Perform Windows _lopen command in Java
Hi all,
I would need to know if there is a possibilty to call the Windows Kernel Function "_lopen" in Java. Background is that I need to exclusively lock a File in a Win2K environment, so that another process can not access it.
The other process uses the _lopen command so it would be the correct way to use the same method (or it's Java representation) on my side.
So, is there a possibility to use this method from Java?!

Sure enough you can't execute commands on the system from an applet unless you make some changes on the java.policy files on the client machine (that means, if your applet is in a web page, every machine which view your page).

Calling Windows XP FTP Command in java
Hi there!
Need help in calling Windows XP FTP command in java:
executing the FTP command in DOS works well, but when I tried calling it in java using Process and Runtime objects, it successfully transferred the files from remote to my local pc... but I seemed to be stuck with .exec() and cannot continue with the other statements.
I know that I can use eFTPj or Apache Commons Net .. but I have no more time to study it since I have no more time left.
Any idea or suggestion? I badly need your help�

Executing shell commands from Java.
I want to execute shell commands in Java using the Runtime.exec( String ) method.
The method works fine under Linux OS, but under Windows '98 the method didn't work at all!
For example the following call: Runtime.exec( "dir" ) throws an exception showing that the command was not completed. If I replace dir with ls under Linux all is good. What is the problem with the Microsoft Windows '98 ? Is there any solution at my problem ?!

I run Dos Commands on Java by following code

If I run "mkdir" instead of "dir" folder is created in current directory. But in case of "dir" listing of file folders is not displayed to me . means "dir " is not running.

1- Open a terminal.
2- execute command.
The same is working fine in windows , the step for windows are:-
1- execute cmd.exe
2- go to prompt
3- execute command.
How to do it for Solaris 10 ??? Any cmd.exe equivalent for solaris terminal???This is done in the exact same way. You open a terminal (depending on your gui its called "console" or "this computer" (CDE), and "Gnome console" (iirc) in the Java desktop) and then you're home free. "javac", "java", etc. should all be in your search path.
If not look in /usr/java. -
Problem while running dos command from java program

I need to terminate a running jar file from my java program which is running in the windows os.
For that i have an dos command to find process id of java program and kill by using tskill command.
Command to find process id is,
wmic /output:ProcessList.txt process where "name='java.exe'" get commandline,processid
This command gives the ProcessList.txt file and it contains the processid. I have to read this file to find the processid.
when i execute this command in dos prompt, it gives the processid in the ProcessList.txt file. But when i execute the same command in java program it keeps running mode only.

In order to connect from windows to the unix server, I used the sockets and the connection is successfully established. The second part is to check for the presence of the file in unix server. I searched in google.com and the option I found to execute a unix command from java is the "Runtime.exec()". Runtime.exec is considered as the less effective (not a favorable) one.
Is there any other option available (other than the Runtime) to execute the unix command from java? Can you please let me know.

You want something to run on the server, not the client.
That means that something must in fact being running on the server before the client does anything at all.
For example telnet. Or a J2EE server application.
So is something like that running?
If not then there absolutely no way to do what you want, even with Runtime.exec().
If yes then what you do depends on what is running. So Runtime.exec() would be pointless if a J2EE server was running.
