  • The Perfect Setup?

Hello, I will upgrade some of my gear soon & wanted to take this opportunity to set up a home network.
What is "The Perfect Setup" ?
Gear at my disposal is/will be:
    MacBook
    iMac
    1 x 2GB external HDD
    3 x 1GB external HDD
    Apple TV
    iPhone
    iPad2 (soon)
    Wifi Router.
I'd like to be able to share my music/movies/podcasts across my devices and/or stream them to my TV.
I'd like to be able to sync some of my music/movies/podcasts across to my MacBook when I travel, knowing that my MacBook HDD is 500GB and that I can't fit it all in.
In fact, I want to be able to have all my files on my external HDD's. I think this makes the most sense.
So there you have it, what is the perfect setup for this? How would you go about setting up a home network with all this?
    Thxs,

Get him an Airport Extreme. This way he will not run into any of the problems with third party cheap routers that so many in these boards have. Also on the Extreme you can run the new N frequency for the fastest wifi sharing and get a power USB2 hub and you can plug the two externals hard drives to it, easily.

  • Printer Setup for Aperture and Epson R1800

After installing the upgrade to 1.5, something went wrong with my printer setup for both my R1800 and my PictureMate Deluxe.
    I've done the following:
    Reset the printer system.
    Reinstalled the Drivers
Attempted to Print from Aperture using about 30 + combinations of settings.
I'm still getting colors that are off and overall dark photos.
    Best Setting appears to be
    Printer Settings
    Print Settings
Media Type: Premium Glossy Photo Paper
    Color: Color
Mode: Advanced (Photo, High Speed, Finest Detail, Off)
    Color Management
    Off (No Color Adjustment)
    ColorSync Profile: SPR1800 PrmGlsy Photo.icc
    Black Point Compensation = Checked
    Gamma 1.10
The resulting pictures appear to be about 1 f-stop or so underexposed and the colors are off (I'm color blind, so I can't say exactly how). I know that it is the setup of the printer settings. If I print the same pictures from Nikon Capture on my Windows computer, the print is perfect. I prefer to use Aperture for my photo work.
Epson doesn't have Aperture and doesn't understand all of the settings. The Apple Care support tech stated that he is not qualified to answer and said to call back when the Aperture team is working. I've got a ton of Christmas gifts to print out!
    Assistance would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    -William

    william:
you don't state in your original posting whether or not you've calibrated your monitors, especially to a 2.2 Gamma. in order to get the most accurate screen->print matching you have to hardware calibrate your monitors. this is by far the single most significant improvement i've made in my workflow. prior to calibration my monitors were set to a gamma of 1.8 which is much brighter than 2.2 and this causes you to NOT correct your images with the additional exposure required for proper printing. my prints were always too dark prior to calibration.
the spyder 2 from color vision is an excellent choice.

  • HT4557 whats the best itunes/appleID setup for family of 3 with 3 ipads, 3 iphones, one PC with all music on.  if we use 3 separate ones how do we share purchased and home content?

been with apple for years.  one itunes/appleID in use for family - all purchases and downloads on the one account..
now got 3 ipads, 3 iphones and when we update the software, we seem to get text/facetime issues due to multiple email addresses and phone numbers for the different devices that each individual uses.  For example, I send a text and it appears to have come from my wife or son to the recipient.  Not good !
there seems to be direction from apple that each of us should use our own apple id, thogh how do I link the accounts so enable family sharing of music/media we have purchased etc - Id also like to be able to review and keep a private eye on what my son downloads as he is 11 yrs old ! I manage this currently as we allow him access to the password for itunes (as we all use the same id today)
Am i better setting up accounts for my wife and son independent of my own, or not. Each of us would like access to the family content we have and the master library of synced content.  I just want the most simplistic approach that apple, or others would recommend.
Is there a better or optimum setup for a family as we cannot be alone.....

Thanks for the help, but a follow up question now.
My iPhone won't arrive for a little while, but my wife already got hers and she wants to set it up now. Using my Apple ID for the purchases, if she starts setting hers up, can she change her iCloud ID to something else quickly? It keeps telling us that we have to sign in with the AppleID first.
Should we just set up an iCloud account via normal internet before trying all this via iPhone?

