Performance between LV6.1 + Mac OS9 and LV7 + Mac OSX

Hi,
I use a PowerMac G4 bootable on OS9 and OSX (10.2.8). I run one application (G progamming + CIN) on the 2 OS (one in LV6.1 and one in LV7).
My application do Real Time analyse. My problem is performances are better on OS9 than on OSX !!!
I don't understand why? Anybody has a little idea of the origin of this mytery ??
Thanks for all help.
PS : The same test on a PC on XP pro + LV6.1 and Linux RedHat + LV7.1 give the same performances on the 2 OS...

Of course it's LV7.O + RedHat 9, sorry...
I haven't narrowed down the area in loss of performance :
- profile VI --> approximativly the same result on OS9 than on OSX.
- small VI test on part of code --> performances are egual or better with LV7 on OSX !!!
- modification of the excution thread or/and priority --> not conclusive. (On RedHat, this modification is radical for the increased of the performance !!)
- compiling the CIN with speed optimization --> not conclusive...
The last thing I think, it's that run OSX is more expensive in CPU time than OS9... Is it possible? how test it?
I hope this is not a problem like this, because I can't optimized it !!!

  • Indesign performance is slow on Mac OSX Mavericks

    Hi,
I'm experiencing extremely poor performance from InDesign after a set period of time (usually an hour or two). The interface feels laggy and just general work within the program is jerky and slow. Along with this, some shortcuts like 'Duplicate' don't work, but work when clicked through the menu.
These problems seem to have occured ever since I installed OSX 10.9 Mavericks onto my iMac. Is this something other users are experiencing and is there a fix? If not, when are Adobe likely to get an update out that addresses glitches related to working on OSX Mavericks?
Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    My machine:
    iMac 27", Mid 2010, 2.93 GHz Intel Core i7, Memory 16GB 1333 MHz DDR3

Agreed…and the bigger the upgrade the more the risk.
Since Apple is allowing free upgrades from as far back as Snow Leopard and everything was fine before the upgrade, I will fall back to my advice to do a clean install of the O/S after backing everything up.
That said, you may benefit from simply uninstalling and reinstalling.
Me? Mountain Lion is just fine for now but I've already created a boot disk for Mavericks and will do a clean install once all of my software has been declared Mavericks ready. Still waiting for Extensis to update Suitcase Fusion 5.

  • Is a mac osx server fits to a office with 10 PCs

I want to set up a server for my company
The purpose of the server is to store files, share files & printer, a calendar, an internal website( for hosting a blog and filemaker files), regular backup
My office will have 10 PCs (window 7) connects to the server, and my company dont have an IT expertise ..
I have considered between Window SBS, Mac osx server and ubuntus server
I think a mac mini server is the best solution for me as:
    1: easy installation
    2: less expensive than SBS
however, is the mac mini server work well in my case?
    Thank you very much!

An Apple Mac Mini server would be a good fit. It includes two 500GB drives and an unlimited-user copy of Mac OS X Server. Not bad for $999.
Mac OS X Server itself is very easy to configure and Apple has a lot of resources on their website to help guide you.
You will want to make sure to configure all of your file sharing share points with SMB for the Windows clients to access. You won't be able to take full advantage of Mac OS X Server's offerings, but for file sharing it will be fine.

  • Sharing files between a Windows Vista Business edition and a Mac osx 10.6.6

Is there reliable information somewhere about how to share files from a Windows Vista business edition pc to a Mac osx 10.6.6?  I have googled instructions and followed the steps and still could not have sharing to happen between the Vista pc and the Mac.  These are the steps I have performed, I have made sure that
o Both the Vista pc and the Mac have the same user account/password.
o The firewall from the Vista side allows file and printer sharing in the exceptions.
o Enabled sharing with a few directories on the Vista pc.
o Changed the security policy on the Vista pc to "LM and NTLM - use NTLMV2 session security if negotiated".
o On the Mac System Preferences > Sharing selected File sharing.
On the Windows Vista pc, if I click the Start menu and then Network, the Mac does not appear.  On the Mac, from the Finder menu if I click Go > Connect to server and request a connection to the IP address of that Vista pc, I get an error, "Connection Failed"  (could not find pc or not available at this time).
    What else do I need?

That was a great tutorial / walk through.
In fact, I would say that was far easier than the entrophy route (which is good) as you can see exactly what you are doing rather than relying on an installer which has often failed in the past for me, and then just suddenly worked for no apparent reason!
Just two things to improve it for other users, and they are really VERY minor... From previous experience, I knew where to find the php.ini.default file, but you don't let people know where to find that, and the links to the MySQL downloads were broken. I guess that is because the file names have changed or because I am coming at it from a different country. I got a message stating: 'That file does not exist on our download mirrors.'
Thanks for doing that, I really appreciate you (and the likes of David Powers) taking the time to set these tutorials up for others to use.

