Perforce Integration Headaches

Hi all,
This is a cross post from LAVA.
I have recently installed Perforce on our server
(P42008.2) and Perforce Client (P4V/NTX86/2008.2/188141) on our
developers PCs (WinXP SP3, LV Full Dev Suite).
I then configured LabVIEW SCC, telling it to use
Perforce Command Line and told LabVIEW where to find the server etc. I
then moved an existing LabVIEW Project to my workspace folder and opend
it in LV, right clicked on the top level VI and selected "Add to Source
Control...". A window popped up showing me all the dependencies of the
top level VI and clicking OK displayed a window telling me that each
file had been added to the depot as " - opened for add". I click OK and
LabVIEW does not indicate the files are in SCC.
I then switch to the
P4V client window and submit the changelist (adding the VI and it's
dependants to Perforce). I repeat this process for the .lvproj file and
voila!, the project is in Perforce. Back in LabVIEW however there is no
indication the project has been added to SCC (no check in/check out
glyphs on project icons) and when I right click on the project, I only
have the option to "Add to Source Control..." again????. Of course
trying to add the project to SCC again thows up erros about existing
files etc.
What am I doing wrong??
PS I have tried this with LabVIEW 8.5.1 and 8.6.

Hi,
Did you configure Preforce and SCC as instructed in these two articles?

  • Perforce SCC integration problems

This is more of a bug report than a question.
We are using CVI/LabWindows together with Perforce as the Source Code Control provider and have noticed a couple of problems in the integration. Versions used (tools/platforms):
    * Win7 (x86, x64)
    * Perforce P4V 2010.2
    * Perforce SCC plugin 2010.2
    * LabWindows 2010
    Problem 1 (bug)
Having a P4 workspace root in the workspace/client specification that differs only in casing from the actual path is causing the problems, even as we are working under Windows. Description:
    - We can associated a CVI workspace with a Perforce workspace using "Edit/Project/Source Code Control" etc (we do get some initial warnings when we do this for the first time, but after reopening the project all is well).
    - If the P4 workspace root path has the wrong casing compared to the actual local path, the project can be successfully opened and operations are available under "Tools/Source Code Control", but the files in the project (which do exist in Perforce) does not show any SCC overlay icons.
This makes it impossible to check out/work with the files contained in the project. As an example, it is e.g. possible to add a new file to the project and get the "add to source code control" dialog opened and select OK to add the file to the project/SCC. After this the file is still not indicated as under source control (opening e.g. P4V correctly shows the file as being opened for add, though). Similar for other operations.
We have reported this to Perforce software as well, but as we haven't seen the same problems for other software using the P4 SCC Plugin, it's likely to be a problem with the CVI SCC integration.
The problem is easy to fix once you recognize it, but diagnosing this took the better part of two working days.
    Problem 2 (bug)
This one is easy enough to work around, but annoying. When performing SCC operations on the project file, the overlay icon isn't updated to reflect the new status automatically. An example:
If you right-click the project file and select "Check out", the file is checked out from Perforce and made writable, but the overlay still indicates that the file is not checked out. This makes it "impossible" to check in the file again. Same goes when opening a project with the project file checked out and the checking it in.
To get the correct status for the project file, one needs to either restart CVI or select "Tools/Source Code Control/Refresh Status". Highly annoying.
    Problem 3 (bug/usability)
There is no simple way to check in all files currently checked out, when one these files is the project file.
It is possible to multi-select files and include the project file in the selection (using ctrl + left mouse), but when then right-clicking one of the selected files to perform "Check in" the other previously selected files lose their selection. This is only the case when the project file is included in the selection.
The same behavior is shown when selecting as above, but attempting to use the "Tools/Source Code Control/" menu.
The problem seems to boil down to that when several files are selected in the project, and one of them is the project file itself, only one of the files remain selected when opening a menu (any menu).
    Regards,
    Johan Nilsson

Sorry, I didn't see this until today.
Your first two issues definitely sound like bugs, or at the very least poor behavior. My guess is that #1 is probably our fault, but I'm not completely sure on that. I'm filing a bug report on this to make sure it gets investigated. #2 will also be looked at.
While your third issue is a little annoying in this use case, there's a reason for it. When you right click on an item in the project tree, we have to determine what type of object it is, and then display the approriate context menu accordingly. Projects and Source files have completely different context menus, and most of the operations you can perform on the two are different. For simplicity and a better user experience we only display the context menu for the item that was right-clicked on, and we deselect other files of that type. We won't be changing this.
    Thanks for reporting these issues.