  • What is icloud setup for Multiple users, multiple devices in family?

What would be the recommended setup for iCloud to allow family members with multiple devices and multiple iTune accounts to share purchases, sync there own mail account, contacts, and reminders with multiple devices, and be able to sync calenders with all family calendars? Or better yet how can family members pick and choose what to sync with a common iCloud account?

I'd like to know this to.
We have 1 mac mini that serves as a media station that streams audio to Zeppelin air and photos & movies to our TV.
My wife buys music on her iPhone. And takes pictures of the family.
I buy apps and music on my iPad. And make movies of the family.
I have a macbook pro ( itunes with home sharing,  iphoto home sharing ).
She has a nice macbook (  itunes with home sharing, iphoto home sharing ).
What we would want is that the mac mini collects all music / videos / media and streams it to all our apple devices via wifi ( not via internet ). But I with my appleID and she with her appleID.
I wonder is Apple can make an GUInterface that I can understand to solve this.
This iCloud seems not too suited.
For families it would be easier if iOS5 would have 'home sharing' with upload and not transfer everything to CA first.

  • VPN Client and Setup for RV042

Is there a definitive setup for a small VPN using the RV042?
Situation is 2 remote users wish to get access to a non server (W7P) pc to access files.
The end point doesn't have a static IP but I've put in a DYNDNS.org so it reports back the IP and I can access the router at least from outside.
I can setup VPN users but is there more to do?
Wish to use QVPN client or advise alternative.
    Appreciate all input.
    Thanks
    Bruce

    Bruce,
QuickVPN normally works well for what you wish to do. Make sure that the Windows Firewall is ON in Windows 7 and Windows Vista clients. Turn off all antivirus and third party firewall software as well at least until you have verified that you have a successful connection. It is very easy to set up, just create a username and password in the router. If you run into trouble, post here or call your local Small Business Support Center:

  • ICloud setup for Family to only share Apps

Okay, so I've tried reading through several different articles to figure this out but I'm not getting anywhere so I'm hoping there's somewhere here with a similiar setup that can just give the basic setup. So here's what I want to do, I want to be able to setup icloud on each of my families devices so they are backed up into their own accounts but I also want to make sure that App's are shared across the devices. Here's the setup that I have:
    1. For Myself I have an iPhone and a iMac
    2. My wife has an iPhone and a Macbook
    3. My son has a iPad
Now right now everyone is linked up to my Apple ID since that's the account in which all the Apps are purchased and the billing information is linked up to. I want to setup each device with an icloud account as well so our informaiton can be backed up but I don't want information crossed over between devices (for example I don't want all the contacts from my wife's phone on my phone nor do I want our messages sharted on my son's iPad). I'm not sure on how I can go about this since right now each device is hooked up to my Apple ID (so we can use the Find my iPhone app as well for each device) so I don't know if I create a separate account for everyone if that will still work or if I need to know each login and password. I also want to setup a icloud e-mail account that I can use for the iMac and my iPhone only, and the same setup for my wife and her Macbook. Any help would be great, thanks.

To avoid sharing and merging your iCloud data, you will need to put each person's devices on a separate iCloud account with a separate ID.  You can continue to all share the same ID for iTunes; it does not need to be the same as the ID you use for iCloud.
Creating separate accounts will keep everyone's iCloud data separated, and give each person's devices their own 5GB of free storage for their device backups, and a separate iCloud email account/address.  However, Find My iPhone (iPad, iPod, Mac) is tied to the iCloud ID so they cannot be tracked together on the same map.  You will have to sign into each iCloud account separately (on icloud.com or the Find My iPhone app) in order to locate devices using that iCloud ID.

  • SSL Certificate setup for Web/Address Book/iCal in 10.7 Lion?

I know nothing about certificates. I plan to use my Mini server to help manage my family's computers which are pretty spread out across the U.S. My plan is to use profile manager for device management, host a couple websites (one secure for home security cams) and share address books and calendars. This is as much a geek gadget project as it is "useful" so I understand I may be creating some work for myself
Anyway, can someone walk me through the correct setup for certificates? My research is showing me a LOT of options/parameters. Due to the expense, i don't want to create one just to find it won't serve my purposes.
Also, I think i'm going with RapidSSL...$50 is the cheapest I've come across...hopefully the offer what I need?

