Pencil mouse as opposed to track mouse?

I have been having a lot of problems with stressed muscles due to the use of my regular mouse. i am in the market for a new mouse. I was wondering if anyone has used the pencil mouse and what you think about it?

There are some reviews about the few pen-like mouse products available, online.
Ones I'd noticed were from a year or two ago, hard to say if they were a hit or not.
https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=stylus+mouse
Some time ago, I had a rollerball that did OK, it was like a 'billiard ball' though.
At least it did not run out of desktop space and never ran into anything nearby.
For persons who get tired fingers from writing by hand (remember that?) these
stylus mouse pen mouse products could still lead to that kind of effect, even if
you don't mind writing with a large marking pen effect; or a giant kids crayon.
One of the cordless wireless pen mouse products had a customer followup review
and they suggested buying a big box of batteries (AAs) as it used a battery a week.
They did not allude to the kind or type of battery recommended, as there are some
that should last longer than a week; but they cost more. The unit in question did not
appear to use re-chargeable batteries; but they may if correct voltage is available.
And then, there are styli and tablet models; these are generally finer than pen mouse
and may be an alternative to a mouse, to give your hands a break, if it'd work for you.
Perhaps a step above an iPad and a finger, for freehand, with less of a crayon effect.
There are a few items I'd noticed in the search result link above; Genius Pen mouse,
the G-stick mouse, and others that are either stylus/tablet or a styli for iPad, etc. I'd
seen some good things done with the tablet idea, mostly detailed quality renderings.
Hopefully you can find something from somewhare that has a fair return policy so you
can give it a few days test drive. Or a few hundred hours with some gallons of coffee.
In any event...
Good luck & happy computing!

I want to be sure we are on the same page. Go to system preferences>Bluetooth. Is the only entry your mouse? Go to system preferences>keyboard & mouse>bluetooth. Is your mouse the only entry?
If that all appears normal, try a couple of things (I am fishing a bit):
Go to your home folder (~library>preferences) and trash:
    com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    com.apple.bezelservices.plist
Then go to MacintoshHD>library>preferences and trash:

Then restart and see if that helps.
Next, I would reset the PRAM:

  • Mighty Mouse Trackball won't track

I have a Mighty Mouse whose trackball all of a sudden won’t track ”UP“… down YES but UP No!
This Mouse worked just fine for about 6 months, then no UP.
    How Come???
    Model Number: A1152
    P/N: KY556018MVU3MC
Is there any way of cleaning them inside without doing any damage? How do you get them open?

Re: Mighty Mouse Trackball won’t track… Now it does!!!!! and just fine.
What I did was to get some ”Electrical Contact Cleaner“ and spray some directly inside the mouse by spraying past the little mouse ball on top. Upside down, right side up, tilting in all directions and turning the ball back and forth vigorously. Well low and behold it started to move the pointer in both directions. Slowly at first then with more and more responsiveness the pointer came back to life. Then it quit for awhile! This I have determined to be caused by excess cleaner making the rollers a little slippery. But in 5 minutes the excess fluid had evaporated and the mouse now works perfectly! End of story except to quote the ”Electrical Contact Cleaner“ label. It reads as follows…,Removes oil & other films from electrical contacts, connectors & switches. Leaves no residue. Safe on most plastics. End of quote.
So there you have it. Thanks to all who responded and I hope this helps the rest of you who are having trouble with your mouse balls.

  • Pressing mouse wheel (or Ctrl + Left Mouse Click) on navigation arrows does not open previous/next page in new tab anymore

I am using the new Firefox Developer Edition as a stand-alone on Ubuntu, so I can still use the "old" version, too.
Everything seems to be working fine, as in I am logged in and setup sync. But a few features I got very much used to are no longer working.
When I click on "About Firefox Developer Edition", it shows these details:
    Firefox Developer Edition 36.0a2 (2014-12-09)
Firefox Developer Edition is up to date
You are currently on the aurora update channel.
In my "old" Firefox, I can:
    1. Click with the mouse wheel on the navigation arrows to open the previous or next page in a new tab.
    2. "right mouse click" on the navigation arrows to see the list of previously visited pages of the current tab, and the ones I visited after the page I am on, if I clicked "back" once or more times. I can then click the mouse wheel or "Ctrl + Left Mouse Button" to open any of the pages in the list in a new tab.
None of this works in the Developer Edition.

To clarify, the list of previously or later visited pages does still show up when I right click on the navigation arrows in the Developer Version, but I cannot open any of the links in the list in a new tab with the mouse wheel or "Ctrl + Left Mouse Click".

  • I can no longer scroll anywhere on the page by clicking on the red mouse pointer and the middle mouse tab on the laptop

Prior to upgrading to version 4 of Firefox, I was able to scroll anywhere on a page by holding the red mouse button and the middle mouse tab on my laptop. Now, in order to scroll on a page, I need to click on the sliding bar at the right of the page whereas, I was able to do both before the upgrade.

