Dear Apple,
Please write a patch or fix for this fric$##%%^% problem!!
I can't use the Fric(&((* phone as a phone.
The patch just needs to stop the controler or the proximity sensor from blocking out the bottom mic. That's all and we can all use this fri$%$ phone as a phone!!!
Otherwise I'll join those others going over to Galaxy's .... or worse some microsoft dragy phone....

I had the same problem this morning. I tried reset on phone a few times. Nothing. Then I restored it from iTunes and it worked fine. This has happened to me before -- don't know the root of it, but restoring has worked so far. Good luck.

Take it in to an Apple store or authorized service center for evaluation and possible replacement.

In particular, pay attention to the mobile device support sections near the bottom, assuming you have already done the items above it.

Oh no, Robinbird18! This is not what we like to hear about your cell phone. It makes it pretty hard to have a conversation with someone when you can't hear them. If you make a phone call out are you able to have a conversation with someone without any issues? How long has this been going on? Have you tried to use the phone on speaker phone to see if that works at all? Please keep us posted. I tried the compressed air, Qtip, etc... still nothing. Called Apple again.... and we did a complete factory reset from iTunes, wiping everything out... still no sound, which proves that it is a hardward problem, under warranty, I have to have phone replaced No Apple repair centers within 300 miles of me! So... shipping phone off today. Bummer.

IPhone 4s earpiece very quiet during calls, but normal in Voice Memos.

My iPhones earpiece is really quiet during calls, but I'm loud and clear on the other end. It's also weird because if I record a message in Voice Memos, and I play it through the earpiece, it sounds fine. I'm in 5.1.1, Jailbroken (shouldn't make a difference) and I even poked a hole in the little earpiece grill, which didn't help and didn't hurt. And yes, the plastic piece is gone, I've had this phone for close to 5 months.

Mine also has this issue. Its the 64GB version. It's happened twice now. After about 5 mintues the call quality degragates and it sounds like i'm in a wind tunnel. The person on the other end also hears this and it is no longer possible to hear each other. Both times i've been using the new headphones provided with the 4s. I've done lots of searching on this issue and only found your thread which leads me to believe its not a common problem. I'm just not sure whether its a firmware or hardware issue but as nobody else has this issue its more than likely a hardware issue! :-(

2 weeks ago my phone stopped making sounds , and I couldn't hear anything during calls Only if I used speakerphone. I sent my phone away to get fixed and received it back a Week later having been 'fixed' with a note saying the problem was due to a corrupt file , I don't download any ringtones which it said could have caused it. I only use it for normal Internet, emails, facebook, bbm etc. 2 weeks on and its happened again although This time it won't even work on speakerphone ! I am really annoyed about this and can't Bear to be without a phone again if I send it away to get fixed . Has anyone else had this problem ? If the original problem was due to a corrupted file, I would suggest upgrading the os before replacing the unit.

Most of the current Apple Intel based computers are comparable in CPU speed. I don't think it is so much the model of laptop as it is the memory, and storage capacity of the machine. If you are going to use FCP on a regular basis, perhaps as a professional or semi-professional, then you should think about the maximum memory and a very large capacity internal disk drive. For instance, one hour of finished compressed video will take up about 1.5 to 2Gbytes of disk space. If you add up the raw footage and still imagery and audio, you'll use up your disk drive capacity real quick. So a hard disk on the order of 750Gbytes @ 7200rpms might be good for video editing. 5400RPMs might be slow to rendering times. Rendering a video might take up a lot of memory so more memory is better e.g. 8Gbytes.
As a rule of thumb, once you get to about 80% of your disk drive or memory you'll see degradation of performance.
You can check out macsales.com. THey have a menu system that will allow you to pick and choose from various alternatives. BTW, it's been said that although Macs are typically spec'd at a certain memory size, macsales.com found that Apple computers will actually support higher memory levels. That is, if 4Gbytes are spec'd, some machines support 6Gbytes. macsales.com will provide the guidance for you.
You might also consider buying an external disk e.g. 500Gbytes to carry around with you for back-up or transport to another machine.

Yikes! I want you to be able to make phone calls on your cell phone! I would recommend what others have stated on here as well. Remove the sim card for a good 30 seconds while the phone is off. Then try to make the phone call again. Have you ever replaced the sim card on your device before? Have you tried looking in settings, general, restrictions and see if the app got restricted? When it's restricted the icon vanishes.

It sounds like you are not getting sounds from your receiver on your phone. I recommend the troubleshooting from the followint article named:
iPhone: Receiver and call audio quality issues

Increase the volume during the call.
Make sure nothing is blocking the receiver. If you're using a protective case or display film, remove it and try again.
Make sure nothing is plugged into the headphone jack or the dock connector.
Check the receiver opening to see if it is clogged with debris. If necessary, clean it with a clean, small, dry, soft-bristled brush.
Try another location with better signal. If the audio issue happens only when on a call, it could be due to the location.
If the iPhone is paired with a Bluetooth headset or a car kit, try turning off Bluetooth on your device. Learn more about troubleshooting Bluetooth connections.
Restart the iPhone.
Make sure your device is up to date.
If the issue is not resolved after restoring the iPhone software, contact Apple Support.
