Performance/History States Preference problem Photoshop CS3

Hello everybody, I am using windows 7/32 bits and I am having a huge problem with my photoshop CS3. When I try to open it it says: Could not initialize Photoshop because file is locked.
Then I go to delete the preferences and it works again but when I close it I get a message that says Photoshop stopped working so I try to open it again and it says again: Could not initialize Photoshop because file is locked. I don't know what to do, I've tried everything (restart computer, delete preferences, delete temporary files) and nothing works. Please help if you can I have a lot of work and can't do anything with photoshop acting like this. Thanks very much in advance.
UPDATE: it seems that the locked file got fixed. But now once I open photoshop I change the performance, history states to 100 cause I need to have that setting. Once I do that and try to close photoshop it never closes and it says photoshop stopped working like it crashes or something, but If I don't change the performance/history states it closes normally, what can I do Please help.
A.

I don't know why it should crash.  It's happening right when you change the setting?
Assuming you have installed CS3 from your original media, have you updated to the latest Photoshop CS3 release (10.0.1)?

  • Open JPG as RAW preference missing, Photoshop CS3

Some of my scripts are failing when the "open Jpg as Raw" preference is selected in Photoshop CS3. I found this thread that seems to solve the problem, but the relevant code is missing:
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx?128@@.3be5325f
Could someone please re-post the missing code for those functions?
    Thanks

Photoshop does "play nice" over networks, but seems to catch more OS and server bugs than other applications (mostly because we've added more error detection code over the years after dealing with many OS and server problems).

  • External Editor Problem Photoshop CS3

I've set up Photoshop CS3 as my external editor. A3 exports successfully to Photoshop. However after editing, saving and closing the image in Photoshop and returning to A3, there is a .psd file with no edit changes. It's as if nothing happened in Photoshop except I have a .psd file that's much larger. I just upgraded from A2 and never had this problem before. I'm working on images I imported while I was running A2. Also in A2, this latest image would be the bottom image in the stack. In A3 it's the top image.
Anybody having this problem? Do you know how to get the Photoshop edited image back into A3 successfully?
    Thanks

I've had this happen as well. Forced regenerating previews, updating from master etc. They they all don't work.
It happend the first time I made a PSD (CS4). The second time the thumbnail and preview did show the correct image.
I even tried flattening that first PSD. No difference.
I haven't tried a third PSD yet... Yet another bug to be added to the looooong list of AP3 issues.

  • XMP Schema problem Photoshop CS3 and Bridge

    Hi All,
I am in the process of creating a XMP schema to contain custom metadata.
I have created a schema that works 80%. The problem I have is that although the schema shows up and displays all the fields, the data I input is not savced to the image file. This is the same in both Photoshop CS3 and Bridge.
Has anyone come across this problem before?
I would be happy to send the schema to anyone who is happy to check it over for coding problems.
    Many thanks
    Andrew

    Hi Thomas,
I am not sure how to do this. Do I do this through Console?
I tried and received a nul return.
Also is the file you are referring to the image file or the Schema text file?
Sorry, I am a beginner when it comes to XML....
    Thanks

  • Date preferences problem - Photoshop CS2 and OS X 10.4.6

I am running Photoshop CS2 9.0.1 on two Mac G5s (Mac OS X 10.4.6) and Photoshop CS 8.0 on a Mac G4 (Mac OS X 10.4.6) but now have a problem with the correct display of dates in File Info on the pair of G5s running CS2 9.0.1.
However I configure the date display preferences in International in System Preferences (UK prefs - DD/MM/YYYY) File Info will now only display the date as 'short', i.e. 1/6/06, for example. Naturally this presents a major problem with all my pre-2000 dates. By contrast, with exactly identical System Preferences on the G4 with Photoshop CS, the dates display correctly, i.e. 01/06/2006 or 06/06/1944. One of the G5s also has Photoshop CS 8.0 and also exhibits the same problem.
Is this an OS X 10.4.6 update problem, as I believe, or a combination of flaws between Apple and Adobe? Is there a cure? With a vast number of images in a picture library it is essential to have accurate, pre-2000, dates embedded in the File Info metadata. Can anyone offer an answer, a solution or a workaround?

