People complain they cannot hear me clearly when I put them on speakerphone

I just upgraded from the 3G to the 3GS, and all of the sudden people are telling me that they cannot hear me clearly when I place them on speakerphone. They describe it as if I am losing service, and the phone is breaking up.
I never had this problem when using my 3G. In fact, I felt that the 3G was super sensitive, and often times I would have to speak at a lower volume than I normally do on the phone. It seems that now I have to speak extra loud in order for the speaker phone to pick up my voice.
I swapped out the first 3GS I just bought after 2 days of owning it, and the new one also has the problem. Please comment and advise on other experiences of this and how one has handled their situation.
Thank you.

I am having the same problem here. However, when I called the Apple store, they asked me to put them on speaker and there were no problems. From what they told me its certain other carriers having the problem. I realized that when I call other AT&T friends there is no problem. Mostly happens with people on Verizon. Hmmmm...let the battles begin?

Try turning the account off and on : Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars , then tap the account on the right, slide Mail to 'off', exit settings and go back into the Mail app, and then go back to Settings and slide Mail back to 'on'
If that doesn't work then try closing the Mail app completely : from the home screen (i.e. not with the Mail app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
Also do a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

I can hear the caller, but they cannot hear me when I use the speaker function on my iPhone4.  Are there any fixes?

Basic troubleshooting steps outlined in the user guide are restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new device.  Try each of these steps until your problem is solved. If these steps fail to solve your issue, then you'll need to bring your phone into Apple (or an authorized service provider in your area) for evaluation.

  • I phone 4 when face timing i can hear people but they cant hear me

i phone 4 when face timing i can hear people but they cant hear me. help

Having similar problem here only the other way around. The people on the other end of the phone can hear me but I get no sound at all. I can communicate if I plug in the earphones or put the caller on loud speaker. When this fault is occurring I also lose most sounds from my phone. Instead of getting an incoming message noise it only vibrates. I also lose all keypad and lock etc sounds. This problem comes and goes and is truly annoying. The phone is still under warranty but it will be an inconvenience trying to have this problem rectified. It would be interesting to know if it is a hardware problem or another problem created by the upgrade to this os system to 4.1. Either way it is a problem that Apple need to look at urgently as it appears to be fairly wide spread from my research on these boards. I suggest everyone who is having this problem also reports it via the feedback page on the apple site

I saw one post where a user said dust got inside the small microphone hole. Using a vacuum cleaner removed the dust and restored the audio.

Still sounds like the mic to me. There are 2 on an iPhone 4 one on the top of the phone one under, each has a separate task. Sounds to me like your top mic is on the blink.

  • HT4515 Just tried to place a call on my new iPhone5S.     I can hear the person I'm calling, they cannot hear me.    The microphone icon has a line through it, but tapping the icon does not make a difference.

Just tried to place a call with my new iPhone.  I can hear the person I'm calling but they cannot hear me.     There is a line across the microphone icon, which I took to mean muted but nothing changes when I tap it.    What am I doing - or not doing?

is your mute switch turned on (above the volume) ?  remove case and screen protecter.
    is volume turned up?
    if so do this

  • Major Problem iphone 4. I can hear them, they cannot hear me.

This has been happening for the last 3 days. I make or receive a call on my iPhone 4 and within seconds the party on the other line cannot hear me at all. I hear them perfectly but they cannot hear me. Sometimes it happens right away sometimes it takes several seconds but my voice completely drops out. This happens 50 to 80% of the time.
Went to the apple store and they checked it by using the recorder app which worked fine and then by making a call which also worked fine. They did not perform any diagnostics. I'm on the road all day and my business depends on my phone. I am now afraid to make calls for fear of the person on the other side losing me mid sentence or not hearing me at all. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not. This happens whether I'm on speaker, mic or bluetooth.
I upgraded to the latest software on Sunday and to no avail. Am I alone? 32gb iPhone 4 4.0.2 software. Any ideas?
Could this be iPhone problem or ATT?

    Hi
This has also been an issue with my iphone 4, 4.0.1 also.
It worked well for a week but then the person I am talking to can no longer hear me or my voice sounds muffled. This seems to be an intermittent problem but very frustrating. If using speaker phone it works well, for now.
I went into the Orange store and the guy said he has heard of the problem but it's very rare. He told me that Apple can do a diagnostic to see if it is a problem they can fix.
Will let you know if this works.
