Peoplesoft EPM vs OBIEE/OBIA

Hello,
I am performing a comparision for a customer related to delivered functionality out of OBIEE. Peoplesoft EPM comes delivered with several datamarts but typically the users have to create their own reports and dashboards using a third party tool. However, I have not been able to find any documentation related to the delivered datamarts and/or dashboards/reports that come from OBIEE/OBIA. My background is more in the Peoplesoft EPM arena rather than OBIEE. Could a more experienced OBIEE indivudal provide me with some quidance on this? Thanks in advance!

Hello,
Has anyone implemented OBIEE using PeopleSoft EPM datawarehouse. Our client has PeopleSoft FIN and the data is ETL'd to EPM. Now it seems PeopleSoft delivers tons of Ascetial mappings to convert data to OWS (Operational Warehouse Staging) and then populate the Dimension and Fact Tables.
We are having challenge understanding the entire flow. We are trying to implement one module for now. Is there anyone who has done it. Can you please assist in understand the best approach we should take like sequece of jobs we need to run etc.

1) Has anyone used Oracle Warehouse Builder for ETL in conjunction with PeopleSoft EPM (Enterprise Performance Management) Data Warehouse?
2) Does anyone know the expected strategy of Oracle on how to integrate the PeopleSoft EPM suite into the Oracle BI & OWB Suite?
3) Is the integration of the BI products expected to be in parallel with or independant from the integration of the Oracle and PeopleSoft Financials?

You need to import data from EBS database to OBI data base through DAC and the u need to give connection to OBI database in Admin tool and it works

on windows 2003 server 32 bit sp2 that will be running on VMWare 2.0 hosted on windows xp 32 bit.
RAM: 4GB
HDDs: 200GB + 500 GB (Both IDE Internal SATA) Entire 500GB via virtual hard disk on VMware will be utilized to install this Oracle BI stack of apps and if possible install Hyperrion Essbase stuff also.

Is Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x86) [2.6 MB size ] downloadable at

RAM: 4GBI would suggest you increase the amount of memory on this box as 4 GB should be sufficient for Oracle E-Business Suite R12 installation only. So, with the remaining products, I would say you need more RAM -- I understand that running on 32-bit OS will not allow you to have more memory so you may need to consider installing another OS or having more than one virtual machine.

OBIEE, OBIA on Linux

I am new to OBI and hence need advice on the architecture:
I have 2 solutions: I have 3 Linux servers for the OBIEE + OBIA installation: All linux servers are 2 CPU, 8GB VMs. Which solution is better?
Solution A:
Server 1: for database. This DB will host OBIEE MEtadata + Informatica Repository + DAC Repository
Server 2: for Infomratica + DAC Servers
Server 3: OBIEE related components + OBIA
On Windows 7 desktop, I will install Informatica + DAC Client.
Solution B:
Server 1: for database. This DB will host OBIEE MEtadata + Informatica Repository + DAC Repository. Also Informatica + DAC Servers
Server 2 & 3: OBIEE related components + OBIA

It depends of your needs.
What I can say is that you need minimum a windows machine if you check the typical topologie.

Whatever the module, the steps to create the database are exactly the same. Of course, you should take care which tablespace ddl script you are running, and maybe some additional configuration steps given in the supplemental installation that is provided with every module.

I suggest you use an existing install of Peoplesoft Financials. The sample dataset is too large and you would spend a lot of time just setting up the demo environment. Unfortunately, you will have to setup the system for the sample dataset. I guess you will have to do it the hard way if you have no other setup

My Environment: Oracle 10g R2, Win XP, EPM 9, PeopleTools 8.49, WebLogic 9.2, Tuxedo 9I have successfully installed and configured HRMS 9 with the help of Nicholas Gasparotto's documentation on his blog ... just wondering if there is any change as to what script to run when doing the database upgrade to the Tools Im using.
Please share some ideas if you've crossed this bridge.

I put the following for you to understand the upgrade Im talking about ... this is from the 2nd part of PeopleSoft Database Creation from your blog (HRMS9)
Meanwhile, Im doing a fresh install of EPM ... just wanna know if it follows the same procedure as to the upgrade of HRMS 9
After loading the Peoplesoft Application (including PeopleTools objects) in the database creation part I, we should upgrade the database to the latest release we curretly use. This step is not required if your application has been built (I mean the Appliatin database version) on the same PeopleTools which you use.
Since we currently install HRMS9.0 on PT8.49, and like for all the version 9.0 it has been built on PT8.48, we should upgrade the Applicatin database version. It consists on several scripts (sql, dms) and application of projects. Some of the following steps below are also for multilingual application, don't apply these step if your only in english.Thanks again.

