Perfect Beat

Whenever I make a beat in logic using my keyboard, I can never get the beat to loop proper. I tried using the marquee tool, everything! Nothing seems to work. I know it must be something I'm not doing. Please advise.
I would really hate going out and buying an MPC for 2000 when I just spent $1000 on logic.

Can you be more specific about what you mean by "proper"? For example, are you using midi data from your keyboard, or are you triggering Ultrabeat, or are you recording to an audio track? Have you tried quantizing your performance? Further, what is actually happening (what are you hearing) that makes you feel it loop isn't working...is the downbeat occuring to quickly or lagging behind?
More specifics - particularly with respect to the source of your sound - would be helpful.
I can tell you that we loop virtual beats, samples, MIDI performance and audio tracks all day long without incidence...so you needn't worry that you wasted your money.

  • How to snap to grid lines in Logic Pro 9?

In Garageband there's an option to "snap to grid lines" which means that when you click on the grid it will automatically snap the playhead to one of the lines, so it's always on a perfects beat. Does this option exist in Logic Pro 9? How do I turn it on? Thanks!

Left Click and Hold on the Ruler Bar and then move your pointer left or right and it will snap to the Bar
Or.. even simpler is to use the comma and period keys on your keyboard to move the playhead forwards and backwards by exactly one bar, snapping to the bar.

  • When I recorded a vocal track 3 hours ago, it recorded perfectly. The syncing was perfectly in time with the rest of the song. I just came back to start working on it again, and it's completely off beat. What gives?

Also, I'd forgotten about this problem until just now, when I extend a loop (for instance, to play 2x instead of just one) it plays a phantom 3rd time. What I mean by this, is there's no track to tell garage band to play it a 3rd time, but it does anyway. If I copy paste the loop, it doesn't do it. I've got no idea what to do with this one. I'd really appreciate a quick response as I'm in the middle of a recording project :/
    Thanks muchly

    Hello Brian,
The syncing was perfectly in time with the rest of the song. I just came back to start working on it again, and it's completely off beat. What gives?
this may happen, if you accidentally turn on Auto Quantize for the track in the track editor, also "follow tempo and pitch" may cause it. Have you checked the settings?
As to your strange loop: is it a software instrument loop or a real instrument loop you are talking about?
If it is a software instrument loop you can look at it in the track editor and delete any extra beats that are revealed by looping. That sometimes happens if there are long notes at the end of the loop.

  • Beats By Dre

Anyone that spends a decent amount of time listening to music through headphones knows what a wide range of sound quality and comfort you can get from different models of headphones. I spend a good portion of my days with my headphones on to help block out the noise around me and to listen to my favorite bands to help me focus and concentrate. I’ve gone through many different models over the years in search of the most comfortable options with the best sound, and I know that what many people recommend and are looking for are Beats By Dre headphones. There are a few variations among the different models of Beats By Dre, so I wanted to take some time to highlight some of the features and differences you’ll find.
Beats By Dre can be separated into two general categories; over-the-ear/on-ear headphones and earphones. We’ll take a look at both, and start with the models of headphones.
    Beats By Dre Headphones
    Solo HD
The Beats By Dre Solo HD headphones are a great place to start when considering Beats By Dre headphones with their lighter, more compact design. Of course, these design features don’t compromise sound quality, and you’ll still get the clear highs and the deep bass that Beats By Dre headphones are known for. They come in a variety of colors including black, red, green, blue, and more. They also have a folding design to make them easier to carry with you.
    Includes:
Beats By Dre Solo HD headphones
3.5mm audio cable with in-line audio controls and microphone
    Carrying case
    Cleaning cloth
    Mixr
Taking the step to the Beats By Dre Mixr headphones, you’ll discover an incredibly durable set of headphones that are built to cater to the needs of DJs. They’re made with a more flexible headband and also feature rotating earcups that allow for single-ear monitoring, perfect for DJs. These headphones are also unique in that they have an audio cable port on each earcup which allows you to daisy-chain your audio and share it. Basically, you can be plugged in to your audio source with one input, and someone else can plug into the other audio port to hear what you’re hearing. With DJs in mind, this model was also built to continue to deliver quality, deep bass even as you turn up the volume. They come in a variety of colors including black, white, blue, green, yellow, and more. They also have a folding design to make it easier to take them with you wherever you go.
    Includes:
    Beats By Dre Mixr headphones
3.5 mm audio cable with in-line audio controls and microphone
    1/4" audio adapter
    Carrying case
    Cleaning cloth
    Studio
The Beats By Dre Studio headphones are the original model of Beats, and feature active noise cancellation. Powered by 2 AAA batteries, the noise cancellation feature on these headphones helps to block out external noise so that you can listen to the amazing sound quality that they produce with fewer distractions. Also, you’ll find that the Beats logo on the side of these headphones isn’t just for looks, it also acts as a mute button when pressed. They come in a variety of colors including black, white, red, and blue, and feature a folding design to make it easier to carry them with you.
    Includes:
    Beats By Dre Studio headphones
3.5mm audio cable with in-line audio controls and microphone