Since today the scrolling started to work for me. Was there a fix auto installed? I havent updated anything that I know about.

I have an apple magic mouse, sometimes when I slide mouse up to the left my whole window is enlarged.  How do I put window back to normal size

Got confused between your header question about a wired mouse and the main question about a wireless mouse.  You said your magic mouse was frozen and added you do not have a wireless mouse.   Problem is ... the magic mouse is wireless.   The original mighty mouse was the corded version.
The wired mouse is a regular problem.  After two to three years it tends to clog up. You can clean it (to a degree) as follows.
Using an alcohol moistened, not wet, cotton bud, scratch at the mouse ball for a minute or so.   Then turn it upside down and on a clean piece of thick white paper or card on a firm surface, vigorously rub the mouse ball on the paper in a regular figure of eight.  Do this for a minute or so and occasionally tap the mouse on the paper.   This will help dislodge bits of fluff etc.   Then try again

  • Tracking Mouse X,Y w/o mouseListener

I am writing a program where you draw with a paintbrush, you begin a stroke by clicking, you end a stroke by releasing. This was easily taken care of by a simple mouseListener. However I want to track everywhere the mouse goes while the mouse is clicking. This way you could draw squigley lines and things with curves rather than just a straight line connecting click location with release location. Unfortunately I have no clue how to get a mouse's X,Y coordinates besides a mouseEvent. Obviously that can't be called without clicking or releasing so I need some help finding out what to do.

  • Keyboard Issues Intermittent Use of Keys & Tracker Mouse

    Hello All,
Look forward to some help please.
Not sure what is wrong, seems there are a number of weridy things going on. Nothing dramatic, but all very annoying.
About a month ago replaced the HD myself, re-installed, everything seemed fine. Then had the following problems.
1 - 'U, J, M' keys stopped working. After PRAM zap were ok.
2 - At a later date the directional 'up & right' keys and the 'Return' stopped working, no explanation just sometimes works with a restart or a complete power down and reboot.
3 - Tracker pad stops working completely then plug in a PC USB mouse and might start working again, might not.
4 - Screen goes black and I have to press the power button to get the machine up again. This is with the power cable plugged in and power on.
I appreciate this machine is oldish but these are strange enough problems, with no consistent reasons for happening that I can think of.
Lastly I got the following message when it went completely south on me.
I'd appreciate any help possible, other forums have not been able to even post a response. Many thanks again.
This morning I had points 2 & 4 happening and had to power down reboot.

    Mike:
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Your, apparently, random keyboard issues may be due to either faulty connection of the keyboard ribbon cable to the logic board, or a defective/damaged ribbon cable. I suggest you go back in and make sure the connection of the ribbon cable to the logic board is secure. If necessary place a new piece of kapton tape on it to secure it.
I further suggest that you boot the computer from the Apple Hardware Test disk that came with your computer, and run the extended tests in a loop (hold down Ctrl + L during tests) and let is run for a while, as intermittent issues may take up to several hours to show up.

  • Mouse intermittent erratic horizontal tracking - Ok with vertical movement.

Periodically(several times a day) my Logitech bluetooth mouse becomes very sluggish. It only does this moving horizontally. Vertical movement is normal. It usually recovers after several seconds but when it happens it is very frustrating. I am using the steermouse program because of previous problems with the Logitech driver.
    Has anyone else experienced this?

It could be a problem with the mouse's optical sensor. I've found that Logitech tracking is far inferior to MightyMouse tracking (on mac or pc) unless you have a good mouse pad.

  • How to adjust the tempo of a project by mouse tools in globe track

I remember I once saw a movie on Apple official web showing how to use the mouse tool to "draw" the tempo in the globe track to catch the tempo of a live recorded project .
It seemed that it's very simple in the movie , but not by using the" adjust the tempo by using the region length and locators" .I remember the guy in the movie just draw some line in somewhere in the globe track and the tempo will change automatic and correctly to catch the percussion audio track ....
But I cannot remember the detail now.. somebody here watched this movie before ?
I try to make it , but I failed all the time ....

  • Track/Mouse Pad Issue

My MacBook has been sitting on my desk for two days....suddenly, the only way I can do a "mouse click" is by tapping the track pad, not by pushing the lower left or right corners. The pad itself at the bottom where the push click would be is actually (for lack of better word) lower than the top and I can no longer actually "click" when I push the lower corners.
    So, two questions...
1.) Is this a common problem?
2.) Is this fixable or am I stuck with a wireless mouse for the rest of the computer's life?

Hi and welcome to Apple discussions,
Is your Macbook one with a removable battery. If it is take the battery out and run it from the mains. Does the track pad work OK now. If it does it probably means that the battery has become distorted or swollen and is affecting the trackpad.
It may be time to get a new battery.
