keyboard shortcut conflicts are showing, as noted in the following article:
OS X Lion: If a keyboard shortcut doesn’t work
You may also want to test some of the other system shortcuts, as noted in this article:

  • Keyboard Shortcut conflict

    Hi-
I'm working a lot with Flash 8. A common command is "Publish". The shortcut for this is Shift+F12...which is also the shortcut to launch Dashboard (in slow motion...no kidding).
I went to System Prefs/Keyboard Shortcuts, found Dashboard and unchecked it so it wouldn't launch on F12. There was no place to disable Shift+F12.
I did the steps to add Shift+F12 for Flash 8. Quit and restarted Flash but got the same slo-mo Dashboard. I tried adding the command while Flash was running and not running.
Is there a way for me to get Dashboard to give up the Shift+F12 shortcut so that Flash can have it??
    TIA your help,
    Josh

I found the answer within Flash8. On the top menu, under Flash8 select "Keyboard Shortcuts". The Keyboard Shortcut window opens with the entire collection of established default shortcuts in nauseating detail..First make a duplicate of the default shortcut set and rename it. This is a one-click operation, the first icon to the right of the "Current set" drop down menu. Then find the command you want to change by first selecting a category from the "Commands" drop down menu and then from the resulting list. Select the command, hit "-" (minus) to delete the old keyboard shortcut, hit "+" and make your own. Then click "Change" button. I use the "full fist plus" combination for all of my changes (shiftoption+command an alphaNumeric) If there's a conflict within Flash, Flash will tell you immediately. Otherwise you are there.
    Good luck.
    This quest is over.

  • Finder Label or Tag Keyboard Shortcut

ive found out a solution to do something i always had a question about. here is a way to set a keyboard shortcut to label or tag an item in Finder.
open Automator and create a new Service.
set your input to be files or folders in Finder.
drag in the action Label Finder Items and choose the color. Save the Service.
open system preferences, go to keyboard, select keyboard shortcuts, and choose Services.
scroll down to find the labeling service you created and assign a key command to it.
select some files and folders and start key commanding your labels and tags.
each color will need its own service from automator.

Cool!!!  Ive been trying to do this since I started with Mavericks.  Saw several descriptions of how-to-do, and none worked.  Your description was the first that worked for me.  Thanks!
