Pencil icon crossed out

Hi I am trying to ftp using go>connect to server. I can access the server but it won't allow me to do anything else.
There is a pencil in the bottom right hand corner crossed out, does this have anything to do with it?

Well that is really weird because a few days before it allowed me to upload 2 files. It was only when I tried to delete them that I noticed it wouldn't allow me to and also would no longer allow me to upload files either.
Mmm strange. Obviously something has changed but I don't know what.

Purchased Apps Icon Crossed Out

I recently had to restore Mountain Lion OS from the recovery partition.
Now some of the apps that I purchased from the App store, such as Aperture, have a crossed out icon. When I go to the App Store application and select "Purchases" it shows Aperture as installed yet I can not launch Aperture. The icon for the Aperture app is crossed out. The App store will not let me reinstall it.
I used the Disk Utility to repair permissions but the icon is still crossed out and the app does not launch.
Some other programs such as iMovie and Garageband also had their icons crossed out but I was able to reinstall them through the App Store.
How can I get Aperture back?

That means that you have Aperture on the hard drive. If you have an external drive connected, disconnect it. Then, check where Aperture could be. To do it, press Command and Space keys, and type "Aperture" in the Spotlight popup, so it will search Aperture on the hard disk. If it finds the the folder, hold Option and Command keys, so the location will show up below the preview. Just go to that folder and delete Aperture.
Finally, open App Store > Purchases and install Aperture

Pencil icon grayed out on PDF

I have received a PDF file for my taxes. I have downloaded to adobe. When I go to PDF and tap once to get menu for pencil icon it is grated out. I am unable to add info.

It might be possible that the document on which you are trying to add annots is a protected document.
Could you please, is there any lock icon visible after opening the document on bottom right side ?

Photo Booth Camera Icon Crossed Out

I have one of the most recent MacBooks. All of a sudden Photo Booth isn't working. There's a crossed out camera icon and I can't take pictures. How do I get it back?

First thing to do is reset PRAM
■ Shut down your computer. Turn the computer back on and immediately hold down Command-Option-P-R, continuing to press until you hear the startup sound for the second time. This resets the computer’s parameter random-access memory (PRAM).
IMPORTANT: Resetting PRAM may change some system settings and preferences. Use System Preferences to restore your settings.

Update absence pencil icon greyed out

Hi,
I have 12.1.1 installed. On the absence management self service page --> the absences applied have update/delete greyed out.
This is the case for all statuses, be it submitted or approved or pending approval.
how can the update pencil icon be enabled?
this is happening for ESS and MSS

Okay, so for the benefit of others this request is basically about updating absences in the past, which is currently disallowed in SSHR LOA.
Enhancement 10194304 is about allowing update for historical absences:

Firefox did not launch. I downloaded new one. the icon is crossed out. how can I fix this?

I'm on a Mac OS X (power pc)
After restarting my computer today. Firefox did not launch. I clicked on the icon, it started to initiate and then stopped before anything happened.
To try to fix the problem, I trashed the application and downloaded a new one. It gave me a message: "The application Firefox cannot be launched -10661."
I retried the download and the second time, the Firefox application icon has been crossed out. That is it has a circle with a slash over it. Same message comes up.

New Added Applications Icons = White "Crossed out" symbol...

This is a bit of a minor annoyance, but I wanted to see how the community was dealing with this....
I find it helpful to have an Alias for "Applications" in my dock -- to the right of the divider. I like to sort it by "Most recently added", so that I'll have the newest application on top of the stack. I realize that the applications have the "universal symbol for 'not'" -- a generic mac icon with a white crossed-out symbol -- because the app hasn't been permissioned yet. i.e. I copied it to the Applications folder but just didn't run it yet. After I run it, I drag the icon out of Applications and then back in the folder and it changes to the real icon.
This is a true first world problem -- but I just wanted to see if anyone else deals with this and how you work your way around it. (Not such a big deal to just drag the icon and add it back. It's just annoying and looks dumb.) Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

For me, the crossed-out icon disappears once I've launched the application once and answered yes to the warning whether I want to launch an application that has been downloaded from the internet.
I don't know if trashing the Dock preferences would help?

HT3819 When I sync my iPod some of my purchases from iTunes transfer, but some do not. When I try to drag the songs onto the iPod icon it shows the 'crossed out' symbol and won't move them.

I've tried synching from multiple computers that are all connected with home sharing but it still didn't do the trick.

Installing iTunes does not cause content to magically appear on the computer.
Your media is only where you put it.
iOS devices are not backup devices.
Copy the media from the old computer to the new computer.

Why are some of my icons in my application folder crossed out?

I know its because i have not installed it yet, but after i do it still has it crossed out, to fix it i move the application to the desk top then back to the application folder. Is there some other way to do this? or does it change after a while on its own.

Reboot your Mac and they should show up normal then.

Crossed-out signs over two application icons

I have an Intel iMac running OS X 10.6.8. Two applications, iTunes and iPhoto, have white crossed-out signs over them. Does anyone have any idea why this is? I've restarted the computer and done a software-update and they're still crossed-out, although both are working just fine.

Are you running in an admin account?
In Finder do a Get Info on those 2 Apps & see if they're Locked or what rights it says you have.

Utilities Applications grayed and crossed out, "No longer supported"?