  • Updating LabVIEW version and Perforce

I have several large projects in LabVIEW that were previously saved into perforce.  The issue I'm having is that after upgrading to a newer version of LabVIEW (2011) every time I open one of these projects that were saved in a pervious version (2010) I have to go through all the hassle of having everything recompile for the new version, also it can become a headache to tell what I've actually changed and what simply wants to be saved again because of the version change.  So my question is this:  how can I check out an entire project in perforce (and all the VIs within that project), have labview update all the files in that project (essentially I want everything to act as if it were opened, saved, then closed so all labview version changes, type def changes etc. will be saved) and then check it all back into perforce.
There just has to be an easier way than doing this file by file...
    Thanks in advance.

Do you have P4V (the visual Perforce client) installed?  If not, install it, it's free.  Then, in P4V, right-click on the folder containing your LabVIEW project and check out the entire folder.  Open the project in LabVIEW, Save All, and then back in P4V submit the recompiled code.

THAT you can't change. Silly of Apple not to provide a setting to back out the animation effects either as a whole or individually.

  • Software update, nothing but headaches.....

About two weeks ago, I woke up to a message on my phone that said a software update had been downloaded and the phone needed to restart to install. I wish I'd known then what a headache this was going to cause me.
A few days later I noticed that my phone wasn't ringing, my notification sounds weren't playing, and my alarm was going off on the screen but no sound. I always use my phone as my alarm clock, but can't trust it now. I turned my phone off and back on and the problem resolved. It has done it 5 or 6 more times since then. I'm on call for my job every three weeks, and I couldn't trust that my phone was going to ring this past week. Very frustrating.
I've also had an increase in problems making calls and typing text messages. When I try to make a call it acts like it is connecting but I don't hear the phone ring or anything. My husband said it is connecting, and he can hear me, but I can't hear anything. When typing text messages, it will freeze up and I have to exit the message and go back in before it will let me type.
I'm loathe to do a factory reset because of the amount of time it takes to get the phone back to the way I like it. Is this going to be my only option? When I first got my Droid 2, it was replaced twice in the first three months because I had nothing but problems. The 2nd time was a refurbished Droid 2 Global and it has been an OK phone. I've spent so much time dealing with technical issues though that I'm about ready to send Verizon a bill for my time.
I'm not able to upgrade until August, but I can assure you I will never buy another Motorola phone.
Is anyone else having the same problems since the update? Any solutions to the problems I'm having?

Have you tried booting in Safe Mode and see if the device works as needed?   Try follow these steps and if this doesnt help then I would say its time to try a hared reset because issues do have a habit of showing its evil head after a update because of the update process changes and updates files but doesnt delete any personal settings and the old settings sometimes cause issues..
Try booting in Safe Mode and then consider a Hard Rest.
    Enable Safe Mode
Press and hold the Power button.
    Select Power off.
    Slide the keyboard open.
    Press the Power button.
Press and hold the OK key.
Continue to hold the OK key until Safe mode appears in the lower-left of the unlock screen.
This may take up to 30 seconds.
While in Safe Mode, remove the most recently installed applications.
Power cycle the device then attempt to use the device.
If the device works properly, install applications one at a time to identify the application causing the problem.

  • New iPod Touch, Can't get iTunes to work, extra headaches

    Hello,
This is my first day in the Apple world: I caved and thought it would be good to get a new mp3/video player after my last one died. I ended up getting a 4th Gen Black iPod Touch - not sure if the color matters, but why not?
Anyway, my second problem (first being the weird packaging, of tape through plastic then stuck on) started with iTunes: the thing just would NOT download. Every time I tried, the website kept saying "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to completecould not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor." That's just great: I can't get any music or video ONTO my iTouch without iTunes...right?
After browsing around I found an older version of iTunes that seemed to work. Yay! But not really. Nobody ever mentioned that .flac and .avi files can't be imported into iTunes at all...so I had to go hunting online for third party converters. This took care of THAT problem...
However, now that conversion is up, the older version of iTunes won't pick up my iPod Touch and Sync it. There is actually a "Sync iPod" button under "File" tab, but it's grayed out and I can't use it.
Not entirely sure if this is why, but according to a few people, when a new iTunes comes out, the older one stops functioning as fully as it originally did, forcing people to upgrade their iTunes in order to make it work like normal.
I tried to find a third party program to pick up my iPod Touch so I could upload files, but no luck. I feel like an idiot for not knowing how to turn source code into a program, and the binary installers I did find were user-hostile (ie. Right clicking to bring up a menu actually plays the movie and there's no stop button, you have to end task from the task manager). Windows Explorer only shows one folder in my iPod Touch, which is empty and four letters long, which gives no clue as to what it is.
So here's my big question: now that I finally am fully ready to upload my files to my iPod Touch, I can't. Why?
Is it my version of iTunes? Why can't I download iTunes' newest version? Why does updating from the older version yield the same result (though I'm sure both installers are the same)? Is there another way to get all my media onto my device?
Thanks in advance...talk about a four hour headache...

