Performance and Speed are near Abyssmal.
I have no idea, however, as of late, my MBP has been going through periods where everything slows down significantly. The loading wheel comes up and I can't so much as click on anything... or even enlarge icons in my dock. Everything just comes to a grinding halt.
I have Adobe Photoshop CS3 installed. I realize this may be a huge resource hog, however, when I first got the program back in August, it ran fine. I could even have, say, Safari, Illustrator, PS, and maybe Adium open all at the same time and the computer's performance only changed.. minimally? If that.
Now, it may be the source of alot of my problems. But I don't know!
Also: My hard drive is partitioned without a second OS. It was a goof on the part of the hardware and I have yet to fix it because I have no backup media.
I'm just outlining possible reasons. I do not think that any one of these problems are hurting me but I can't say for certain.
Any possible solutions? Thoughts? I'm just getting really concerned. I'm running off 1 Gig of RAM, but I am familiar with many computers (iMacs, in particular) that are phenomenal at 1 Gig with multiple programs open. It just doesn't make sense.

Poor performance and speed since 21CN Update.
My Wholesale exchange was upgraded to BT21CN at the end of January. (MELLOR, LANCASHIRE)
Before the upgrade :

We pay for full unlimited BT Broadband however since the change to 21CN and a 20Mbps connection our service is now worse ! It almost feels as if we are being penalised or throttled for video and anything from outside the UK

My macbook internet download speed is extremely slow. I have tried 2 other computers, another mac and windows and the download speed is over 10mb but with this macbook pro it is less than 1mb. What is causing this and how to fix?
To find out how much space you have & what is left, open up Disk Utility/Machintosh HD/First Aid. The info will be at the bottom of the window.
Sluggish Finder - Bunch of icons on your desktop? An overcrowded desktop slows down your Mac.
Get rid of needless Finder calculations - Open a window in Finder/View/Show View Options: ensure "Calculate All Sizes" option is unchecked.
Internet related - It's likely that your broadband connection is the bottleneck. You can check your speed on http://www.speedtest.net to see how fast your connection is. If your web browser specifically performs slowly, quit and relaunch it.
If browser remains sluggish, empty its cache.
Safari/Empty Cache
Firefox/Preferences - select the Network tab of the Advanced preferences and click the "Clear Now" button in the "Offline Storage" area.
Application related - Launch "Activity Monitor" - Applications/Utilities - click the CPU heading and see what float to the top. If an application takes up a large chunk of CPU and won't let it go, it could be dragging down your Mac's performance. Quit it by clicking the Quit Process button at the top of the Activity Monitor window.
Too little ram - max out your ram.

Problem of PCI express link width and speed

I instantiate the pci express core v1.7 into a pci express endpoint and the core was configured as GEN I x8 or GEN II x4. By using the example design Xilinx offered in the ipcore dir, I could read and write device by PIO mode.
However, when I check the device’s link width and speed by using lspci –vvvv in Linux, I found that no matter what configurations I set, the device link is always trained as GEN I x1, which means the throughput of device, reduce 8 times. May the most important problem is that all logic in the user layer upon transaction layer are written at 250MHz, and if link width and speed are limited 2.5G/T and x1, I need to change user logic circuit which is a huge work.
So my question is how to change the PCI express link width and speed in OS side, or I need to change a new motherboard?
(I guess it related with motherboard, and I check that the PCI express slot in motherboard support GEN II X16. Another issue, when I insert a PCI express GEN II x8 device, the device is also trained as GEN I x1).

Increase internet speed when DNS and ISP are good
How do you increase your internet performance when?
1. Your ISP is great. I have Verizon blast.
2. download and upload are not bad
3. You do not want to be attached to ethernet cord.
4. namebench says your current DNS servers are the "fastest".
5. I have a hunch I could do more to combate the "noise" coming from the other people in my apartment complex. I have tried changing channels from default but it doesn't seem to make to large of a difference because some of their routers seem to randomly picl channels, sometimes the ones I'm on.

Test you LAN using LAN Speedtest. First test using Ethernet connections and see if you can get speeds of 90+ Mbps. Much higher is possible if the equipment you are testing with has gigabyte capability at both ends.
If you can't 90+ on your LAN there is a problem with your LAN setup that needs to be addressed.
Then you can test speeds on your LAN using WiFi.
Using Speedtest introduces to many additional variables making it very difficult to diagnose throughput problems.
Once you know that your LAN is up to standard then you can point at Verizon. -
Nice to see 13" retina but it has only Intel HD Graphics 4000 and does not have NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 1GB of GDDR5 memory card. How it will affect the speed, performance and other things compared to 15" retina where NVIDIA GeForce card is available.
The 15" Retina's will have better performance than any 13" Retina. Not only do the 15" machines have dedicated GPU's, but they also have quad-core processors, whereas the 13" Retina's only have dual-core processors.

IPhone isn't recognized by iTunes, and when it is, data speeds are slow!

