Performa 630CD Ethernet Asante MacCon LC

Hello I have a Asante MacCon LC and I can't seem to find out how to get it to work I installed EtherTalk from http://www.asante.com/downloads/legacy/asante561.sea.hqx and it still does not work the troubleshooter program says
Memory Test Passed
NIC Test Passed
No reponse from other Macintosh.
When I had the router setup and when I hocked it up to my macintosh it said the same thing.
It sees the card I know that.
Here is my setup
I have an Iogear GWA502 router, Performa 630CD with 36MB of ram and Mac OS 8.
Th Adapter Information.
Card Type:MacCon LC - A
Node Address: 00:00:94:6A:77:E5
RAM sizee: 32KB
Driver Version: 7.3.5
Thanks for any help.
Mr. Gecko

I think you may have a more fundamental problem. It sounds like that card is not working. But one more thing to try is to give that Mac a Manual IP Address in the same range as the others on your network.
example for Router at 192.168.0.1
• manually assign: 192.168.0.99
• Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 -- match in first three octets to be on same subnet.
• Domain Name Server address -- as specified by your ISP
• specify router address at 192.168.0.1
If your Router has a different address, you would change those numbers so that the manual address was near the router address, and insert your actual Router Address in place of 192.168.0.1.

  • Hardware thoughts on performa 630CD

Here recently I pulled my old performa 630CD out of the attic to use out in my garage. While she fired up running 7.6, I wanted to upgrade it to 7.6.1.
The problem was I burned a CD to install 7.6.1, but did not know the CD drive was not working. Thinking it was the drive gone bad, I placed another one in.
The CD still didn't show up. So now I thinking it is something related to the CD drive. I have power to the drive, but can not get the CD to mount.
    Any thoughts?

    Hello Kyle,
A few things I'm not clear on: Does the CD drive get
power to open and close? I believe you said it did
in a previous post, but do both of the drives do the
    same thing?
Yes, and yes. I even tried a 3rd drive
Have you tried a commercial CD, if you have any?
Even an audio CD would be a good way to test the
    functionality of the drive.
    Tried both.
When you insert a CD into the performa, does
anything appear on the display? Perhaps a box
saying "This disc is not readable by this Macintosh"?
Do you hear the CD spin up in the drive?
    No, no, and no.
If you can hear the drive spinning, but nothing
happens on the computer, it could be a software
problem. Open the System Folder and then the
Extensions folder. Make sure the Apple CD-ROM
    extension is present.
    It is present.
You could also verify this by
going to the Extensions Manager control panel (Apple
Menu> Control Panels> Extensions Manager). Make sure
there is a check next to the extensions relating to
the CD ROM drive. You could also try choosing "Mac
OS 7.6 All" from the drop-down menu at the top.
Have done.., but still nothing even after rebooting.
If you happen to have the original CDs that came with
the computer, or any bootable CD (norton utilities,
etc), try booting form one of them. Insert the CD,
and restart the computer with the C key held down.
If it boots from the CD, then you have a functioning
Cd drive, but something isn't right with your system
    folder.
No, even the system disk 7.6 will not mount.
As far as browsing goes, it is possible, but its not
the best experience in the world. There are other
machines that would be faster, but there's nothing
wrong with using a 68k for browsing. And, without
Flash and related plugins, you won't be annoyed by
    quite as many ads
    Hope that helps some.
    Kyle-
    Thanks for your input kyle.
More than anything else, it was an attempt to make something useful again.
Plus, I wanted to show my boys (7 & 9) what a pre OS X system looked like and how it differed from OS X, plus use for my vehicle research in the garage.
    Thanks again for your insight.

  • Performa 6320CD ethernet connection?

Okay, so I have a Performa 6320CD running System 7.5.3 (soon to be 8.1) and with a Sonic Systems Commslot I Ethernet card going directly to a cable modem hooked directly into a cable jack. It gives me an option to switch to Ethertalk, but gives me a generic "can't switch" error. It also isn't set up for TCP/IP, which I can fix with Open Transport, but I can't seem to find a download, on Apple's official website or otherwise that unstuffs and boots without error.
    Any suggestions/help?

Are you using the versions from the
    Older Apple software downloads
Look for these download links (but read the .txt file first):

  • Air Parrot performance with Ethernet cable ?