  • Performance difference between 3.33 6 core and dual 2.4 quad core.

Sorry if this seems like a silly question to the technically savvy out there, but I am looking to replace my older Mac Pro. I was wondering what the performance difference between those two machines.
I am a film editor and run Final Cut as well as Avid Media Composer, plus I do effects work in After Effects. Which of the two would be bettervforvtgatbwork? Media storage issues aside, would I get better performance for video work from the lower ghz dual core or the larger ghz 6 core?
Both machines are essentially the same cost. So I wonder if there is a better choice amongbthe two, and why.
I tried some research, but couldn't find a direct comparison or a general guide that seemed to correspond to those configuration differences.

    Hello nibford,
For photo editing and digital imaging I would recommend the 6-Core 3.33GHz as the better buy, but then I do not use Final Cut, Avid Media Composer, or After Effects.
The following article, from the legendary, and much quoted, Mac Performance Guide, gives an excellent insight into the new 2010 range of Mac Pros:
    http://macperformanceguide.com/Reviews-MacProWestmere.html
Unfortunately, from your point of view, but not mine, the performance tests are predominantly photography related, but there is a comparison of Performance with Adobe After Effects on Page 28:
    http://macperformanceguide.com/Reviews-MacProWestmere-AfterEffects.html
There is virtually no difference in performance between the 6-Core 3.33GHz and the 8-Core 2.4GHz in those tests.
However, in the Performance with Handbrake Video Encoding on Page 29, the 6-Core 3.33GHz is only marginally slower than the 8-Core 2.93GHz, which would indicate that it would be substantially faster than the 8-Core 2.4GHz for this process:
    http://macperformanceguide.com/Reviews-MacProWestmere-Handbrake.html
Again the 6-Core 3.33GHz outperforms the 8-Core 2.4GHz in the Cinebench tests on Page 30:
    http://macperformanceguide.com/Reviews-MacProWestmere-Cinebench.html
The only advantage that the 8-Core 2.4GHz currently appears to have over the 6-Core 3.33GHz is that it has twice the number of memory slots, and can accommodate a maximum of 64GB RAM compared to the 32GB of the latter.
In the future, applications might take full advantage of the 8-Core 2.4GHz's additional cores, but at the moment, in my opinion, the 6-Core's much faster processor tips the scales in its favour.
    Regards,
    Bill

I have forgotten my Password to be able to connect between my desktop Mac and Mac Book on my home network. How can I recover the password or change it?

The password used to log in to a user account remotely is the same as you would use to log into it locally. You can also use your Apple ID, so try that.
To change your login password read OS X Mavericks: Reset a login password

  • Why can't I get Back To My Mac to work in both directions between my 2011 Mac Book Air and my 2012 Mac Mini?

Why can't I get Back To My Mac to work in both directions between my 2011 Mac Book Air and my 2012 Mac Mini? The network uses a Time Capsule. Everything works when connecting from the Mini to the Air, but the reverse is not the case, none of the Mini's drives are visible, and the screen sharing option is not available. I've tried the measures already suggested in online articles, everything seems to be configured correctly using my iCloud account. I'm at a loss, any suggestions would be appreciated.

I've now managed to get the service running in both directions, but not in the way I had anticipated. I had to create a second account on the Mac Book Air, this also has administrator privilages, everything works fine when connecting from this acccount. However, this is not the way I would expect to work, none of my documents, applications and settings would be available, unless I laboriously duplicated them to the new account.
Also, I've yet to get the service running from outside my home network.

  • Fire wire incompatibility between OS 10.10 (IMAC) and OS 10.4.11 (Mac Mini)

Fire Wire does not work between my Imac running Yosemite, and my Mac Mini running 10.4.11. It does not seem to be a hardware problem.  I was wondering if anybody knows why?  Is there something between the two OSs that makes fire wire a no go?  Is it a Power PC vs Intel issue.  Are there any work arounds? Both computers drop into target mode correctly, but neither will put an Icon up on the other's desktop. Speculation is that I'd have  to run 10.6+ to get fire wire to  work with Yosemite.
Sure would be nice to know...

Is it a Power PC vs Intel issue.