    2 "AAA" batteries
    Hard-shell carrying case
    Cleaning cloth
    Wireless
The Beats By Dre Wireless headphones allow you to enjoy the sound quality that Beats are known for without a cord getting in the way. These headphones can connect to Bluetooth-enabled devices from up to 30’ away, and even have audio controls on the earcups so you don’t even have to pull out your MP3 player or walk back to your audio source to change songs or adjust the volume. They feature a rechargeable battery that can provide up to 10 hours of playback and are easily rechargeable with the provided USB charging cable. They feature a fold-flat design that makes it easier to pack them for travel, and also have active noise cancellation powered by 2 AAA batteries to filter out the external noise that goes along with traveling, whether it’s on a plane, train, or in a car. They’re lightweight and have pivoting earcups so you can comfortably wear them for extended periods of time.

    Pro
The Beats By Dre Pro headphones are designed so you can experience music the way it was meant to be heard. They feature a sound-isolating design that helps to reduce external sounds to improve the clarity of the audio coming through the headphones. This is different than active noise cancellation because it doesn’t require a powered device or batteries to filter the noise. They also feature dual audio ports like the Mixr headphones so you can share what you’re listening to. They feature a folding design that makes it easier to carry them with you.
    Includes:
    Beats By Dre Pro headphones

  • How do you add a new scene to beginning without disturbing movie with music and beat markers?

How do you add a new portion to the beginning of your project without disturbing the rest of the project that already has perfectly place clips attached to beat markers with the music ?
I forgot to add a tittle intro before the music starts with the attached pictures. When I try to add the whole project goes out of sync.
I want to just add an intro without disturbing the entire project.
    Thanks

Well, if you re-attach your background music under the first clip, the starting point will be at the start of that clip so I think it will still be in sync.  If not it's simply a matter of nudging the music track a bit along the timeline.  Comparing the audio waveforms of the two tracks should help with this.  When its right you can delete the track in the background music position.  Now you can add what you like before the first clip without affecting sync.
    Geoff.

  • H8-1287 Beats Audio controls do not work in Windows 8.1

I've upgraded to Windows 8.1 and installed the IDT High-Definition audio driver from HP's website.  The surround sounds seems to be working but the controls do not work to modify the EQ etc.  I've seen the problem has been resolved for Envy laptops but all the links for the software appear to only be for the notebooks and not compatible with my desktop system.  I've downloaded the available software (IDT High-Definition Audio driver) found under my HPE HI-1287 product from HP's support site but the Beats audio control panel doesn't seem to make any sound quality changes.  Hopefully there is a driver somewhere compatible with my desktop system that allows controling the audio properly.  Thanks.

    Hello @KICR,
I understand that the Beats Audio Console is not adjusting the audio settings on your HP Pavilion HPE h8-1287c Desktop PC running Windows 8.1. According to the HP Pavilion HPE h8-1287c Desktop PC Drivers page there are no Windows 8.1 drivers for your computer. I can only assume that this means your computer is currently using Windows default drivers or Windows 8 drivers and the Beats Audio Console is not able to interact properly with the currently installed driver.
All I can recommend is that you check back periodically to the drivers page I linked above and see if Windows 8.1 drivers have been created. Other than that your only option at this time would be to use the HP Support document: Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 8) to restore your computer back to Windows 8 where the Beats Audio Console has drivers that are compatible.
I hope this helps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • Reason beat tempo not syncing with Logic Tempo???

    Hi,
Made a beat in Reason 5
Exported loop at 137 bpm and saved to external hard drive.
Imported loop into Logic with Logic tempo set at 137 bpm.
Set the metronome on for recording. Pressed record and and beat & metronome are out of sync.
I used beat detection to try find the tempo (said it was 137.1672 or something) yet still the metronome & beat go out of sync...
    Any ideas?
I'm going to try saving the beat to the internal harddrive and see if that is the problem.
The external hard drive is USB not firewire.
    Hope you can help me...

to bring your reason audio into logic in perfect sync, open reason as a rewire slave to logic and set up a logic aux track input to reason L&R. Set your locators in logic to the loop length and bounce (with "add to audio bin" enabled so its easy to drag it into your song). This locks the 2 clocks together. Which drive your audio is on is irrelevant.