    Hello Everyone,
I am very impressed by mirroring functionality provided by Airplay of apple tv. I have a 2010 Macbook pro purchased in mid 2010. Unfortunately, my mac doesn't have quicksynch tehncology hardware support for airplay to work in mountain lion. So, I never upgrader to ML. However, I have been playing around with Air Parrot. I have noticed a lot of choppiness while playing videos.
Both my macbook and apple tv are currently using Wi-Fi. I am guessing the lack of smoothness in video mirroring is because of wi-fi. Has any one tested by using ethernet cables. I mean connecting both MB and ATv to broadband modem using ethernet cables? Did it improve video quality ?
    Thanks in advance.

I got a Mid-2010 iMac (i3) and a ATV3. I faced some performance issues while streaming HD-video content from the web (3 Mbit DSL) and tranfering by WiFi (incl. a APExpress as repeater) to Mac and back to ATV via Airparrot (mirroring). So I have tried Dlan (Devolo 500) as an alternative to WiFi. Performance has improved significantly ! Now I am quite happy (but still anoyed that Apple does not support older machines with mirroring on ML).
But i guess my i3-iMac is now quite at the border of it's video coding/decoding performance.
---> give Ethernet (or Dlan) a try.

  • 15" ADC to Performa?

I assume there is no way to use a 15" Apple Display with ADC cable with a Performa 630CD or a Mac IIvx, correct? There is likely no adapter and/or the video cards don't support?
    Thanks for any input.....

Unless you can change the cable to a DB 15, no sorry you are out of luck. I don't recall ever seeing any adaptors for such a gender change.
For the cost of an adaptor it's probably better to just find a 14" monitor there were many types but the first version was the best as it had a Sony tube later Apple monitors were made with cheaper parts. I think the one's you should avoid are the Performa and Performa Plus.

  • Wireless Vs Ethernet Testing

I have just purchased a new NAS (Synology DS413).
I am in the process of Transfering Data back to this device and come across and oddity, that I am looking for advise on how to troubleshoot.
    Test Environment
Mid 2011 iMac - OSX Lion - Ethernet Connection
RMBP - OSX Mountain Lion - Wireless 5 Ghz
Gigabit Switch + Airport Extreme with Wireless N
I had a 3.6GB DMG file which I wanted to transfer to the NAS.
    RMBP     - Approx 9 minutes
    iMac         - Approx 1 minute
I would not expect such a big difference in network performance between Ethernet and Wireless.
Can anyone provide any information on tools that I can use to measure actual network performance on Mac.

I would, especially with gigabit ethernet.

  • Supplementing Airport Extreme 802.11n network with Gigabit Ethernet wired

Right now, I have an AEBS (Gigabit Ethernet) as my Internet router and network host, with an Airport Express elsewhere in the house to extend range for wireless devices. I'm steadily gaining A/V items with Internet or networking connectivity. AEBS and the A/V equipment are in different rooms. I am concerned that setting those devices up for wireless will cause needless complexity with inferior performance to Ethernet.
Here is what I think I should do:
    1. Get wall panels installed by both the AEBS and A/V equipment wired for Ethernet;
    2. Set up a Gigabit Ethernet switch in the basement, into which all these Ethernet outlets would run; and
    3. Connect both the AEBS and the various A/V devices into the wall (and thereby through to the Ethernet switch) through their Ethernet ports. The goal is to have all of the devices on the same AEBS-hosted network to share data and have access to the AEBS Internet connection.
Any reason this should not work? Would the AEBS and the Ethernet switch need to be in the same room for any reason? I'd just like to make sure all of my ports are running in the right direction. In particular, I'd like to know if I am making this more complicated than it needs to be.
    Thanks for your comments.

What you are planning should work without any problems.

  • Preforma 630CD Hard Drive

Hello I have a Performa 630CD and I'm trying to replace my 250MB hard drive with a 6GB hard drive and I can't get my Performa to read the hard drive I have partitioned it to 900 something MB on each partition and formated it to HFS Standard and no luck. I think it has to do with the jumpers and I don't know where to possession it I have two jumpers and the hard drive came from a iMac G3 333Mhz. I can hear the hard drive spin up when the computer starts up.
The reason I'm doing this is because the 250MB hard drive died with a power problem.
    Thanks for any help.
    Mr. Gecko

