    Hi All,
    I've taken a few deep breaths before writing this to try and avoid a hugely frustrated rant.
    To summarise; since early this morning my previously healthy version of InDesign CC 2014 has been unable to open, crashing at the 'Executing startup services...' stage with the error message 'Adobe InDesign CC 2014 has stopped working'. I worked on it all day yesterday and use it extensively every day more or less, this problem came out of nowhere overnight. I didn't do any kind of system update in the interim period. I'm using a HP Envy dv7 Notebook PC running Windows 8.
    I tried as much as I could based on my own very limited knowledge and some forum searching. I re-installed the software. Did that again using the Adobe CC cleaner .exe file in between un-install and re-install. I uninstalled older versions of the software (which all worked fine - as does the rest of the Creative Suite software I have installed. I deleted extensions. None of this helped.
    I then went looking for Adobe support and got a guy via Adobe's chat controlling my PC from afar and trying some much deeper technical stuff. After two hours he said that it was an OS issue, sorry... after a bit of dismayed pleading he said OK, I'll try one more thing and made me a new user with administration power, told me to login in to that account and try again. I did, it worked! But it's still broken on my main account and he disconnected in the few minutes I was gone and I now seem to be frozen out of chat help. HELP!
    What does this mean? All CS/CC software seems to be working fine on my normal account apart from InDesign CC 2014. I have a huge file, now very close to being overdue, which I was working on in 2014 CC and can't be opened by older versions. The software works on this other account - so I guess I can work there short term. But how do I get it fixed on my main account?
    Hopefully someone out there has the answer?

    First, see Replace Your Preferences and do it for the original account.
    If that fails to solve the problem, rename the two Adobe folders that contain the prefs in the user profile for that account and copy the folders from the new account where it works. You want to be sure you copy the folders, rather than merge the contents, so you must rename the old folders first.

  • Indesign CC 2014 not functioning properly

    I have a CS account, am on a PC running Indesign CC 2014 - last updated 14 days ago. Since then it has been acting sluggish. Maybe the 3D feature is using too much resources? Can I turn this option off?
    Today the export function took 45 minutes to make a 2 page PDF file and none of my older files are showing up with the Indesign icon on them. I tried saving as IDML file & re-opening but no go.
    Should I uninstall and re-install the program?

    Yes, this did fix the problem in my case.
    But I must add that I am not totally happy with the work-around. I had the text display jumped up to 125% for a reason. First the 1920 X 1080 resolution is "optimum" for my monitor. If I change it the OS gives me grief. I am getting on in my years and my vision is going south.
    Also it seems significant that previous versions of Muse worked fine, as do other CC programs. So I hope that this problem will be fixed in a future release so this work-around won't be necessary.
    I understand that update to 64-bit architecture and leaving the Adobe Air platform was a HUGE undertaking (the latter is not complete as I understand it). But maybe the release should have waited a but longer. I realize that I am no one to second guess Adobe's decisions. But it is a disappointment to me because you folks are a class act in so many respects.

    Thanks. Yes, I had referred to that InDesign Secrets post before posting my question. Thus my question about table. Still dont know why my insert table command is greyed out. The stairstep method doesnt work with my narrow spine and decorative, non-monospace font, as explained in exchange here with Bob Levine. And downloading the CJK version for this single, simple task is just too much trouble. The individual text frames proved the fastest solution.

  • Hyphenation in InDesign CC 2014 - not working

    I can not get my hyphenation in InDesign CC 2014 to work. I have it selected in Paragraph styles. I have tried to select all the text and checked the hyphenate box. I have my language selected. I have tried to unistall InDesign and install it all over again. Delete the preferences. Well I think I have tried everything.
    I am doing a layout for a book and it just terrifies me to have to manually hyphenate it.

    Sorry for asking about things you've already tried, but until you tell us we don't know for sure, so I have to ask to get confirmation.
    This is either a corrupt installation, a bug with the language (what happens if you temporarily select some other language?) or more likely a software conflict. We can check for the latter by turning off all non-Adobe plugins (including a font auto-activation plugin), and by restarting your Mac with extensions disabled by holding down the shift key while you start up. After the restart, try the hyphenation with nothing running except InDesign.

    Make sure that none of the CC extension scripts got moved there. If they did, move them back to the CC folder.

    Hi there, need help fixing an issue i'm having with indesign CC 2014 coming up with config error 5 when i try to open up the program (not a file). I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times, deleting preferences and even reverting back to Indesign CC. Same thing happens everytime. Any ideas?

