Penalise Heavy Users who already pay extra for mor...

I've just had a mail telling me I've reached 80mb and my speed will be limited to 1mbs for 30 days if I go over 100.
I've read all the posts about fair use policy etc etc and speed warnings so I know this is not new news.
But what gets me is that for "unlimited" use (well, max 100gb) I pay extra per month. I will not be surcharged if I go over, but I'll have my speeds restricted for a month. Option 3 is advertised as ideal for heavy users - and GAMERS.
Online gamers need the speed to be able to hold connection to the game servers. The game I play (Age of Conan) isn't even supported by BT so I had to find out the port numbers for it and open them on the router myself.
This month, my HDD failed. Before we realised it's problem was fatal, we re-downloaded our online games. Then, after replacing the HDD, had to re-download them again. This has likely pushed us over the limit. It was an exceptional event, but the person I spoke to said it made no difference. When I asked for a contact address to explain/appeal to, he said there was no point, as there was no appeal and the speed restriction was automatic.
I challenged him about the speed restriction as I have consistently suffered restrictions at peak times - it's blindingly obvious BT do it, because I lose connection, or my latency goes sky high within minutes of hitting 7pm.
The person's response was basically that I, a minority heavy user, needed to give preference to all the websurfers & should expect to be restricted at peak times.
I'M JUST A NORMAL PERSON THAT BOUGHT A GAME IN A SHOP - THAT PAYS EXTRA FOR MY BROADBAND, AND EXPECTS A DECENT BANDWIDTH TO PLAY THE GAME WITH. IT'S WHAT I PAY B.T. FOR.
I AM YOUR CUSTOMER, B.T, NOT THE OTHER WAY ROUND.
I'm going to get my MAC code tomorrow, I've had enough of the daily fights with an Indian call centre, that have the cheek to tell me I should play my game in the mornings!!!!!!!

I know you're both right but that still doesn't excuse their arrogant behaviour, and their assumption that i am some kind of minor criminal just because I like to play an online game rather than spend all night on facebook
On a side note - do you think if they "restrict" me to 1mbs my connection will improve?
It's been pretty bad till now, if they could guarantee 1mbs for a month, I'd probably be better off.......

iTunes Plus is the name for the option in iTunes that allows customers to buy music at the iTunes Store that is free from digital rights management, or DRM.
Digital Rights Management, or DRM, is designed to prevent unauthorized sharing of files. This especially became a big concern for the music industry after the rise of Napster, Limewire, and Kazaa.
DRM, even the DRM used by Apple on iTunes Store content, prevented that. Apple's DRM allowed users to share files on only up to 5 computers.
According to TUAW, the new iTunes Plus songs have information embedded in them that identifies the user who bought and shared them by name.
This means that if you share your music and record companies want to track you down and sue for you copyright infringement, it's going to be easy.
This may help you understand why you would need iTunes Plus - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1711.
It may be that Android required that type of file to be able to let it sync.  See here - http://developer.android.com/guide/appendix/media-formats.html.

  • Creating multiple mailboxes using Powershell for users who already exist in AD

    Hi there,
Wondering if anyone can help, I am wanting to use Powershell to run a command which references a CSV file to create a mailbox for a user who already exists in AD.
It needs to reference the username, to ensure the correct user has a mailbox created (as mentioned they exist already in the domain), place them on a specific database (e.g DB1) and assign them an email address as well as possibly an alias email address
    too.
Can anyone provide me the headings of the CSV file which would be needed as well as the powershell command to run. It would be great too if I could also set the quota sizes for the user at the same time of creating the mailbox, but if not possible or complicated
I can run a script afterwards to do this. I would only want to warn them when their mailbox is 1.5GB in size and stop them sending when it reaches 2GB.
    Thanks

So create a csv file with the following headers and data
    UserID, Alias
UserID should be the user SamAccountName, and the Alias is the Mailbox Alias that you want to set. Supposing that the csv file is named users.csv and located under C:\ , open the Exchange Management Console and run:
    $users = Import-Csv c:\users.csv
    Foreach ($user in $users) {
    Enable-Mailbox -Identity $user.UserID -alias $user.alias -database 'DB1'
    Set-Mailbox -Identity $user.UserID -IssueWarningQuota 1.5gb -ProhibitSendQuota 2gb

Why do we have to pay extra for forms central notifications? Very greed!

    Hi;
The Free offering of FormsCentral provides users with a lot of useful features.  There has to be a line somewhere for the subscription level service and Email Receipts and Notifications are part of that premium service.
This table shows features you have in the Free version and what the two paid subsctiptions add: https://www.acrobat.com/formscentral/en/features/compare-plans.html

I've downloaded Photoshop CC 2014 on my desktop computer. But its telling me that its a 30 day trial. I already pay monthly for Creative Cloud CC. Btw, earlier this evening I upgraded my laptop to CC 2014. Is that the problem? I thought we could have the program on two different computers, as long as they're the same user and not being used at the same time.

  • Will Apple let me trade in my Iphone 3GS and let me pay extra for a Iphone 4S

Will Apple let me trade in my Iphone 3GS and let me pay extra for a Iphone 4S

As the others have said, Apple does not take trade-ins. In a few countries, however, Apple does work with a company who will give you some return on an existing device; for the US, see:
    http://www.apple.com/recycling/gift-card/
Similar programs are available in a few other countries, and some dealers may have their own trade-in programs. But you most probably can get more for your iPhone 3GS if you sell it yourself.
    Regards.

Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
    iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Then reboot. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of your data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
If you're using Time Machine to back up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of files you've recently deleted. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as "Backups." The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself.
To locate large files, you can use Spotlight. That method may not find large folders that contain a lot of small files.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
Deleting files inside an iPhoto or Aperture library will corrupt the library. Any changes to a photo library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click the line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders. It may take some minutes for ODS to list all the files.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal.

  • Is NI-IMAQ already a feature of LabVIEW, or do you have to pay extra for it?

We would like to add video & still shots to some of our programs, probably via CCTV or CCD cameras & NTSC signals.
I have found a few card manufacturers who provide LabVIEW drivers, but they all seem to require something called "NI-IMAQ". I have spent quite a while now searching & googling, but I can't figure out whether "NI-IMAQ" is already a part of LabVIEW, or whether it is an add-on that we will have to purchase from NI.
This was about all I could find in LabVIEW Help:
VI and Function Reference | NI Measurements VIs and Functions | Motion & Vision VIs and Functions
Motion & Vision VIs and Functions
Refer to the IMAQ Vision, NI-IMAQ, FlexMotion, and ValueMotion help files, which you can access from the Help menu, for more information about those VIs. If NI-IMAQ, FlexMotion, and ValueMotion are not installed, you cannot access their help files. Install these additional packages by selecting the Custom option during installation. You must purchase IMAQ Vision separately.
Use the IMAQ Vision VIs to analyze images using a variety of techniques, such as pattern matching, blob analysis, and gauging.
Use the NI-IMAQ VIs with National Instruments IMAQ devices to acquire and display images.
Use the FlexMotion VIs with FlexMotion controllers to deliver high-performance motion for servo and stepper applications.
Use the ValueMotion VIs with ValueMotion controllers to deliver general-purpose motion for stepper applications.
It sounds to me as though "NI-IMAQ" is already part of LabVIEW, but that maybe my development environment wasn't installed properly. [I didn't install it myself, and the master CD-ROM is off-site.]
    Thanks!

NI-IMAQ is the driver software that allows you to configure the image acquisition boards. This is to configure National Instruments image acquisition boards. If you have third party image acquisition hardware then you would need their drivers and if those drivers provide dlls or controls to be used in LabVIEW then you will be able to configure your acquisition in labview.
I downloaded Pete Parente's "LabVIEW Webcam" software the other day, and, as far as I could tell, it looked like he would be producing his NTSC video feeds by essentially writing individual frames to some sort of "Picture" control about 30 times a second [I couldn't get his VIs to work, but I'm guessing that's how they're supposed to work].
So now I'm wondering whether LabVIEW provides some sort of a graphical control [or family of controls] that allows for "streaming" or "NTSC/PAL" video to be displayed in a LabVIEW window. If there is such a control [or family of controls], well, I just spent about a day Googling and searching LabVIEW help, and I couldn't find it [although, as I indicated above, my development environment might not have been installed properly on this machine].
And if it's not the case that LabVIEW provides such a control [or family of controls], then my next question would be: What do you need in order to write your own homemade controls for LabVIEW? I.e. who sells an Integrated Development Environment [IDE] for writing LabVIEW controls?

  • Do I have to pay extra for microsoft exchange email?

I checked out the ATT website and wasn't clear about this. For enterprise, it's $45/month.
When I signed up for my iPhone, I purchased the standard $30/month data plan, so I didn't think it would allow me to use the Microsoft exchange option when setting up email accounts. I thought I would give it a try and when it got to a point that said I needed to pay extra or couldn't go ahead without adding the Enterprise feature, I was just going to stop there. Interestingly, microsoft exchange worked perfectly. I checked my ATT account and there hasn't been any new charges added to my account. My 2 part question is 1) is microsoft exchange part of the standard data plan 2) if it's not, do you guys think I'll eventually have a new charge on my att account? You should know that I have a corporate discount. Not sure if that's a factor.

Im not in the US so couldnt comment on the AT&T, however, if you have any kind of dataconnection, then theres nothing AT&T could do to stop the activesync as its HTTPS based usually to a private server address..
I expect that they add the data costs because of the "anticipated" extra data usage... so just watch you dont get stung there.

  • Setting Up Mobile Accounts to For Users Who Already Exist

    Hi there,
I work for a company with about 10 Macs, all laptops, all are on 10.5.
They have never had a server and have asked me to set one up for them. I am in the process of setting up a server here with a new copy of OS X Server 10.5. Here's my question.
The people here are half-wits and any kind of backup which involves them, you know, actually doing anything is never going to happen.
My thought was to set up Mobile accounts for all of them s this provides seamless syncing and no issues if they leave their office, The problem seems to be to set up a mobile account seems to require a new user where all the people here already have home folders/stuff on their personal laptops (we don't share computers). The user I create on Open Directory seem, even if i give them the same details of the current user on their laptops, to be different. Is there a way to make this work or should I just make them all Time Machine backups to the server instead?
    Thanks,
    Ben

  • Is it a good idea to only save my photos on iCloud Drive instead of paying extra for phone storage?

I'd rather not pay too much for extra storage space when I buy my phone and I am willing to pay 0.99 cents per month for iCloud Drive.

Given all the issues people are having right now with iCloud Drive you would be better off waiting for iCloud photo library to be introduced later this year.  It's designed for allow you to keep your photos in iCloud without having to store them all on your phone.  Besides, you have to use iCloud Drive compatible apps to access documents and data on your iCloud Drive, and as far as I know, there aren't any such apps to access or store photos there from your iOS devices yet.