I've used the Reset Network Settings feature in my iPod Touch after every failed attempt to connect to my wireless network. I've also reset the wireless access point and router after making changes to them.
It appears that my Touch is finding the wireless network, accepting the security password/key, and connecting to the wireless access point and router (I get a full signal on the strength indicator). However, the Touch appears to be acquiring the IP Address automatically, right? Thus, it gets the IP Address starting with "169". If I can manually set up the TCP/IP settings, I believe I can get it to connect. Is there a way to set up the TCP/IP settings manually?

  • How do I use Perforce Source Control on a substituted drive

    Hello all,
I am wrestling my way through using perforce as an integrated source control package in Labview.
The path has many potholes but seems possible.
    My latest challenge:
    Substituted Paths.
In a professional source control environment there are many users with many views/workspaces and it is good proactice for each one to have a unique name [user][machine][branchname][myprojectstructure]
Labview is notorious for requiring fixed, absolute paths due to the way .vi's remember their callers, my previous practice using IBM/Rational clearcase was to substitue ("subst B: ." ) the project root [myprojectstructure] to another drive, say B: for example.  This makes Labview is happy as the paths are now fixed, the developer is happy as they don't have to check out a miriad of files.
This practice is widespread in the embedded software development world and isn't exactly innovative.
    Perforce
Clearcase integrated into Labview works seamlessly, you just point the path to the substituted drive and all is well.
    Perforce, not so much.
The setup options within labview whilst being intuitive and easy to use, don't appear allow this method.
Does anyone know how to do the equivalent in Perforce?
    Thanks in advance,
    Tim L.

    Thanks John,
I will see if this works
I hadn't thought about substituting the drive first and then populating the workspace.
I can see that this implimentation requires discipline,
There is a significant danger of refreshing the wrong workspace and trashing modified files.

  • Choosing Office 2013 volume licensing plan ... or going retail ... or subscription ... or hunting for 2010 ... what a headache ...

Our company currently runs an office software equivalent comparable to Office 2003 level. I was researching options (licensing!) for stepping up our office to real Microsoft Office product ... and got stuck with that idea ... totally confused at this point.
Am I missing something or the cheapest SMB volume licensing option for MS Office 2013 (Standard, no Access component) is like twice as expensive as the retail equivalent? Why is that so? It makes no sense to me at all.
I can find retail box of Office 2013 Home and Business for around $190 while the cheapest Open License for similar equivalent seems to be priced at $369 (what!?) ... and that is even without Software Assurance?
Makes it kinda hard to convince management about benefits of VL program over retail ... especially since we are not a Volume Licensed customer (yet) and this purchase *might* make it worth becoming one (does it?).
On top of that I can't even make decision if we should really go with Office 2013 after reading about live/online account requirement for activation, and here a question how does it work in volume licensing version? I assume it will be a great pain with
installs from retail media and activation, but VL should have some tools or workarounds for that, no? I read that Office 2010 didn't have such problems and am sad I didn't push towards it when it was still available on retail market.
Maybe we should go with 2013 subscription for first year and see how that works for us ...
One thing for sure, I've been digging around this subject for weeks and my headache doesn't want to go away.
    Open to suggestions.

    anybody, any insights?
Pls, also note that I run a one person IT department for this company, so all the dirty work (installs) will be done by me, hence my question. I can do deployments via GPO, but would like to know about activation gotchas (MS live accounts) for Office 2013,
is that true for retail licenses?
As per Volume Licensing, am I looking right and cheapest 1 computer Office 2013 open license stands for like $369? why is i so expensive in volume licensing plans? I doubt our management approves it this way ... which probably means retail licensing for
me and a great headache with activations over a sneaker net ... times 30 ...