For the last few months I have been having an issue with the drivers on my computer for Apple iPhone. Before, it would connect to iTunes just fine, and would work flawlessly. Now either it connects to iTunes and it being recognized by Windows Explorer as a camera doesn't show up, or Windows Explorer picks it up as a camera, but it doesn't communicate with iTunes. I have noticed that when the PC picks the phone up as a camera, "MTP Device" shows up under "Portable Devices" in Device Manager. When iTunes can pick the phone up, it shows up under "Universal Serial Bus controllers" as "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver".
I have tried various tricks with driver installing/uninstalling. If I want my computer to connet to iTunes, I need to uninstall and reinstall the driver with my iPhone connected, or it doesn't work at all. It appears as a hardware error and driver error before I uninstall the driver. Deleting the driver software does nothing. When I do this trick, the transfer speeds between my iPhone are slow. An example is, it takes 5 hours to synchronize 161 songs to the iPhone. If I can manage to get the iPhone to show up as a device under the USB controllers, transfer speeds between the computer and phone are normal. Changing the USB cable and chosing a different port doesn't help. A complete restore of iOS software revealed no results. I just started with a clean OS install a half a year ago, I am not looking forward to wiping my OS to fix this... any help on fixing this? Thanks.Have you tried to reset the iphone, holding the sleep and home button together for 10 seconds?
Also, a firewire cable only charges the iphone. You will need a usb cable to sync - the usb cable does not allow for charging I think.
When opening the preference window in itunes, there should be a Sync icon, all the way to the right, when clicking on that Sync icon - I think it is the iphone icon - does the name of the iphone appear in the window? -
Coloring issues with magic wand tool and paint bucket tool, leaves uncolored areas near drawn lines
Photoshop CS6 doesn't color properly. Whetever I use brush tool or elliptical marquee tool to do the lines (with brush tool I use Hard Round, not soft), it doesn't color the whole area when i fill them with color. This happens with both magic wand tool AND paint bucket tool, there is always a small uncolored area near the lines. I have tolerance on 30, and anti-alias, contiguous and sample all layers boxes checked. (this setting worked on my old CS3) I have tried tolerance from 0 to 100, no difference. I have also tried unchecking the boxes I just mentioned, still no difference. I hope there is a solution for this, because it is tedious to always go to the Select - Modify - Expand every time I need to color some area. So how do I fix this problem? I use seperate layers for lines and colors, like I have always done with other Photoshop versions. Even in school where they have CS5 those normal settings work.

I don't think this is a "user error". I think Adobe should be able to program a state of the art paint bucket, which is capable to get this done right.
Other applications are able to get this done right.
Please don't fall into a programmer's ignorance ("this is done right by definition") but listen to us artists and improve this unintuitive behavior. Add something like "ignore transparent pixels", because this doesn't even work if you draw on an empty layer.

Evenings and weekend speed getting near unusable
So 6 months into my contract and things are starting to get a bit silly. I have a sync speed of about 14mb down and on an average day I get speeds anywhere between 12~13mbps which is fine, perfectly reasonable.
Ever since about 3 months ago my speed has been dropping like a brick some evenings and almost every weekend, straight down from ~12mbps to somewhere between 2 and 3mbps. This certainly isn't due to my own traffic as what I do doesn't have any effect on the speed.
Calls to BT helplines have been met with frustration, on 5 calls to them I've restarted my router/pc/pc-in-safemode/microwave/boiler to no avail (suprisingly), line tests have shown diddly squat, and escalations to level 2 have been met with an excuse that "well the speed is fine now" the following day.
Is this just your regular old contention? Why is this still an issue? My speed has been dipping below my 3mbps guaranteed speed, can I use this as justification of contract cancelation without early termination charge?

Are near 20mb speeds really possible?

I received a letter around a month ago stating that the Huddersfield exchange (and BT) could now offer me up to 20mb broadband.
I live about 1 mile away from the local exchange and the max speed I can get according to BT's online tester is 7mb. I thought this strange and so checked broadband speed for a postcode that was right next to the street that the exchange is on. Google maps says that the location is less than 0.1 miles from the exchange. Even here the max speed is 9mb according to the BT calculator.
Could anyone give clues as to why the speeds are so low even though the distances are so close. Has the Huddersfield exchange been upgraded for 20mb broadband? This will have a great impact on my decision to renew with BT.
Cheers.I'm no expert. I upgraded to infinity a couple of weeks ago. During the original marketing phone call I was told that My speed would be 19.5 Mb. They implied this was precise - rather than the 'up to' 20 Mb flim flam.
Ive checked the speed a couple of times since the upgrade and bt's speedtester tells me I'm getting 25 Mb (consistently). I have no idea if that's accurate or not. I did get a lot of trouble with dropped connection initially but this seems to have been down to my home phone base stations being snuggled up to the hub and router. No other problems yet except all of my bt account details, login names, user ids and so on are completely buggered up. It's a miracle I ever reached this forum, really <-- looks like something else, too -
Went to use my contacts and they are all gone! Changed iCloud accounts on Saturday, performed a backup and then synced my music only on iTunes via a PC. How do I find out if my contacts were really stored on iCloud? If so, how do I get them back?
Log into icloud.com and then click on the Contacts icon. If the list is empty, then it's gone.