EPM Vs OBIEE

Hello Experts,
What is the future of Oracle EPM ? Right now we are on Hyperion 9.2 and i m stuck in deciding whether to go for OBIEE+ or upgrade to EPM.
Why is EPM used and why OBIEE+? I ask this question because people say that if i need a real time reporting power then I should go for OBIEE otherwise Oracle EPM.
Please guide me gurus.

I think you should plan for OBIEE in terms of reporting. Hyperion is very much a part of the OBIEE and is fully supported by Oracle.
I believe EPM is being phased out and OBIEE is becoming a de-facto standard analytics reporting platform for Oracle.
I'm biased - but I'm selling for what I've bought.
Also, I'm sure your Oracle rep would be happy to provide you with further assistance.

Peoplesoft EPM 9.1 - Error creating a Datastage project

I am trying to create a new Datastage project (ETL) for Peoplesoft 9.1 in Datastage 8.5 version , but keep getting this error -
Error message:
DSR.ADMIN: Error creating a schema
DataStage/SQL: "****/****" is not an SQL user.
****/**** is one of the username which we use to login to Datastage.

Need to increase database (where HFM Schemas are created) processes and sessions. once after increase you should be able to open the application without any issues.
Looks like newly redesigned hfm v11.1.2.2 need more db sessions & processes.

OBIEE 11.1.1.6.2 BP1 authentication through Shared Services EPM 11.1.2 .2

Any idea how to get the authentication in OBIEE through Shared Services to work?
We use Native Directory and MSAD in SS, hence we need to get the authentication through Shared Services.
We were able to run this on EPM 11.1.1.3 through LDAP server of Shared services port 28089, surely not working now.
I've tried both of the following but still no luck:

I have not been through this, but hope this helps you though. While we run the System configurator Wizard (EPM 11.1.1.2), we are now having an option to integrate EPM with OBIEE. Have you given it a shot?
I am just thinking, if we could had it configure for us, we could directly access the Subject Areas from OBIEE, just like what Mark had mentioned here : http://www.rittmanmead.com/2009/01/epm-workspace-111-and-obiee-10134-updated/
You could further look into the "SSO using CSS Token" field in the connection pool, too.

R12 OBIA/OBIEE - what to install / what path?

I've been a DBA for a whild but new to EBS and OBIEE. I have read about and want to install the embedded OBIEE/OBIA that comes with R12. I've gotten confused and/or maybe misinformed with all of the forums and blogs as to which are the embedded OBIA vs which are a seperate OBIEE install. I want to take adavantage of the pre-defined reports etc.
First what reports are provided with what comes in R12? What do I gain from the seperate OBIEE install. Is there anything that has a comparision grid for these two items?
Second, I have R12 EBS installed... what do I need to do to set up the one that comes with R12 rather than the seperate install (any software downloads etc) ? We are on R12.1.3 and Oracle Database is 11gr1. We are on Oracle Enterprise Linux.

I have installed OBIEE on Oracle Application Server once. I downloaded Oracle Application SOA Suite 10.1.3.x, I did an Advanced Install and selected then I choose for the option J2EE Server + Web server, so without the SOA Suite component. Then you can install OBIEE on top of it by doing an Advanced OBIEE install.

EPM and OBI SSD type HDD optimization

How are we to configure our EPM and OBI suites if we are to optimize SSD type hard drives. When it comes to SSD drives, the rule is the fewer writes the better. One can probably prolong the lifespan by 25% if one make necessary optimizations.
Server specific optimization:
*Drive indexing disabled (useless for SSD:s anyway, because access times are so low).
*Prefetch disabled.
*Superfetch disabled
*Defrag disabled.
Virtual Machine host
*Store VM-files on a mechanic HDD while the SSD is used solely for the VM-machine's (virtual) HDD-file(s).

I'm about to order two 60GB generation 3 SSD drives with read speed of 550MB/s and write speed of 475MB/s and 50K IOPS. I'm really curious on the improvement in system performance this will entail.

Source of W_GL_BALANCE_F table in OBIEE DW from PeopleSoft

We are currently implementing OBIEE Financial Analytics as part of a larger PeopleSoft ERP implementation. We tried doing data loads from PeopleSoft to the OBIEE SW out-of-the-box. Subject areas for AR and AP have some data, but others including GL Balances and Profitibility are empty. It appears that the source for much of the OOTB dashboards in these areas is W_GL_BALANCE_F. This table is empty in our warehouse, and I am trying to figure out why. In tracing through some of the Informatica mappings, I cannot determine a source from PeopleSoft that loads this table. Can anyone tell me what PeopleSoft tables are used to populate this part of Financial Analytics?

I am new to OBIEE and Informatica and I forgot about the Extract Overrides on the Full workflows and how they differ from the standard ones. I couldn't find references to PS_LEDGER in the mappings and was very surprised by this. But I do see it in the _Full workflow.