I have just spent 30 minutes on the phone to a pleseant chap in Athens, and now have a solution.
We tried several options and the final one worked - so simple.
Click on the apple symbol > system preferences > iCloud > disable contact sync > keep contacts
Check search, in my case it worked for the first time in several weeks :-)
then re-enable contact sync as follows:
Click on the apple symbol > system preferences > iCloud > re-tick contacts > merge contacts
    Search still works
    Hallelujah!

  • Office 2013 RMS Client Configuration - Your Machine is not setup for IRM

    Hi All,
I have successfully setup a test AD RMS farm but stuck at trying to configure Office 2013 to work with this. The farm configuration is as below
    DC: Windows 2003
AD RMS Server: Windows 2008/ SQL Server 2008 R2
Client: Windows 7 64 bit with Office 2013 32 bit, Domain Joined
Client is domain joined and SCP has been successfully registered ( I can see the SCP in AD RMS properties).
When I open word and select Protect Document -> Restrict Access, the only option is to Connect to RMS Server and get template, which eventually gives an error
Your Machine isn't setup for Information Rights Management (IRM). To set up IRM, sign in to office, open an existing IRM protected message or document, or contact your help desk.
Surprisingly, when I open a document protected by IRM (from a different machine), IRM is automatically configured for the user and starts working from that point. However any new domain user login into this client faces the same issue.
Can anyone help identify the required registry keys that need to be present for getting this working on the client.
    Thanks for your help

  • Speedlight setup for 7d and other settings

So I'm very new to "action photography" specific to radio controlled cars. I have a canon 7D. I have learned how to set the c1-c3 to custom settings. For now I use the green "square" setting for group photo's and still "shop" photo's. I'm perfectly happy for now with the results my 7d produces in respect to those photo's. I just got the YONGNUO speedlite today. Here are the constants of my shooting:
    1. Warehouse type lighting(not good especially when setting the apeture speed to about 1000) dark photo's.
    2. the next few months (until spring) will be same setting
I want to set c1-c3 to cover action shots within a range of these poorly lighted facilitys
so any suggestions on what I shoudl set them too and what the best settings I should set my speedlight to???
thanks again, this is one of the best forums I have ever been to for ANY subject
    Www.rc-ops.com