  • I need a replacement HD audio driver other than the IDT/Beats hunka junk.

Anyone out there know if its alright to install a HD audio driver (brandwise) other than the one that came pre loaded on my HP Dv6 A8 windows7 x64? Hp apparently has IDT by the short hairs, not letting anything get out without being overprocessed, compressed and enhanced to DEATH. Not only that but they've got to drag that insolent worthless F*up, Beats audio to every download. I've tried everything, from the generic system driver that comes with windows, to registry patches and still have every problem that everyone else has with this driver.
I only see a few ways through this and they are as follows
1.)  Get a new sound card ( but I'm broke after paying 900.00 for this laptop)
2.)  Build a cutom driver  ( guess you gotta start somewhere 'eh?)
    3.) Get the lo-down on a Beats-free Idt driver...........ANYONE?..anyone.......anyon..any........
4.) OR, get a thumbs up and possibly a link to the original question.
I'm afraid that all this messin' with my 'puter is gonna funk it up after a while. Kinda like a bad hair day, the more you fuss the worse the 'muss.

I am providing you a link to an HP Support document called “Obtaining Software and Drivers” below. This document will demonstrate the different ways up getting your drivers. From Microsoft, to the HP driver page for your computer, to the original drivers that came with your computer.
There is nothing saying you cannot go directly to the audio manufacturer and download their drivers for the chip but there is no guarantee that they will work correctly as most times the OEM (in this case HP) request modifications to the hardware to suit the software requirements so they may not match up exactly. It is worth giving it a try though.

  • Why is beat audio on the HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC so terrible?

I have had bad experience with audio on HP notebooks previously....
    I had a dm1 which had a flawed duel mic/phones mini jack.
Years later (few months back), i was after new laptop.  Decided upon a bigger machine, again HP pav. 15.  I figured it would be alot better.  And really i didnt stop to consider the beats audio element, as it turns out, that was a fail...
Soon after use i discovered that there was alot of post processes happening to the audio;  ridiculous compression/limiter with huge dynamic fading in and out trigger by sharp hits.  So a big quick hit, which would be at unity (0db) makes the limiter and thus overall gain fade down to 1/3 volume over the space of 10-15 seconds.   Some tones and hits wont trigger the limiter.  Some will slowly bring the volume up.  Its remarkable.
EQ is forced.  Lets start with the bass....typical to beat phones, the beatsaudio in my hp pav. 15 adds loads of bass.
Lauching the panel shows some of the processes...on eq the default is seemly nonsensical som faders at 100 others at 50.  Putting the bass fader to 0 has little to no effect.  I tried to make the EQ 0 across the board, what happens?...silence.
You have to have one fader to at least 1.  Either bass, mid, treble, clarity, etc.  Having mid on 5 is the closest to bypass as you can get!
Which leads me on the bypassing.  You can uncheck use beats audio and opt for standard audio, wow perfect you think....wrong.  Click bypass and there is NO BASS WHATSOEVER.
Its clearly done on purpose to make people think beats audio is amazing and you have to use it.
Side issue; even with beats on and faders cranked the loudess output according to mixer is about 50-60%, so wierd.  With all the loudness processes its actually quiet.
Again, ridiculous.   How its anyone who actually likes music supposed to get on with this!
Movies/vocal/tv etc hardly triggers the comp/limiting at all so you have to really crank the volume..until a particular tone or hit will make the volume fade up.
Beats audio is making all audio terrible and theres seemingly no way around it.
My options are BUY external soundcard for couple of hundred, half lappy value, or find a way via drivers/software to sort it.
I have seen this problem on forums and the suggested fix is to find and edit the xml files beats uses.
I dont know which, but found about 10 xmls in appdata/local/ somewhere.  Opening in notepad it shows all the beatsaudio processes n each parameter there in.
I changed all the 'enable' from 1 (on/yes) to 0 (off/no) and generally zeroed everything.  Saving is a pain, have to open notepaad as admin then open xml by looking for 'any file', then edit, then save as, again having to select 'anyfile' and replace.  Took ages, even copying and pasting the whole text into each xml file.
Thought would be worth it to fix the problem and have a geniune bypass.  Not the case.
Its driving me mental.  What is HPs problem with audio.  Laptops with 10 years ago would be better than this because at least the output would be normal, uneffected audio.
Surely there a way to get rid of beats audio and run standard windows audio?
Or even just a perfected edit of the (correct) xml files to tell the processes to do nothing!
    Please help!