SLOW download on Airport Extreme wifi. Wired is great. The download speeds are next to nothing above 25 feet away. When i stand next to the AEB it is fine. Anyone know why? Doubt ill get another AEB, very unreliable and has been for some time.
No cordless phone (two iPhones and two iPads though). It does have one or two walls on line of sight. A few wireless door security zones. And a large china cabinet that my wife sure wouldn't let me move. Do any of these sound significant enough to drop the dowload from 30Gb to .1GB...while upload stays consistent. I have had better signal strength through two walls 100 feet out from my house, havent tried recently though. I am suddenly aware as my switch is acting up and i had to use wifi on my xbox.

we have dsl and airport extreme router, 2 iphones, 2 ipads, a pc and a macbook. wireless speeds are terrible until the macbook is disconnected, then speeds are normal. ideas?

Say no more.. upgrading to Mavericks.. any upgrade install is prone to issues.. the Mavericks one is the worst of any recent upgrades.
Lets just try and isolate the problem.
In the setup of the AE, give different names to the two wireless bands.. so go into the airport utility.. click the AE, Click edit.. click the wireless tab.. and now type in a new name.
Try AE24ghz
Then click the wireless options and change the name for the 5ghz..
Make it AE5ghz
Then update the AE.
In the computer.. select either band.. and see if your other clients are affected if they use the band that the Mac is not using.
Alternatively turn off wireless in the macbook and use ethernet.. oh please please have a Mac with an ethernet port.. otherwise buy a Thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter.. it is well worth having. wireless is never to be trusted. -

Current controlfile이 database와 함께 손실되고 Recovery catalog도 손상되어

1. Target instance를 위한 new init.ora를 생성한다. backup이 있다면 이것을
사용할 수 있다.
2. Startup nomount your new instance.
3. RMAN은 시작하나 어떤 connect statement도 수행하지 않는다.
4. RMAN prompt상에서 DBID를 설정한다. 만약 DBID를 모르면 controlfile autobackup
의 이름으로부터 이것을 알 수 있다.
RMAN> set dbid=4159396170;
5. Dbid를 설정한 후에 nomount로 startup한 target instance에 connect한다.
RMAN> connect target /
6. 만약에 backup이 disk상에 있고 controlfile autobackup을 non-default location
으로 지정하였다면 파일을 다음과 같은 위치로 옮겨 놓는다
ON UNIX : ORACLE_HOME/dbs
ON WINDOWS: ORACLE_HOME/database
RMAN은 controlfile autobackup을 찾기 위해 위 directory를 검색한다.
만약 controlfile autobackup location을 바꾸지 않으면 위 directory안에
backup이 생성되게 된다.
만약에 backup이 tape에 있다면 restore시 channel과 device를 기술하기 위해서
run block을 사용해야 한다. database가 mount되어 있지 않기 때문에
default device와 channel을 설정할 수 없다.
RMAN> run { allocate channel c_1 type 'sbt_tape'
parms "ENV=(NB_ORA_SERV=rm-wgt)";
restore controlfile from autobackup;}
7. Restore the controlfile:
RMAN> restore controlfile from autobackup;
8. Mount the database from the restored controlfile:
RMAN> alter database mount;
9. Restore datafiles:
RMAN> restore database;
10. file들을 restore한 후에 recovery를 수행할 수 있다.
이때 current online redo log가 없고 또한 backup controlfile을 사용하기
때문에 incomplete recovery를 수행해야 한다. 이를 수행하기 위해서는
"UNTIL TIME"을 설정해야 하고 open시에는 resetlogs를 사용해야 한다.
RMAN> set until time=<time stamp>;
RMAN> recover database;
RMAN> alter database open resetlogs;

If the backup includes datafile 1, then RMAN does not automatically include the current control file in the datafile backup set. Instead, RMAN writes the control file and server parameter file to a separate autobackup piece.
Note: The autobackup occurs regardless of whether the BACKUP or COPY command explicitly includes the current control file, for example, BACKUP DATABASE INCLUDE CURRENT CONTROLFILE.

BUT Dear Mohammed,
It is not working accordingly. what I did is :-
1. I switched off the AUTOBACKUP
2. Then I took whole database backup, that means it included File # 1
3. But according to above it is going to include autobackup of controlfile and spfile in the same backupset .
4. But when I asked it to restore controlfile from autobackup it said NO AUTOBACKUP FOUND.
COULD YOU PLEASE HELP ME ONCE AGAIN DEAR.
If it works accroding to above then it should have my Autobackup.