I don't have a Yongnuo flash. I use a bunch of Canon 550EX and 580EX II flashes and am most familiar with them. So the following may or may not be exactly what you can do with your flash... But it's what I'd do with my flashes.
A flash can be used in a warehouse lighting situation, so long as you are just trying to illuminate a specific item and not the entire warehouse. I suspect you won't be able to bounce the flash off ceiling or walls, so will probably need to direct it right at your subject. That may or may not give you the results you want. But, what the heck, give it a try and see if the results are what you wanted...
If you are using a longer telephoto lens, you might also need a flash extender to concentrate the light farther away. Most flashes are designed for up to about 100 or 135mm. Using 200mm or 300mm lens with them might be unsatisfactory without an extender (link is to the only one I found quickly that's specifically for Yongnuo flashes, you might shop around... I use a different type for my Canon flashes). A flash extender can bump lighting strength by 2 or 3 stops at a typical telephoto distances.
    Now try this...
Set your camera to 1/250 shutter speed, manual mode (M), and put the flash in ETTL. You control the reach (distance) of the flash with the lens aperture... the larger aperture, the farther the flash will reach. Use a smaller aperture for closer distances, to prevent blowing out images. Turn off Auto ISO. Set your camera's ISO a bit below what it would need to record the ambient light with the shutter speed and aperture combo you're using. At the same time, be aware that the higher the ISO you use also increases the flash's effective reach at any given aperture. You have to strike a balance, where you get the reach you need but keep the ISO low enough to make the flash the primary or main (or only) light source.
Using M makes the flash the main light source, as far as the camera is concerned. ETTL will still provide auto exposure, even though the camera is set to M with Auto ISO turned off. Using flash as the primary light source (overpowering the ambient lighting), will eliminate most or all problems with the color of mixed lighting. Use the "Flash" white balance setting on your camera (it might do it automatically if left in Auto White Balance, once the camera senses a flash is being used).
You can still use Flash Exposure Compensation to increase or decrease the exposures you're getting.
The main reason to set up this way is that the flash will act like a relatively fast shutter speed, around 1/720 is typical with most flashes. That will freeze relatively fast action. You could even slow the camera's shutter down to 1/200, 1/160, 1/125, 1/60... It would matter because the camera's shutter speed doesn't really determine the exposure, so long as it's not so slow that ambient light starts to be recorded. In other words, the flash is acting like a shutter, instead of the camera's shutter.
If some ambient light is still being recorded, you can see some odd (or interesting) ghosting effects. You have a choice... set the flash to rear curtain sync so that the ghosting "trails" the subject and looks more realistic.... or you can  decrease your ISO, so that less ambient light is being recorded at your chosen aperture and shutter speed.  (Note: You cannot use rear curtain sync and HSS at the same time, see below.)
If the flash itself isn't fast enough to freeze the action, you will have no choice but to use High Speed Sync (HSS). That's usually set on the flash itself and it seriously limits the distance your flash can reach, but allows you to bump up your shutter speed to better freeze action... to be able to get enough reach, use the lowest shutter speed you can.... try around 1/800 or 1/1000, 1/1250... the faster your shutter speed, the less reach of the flash.
Unless you shoot in the same location frequently, the lighting there is very consistent and you want the same sort of results all the time, you may or may not be able to use one of the presets (C1, C2, C3) the way you're trying to do.
Be sure to turn off Auto ISO. And do not use any of the camera's auto exposure modes (Av, Tv, P). Those will force the flash to FILL mode, and try to expose based on the ambient light as the main source. You'll get too slow shutter speeds, or too shallow depth of field due to too large an aperture, or too high an ISO

    Hi,

  • Entry Channel setup for multiple company codes

    Hello,
I have a question regarding the entry channel setup (for external requirements in the Plan-Driven Procurement scenario)
In previous implementations, I 've created an entry channel below each company code (as the documentation says it should be). Now, for each entry channel, there was a EBP user assigned, which corresponded to an RFC entry in the backend system (I was connecting EBP to multiple backend systems)
Now, what should I do in the following scenario?:
    1. SRM is only connected to one backend system
    2. There are 50 company codes
Does that mean I have to create 50 users (for each channel) plus 50 RFC connections in the R/3 system (each with a different user in the backend system), pointing to the same SRM system?
I was thinking of creating an Org iD in the SRM structure at the top (which would be the entry channel), assign only ONE user to it and then fill attribute BUK with all the company codes. However, I don't know if this will work, because the external requirement process might need the company code defined in the "Function" tab... =/
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Gilberto.

    Hi Proyecto Genesis,
I am also configuring the Entry channel (org unit) for multiple company codes.
I tried your logic of defining the entry channel outside company code level. Assigned the BUK attribute and extended attribute for plants and storage locations.
Also in my case the local Pur org and Pur group is defined outside the company code. Is it correct?
However the system fails to transfer the external requisition to SRM.
    SLG1 displays following error message.
"No address found for partner function type Ship-To Address"
So if I move the Entry channel (org unit) under any one company code level then the external requisitions are transferred correctly to SRM.
But then the issue is the requirements are not transferred with the backend Pur Org and Pur grp. Instead they are transferred to the Pur Org and Pur grp of the company code under which the entry channel is defined.
Can you please share how do we need to define the entry channel, local pur org and pur grp for multiple company codes scenario, so that the ECC requisitions are transferred with the correct company code, pur org and pur grp to SRM?
Or do we need to define Entry channel for each company code and RFC user actually mapping the same backend system?
    Please guide.
    Regards,
    Sandeep

  • Setup for Discoverer to have multiple sessions opening in different browser

What is the setup for Discoverer or Windows 6 browser to have multiple discoverer sessions opening in different browser windows at the same time in Discoverer 10g Plus?
We have implemented Discoverer 10g Plus just to be used as an extract tool. We have some workbooks retrieving 200,000 or more rows from an Oracle database.