  • Stupid itunes 7.0.1, stupid ipod, stupid headaches!!!

when you first plug in the ipod it udates photos, songs, and whatever else like any ordinary ipod. but every since itunes updated a week ago i've been getting headaches with my 5th generation ipod. i get an error message "The iPod cannot be updated. dell   Windows XP

    dell   Windows XP

Same problem here, but can't get through to 5 songs. Only reason I updated was to dload videos from iTunes, since it won't with v. 1.1.1 ( I mean can't dload purchased videos from iTunes store. Ones that I converted transfer ok in v 1.1.1)
Can't restore through iTunes, have to do it through the updater. Restored, worked fine until I updated to v 1.2 again. iPod is useless now.
    Any ideas?

  • MacBook Pro Retina 15 - Eyestrain and Headaches

    Hello all!
I would like to come back to the eyestrain topic. This problem was discussed intensively, and I've been following the long thread about LED causing eyestrain on MacBooks, but I don't know if we reached a conclusion.
Well. I bought a MacBook Pro Retina 15 (Mid 2014) three weeks ago and since then I have eyestrain, headaches, red eyes and dry eyes daily. I've never felt such things in years working with computers.
Like some people, I think that I don't have issues with LED screens. My old laptop has a glossy LED screen, I have LED TV in my house and I never ever had such symptoms!
I've directly contacted Apple Support too, but the only thing they've told me is that I should have my eyes checked, since there is nothing wrong with the machine. ****! My eyes are not the problem too! I am 29 years old, and I wear reading glasses, because I have small degree of myopia.... my lens have a special coating anti-glare and with UV protection (Crizal). But nothing seems to help me to have a painless experience using the rMBP. Due to that eyestrain, I went to an opthamologist, but he hasn't found anything wrong with my eyes!
I feel tremendously sad, frustrated and disappointed that this is happening with me (and other people), even more when this is my first Apple product. So sad.
Well, guys. I don't know what to do anymore! I tried everything that I could: went to the doctor, increased and lowered the resolution (i am using Best for retina now), increased and lowered the screen brightness; tried to use f.lux app and Shades. And these symptoms appears both when using the Intel Iris as the GT 750M. I'm using Mavericks, but tried the Yosemite too.
    Nothing worked!
I still don't tried to put a screen protector, but I guess that also will not work. By the way, someone knows a good screen protector to test?
Besides, anyone knows if this issue is due the LED backlid, software related, PWD, refresh rate or what? Anyone reached a conclusion? Or, more important, anyone knows how to fix it?
Apple never expressed respect. And although we are the exception, I think it would be important to have a satisfaction about what is happening. And not just talk that the problem is in our eyes.
I would not want to get rid the machine - I liked it very much! But I think that sell this Mac is the only way to me. I don't want to stay with a computer that I can't use like I want, because it is hurting me.
This is very disapointing... so if anyone could help me, I'll be very glad.
    Thank you, guys!
Sorry for any inconvenience and my english, it's not my native language.

The best option is an appointment at an Apple store genius bar and have the technicians diagnose the problem.
    Ciao.

  • Time Machine, Migration Assistant, and a BIG headache

Set up my new rMBP from a time machine backup on external and worked great. I removed some applications from the dock that didn't transfer over successfully (i.e. Word 2004). I didn't include iTunes during the transfer.  Once time machine restore was complete, everything on the rMBP worked great.  I wanted to get my iTunes from the external and so I used the Migration Assistant to copy over JUST the music.  I unchecked all the boxes except Music.  Took over 1 hour just to copy over 30GB of music and so I was suspicious...
After completion, I see that it copied over my music, BUT
         - all Documents gone
         - applications previously deleted WERE BACK (i.e. Word 2004)
Went back to my old 2010 MBP to do another time machine backup, and signed into Mail....
Signed into Mail on the rMBP....
Got an email that my apple ID was used to sign into iCloud....
Then now rMBP Mail can't access ANY of my email accounts....
What in the world happened?  I just wanted to copy over my Music and now it's a BIG headache.....
I knew I should have avoided Migration Assistant and should have transferred over Music upon initial setup of the rMBP....
Tried to restore the rMBP from time machine but cannot b/c the time machine backup was done under snow leopard....
So uninstalled Mavericks and reinstalling....1 hour wait to download...
Then (hopefully) will restore from time machine (make sure to include Music this time)....which takes about 2 hours....
So 3 hours just to get Music, when it should just be a simple copy/paste job....
On the bright side, I got a Samsung display and so I'm happy with that...the display is sharp, evenly bright, and no creaking case

