Pentium 4 vs. Oracle

There was an issue that was posted some time ago about a conflict of Oracle running on Pentium 4. If there is a problem has it been resolved via a patch. If not what are the problems that were identified ?
I am having problems with EXCEPTIONS not being raised when for example WHEN NO_DATA_FOUND etc in triggers when clearly there are no rows returned from an explicit cursor.
Any reply would be appreciated.

The Pentium 4 problem was to do with installing. Your problem sounds nothing to do with using Pentium 4.

I've heard the java virtual m installed during the installation of oracle client manager 8i 1.6 on a Intel Pentium IV is bugy till now we could n't bring it to runn. Is there anyone who has the uptodate Patch or work around for that problem?

I think you would need to contact Oracle support to get the CD's if they're still available. 8.1.6 is desupported.
What kind of errors do you get whne trying to use Crystal with Oracle 8.1.7.4? Perhaps this is an ODBC issue?

Oracle 8i installation problem on Win XP pro, Pentium 4

I am trying to install oracle 8i on Pentium 4 PC, Win XP professional Operating system, 512MB RAM.
When I run setup.exe then it is silent, no response.
I installed java J2SDk1.4.0 standard edition, and Java runtime environment. It is still the same problem.
Would you please let me know what should I do ??

Well
1. Copy the entire contents of your Oracle8i cd into hard disk. The folder can be any name but not "oracle"
2. Do a find files in the local hard disk where oracle files is copied in Step 1. Look for --> jit
3. Rename the file to something like jit_old
4. Run the installer. It should work now.
But better check on web there might be some issues related to java later when u need to install java software into the PC.

Oracle Applications in redhat AS 2.1 with a pentium D

I need to install red hat linux AS 2.1 in a "Pentium D 820 2.8GHz 2x1MB Dual Core" platform to perform the first step in a future migration. The problem is that need to install Oracle Applications 11.0.3 (and is certify up to red hat 2.1)
I'm not sure if exists certification for this platform and OS or if it can work ok.

Can't install Oracle 8i EE 8.1.7 release3 on Pentium 4 machine

Hi folks,
We are upgrading our PCs from Pentium 3 to Pentium 4, but we are having problems with Pentium 4 PCs: we are unable to install Oracle 8i Enterprise edition (8.1.7, release 3) on all our P4 machines (OS Win2000 professional; Gateway Pentium 4; 1.5 GHz speed; 256 MB RAM). Whenever we tried to install Oracle 8i (8.1.7, EE, release 3), its dead after running 3-4 seconds.
We had no problem with Pentium 3 PCs when we installed Oracle.
Have you successfully installed Oracle 8i (8.1.7 E.E r3 ) on you P4 machines? Since our PCs are all Gateway machines, I dont know if its a Gateway issue or an Oracle issue, please help me, thank you very much.

The solution for Intel Pentium 4 and Oracle problems is the following...
1.)
Download JRE v1.1.8_008. Link for it: http://java.sun.com/products/jdk/1.1/jre/download-jre-windows.html
2.)
Install JRE (onto any machine - we only need one file from it), search for the filename "symcjit.dll", and make a copy of it somewhere.
3.)
Now copy the contents of your Oracle CD(s) to a temporary directory on your harddisk. Eg. D:\oracle_install
4.)
Search for the filename "symcjit.dll" in your temporary directory (D:\oracle_install), and replace all instances with the one that you saved in Step No. 2.
5.)
Start the setup from your temporary directory, and all will be fine...

PS: This works for all Oracle products that are using Oracle Universal Installer (that means really all Oracle products... :) )
PS2: Some people think that the Intel P4 problem only concerns Windows 2000 and XP. They are wrong. The older (pre JRE v1.1.8_006) symcjit.dll libraries contain some functions that do not properly identify the Intel P4 processor, and therefor fail... This is a common problem with the old Symantec Java JustInTime Compiler and Intel Pentium 4 CPUs that affects all Oracle products (which use the old libraries) under all Windows operating systems.

Oracle forms 6i (Pentium 4, Win98) "Can not install"

I have a "customized" Oracle interface that was created in Oracle forms 6. I have successfully used this form on Windows 95 Clients but now I must switch to a Windows 98 O/S on a Pentium 4 machine. I actually had to download a special Oracle Installer to install the 8i Client, but I now need to load a newer version of the Forms "run-time" and can not install it from the 6i forms download. Any suggestions would be more than appreciated.

Forms 6i installation in Windows98 should not give any trouble. Hope you
have checked the memory. You should have 128MB memory to install
Forms6i. In Runtime you may not actually require that much of memory but
to install you reuire that (Please see Hardware requirement for Form6i).

Can't load Oracle 8i on Pentium 4

I tried to install Oracle 8i ver 8.1.6 on a pentium 4 machine (HCL infiniti 2000) on Windows 98 O.S, but the Oracle universal installer doesn't start and gave the error.
This program performed Illegal Operation and will be shutdown
error javai.dll pagefault.
I found that this is due to the JVM version provided with Oracle 8i. Pentium 4 supports JVM ver 1.3 & above. where as Oracle 8i comes with JVM 1.1.7.
I can't run Javac onf JDK ver 1.2.1 and in lower versions. but it runs on JDK version 1.3.
plese let me know if any patches available to solve this problem.