What you need to do is install drivers using a version of Drive Setup in an OS which the computer is capable of running. Grant says not OS9 (I am glad he is here to point out these things that never occur to me). [This website|http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macperforma/stats/mac_performa630.html] says your Performa supports OS 7.1.2-8.1 You need to start it up using one of those operating systems. It isn't so much a matter of using Leopard; it's a matter of anything from OS9 up will only be able to install OS9 drivers.
I was going to suggest that if you had Classic you could maybe get an OS7 version of Drive Setup off the free OS7 download from Apple and try running it in Classic, then do hte drive that way. I have no idea if that would work, but now I notice you are running Leopard with no Classic capability. In that case probably your best bet would be to download OS7.5.3, burn it to CD and boot the computer that way. Then do your drive things.

  • Streaming from MBP to xbox360

I have tried Connect360, Playback, and now am currently using Rivet.  When I am streaming larger files (HD) to my xbox I get hiccups in my video every 7 mins. or so.  I have wireless N router,N adapter for xbox, and MBP is wireless N.
I Want to know if there's anything I can do with any of the devices to speed up my stream so it doesn't hiccup anymore.
    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    Greetings,
I use Connect360 myself without issue between my Macbook Pro and my xBox on my Airport Extreme wireless network.  Your Airport card inside your MBP automatically adjusts its speed (frequency) and channel when you tell it to join a specific wireless network so there is nothing to do to speed up the connection on the Mac side.  You can check the speed and channel by holding down the option key while clicking on the Airport menu at the top right of the screen.
    Couple of thoughts:
Streaming video is EXTREMELY taxing on networks, more so than just about anything else you do.  When you're streaming video don't run other programs on your computer that feed off the network (web browsers, chat, email, file sharing programs, etc.).   Keep in mind other computers or devices (cell phones, tablets, game consoles, etc) that use the network for internet access are also tapping into the network so they could be a factor as well.  If you have 2 other computers on the network playing games online or streaming music, they are fighting for the attention of the router.
Turn off sleep and hard disk sleep in Energy Saver Settings on the MBP. (This will impact battery life if you aren't running off the AC adapter)
Hardwire the xBox directly into the router.  I ran my xBox on the wireless adapter for some time and found I preferred the performance of ethernet.  Consider doing this as a test even if you don't want to keep it this way.  If it works then you know you have a problem with your router (update its firmware perhaps) or the wireless adapter.
Run WPA2 security on your router -- WPA2 is the preferred encryption protocol for Macs at this time.
Change the channel on your router -- most modern routers auto-detect for interference and choose a less crowded channel but it might be worth a shot, especially if you are in an area with lots of wireless traffic (if you see more than 6 other wireless networks in your Airport menu I call that lots, although these days…)
Have any friends with a Mac?  Have them bring it over and see if they also have the same issue with breaks in the video stream.  If so then this is most likely an issue with the router or the wireless adapter.
    Hope that helps.

  • Benefits of hard wiring vs wi-fi

Current I a have a Motorola SB6141 modem and an Airport Extreme 5th generation. I have everything running off wireless with the exception of one hardwired garage door opener which only supports ethernet. I have TWC internet with 100 down and 10 upload. I'm getting those advertised speed when I run speedtest on my laptop, typically getting 107 Mb/s down and 10 Mb/s up with 14-16 latency. I was thinking about getting a Dlink switch, as the 3 included on my Airport would not be enough, and hardwiring all devices I have in range of the router but I don't know if I'll see any benefits from that. I do get a pretty frequent T3 and T4 time outs which seem to be common with the SB6141 and Airport combo but I don't think hard wiring will change that. Is there any advantage of hard wiring given my performance and circumstances or am I better off with my current setup?