    Hey hp12c,
Thanks for the question. The following article may provide the information you are looking for:
    Mac Basics: Time Machine
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1427
    Restoring specific files or folders
Choose Enter Time Machine from the Time Machine menu and the restore interface appears. You can literally see your windows as they appeared "back in time."
You can use the timeline on the right side of the window to reach a certain point back in time (the timeline shows the times of all backups on your backup drive). If you don’t know exactly when you deleted or changed a file, you can use the back arrow to let Time Machine automatically travel through time to show you when that folder last changed.
Note: Dates in pink indicate the data resides on your Time Machine backup device. Dates in white indicate the data resides on your Mac. In OS X Mountain Lion and Lion, portable Macs have the feature of local snapshots. See this article for details.
You can also perform a Spotlight search in the Time Machine Finder Window search field to find a file. Simply type the Spotlight search field and use the back arrow to have Time Machine search through your backups to find what you are looking for.
Before you restore a file, you can also use Quick Look to preview a file to make sure its the one you want. Highlight the file and press the Space Bar to bring up a quick look.
To restore, select the file/folder and click the "Restore" button. The file will automatically be copied to the desktop or appropriate folder.  If the file you are restoring has another file in the same location with the same name, you will be prompted to choose which file to keep or keep both.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • BUG: Perforce Plugin having problems on JDev 10.1.3.0.4 (SU4) on Mac OS X

I've downloaded the Perforce plugin, and try to connect to the Perforce server here. When I click Versioning > Connect to Perforce... first it takes a long time for the dialog box to open, next I fill in:
    - username
    - password
    - leave remember password unchecked
    - port
    - client
But neither the "Test Connection" button, or "OK" button is enabled. I've tried this combination of entering data into the dialog fields, and many other combinations (leave password blank, etc...) No combination enables these two buttons. This leaves me unable to connect to Perforce! Please help....
    My Environment:
Mac OS X (Intel) on a Mac Book Pro
    P4 Command Line tools installed
    P4 Server: Server version: P4D/LINUX24X86/2005.2/94595 (2006/03/05)
    JDev 10.1.3.0.4

    UML Modelers Version     10.1.3.37.26
    Versioning Support     10.1.3.36.73

Try setting P4PORT and P4CLIENT in a command shell, then launching JDeveloper from the shell using start jdeveloper.app.
If the port is picked up correctly the client dropdown should be populated and the OK button enabled. This works for me.
The same should work from the gui though, I'll investigate and see if there is a bug logged.
    Thanks,

  • How do you install Perforce as daemon on OS X Snow Leopard Server?

I recently purchased a mac mini with Snow Leopard Server, and I am interested in installing Perforce as a daemon. I am familiar on how to do this on a Linux distro, but not so much on Snow Leopard Server. Is there some documentation that explains how daemons are configured on a mac? If so a link would be nice.
For my use case, I have the p4d executable. Basically what I am looking for is a way to integrate it as a service like the rest of the default services which ship with the product.
As a fall back, if this can't be done, the minimum I'm looking for is a way to configure it to start via a mechanism like init.d or the mac equivalent.

    Some newly discovered info:<br>
This bug is specific to 64-bit versions of Firefox. Starting in Firefox 4 Beta 7, [http://boomswaggerboom.wordpress.com/2010/11/10/firefox-4-for-mac-os-x-under-the-hood/ Firefox is offered as a i386/x86_64 universal binary] to Mac users, and defaults to 64-bit mode on OS X 10.6.
If you run Firefox in 32-bit mode, you should see the QT plugin again. Like I said earlier, the bug is marked as blocking the release of Beta 8, which means that if everything else is finished for Beta 8, it won't be released until this bug is fixed.

  • Error 1714, Installing Adobe Reader 9.0 = HEADACHE

    Hello all,
I spent several hours on this problem and I begin to have a headache ... I try to install Adobe Reader 9 with a GPO and an MST. It seems that my old GPO (Adobe Reader 8.1.2) can not be properly uninstall ...
I must install Adobe Reader 9 on more than 600 computers ... I spend a lot of time on forums and websites, and the only possible solution is to run the "Windows CleanUp Utility "on each ordinteurs ... You imagine the time that his takes me!
I wonder if there was a other solution. I hope you can help me!
    Thanks.
    Olivier

    Hi Pat,
Thank you for your answer! Yes indeed I have the same problem on nearly 600 machines ... Whenever I try to uninstall version 8.1.2 on clients computers, it says it can not find the installation source ... No matter if I use the command "msi /x" or the Windows Uninstaller... But the source has never changed! It's on a DFS, in the same place!
It's certain that if I install the package on a clean computer, everything should work fine. But I can not format 600 machines, each time I want to install Adobe Reader ...
I know I am not alone in having this problem ... I hope someone has already found a solution!
    Thanks!
