Performance / Heat / Flash / sluggish issue

Okay, tonight this finally bugged me enough that I'm going to post a question and see if anyone can help.
I play Tetris through a Flash interface on Facebook. I'm extremely competitive with it. I've been noticing when I first load up the flash page it runs really quick as it should, like on my old PC, but the longer I play, the laptop starts getting ridiculously hot just running a simple flash program (nothing else running) and it seems the warmer it gets, the more sluggish my pieces are. It seems to me that a simple 2D flash program such as tetris shouldn't be straining my $2500 MacBook Pro... and it's pretty frustrating when I start losing games because the pieces take that half second or so to respond.
Is this a problem with my MacBook? Is there some correlation between heat and performance? Why can I run Logic Pro 8 with 20 plugins without it overheating yet playing Tetris seems to make the laptop unbearably hot? I've tried it on different browsers (Safari and Firefox) and I've reinstalled Flash player 9.
Thoughts?

Hey there Aero. I too have a Powerbook 12" 1.5ghz and it totally annoys me that youtube has been acting sluggish, which truly shouldn't be the case. But not to fret, me and a cousin of mine found a cool app that pretty much cuts out the middle man. Google "Mini Tube" and download it for your Powerbook. It pretty much connects to youtube, you search any video like you would in youtube, and it'll play the video you are looking for in a smooth framerate like it should if you were in the youtube site. Hope this helps.

    Hello everyone,
I want to know if the graphics card in a computer affects the performance of Flash Professional. Or if I am going to experience any issues with computer such as lag or errors. I want to use a computer that has an hd 4600 graphics card with and i5 dual core processor. Will this be more than enough or should I opt for a i5 quadcore with an intel iris?

  • Flash Player Issue with Windows 8.1 Professional

    Hi guys,
I'm currently having issues with Flash Player on Internet Explorer 11 in Windows 8.1. It seems that the Flash Player has been disabled when I access http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/flash-player-issues-windows-8.html.
However, when I logged off the my domain account and use my local account, I'm able to test Flash Player.
Therefore, the only thing I can think of is the Group Policy that is blocking the Flash Player as I've resetted IE settings on my domain account.
Hopefully you guys are able to solve this mystery.
    Thanks!!

Go to control panel and go to program and features and uninstall existing adobe player
and adobe flash player activex both....
Then select windows 8 and flash player  from here http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/
    Install and check..

Those DID NOT come from an Adobe update.

  • Installing Flash Player Issues

I have a Windows 8 Operating Sysytem and I use IE version 8. I have downloaded the latest flash player numerous times and it continues not to work. So can someone please help me install it?????? Thanks in advance

If you have Windows 8, you CANNOT use IE 8, because Windows 8 comes with IE 10 preinstalled and it WON'T accept a lower version.
In addition, Flash Player for IE in Windows 8 is modified and embedded by Microsoft. It's "their baby" so to speak. It can ONLY be updated through Windows Update (in your Control Panel under System and Security).
Microsoft released a "Tuesday patch" November 12 to update Flash Player for IE10 and IE11 in Windows 8 and 8.1.
If you run the update and still have problems, see: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/flash-player-issues-windows-8.html for more steps to take.

  • Would flash player issues cahnge desktop icons?

I'm starting a seperate discussion on this issue as it is truly different than my other postings
    I use Vista Home premium
I have many icons on my desk top, mostly shortcuts to program. Yesterday I had to reboot several times when trying to update to ne flash player.
Then upon one reboot, I noticed that some, just like 3, Icons changed.
    Example
icon for the shortcut to itunes looked like the icon picture for the game dinerdash
icon for shortcut to the game Bakerydash looked like the icon for spider solitaire
now when I would right click on these shortcuts, they would show the proper data for the shortcut they truely were Whe I would right click on the icon and then select change icon, the only option there was the actual correct icon. I'd hit apply, but it did not good.
I ran virus/spyware scans and all were clean.
Could it be because of flash player issues? or because  I had rebooted several times in a row and did not allow the system to fully reboot before trying the next reboot??
Like I would reboot and then 7 minutes later reboot again. Could that cause the icons to screw up a little?

I don't know what changed the desktop icons, but it is one of these things that just happen sometimes.
Windows XP had a great tool, TweakUI (from Windows Power Toys), that has a 'Repair Icons' function.  Microsoft never released a TweakUI version for Vista, but I know that a 3rd-party version of TweakUI for Vista can be found on the Internet (Google will find it for you).
I would try to use this to repair your desktop icons.
P.S. since this TweakUI is not a Microsoft tool, I recommend to make a System Restore point before running it; just in case...

  • Exported Flash IIS issue

    Hi,
I have exported an Encore project to Flash and it works ok locally.
When i copy the all the exported files onto a Webserver, then create a virtual directory pointing to it, the main menu appears yet none of the video plays.
The source folder etc has been copied over, as i see that has been an issue in previous posts.
The server is Win2003 and the virtual directory is added to the default web site.
I am making no amendments to the exported files except moving them to a webserver.
    Can anyone please help?