To understand the difference you need to really understand how ethernet and wireless are different.. and if that matter to you.
Wireless has one link and it is half duplex.. that means it can either send or receive but not both at the same time.
(In the case of the Extreme it is dual band so you have two links.. but let me leave that for now).
Say I have 6 computers or devices.. all need network access at the same time. Wireless will time slice each computer.. they should all get 1/6 of the time.. and because it is half duplex it will either have the computer sending or the router sending.. not both at the same time. Total bandwidth available is around 60-80Mbps at 2.4ghz and about twice that at 5ghz.. so lets say 160Mbps.
If all the computers are after the same piece of bandwidth.. your internet connection.. this is fine.. as you experienced.. you achieve your full upload and download speed..
Now lets go fully ethernet.. Ethernet can have all computers talking at the same time.. and it is duplex so all computers can send and receive at the same time and it is gigabit speed. That means total bandwidth for your 6 computers is 12,000Mbps (if I use the same standard as wireless).
Of course if all are trying to reach the same resource.. your 107Mbps download from internet it will behave exactly as wireless does..
If on the other hand.. one computer is storing a file on another computer.. and another computer is playing a video stream from a NAS.. and another computer is running a backup to the same NAS.. with ethernet they can do all of that with out any issues.. by wireless.. they get to share.. limited bandwidth because wireless simply cannot go any faster.
Ethernet is 99.9999% reliable.. it has zero packet loss. It is highly efficient with low overheads.
Wireless is somewhere between 0-50% reliable.. it has significant packet loss at all times.. it has high overheads. It is a technological form of voodoo.. it does not ever perform as it is promoted to perform.
Ethernet is a pain to wire .. expensive to do properly.. and thereafter you will be glad you did it.
Wireless is fast to install.. very low cost.. you will pay for it hereafter in reliability issues.. slow speeds and headaches.

I've tried changing the ports, trying different bandwith speeds using both quicktime stream settings and the bandwith limit settings, but to no avail. Firewall is set to allow all incoming connections. The connection does work sometimes with people up here at school on the wireless network.
Any help is much appreciated ahead of time
    Thank You

    a few things to check..
    1. On your Mac, make sure your iChat AIM port is set to 443.
    2. On your router at home, make sure you have UPnP turned-on.
    3. On your Mac, set your Quicktime streaming speed to 1.5 Mbps T1/Internet LAN
    4. On your Mac, set iChat video bandwidth limit to 1Mbps.
    5. On your Mac, test your wireless bandwidth speed using http://www.speedtest.com/ You might not have enough effective bandwidth over your wireless router. This is even more true if you are a few rooms away from your wireless router. If the test shows an up/down bandwidth of about <500Kbps then you probably have a problem with your wireless.
    6. On your Mac, test your Internet performance over Ethernet by hooking up your Mac directly to the router; that is, don't use wireless. If this works, then it's probably your wireless connection and not the Mac or the Apple Genius bar.

  • New Macbook c2d en route -- how do i get files of its ancient predecessors?

i ordered my c2d macbook from macmall. the rebates do look like a PITA, but they're substantial -- not only $100 on the computer, but $70 on Parallels which I ordered at the same time. i've bought from them in the past without troubles, and hope to have the same experience; if not, i still haven't paid a premium so worth the gamble. UPS says it's made it from memphis to knoxville so far, so half way home.
my question though is how i'm going to get my files from my inspiron to my new macbook, and from an old performa i have to my macbook. the performa runs os9, so i understand that i can't use the migrate capabilities of osX. it doesn't have USB, much less firewire, so that route is out. so... if everything is connected through a router, hopefully my macbook will see the performa and i can just copy over? will it see the dell? i don't have a burner on either old computer, so can't do it that way. any tips?
also, can i run OS9 on the macbook, so i can use some of the old software i have? i haven't seen anything on that. sure would add to my capabilities while i wait for versions of the sw that are made for the intel chip....
    thanks in advance.

If the Performa has ethernet, then you can create a Net between your new MacBook and the Performa (using an ethernet cable, I don't think you'll need a crossover cable).
You may be able to run OS 9 in your macbook via one emulation software, like Basilisk (emulates a 68K mac) or SheepShaver (emulates a PPC mac). You will also need your original OS9 disks and to extract your Performa's ROM.
I stepped from a PowerBook 190cs to a MacBook and I've been able to run OS 7.5.5 via Basilisk and use some of my old software. I had some problems moving files from the older system to the new, because of the way OSX treats resources, so to move some old applications I recommend that you compress then (.zip or .sit).

  • Having trouble with my Xtreme Gamer sound card

I have an Alienware computer that came with the card and its software pre-installed. It has worked fine until today when BF2 would no longer recognize the card. When I uninstalled the software to reinstall it, it said I didn't have any devices. What should I do? I want to refrain from opening the case. Thanks!