  • ControlTalk doesn't work perfectly

    Hi guys,
I have a problem with the ControlTalk function of my Beats by Dr Dre Mixr.
I plug in the cable into my iPad or iPhone. Sometimes, the volume controling works perfectly but sometimes not.
If I turn the cable, the iDevice doesn't react to the controls of the remote anymore. So the cable with the bend have to stand away from the device.
I hope you understand my Problem and that you have an answer.
I'm not sure but I think that the bug appeared when I updated to iOS 6. As I said, it doens't work on iPad and iPhone.
    Greeting from Germany

    mkonio,
Thank you for your reply. Actually I am using jdeveloper11g tp realease 2. The rollback button works but not create insert button. What I did is
    1. create bc entities, views, application modules, ( data control created automatically)
    2. create a blank jsf page
    3. drag a collection from data control to the page and create a adf table
    4. add a collection panel around the adf table
    5. add create insert button and other buttons on toolbar
    6 run the jsf page
then I test click create insert button, nothing happens, if I refresh the page there a blank row. Anything I missed? If you could let me know what you did that will be great.
    Thanks a lot.

  • Gamma issue... beating a dead horse

so so confused, about this gamma shift from After Effects to Final Cut. I rendered the same clip out 4 different times and each time it has different gamma. Here are my render settings:
    1. v210 Codec
    2. Quicktime Animation
    3. Apple FCP Uncompressed 8bit
    4. ProRez 422 HQ
The first 3 I thought were uncompressed or "slightly" compressed. The v210 codec looked like crap. The best was Animation & FCP Uncompressed... but again they look different. This is complete madness. And it did not matter if I selected use Legacy. Out of all our gear only Final Cut is gamma crazy... Can someone explain to me why such a difference in these clips. I know I'm beating a dead horse here. Thanks for any helpful tips or pointers

Mine is fluctuating. Mine worked without having the Match Legacy Gamma Adjustment on and then off then on. I did something which seemed to overwrite a setting and reset something. Not sure.
    Try this.
In project settings, Turn on the Blend Colors Using 1.0 Gamma.
Render something in the render que. My video suddenly got darker and the results were darker than normal.
I went back, checked it off, re-rendered it, and it worked out perfectly.

  • Binaural beat audio made in Logic Pro doesn't sync

    Now, I'm confused!...
I've created a meditation exercise in Logic Pro with a binaural tone. (A 110 hz sine wave in the left channel, and 120 hz tone in the right...producing a binaural beat)
It plays perfectly on the laptop, even if I try to create that tone on other software (Sound Studio, Gnaural..) and save as .aif, or .wav.
When I move this to the iPhone, or iPod, via sync, air sharing, or email attachment, the binaural beat is gone, and the device seems to choose one tone, and put it in both ears.
Is there some 'feature' of the iPhone/iPod that somehow manipulates these binaural tones, or makes them mono? There are apps that produce these binaural beats just fine, and I've unzipped them, and THAT audio plays perfectly on the laptop and phone.
    Confusing.
Why would the apps that feature binaural beat audio work AOK on the iPhone and laptop, but produced content that includes these tones not reproduce properly on the iPhone?
    Any help is SUPER appreciated

Or I'm just a complete idiot. There is a page in the RM that says that when an audio file is dragged and dropped into the arrangement, it creates a small pointer region but doesn't show the entire waveform of the audio. How am I supposed to edit the audio that I've imported if I cannot see the rest of the region which would normally have been there if I had recorded directly to the track?
Is there a way to expand the region's view to match the length of the audio file?

Once you get it snapped-to-grid, open it in your Editor, and make sure the end of the Loop ends right at the end of the measure (and, of course, starts right at the beginning of the measure).

  • Newbie Video production synchronised with a tune (BPM/frame per beat)

    Hello,
I wish to throw my audio track on a timeline, and have a grid allowing me to see the rythm/beats... that way I can just throw video sequences, trim and loop with help of the grid to be perfectly synchronised with the tune! do you see what I mean?? do U know anything that does that or close enough in final cut studio? or should I just use a precise BPM counter on my track and then put in the BPM value somewhere in program,
A lot of people adviced me to use that a converter found online To know how many frames per beat depending on the BPM, but surely a software must be able to dothat??? right?
    Thanks for ur help.

You're better off doing this by ear and eye. It's pretty stunningly unlikely that the rhythm of your soundtrack can be described in an even number of 1/24th-of-a-second (or whatever your timebase is) frames. And if a particular beat is marked by something like a cymbal crash, it probably spans across several frames of video.
Editing is an art, not a science. Use your senses to put the cuts where they feel right, and lo and behold, they'll feel right to your audience as well.