The only Encore/Flash related issue that could be going on is that you haven't copied ALL of the items used (the source folder, the .html, the .swf). But, since you said you did all that, then I don't know why that wouldn't work for you.
In the URL, do you have a trailing "/" at the end? That can play a role. Also, check case-sensitivity (type in the URL exactly as the folder is listed).
I'm sure you've got your own reasons for using virtual directory...however, have you tried setting up the Flash DVD on the site any other way to at least determine whether or not your virtual directory setup is the source of the problem? Try setting it up some other way....if it works, then you at least have a better idea where the problem lies. If it still doesn't work, then....something may well be missing, despite your best efforts to ensure a 100% transfer.
    Good luck!

  • Is there a solution or work around for flash player issues?

Is there a solution, app or work around for flash player issues w/ iPad 2? Maybe even something in development?

Browser apps such as Skyfire, iSwifter and Puffin 'work' on some sites, but judging by their reviews not all sites. Also some websites, especially news sites, have their own apps in the App Store, so you could try checking there for your sites (and there is the built-in YouTube app). But flash itself is unlikely to ever be supported on the iPad : http://www.apple.com/hotnews/thoughts-on-flash/ , and Adobe have failed to create a version of flash that works on iOS

  • T61P - Very sluggish performance..hard drive issue ?

    Hi,
So I have been the owner of a T61P 6460 for one year now. It came with Vista, I downgraded to XP, and the thinkpad has always been running very strong and never had any sort of problem with it.
One month ago, I had a problem with the keyboard, the on/off switch did not respond anymore. So I had to send it back for repair. Before, sending it back, Iremoved the hard drive and tried to pick up some important data with a SATA adapter, but it somehow failed. So I sent it back to Lenovo for repair. They replaced the keyboard and even the palmrest free of charge which was quite nice. But when I received my thinkpad, it was running like hell. It took life 2 hours to boot the first time and it wouldn't even boot every time. The hard drive light was always on. So I tried formatting the hard drive. I lost alot of important stuff, but I take the blame for not backing up my system often enough.
So with a fresh XP, I started from scratch. Installed important programs and stuff. It was running pretty well. I could actually see a small difference as to when I first got my system but it was OK. Now, after maybe 3 days of daily normal use, my system started slowing down again.
I am not really pleased with my system anymore. Could the hard drive really be the source of my headaches ? I ran PC doctor and the hard drive failed 2 tests (I cannot remember which one it was, random search and the last one I believe). Would lenovo, declare my hard drive faulty of the performance loss? would they replace my hard drive free of charge ? I really do not accept that my system I paid 2300 $ one year ago runs slowly than a 1000 $ dell inspiron ...
    Any info will be appreciated
    thanks

    George,
IBM's Power Manager works with Vista's ACPI to control the CPU power settings.  Why don't you try it out.  Go to the Power Manager, select any power plan, and reset the defaults.  You will now be able to adjust the maximum CPU speed.  Try and set the CPU speed to the 'lowest' setting, and run a few apps.  You will definitely notice the performance hit.
So, even though you can set the CPU power settings in BIOS, the OS will overide the settings.

  • Macbook Pro Retina 15" Flash playback issues

    Hi,
I recently upgraded from my iMac to a 15" Macbook Pro Retina and although I am overall happy with the decision I am having problems with online video playback using Adobe Flash Player.
The videos jitter and stutter at intervals throughout watching and run playback performance.
I have looked into this issue heavily, putting it down to a hardware fault initially. However all of my tests have brought me back to the utilisation of flash player and my GPU.
    Tests I have run.
I have tried the flash player in Safari, Firefox and Chrome (disabling pepper and using just the flash player downloaded)
I have uninstalled flash and reinstalled
I have reset my Mac's SMC and PRAM to ensure that there are not hardware errors
I have changed the GPU swapping on my computer to not use the lighter graphics card and instead make full use of the 1GB Nvidia graphics card
My computer is running the most up to date of all aspects associated with the errors
I have changed the settings of flash player to use and not use hardware acceleration
I haven't seen any other problems on my mac with playback - which is why is leads me to believe that this problem is more aimed at flash player on my system, than the actual system itself.
Has anyone else had these problems on a similar machine? If so are there any fixes? Or am I just going to have to hang fire for bug fixes?
The spec of my computer can be found at this link - as Macbooks can't be changed its literally as spec-ed on this page!

    Any input would be appreciated
    Tim

No they do not. In fact just the opposite. Some with LG displays and ghosting have been told by Apple it is normal and all screens do it. When in fact they do not.
Buy Applecare extended warranty. Otherwise when your 1 year standard warranty runs out and you have any problems with that retina you might as well throw it away. The cost to fix that unit, should a problem of any type become apparent, will be close to buying a new unit. All the parts are either soldered to the logic, Mother, board or glued into the aluminum case parts. The few parts that aren't are the logic board itself, the WiFi/Bluetooth daughter card, the fans & heatsink system and the proprietary SSD that plugs into a socket on the logic board.
The screen is glued into the case lid and can not be changed without replacing the complete lid along with the WiFi/BT antennas, the web cam and of course the aluminum shell.