Originally I wanted to Verify and Repair my Disk Permissions since I've been having difficulty with my disk drive [playing the Sims 3, it told me that there was an error in the Disk Authorization and that the disk was not found in the drive]. Following the instructions on the Sims 3 site to fix this problem, one solution would work then it would fail again so I continued down the line of fixes until it told me that "Its possible you might be experiencing some damage in your permissions or an issue with your start up disk please follow these steps below." Then proceeded to tell me how to verify and eventually repair which entailed going to the Utilities folder and opening the app "Disk Utility". But when I got to the Utilites folder I found that all of the application icons where grayed out and crossed out in white. When I attempted to open any app a window would tell me, "You can't open the application <app name> because PowerPC applications are no longer supported.
Now I found a question/discussion nearly identical to this, only it was in the Leopard discussions, and I obviously have Lion. I have no idea what to do at this point, I just want my Mac to work for once and let me play my **** Sims.
If it helps, I have a MacBook Pro, mid 2007, with many different applications installed, I recieved it as a hand-me-down two years ago and I'm not so familiar with all of the applications, so I couldn't begin to tell you what exactly is on here.

This is for my wife's 32 bit Ubuntu laptop. Both it and Skype are up to date as of right now.
I just got a Logitech Webcam Pro 9000 for her. I plugged it in and Cheese recognized it immediately, but wouldn't show up in Skype Video Options.
I edited the Skype file as recommended in the threads here and the camera showed up in Skype Video Options.
But when I make a call the camera icon in Skype is still crossed out. The person I'm calling doesn't currently have a camera, but if the camera icon weren't crossed out they should be able to see my camera, right.
Hey Skype! This is way too much trouble!

Having similar issue; webcam is recognized and functions under "Options" but have no "Video Call" button to make a video call. Skype only displays txt and voice call buttons. Contacts are online and have video. Contacts see me as online and with video, and can even "Video Call" me but cannot see me; I see and hear them fine, but they cannot see me.
Problem experienced on an HP Compaq Pasario running Ubuntu 10.04.1, 12.04.1, and finally Mint 14.1 (both cinnamon and mate) with all software packages updated and current. Spent the entire day yesterday going through fresh installs and setup trying each separately with the same result every time; webcam is recognized and functions under "Options" but have no "Video Call" button to make a video call.
Camera being used is a Logitech c270h which works great with Skype on two other PCs (Dell Laptop, Dell Tower) one running Ubuntu 10.04.1 and 12.04.1 (both LTS).

Mail app is crossed out in my Time Machine back up so I can't restore any of my emails. Does anyone have experience with this?

I was having problems with my trackpad on my MacBook and it was also running slowly, so in addition to replacing the track pad, I had them cleanout my system. When I went to restore using my TimeMachine back up, my Mail and Address Book didn't restore. When I tried to access the apps through the TimeMachine backup, they are crossed out. All my work emails and contacts are gone! Has anyone had any experience with this? Any and all help would be appreciated.

Canon MP780 Color Option, Quality and Media, etc crossed out for SOME apps

I have a Canon MP 780 attached to an old G4 macbook (running 10.4.11) that I'm using as a print server via printer sharing. I'm sending print jobs from a MBPro 2.4 GHz Core Duo running Snow Leopard (10.6.2)
Before I updated to Snow Leopard, all the MP 780 printer functions worked perfectly. Now the Color Options, Quality and Media, Duplex Printing, Special Effects, Borderless Printing and Duplex Printing are crossed out for some application, but not for others. For example, I can print in Duplex from Microsoft Word and Pages, but not from Preview or Safari.
If I do the print job directly from the old MB that's acting as the print server, all the options are available, so this seems to be related to either Snow Leopard or printer sharing.
I have downloaded and installed all the latest drives/software I could find in the CanonUSA website.
Any thoughts on how to get these print services up and running for all my applications?

Hello Pete,
What you are seeing is a result of using a 32bit driver when using a 64bit application. Preview and Safari are 64bit, while MS Word and Pages are 32bit.
The solution is to use a driver that is written for 64bit (or more so the plugins used with the driver, such as Quality & Media, are 64bit). However, checking the Canon web site, there does not appear to be a 64bit driver available for your model.
So, you could look at forcing the 64bit apps, like Preview and Safari, to open in 32bit mode. With the application closed, find its icon in Finder > Application. Select it and perform a Get Info (File > Get Info or Command I). The Info window that appears will have a button that shows 'Open in 32-bit mode'. Tick this checkbox, close the Info window and then open the application. Now you should find that the Canon plugins such as Quality & Media should be available without the line through them.

Excise invoice utilization pencil icon is showing non display mode

when i create export invoice and when i create excise invoice with an go for utilization that pencil icon is showing in non display mode because if i want to change this bond,no bond, deemed export,Lou then it is not happening. I maintain configuration for that in default excise group and series group i maintained Export Under bond to specific sales area and excise group,series group and shipping point also.
but i cannot change to bond.no bond.Lou.and deemed export as per the requirement. if any solution please answer me asap

We cannot change this field from display to change. Once the excise invoice is captured the excise invoice number is freezed.
It is SAP Standard & to break this you would need the access key from SAP.
If the change in excise invoice number is by user mistake, please cancel the excise invocie and capture the new one.