    Since i updated all the company Adobe InDesign CC to Adobe InDesign CC 2014 a lot of files started to get corrupted and the software doesn't seems to work well. For a several times i had to reinstall the software in some machines, i had lose the preferences and for a couple times the InDesign just not open correctly and get closed right before. Last day i had to delete all the user's account information at c:\ and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE ->SOFTWARE->Microsoft->Windows NT-> Current Version->ProfileList at the machine to fix a problem that came for the second time in a month at the company . However, in Adobe InDesign CC i did not had the same problem. None of them. Some one have the knowledge of any instability on this version?
    All the machines have Dell motherboard, Core i3, 6Gb with ATI Radeon HD 4550 video card or better. it couldn't be hardware.
    I'm the I.T. guy here and it's making me work twice as normal .

    as I've said, there is several problems but the most inconvenient is the constant file corruption. When it is the problem we usually get it back to a last version or slit the file in blocks of page to see if the problem is some linked image or some thing else like it. With InDesign CC we had problems with folders permission because of long path names.
    when the problem is with InDesign, at the first we make a system repair. if the problem persist, we reinstall the software. it is the usual, but as I've said, it is not a single problems. is seems to be unstable or something. that's what I am looking for: there is someone that know about a real instability in the InDesign CC 2014 or it should be something else?
    we stay with the latest version of InDesign CC installed in all machines, could be software conflict? we do not use it anymore, but if the problems persist we'll going back to this. what do you guys recommend?

    J'ai installé la semaine dernière la dernière version d'indesign CC 2014 et depuis je ne peux plus faire d'assemblage, l'application plante systématiquement. J'ai réinstallé plusieurs fois pas mieux 
    Est-ce que quelqu'un rencontre le même problème ? Avez vous une solution.

    Malheureusement exactement le même problème...
    Mais en plus, chez moi, lors de chaque réinstallation sur un compte existant, je perds les raccourcis dans les menus "fichier", "édition", ... Et bien entendu, ils ne fonctionnent plus non plus en direct, pomme + c, pomme + v, ...
    Unique solution, recréer un nouveau compte utilisateur, vierge, et hop cela fonctionne !
    Par contre, le problème d'assemblage revient après 4-5 utilisations, pffffffff !
    Après deux "chat" avec le support d'Adobe, on me dit que le problème est chez Apple ! Aux niveaux des autorisations... Et toutes les procédures proposées de suppressions de préf et réparations en tout genre ni change rien.

    In questo caso vorrei scaricare una davvero nuova versione di prova del programma in questione e cambiare in una versione "reale" più avanti, ma perché lei ha detto, che si "re-installato" già, in modo da diventare un po 'complicato. Sarebbe necessario che si deve utilizzare "Adobe Creative Suite Cleaner Tool".
    Ecco un consiglio per che (l'ordine varia a seconda delle esigenze individuali. Si prega di leggere tutte le mie proposte prima, in modo da poter meglio scegliere il primo passo:

    in this case I would download a really new trial version of your program in question and change it into a "real" version later, BUT because you said, that you "re-installed" already, so it become a little bit complicated. It would be necessary that you have to use "Adobe Creative Suite Cleaner Tool".
    Here an advice for that (The order varies depending on your individual needs. Please read all my proposals first, so you can better choose the first step:)
    1. Maybe you have to activate/deactivate, so please have a look there:

    2. Sometimes, we know in the meantime, the "opm.db file" is the culprit. In this case you should delete it.
    3. Did you already try "uninstalling and re-installing"? Be careful with (de)installing aso. by (de)installing by your own resources. As much as I regret it and as strange as it may seem I fear it's a challenge for Adobe's Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool. Sometimes - for whatever reasons - CC doesn't "want" to work. In this case you should CC completely delete and reinstall by help of Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool. (A try to uninstall by own resources is not enough!)

    Bonjour, je viens de passer d'Ind CS 4 à Creative cloud 2014 et je rencontre un pb au niveau de la conversion de fichiers Indesign en fichiers Acrobat .pdf et .pdf prépresse. J'ai reproduit les paramétrages que j'utilisais précédemment et pourtant certaines couleurs (CMJN créées dans mon doc Ind) ne s'affichent pas dans le fichier converti en .pdf. L'impression papier elle est correcte. Toute aide est appréciée !

    Le pb viendrait plutôt du PC (nouvel équipement TOSHIBA) et de l’affichage du document .pdf. En effet, sur un autre PC, il s’ouvre correctement avec toutes les couleurs.
    Je continue à chercher une solution.

    How do you convert the file created in InDesign CC2014 to the format that Indesign V9 can read?
    I tried “[Save As…]” in Indesign CC 2014, but non of the format shown in output format is for Indesign V9 compatible.

    You have three file format options with "Save As". One is for "IDML".
    Or "Export to IDML". Quite the same.
    You can open an IDML file with InDesign CS4 and above…

    I am trying to compile sample project of Indesign CC 2014 using VC++ 2013. but it is showing me following error:

    Build result is also showing "Unknown compiler version - please run the configure tests and report the results".
    I have added following path in "Project properties->VC++ directories->Include directories"
    D:\Adobe InDesign CC 2014 SDK\external\dva\third_party\boost_libraries
    D:\Adobe InDesign CC 2014 SDK\external\dva\third_party\adobe_source_lib
    Please let me know if any kind of settings I need to change in VC++ 2013.

    Dann kann ich nur noch das Fenster schliessen und das war es. Bei PS und Ai gibt es keinerlei Probleme.
    Ich hab schon die Fehlersuche bei Adobe in Anspruch genommen und z.B. nicht funktionierende Schriften entfernt, das Programm als Admin versucht zu starten und auch in Creativ Cloud abgemeldet und wieder angemeldet. Das Problem ist weiterhin da.
    Woran kann es nur liegen?

    Ja, deinstalliert und neu installiert war auch eine der ersten Massnahmen.