Intel says there is a bug in oracle's OUI as well other swing based programs. The solution is to copy the CD to local drive and add -nojit as first parameter to JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS e.g. JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS="-nojit -mx32m"
This will enable OUI to run. Even after installing oracle Net80 conf. asst won't start due to same reason.
Go to HOME\admin\tools\ and edit netca.cl and netasst.cl to add same -nojit before -classpath.
Do this for every tool that gives this prob such DBA studio...

Thanx!. This was the problem i have been experiencing and very frustrated over. I was vesed over it. Thought for sure my java environment was hosed somehow and scoured the install and oracle universal installer docs to see what i was not setting up properly.
The symptoms - i would click on setup.exe, and then nothing comes up. No gui. Just silently fails. Same for 9i. So i followed these instructions on the link and bingo! install works like a champ. Lot of work but worth it. Kinda sad that you have to go to such gyrations. However happy days that i found this entry on OTN.!!! Many thanks for this entry. Saved many HOURS of debug. How to install oracle client on pentium 4

please can someone tell me how to install oracle client 8i on pentium 4 system. the installation is not going automaticlly , and if i explore the cd and press on the setup file the installing didnt start.

8i definitely has problems with Pentium IV processors. The fix is to copy the entire CD to the hard drive and then rename each copy of symcjit.dll to symcjit.old.

Centos 4.4 compatibility with Oracle 10.1.0.3 on a Pentium

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the Pentium 4 is an x86 architecture (32b or 64b I am not sure how to determine).
But, I did a little research and below is what Oracle says from a minimum o/s standpoint for Oracle 10.1.x
* Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS 4 (base release or higher)
o Kernel 2.6.9-5.EL (minimum)
I logged on and found the following:

I then created a script to verify compatibility (Metalink Note: Note:392940.1)

RedHat unknown 2.6.9-42 is not certified with 10g
Question: is 2.6.9-42 I higher version of the kernel thatn 2.6.9-5?
Should this be supported?

no problem here for the kernel
2.6.9-42.0.0.1 is the kernel coming with RH4 U4, the current patch level of RH4
2.6.9-5 is the version in the base release of RH4, I think
Oracle 10.x is certainly supported on kernel 2.6.9-42.x.x.x which is higher than 2.6.9-5
for the other prerequisites, concerning required packages and settings

Installing Oracle 8i in Solaris Intel Version With Pentium 4

I am trying to Install Oracle 8i under Solaris 8 Intel version with Pentium 4 processor fixed.But iam'nt able to continue after I click "Install" button,the runInstaller exited badly with no response.I was told that even Installing Oracle under Windows P4 is facing the same problem,but on searching I got solution by renaming a DDL file before starting installation.Is there any similar method to do for installing it under p4 processor on solaris intel 8 version.

Trouble!!! Installing Oracle 8i to XP Professional OS w/Pentium 4

I am having trouble installing Oracle 8.1.6.0.0 to my PC. I am running XP Professional and my processor is a Pentium 4. I have read previous responses to this problem and I did go in and change the symcjit.dll file to .old. This did help me a little as it allowed me to startup the Universal Installer, however, once I get up to the Installation Type screen and I select typical then click on next, it runs for a few seconds and then just closes out. I have retried several times but I get the same action. Does anyone have a solution to this problem. Thanks!

There is also a patch 1507768 for this problem. Hopefully you have access to Metalink where you can download this patch. Also on Metalink refer to doc. id. 131299.1 which details this problem and the workarounds.

Oracle 8i Enterprise on Pentium IV machine

A copy of OUI 1.7.1.10.0 is being provided to be used
in a work around for installing on Pentium 4 processors.
1. unzip the patch
2. unjar the contents
3. Go to the directory
.\cd\Disk1\stage\Components\oracle.swd.jre\1.1.7.30/1\DataFiles\Expan
ded\jre\win32\bin\symcjit.dll
rename symcjit.dll to symcjit.dll.ori
4. Invoke OUI and install OUI to disk
cd ./cd/Disk1/stage/win32/setup.exe
5. Use the installed OUI to install the RDBMS
Invoke OUI from the start menu, and install RDBMS software.

We have Legal version of Oracle 8i Enterprise Edition 8.1.6 & we are trying to install the same on Pentium-IV Mahcine with Specification M/B ODSSY 82845, CPU - 1.4 GHZ, 128 MB RAM, 40 GB HDD. But it not installing and also not showing any error. Please guide.

Another method to solve this problem:
0. Be sure you have not installed another JVM which version is less than 1.2 on your machine.
1. Copy all files & folders on the installation CD into a temporary folder
2. Search all symtjit.dll in that folder & its sub-folders
3. Rename all found files to another name, like symtjit.dl~
4. Run the setup program in that folder

But when we tried the Same Oracle in Pentium III its working fine. Where will be the Problem...? I heard the same complaint in Pentium 4 machines with windows 2000. But Oracle 8 is installing in Windows 98 in the same pentium 4 machine. Please help me by giving a good solution....

The bug is with the Symantic ( spelled correctly ? ) Just in time Compiler used with the installer.
A quick workaround is to dump the complete install CD ( in your case the downloaded s/w stage ) to disk and rename the symjit????.dll ( Search the stage area for symjit???.dll ) to symjit???.old. Then start the installer from the staging area. I think the installer tries to use the jit dll if its there and since the one that is shipped is buggy on PIV you just need to rename it so that it won't be used. The installer work's fine without this dll.