  • How to optimize text editing performance in Flash Builder 4?

I am running Flash Builder 4.0.0 (build 272416) on a Macbook Pro 2.4 Ghz with 4Gb RAM. I am experiencing extremely poor performance while simply editing moderately complex MXML files.
By poor performance I mean noticeable lag between keystrokes. Type one char, wait 2 or 3 seconds on a 700 lines MXML with about 20 buttons, 2 AdvancedDataGrids, 1 text area. Fairly complex, but that's what I need.
Opening said MXML file takes around 12 seconds.
Saving said MXML results in around 8 seconds: no automatic building, nothing else being done.
On trivial MXMLs there's still a noticeable lag while typing, around 0.5 seconds per char.
At this point Flash Builder 4 is unusable for me: editing .as files is still decent, but for MXMLs is almost impossible to work with, as you can see from the numbers above.
Is there *anything* I can do to improve text editing performance? I've disabled all sort of niceties (automatic completion, indentation and so on) in the prefs, sadly to no avail. This is a major inconvenience for us.

    You understood correctly:
    - I removed all Build Path > Source Paths
    - I moved those paths over to Library Paths > Source attachment
I took inspiration by how the Flex SDK is added to the project. Flex and flex related frameworks (e.g. datavisualization lib)  also specify a Source Attachment under Lib Path. If I remove the source attachment I am not able to drill down into Flex code when I want to by Command-clicking on a class name (or hitting F3).
All my SWC are open source. BTW some of the source paths I was using were the path to the Flex code and to datavisualtization lib, which I think are the biggest library I am linking against. So maybe to recreate, just add those 2 libraries and make sure to add the source path AND source attachment.
I am using RSLs for every library if that matters.
I don't understand why specifying a Source Attachment would cause any issues...  the swc is in sync with the source specified in its source attachment.

  • MBP08 Running Vista 32-bit Heat and Battery Issues

    Hi,
I am a new mac user and have just finished installing Vista Home edition through bootcamp on my new macbook pro. First concern I found was the excessive running temperature (after about 10 mins I was cooking my legs) this has probably already been brought up before but I was wondering whether anyone can bring me up to speed on any possible solutions/fixes?
Also, vista seems to have a hunger for battery lifek, again anything I should know? If the problem persists, I think I am going to opt out of using boot camp altogether.
One last thing, is there any performance difference when installing XP? I don;t mind what OS i use, I'd just like the practicality of windows on my mac.
    Thanks in advance.
    - MushMush146

Sorry I did not see that you specified what MBP you had in your signature.
Anyways: In windows your battery gets drained a little quicker because windows can only work with the external video card (9600 M GT), so you can compare it with running in High Performance all the time.
Windows XP is a little faster then Windows Vista (32 bit) because XP uses less resources. 32-bit systems are always limited to 3.3 GB of RAM, so your Vista is not using all of the 4GB RAM you have on your MBP. You can consider installing Windows Vista 64 bit or Windows XP instead, you will have more RAM and therefore a faster computer.
Note that Leopard is not really a 32 bit system, it also has a 64 bit library (and can handle up to 6GB RAM). The hardware in your MBP is fully 64 bit and can handle up to 8 GB RAM. Snow Leopard is going to be a 64 bit system. (and can theoretically handle up to 128 GB of RAM)
I have no answer for you for the heat issues... probably a driver problem everyone is struggling with. Time for a Bootcamp version 2.2...

  • Flash Playback Issues (atypical problem)

    Equipment/Software:
    - Late 2013 Macbook Pro Retina
    - Mavericks 10.9
    - Safari 7
    - Flash 13
    - All updates installed (OS X + software)
    Playback Issue:
Flash videos begin normally, but then the CPU jumps to about 110% within the first 10 seconds or so. After the CPU jump, video playback begins to stutter severely, making the content unwatchable. Audio playback doesn't appear to be affected. When the CPU jumps and the video begins to stutter, the webpage often freezes and I have to quit Flash via Activity Monitor to regain control (i.e., scrolling, clicking, etc.). This happens across browsers (Safari, Firefox, Chrome), although I use Safari almost exclusively.
This only affects some Flash videos, but not all of them. I have no idea why. The problematic videos play fine on my desktop PC, so it's not a problem with the website.
Perhaps this is a second problem, but I'm also unable to watch some Flash-based streams in fullscreen mode. When I click fullscreen, the video size remains the same, but it moves to the top-left corner of the screen while everything else turns to white. Again, on my desktop PC, I do not experience this issue at all; the exact same stream will adjust to fullscreen mode without issue. I have a 27" monitor on my desktop PC and a retina screen on my Macbook Pro.
    Attempted Solutions (Failed):
    - Uninstalling/reinstalling Flash dozens of times
    - Reset Safari
    - Clear PRAM
    - Repair Disk Permissions
    - Praying to non-existent deity
Something so simple effectively renders 70% of the internet useless. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hello jferreir,
It sounds like you are unable to watch streaming flash based video in Safari despite some great troubleshooting. I would next use the troubleshooting from the following article to help resolve the issue:
