Performance Financial Reporting 11.1.2.1 vs 11.1.2.2

Dear HFM Admins,
We have migrated to the new HFM 11.1.2.2.302 version.
The reports were exported and then imported into the new version from 11.1.2.1.
The performance differences are quite substantial. A report which ran 2 minutes in the old 11.1.2.2 is now running 8 minutes in 11.1.2.2.
Has anyone else noticed this? Or is there a better way to migrate the reports?
The reports are pointing against HFM Database NOT Essbase.
Thanks alot
Roman

Hi Roman,
We have done the same migration couple of months ago and not noticed the same issue. The difference is all of our reports are mapped to Essbase databases. Have you checked the server specs between 11.1.2.1 and 11.1.2.2 in the FR and HFM servers? I wonder if it is a memory issue...
Cheers,
Mehmet

  • Performance of Financial Reports against a ASO Cube to a BSO Cube

    Hi All,
I am working on Financial Reporting and Essbase. I wanted to understand and find some relevant documentation, which tells about the performance issues or difference when a financial report hits a BSO cube or an ASO cube.
    1. If there is a difference in the performance for an ASO vs BSO for Financial Reports, where can I find the document or details for it?
    2. If there is a difference in the performance for an ASO vs BSO for Financial Reports, what is the reason for the same?
    3. How can we improve the ASO performance for the reports?
Any insights for the same, would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Ankur Jain.

    Thanks Sean V,
Its quite amazing for me as well, and that is why I am trying drill into any of the FR documentation which might contain something like this. As of now, since I don't have access to the cube, I have nothing to add, nor have the insights to the cube, based upon which I could explain, more on the Cube and Outline design.
But as soon as I get the access, I will bring this back and have a discussion on the forum.
Thanks for confirming the same, of what I had been explaining to my Client side as well. Though, I still need some basis to explain and prove them exactly and a prototype as well, which might be needed as well.
    Thanks,
    Ankur Jain.

  • Hyperion Financial Reporting server 9.3.1 - Performance with Large batches

I have not been able to find any help yet, so hopefully someone here can help.
We have several financial reporting servers so that we can schedule reports and have users on seperate servers so that they do not interfere with each other.
The problem is that when bursted batch reports that select 100 - +1000 members from the bursting dimension run, the resources are maxing out memory and if multiple batches with the same large number of (but different members) are run at the same time, we start having failures on the services where they hang or worse the server crashes (one server crashed early this morning).
The Windows 2003 servers are Dell 2950 1x intel core 2 duo 3GHz with 8GB of RAM.
We found that if we set the java memory parms at anything higher than 1.5GB the services do not start, so all 8GB available is hardly being used by the server since the FR services (batch scheduler, print server, reports, RMI) are the only things running.
The batches are bursting the report for each member to a network folder for users to access and for archival purposes.
We may need to get Oracle involved, but if anyone here has insight I'd appreciate the assistance.

    Hi Robert
I have come across similar issues where the reports take much longer to run as part of a batch than it does when accessed direct via the workspace. Our issue was that Financial Reporting was not dropping the connection to Essbase. We were using windows os and had to add a few DWORDs to the registry:
    1. Open the registry and navigate to Local Machine\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\TCPIP\Parameters
    2. Add new DWORD Value named TcpTimedWaitDelay, right click and select Modify. Select decimal radio button, type in 30 (this is the number of seconds that TCP/IP will hold on to a connection before it is released and made available again, the default is 120 seconds)
    3. Add new DWORD Value named MaxUserPort, right click and select Modify. Select decimal radio button, type in 65534 (this determines the highest port number TCP can assign when an application requests an available user port from the system, the default is 5000)
    4. Add new DWORD Value named MaxFreeTcbs, right click and select Modify. Select decimal radio button, type in 6250 (this determines the number of TCP control blocks (TCBs) the system creates to support active connections, the default is 2000. As each connection requires a control block, this value determines how many active connections TCP can support simultaneously. If all control blocks are used and more connection requests arrive, TCP can prematurely release connections in the TIME_WAIT state in order to free a control block for a new connection)
I think we did this to both our essbase and application server and rebooted both afterwards, it made a dramatic improvement to batch times!!
As a personal note I try not to have too many batches running at once as they can interfere with each other and it can lead to failures. Where I have done this before we tend to use windows batch (.bat) files to launch the FR batches from the command line, if time allows I run a few batches to get a reasonable estimate of the time to complete and in my .bat file I add a pause of around that amount of time in between sending the batch requrests to the scheduler. Admittedly I've not done it yet where the number of reports in a bursting batch is as many as 1000.
    Hopefully this will help

  • Financial Reporting Studio 11.1.2.1 admin documentation?

I'm very troubled with the way how Oracle sets up its website and naming. Sorry for venting a bit
But it's absolutely frustrating when people stumble upon this section
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/fusion-middleware/overview/index.html
and don't know where to look for a specific application.
Anyway, my question is, where is Financial Reporting Studio 11.1.2.1 admin guide located? which section?
I tried to google but no result.
    Thanks for reading.

    @Jeo123:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/performance-management/documentation/index.html
The first link you listed doesn't include Financial Reporting Studio. That's exactly my problem. Most clients I work with have Essbase, Planning, EPMA, and FRS. These are the 4 basic components of Hyperion system.
    @RaulRodriguez:
The reporting piece is under reporting and analysis:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17236_01/nav/portal_4.htm
Thanks.....I actually found that on Google. But unfortunately, I'm on 11.1.2.1. And Oracle's site doesn't have a section set up for 11.1.2.1 like they do for 11.1.2.2. And the problem I have actually goes back to using "Usage Tracking" and setting up through BI+ server that you suggested last time. Since you said that certain method can only be done that way on 11.1.2.1, so I was looking for that doc. Otherwise, I could've used 11.1.2.2 instead.
    Bummer.

  • Financial Reporting in 11.1.2.2 vs 9.3.3

We are moving from HFM with Financial Reporting 9.3.3 to version 11.1.2.2.  One thing we've noticed is that when we first run a report in 11.1.2.2, it takes about 30 seconds for the report to prompt the user with the Point of View.  After that, subsequent reports take about 5-10 seconds to arrive at the prompt.
If the user does not run any reports for another couple of hours, the first report will take a while and subsequent reports will be quick.
In 9.3.3, we did not have this situation.  We did not have this disparity between the first report run and subsequent reports.
Is there some cache setting or other tweek that we could make ? or is this how it works in 11.1.2.2 and is something we'll have to get used to?
We are running SQL Server 2008 R2 on 64bit Windows for all server based applications.  The servers have 16 GB.

  • Financial Reporting 11.1.1.3 Client "Access Denied" connecting to HFM

    Hi,
I have installed Financial Reporting 11.1.1.3 Client on a PC running Windows Vista 32 bit SP1. • Hyperion Financial reports-taking long time to open after migrating to 9

    Hi,
Financial reports version 7 are migrated to system 9.
Problem that we are facing now is that reports take ling time to open.
Can anyone suggest how to improve the performance .
before migration to system 9 financial reports was working fine but now it is taking a long time to open

Are they taking a long time to open in the studio or in the workspace?
There could be lots of reasons:
Have there been server changes with the migration?
Have there been any changes in dynamically calculated dimensions?

  • Issue on Hyperion Financial Reporting Services -URGENT

    Hi Gurus,
I would like to know the steps to be performed to take the back up of the Financial reports when all the Financial Services are stopped running.
Production server is down and noticed that all the services are running fine except the Financial Reporting services.
I need your advice on how to bring back the Financial reports server to work.
    1) Do I need to take back up of all the Reports before going for server reboot? If yes, can you give me the detailed steps on how to take the back of these reports.
    2) If I go and raised the request to restart the server, is there any effect to the Reports?
Can you please tell me the procedure/process on how to deal with this kind of issues?
    Awaiting for your help..
    Regards,
    Upendra.

    Hi,
What happens when you try and start it? Is there anything in the logs or the event viewer ?
Financial report information is stored in the database repository, so restarting the server is not a problem.
Reports are usually backed up by exporting them or backing up the database (though you have to back up all hyperion databases at the same time so they can be put back into sync)
    Cheers

  • Problem about financial reporting studio(assign multiple db connection)

    Hi,
I need to assign multiple database connections to a grid in Oracle Hyperion Financial Reporting Studio
To do this, I performed the following steps:
    - Open a report.
    - In a grid, select one column for which I want to change the database connection.
    - In the Column Properties sheet, click the Select Database Connection button, .
    - In the Select a Database Connection dialog box, select a database connection from the Database Connection drop-down list, then Click OK.
    - In the Map Dimensions Between... dialog box, map dimensions between the default database connection and the selected database connection. I do this by selecting a dimension from the pull-down list in the right column for each dimension in the left column.
    - Optional: Select an alias table for the new database connection.
    - Click OK.
But after last step I have received next error:
    *; nested exception is:*
    java.lang.NullPointerException
Can someone explain the source of this error?
And help me please solve this problem because I didn’t receive figures in that column where I changed database connection.
    Thank you in advance!

I'm sure that both DB connections has the same dimension hierarchy. I can open the repot, but in it I don't see figures in that column where I've changed database connection...

  • Financial Reporting Studio Client Installation Error

    Hi,
today i tried to install Financial Reporting Studio on my own computer to access the data stored on a server landscape. After successfull installation, when I try to login I receive the following error message: You are not Authorized to use this Functionality. Please contact Administrator
Nevertheless, I am the admin so I need to contact myself. I tried a lot of things today and read a lot of threads, still no solution. I can run the Reporting Studio from any of my servers and use the URL http://webserver:19000 It works when run from any of the servers. But when I try it from the "outside" I always get the error above. I can access all other Hyperion Components from my computer, hence the environment is configured right to that extend.
Do you have any suggestions on this error?
    Thank you very much,
    Best Regards
    Philipp
    I run: Windows Vista
    FinRep Studio: 11.1.0.2507

I have the same issue with 11.1.1.3 and Windows 7 which we recently installed..  Initially, Financial Reporting would not launch but after we did the steps mentioned below, we the studio opens and we can access our Repository.  However, we get a 'Failed to connect to Server...' for each of our HFM and Essbase reports.  Any ideas?
    Thx,
    Mike
    We followed the below steps
manually copy the following folders and files from a working 32-bit Windows machine:
<HYPERION>\common\JRE  (This is needed for Studio startup.)
<HYPERION>\common\ADM\9.5.0.0\Essbase  (This is needed for data source connections.)
<HYPERION>\products\biplus\lib\fr_client.properties  (This defines the FR Client Logging settings.)
<HYPERION>\products\biplus\lib\fr_global.properties  (This is needed to define the default
RMI port (FR Studio will try to use 1099 otherwise) and the location of the fr_client.properties file (or else the FRClient.log file doesn't get created).)
Note that if the Java Runtime (<HYPERION>\common\JRE ) was missing after initial installation, it will be necessary to manually execute <HYPERION>\products\biplus\install\bin\HrRunAnt.cmd.  This is a Windows batch file used to perform post-install configuration steps; it depends on the presence of the java Runtime.

  • Adhoc Reporting: Webanalysis vs Financial Reporting Studio

    Hi,
Our client is using Hyperion Planning 9.3.0.1 and currently the business users use Financial Reporting Studio for adhoc reporting. I am wondering if they can use Web Analysis to do this? Are there any performance issues if many users are using Webanalysis at the same time? Is there anything else that I need to keep in mind before advising the client?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Amol
    Edited by: user638718 on Apr 7, 2009 5:28 PM

    Hi,
Web Analysis is definitely aimed more towards adhoc reporting, it is just general adhoc reporting you can also use the excel addin and smartview.
I take it you are already licensed to use web analysis ?
Performance well that all depends on the load that is going to be put on the server, specs of machines, amount of concurrent users etc

    Hello,
I have made a few Financial Reports and they are okay.
However, I want to know how I can improve the quality of my reports and as far as performance is concerned and if there are any tips that you can give me to make better reports.
As a FR Quality Analyst: what would your recommendations be?
Based on your experience with the tool, do you have any tips or advice on writing better formulas, display options, general report construction, etc.
Let this thread be an area where Financial Report designers can get tips on making better Reports.
    Any help/tips/suggestions is much appreciated.

    Hi,
if ABST2 shows no difference, there is no difference.
The problem is that you can not compare every list and this causes misunderstandings
ABST2 is the right one to check it out.