  • Sharing clipboard and pasteboard between Wireshark(X11) and Mac OSX

I installed latest Wireshark for Mac version. However, it is interesting that I cannot copy what I have copied in Wireshark and the paste it in my Mac any editor. The reverse direction is also the same. If I have any wireshark filter I would like to apply to Wireshark, it is also not allowed.
I learned that it is because the X11 clipboard and pasteboard are different from Mac OSX.
Do you know if there is any available workaround configuration I can do so as to allow them to share?

    By checking through Apple
Discussion Forum, I fixed the problem by below procedure:
    1. Delete any ".X" file in your home directory, such as ".Xauthority", in my
    case
    - It will be automatically recreated
    2. Delete "org.x.X11.plist" in ~/Library/Preferences
    - It will be automatically recreated
    3. Moving the .wireshark and .wireshark-etc to other name
When I open wireshark again, it would like a program having just newly
    installed and start over again.
Then I can copy and paste the content between Wireshark packet-capture and
    editor in MacOS.

  • File sharing between PC XP SP 2 and Mac OS X 10.4.2

I would like to share file between my two Macs and a windows PC via AirPort. I can access from the PC to the Mac but not vice versa. I followed the instructions at www.efelix.co.uk/tech/3001.html but every time I try to get access to the PC with "connect to server" the system shows me error code -35.
    Any solutions?
    Thanks in advance!

My home network is similar, but I can't figure out what to do next in order to transfer files between the Macs and the PC.
I've disabled firewall (Windows) and internet security (TrendMicro), and confirmed IP and Submask Numbers. Still no success.
Here's more details of what I have:
AirPort Extreme Base Station connected to DSL modem.
eMac and three iBooks, connected wirelessly to ABS.
Filesharing is on for these Macintosh computers.
-This works fine for transferring files and for internet access.-
    Just bought eMachines T6520 running Windows XP Home;
connected via ethernet cable to ABS.
-This PC works fine for internet access.-
WHAT IS THE KEY TO GETTING THE Macs to see the PC, and the PC to see the Macs?

  • Improving Performance between WRT610N (v1) and WET610N (v1)

Any advice on how to improve performance of the connection between these two Wireless N devices?
    WRT610N (v1) and WET610N (v1)
We have a PS3 connected to the WET610N via Ethernet directly, and it connects the PS3 communication wirelessly to the Internet through the WRT610N.  Just wondering if there are some known tweaks that will improve performance between them.  One thing I think is ridiculous is that the WRT610N is showing only 30% signal strength on the WET610N.  That is ridiculous as they are not far from eachother.
    Any input is welcome!

Whats the Distance between your Router and the Bridge? Are you connected to 5GHz wireless network or 2.4GHz wireless network?  Whats the Wireless Settings you have setup on your Router.

  • Difference in WS performance between Search and Retrieve operations?

    All,
We are currently working on a new repository and planning to use MDM webservices on top of that repository for searching and retrieving the data.
Now I'm curious about the difference in performance between the Search and the Retrieve operations and also within the Retrieve operation, between the different identification methods (internal ID, auto ID, remote key, unique field and display field).
Because in the webservices guide is stated that the identification methods are listed in order of best performance, but what are these performance differences between these methods (e.g. a retrieve on internal ID is x times faster than a retrieve on remote key which on his turn is x times faster than a retrieve on display fields which on his turn is x times faster than a search operation on same display field).
Of course the performance depends on lot of other things as well, but I just want to get a feeling on the performance related to eachother (keeping all other variables that can influence the performance the same!)!
I hope that any of you has experiences with all possibilities and can share performance measurements between the different operations related to eachother.  Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Marcel Herber

    Hi,
Did you implment Webservices in your site.
We are also having a similar scenarion where we have to serach a Records in MDM from SAP PI based on the certain criteria. I am concerned about the SAP MDM performance , since we are having heavy amount data being loaded every 30 minutes.
Please let me know the performace aspects of using Webservices.
    Thanks

  • I cannot sync my Notes between my ipad, my iphone and my mac, despite setting Notes to sync with iCloud

I cannot sync my Notes between my ipad, my iphone and my mac, despite setting Notes to sync with iCloud. Any Suggestion?

    perfect. ok do the following:
settings > mail, contacts, calendars > go into the exchange account. You should have an email in the account field...[email protected] or [email protected], etc.... I am assuming you don't remember the password to this exchange account so once you know the email, you can go to email providers site and click on forgot password and you will go through the steps to get a new password. Once you do this, you will need to go back into your "exchange account " and the field that has the exchange email > touch the > to open settings. Change the password to your new password you got from above. Once you do this, you can add the exchange account to your ipad and all of your contacts will sync to both devices.
    Please confirm.