Ya know, it is funny I ran across this thread. I am having the exact same problem with my Alienware and am currently working at trying to resolve it. So far I tried to force the drivers and it did not seem to like that so much. Older patch I found?didn't work. I think my next step is to uninstall everything creative and crack the case open and try removing the card. Then try a different slot if able or boot the comp a couple times without it, and then install it back in the?same slot. No IRQ?problems I checked that. I read somewhere that sometimes something in the bios can bug out and it needs to be re-checked in. Not sure of the exact terms of it atm, but I hope you get the idea. A quick fix that I did find that should work for you as well is to make sure?all?Creative?drivers are cleaned out and then use windows update to search for optional downloads. It finds a driver for the X-Fi that actually works.
Below is a copy/paste of a request for help?I placed on the Alienware boards just to give you an idea of where I am at. /startcopy?<span class="normalTextSmall">Hello,
I am at my wits end here. So figured I would come here and ask for some input. Basicly the problem I am having is I have poping/crackling sounds coming from my speakers while playing FSX. What is wierd is it only happens in certain missions and/or planes. It also sounded way messed up at the desktop and during sound tests but I was able to fix that by changing the freq to 24bit lowest hrtz setting studio quality.
I have been doing a ton of research into this problem and it would seem if I updated my drivers there is a good chance there is a fix in there for me.. I would hope so as I have tried everything under the sun. Known knowledge and reading every forum I could find.
The big problem I can't seem to over come is that no matter which drivers I use they tell me I am unable to use them because they do not see a Creative X-Fi on my machine. The newest Creative drivers tell me this. Even the Creative drivers that came with my AW backup disk act the same way. The only driver that I could get to work is the one that windows update supplies when the driver is fully uninstalled. What is even funnier is that when I use my AW Respawn disk that is also installs the same exact drivers that Windows Update installs for that card. Which are ancient. Antique really.
So why would no new Creative drivers want to work? No AW supplied backup drivers want to work? No downloaded X-Fi drivers downloaded from AW site want to work. And why would AW give me a driver for backup when even they themselves obviously did not get that one to work because the respawn disk uses the same old drivers windows update supplies when no drivers are installed?
I have tried Winzip to unpack the the .exe file and update wizard says that I have the best drivers already installed. Even though these ones just came out. I have even tried to force the drivers in with the have disk option and that just resulted in an unbootable pc thanks to the blue screen of death right after bios flash screen.
So, how do I get any Creative X-Fi Xtreme Gamer drivers to install. I have to be able to update them, in hopes that they will fix my crackling/static problem..
Just got the machine the other day so I haven't tried installing other games. And I do realize that AW is not respossible for FSX issues. But I really do find it odd that even my backup drivers won't work, and they were not even used anyways during the build process.. I would have hoped this issue would have been fixed in house then. So it has me really concerned.
What is my next step? Bios update?(this computer was built around Nov st 07.), Move card around maybe?(shouldn't this have been done before shipping?).. oh my head hurts from this one. I have never had to fold and give up and come to a forum for help. I am truly stumped.

Any input is greatly appreciated, as I am finding not alot of people out there have machines of this nature. So known issues for this config is far and few between.
<span class="normalTextSmall">/endpaste<span class="normalTextSmall">?<span class="normalTextSmall">So far there have been no reply. Someone from Alienware did call us and got in contact with my wife about the post. They?left a message with her?that I should try and install the newest drivers that Creative just released a few days ago. If they would have actually read my post they would have known I did try that. Really my biggest problem left is to get any Creative driver to see I do indeed have?a Creative X-Fi installed so I may update my drivers. Having a sound issue and not being able to update my drivers is driving me insane really. I?honestly?do feel I can learn more by reading around myself than calling them and wasting away a few good hours on the phone with someone that is?gonna?be just as confused about it as I am. lol?<span class="normalTextSmall">?<span class="normalTextSmall">Going to get the time to crack her open tonight, late night. My ears are wide open on this one.<span class="normalTextSmall">?<span class="normalTextSmall">CB aka CF

  • Is there a way copy old backups from my ext. HD to Time Capsule?

Is there a way to copy the TimeMachine files from my 250GB external hard drive to the TimeCapsule?
If so, what steps do I need to take to do this and insure that everything transfers flawlessly?
    Thanks
    Shimy

I wouldn't try it. I suggest starting with a new backup on the Time Capsule. The first back up should be performed by Ethernet cable.
If you don't need any of the files on the old drive following a successful Time Capsule back up, just erase the drive and its files and use it for data storage.