After much trial and error I eventually discovered a fix. When customizing the Date Format Preferences (UK) (in System Preferences/International) select 'Short' and then drag the day of the week from the list below as the first item in the displayed date; i.e. Thursday 08/06/2006
Then modify the DD, MM and YYYY by highlighting the numbers and selecting the full 2 or 4 number digit from the drop-down menus. This is something that seemed to be fine in 10.4.5 but has changed in 10.4.6!

  • KMZ and 3d Google file import problems (Photoshop CS3 Extended)

I'm new to the forum, so, I hope I didn't miss any answers about this in the FAQs, etc.--I did look.
I have PSCS3 Extended and have downloaded and installed the Google 3D Warehouse plugin. I can access the plugin which takes me to the Google 3D website and I can navigate to and download 3D models. However, when the model is actually brought into Photoshop, it looks very strange. The model is only visible in fixed shape area that appears to be the shape of the initial 3d model. But when I rotate and move the model, it simply slides the view of the image inside the fixed shape area. Very strange. I've tried this with about 8 different downloaded KMZ (Google Earth 4) models and they all do this same strange behavior. Additionally, I downloaded Google's free SketchUp program. The models load and appear fine in that program. I've exported from that program, but the files still have the same problem when loaded up into Photoshop.
I'm really baffled by this. Any guidance would be much appreciated.

    Problem solved!
Prior to my posting here, I had checked Dell's Customer Care driver download site for the latest video card driver and had downloaded the most recent one they had posted for my video card. I also had let Windows Vista "check for updated driver" for the video card and it reported that I had the most recent video driver.
    WRONG!
Instead of relying on Dell's Customer Care driver download web site or Windows Vista's updated driver button, I decided in one last desperate attempt to go directly to nVidia's web site to check for the most recent driver (I know, I should have done this to begin with, but if Dell and Windows offer driver updating ease, I had the silly idea that it would actually work correctly!). The nVidia site had a driver that was one month newer. I downloaded it and installed it and now the KMZ file is appearing correctly in PSCS3, and, so are all the other 3d file formats (3DS, DAE, etc.)!
Hope this information helps anyone else out there who might be having this problem. And, the problem was NOT PhotoShop or Google or the plug-in, the problem was Dell and Microsoft's driver support not updating driver support in a timely manner.

  • Installing Adobe Photoshop CS3 on Leopard (headaches really...)

    Hi,
I'm a Tiger user and i have another Mac that runs Leopard. I have Photoshop CS3 on a Disc and used in to install on my mac with Tiger, then when i try with the mac that runs Leopard i run into some issues.
    One Error Message states :

When i open the .Dmg on the disc (or when i drag it to the HD) i get the following message :
The Finder cannot complete the operation because some data

    (Error code -36)
If anyone can help me it'd be greatly appreciated. like i said i've done this before successfully on a freshly updated Tiger. this problem is new to me. thanks for reading.

    *"The application Photoshop CS3*
    *(beta10.0x20061208) [k] (Universal) quit*
    unexpectedly."
For starters, you're using a beta version, dated Dec 8, 2006...which is not final and still contains bugs... CS3 was not released until Sprint 2007. and second, based on it's file name, your application appears to have been illegally "Kracked"...hense the [k].
If you do in fact have a valid legal license of Photoshop, you should probably post your question on Adobe's forums:

  • Photoshop CS3 freezes on edit preferences performance

I know this is the Lightroom forum, but I could not get any help on the photoshop windows forum, and there are a ton of experts willing to help here, so I hope you will bear with me - thanks!
I have been having performance problems with photoshop CS3, where all types of activities become slower and slower. I tried to open the edit > preferences > performance dialog and this causes photoshop to immediately freeze without showing the performance dialog and photoshop eventually becomes "not responding" every time.
Is this a known issue? I have not been able to find any reference in my searches. I have updated the latest patch to CS3.
    Here is my system info:
    Adobe Photoshop Version: 10.0.1
    Computer: DellXPS710
Video: Nvidia GeForce 8600 GTS and Nvidia GeForce 7900GS
    Operating System: (Vista home premium)
System architecture: Intel CPU Family:6, Model:15, Stepping:7 with MMX, SSE Integer, SSE FP, SSE2
    Physical processor count: 4
    Processor speed: 2394 MHz
    Built-in memory: 2813 MB
    Free memory: 1515 MB
Memory available to Photoshop: 1659 MB
Memory used by Photoshop: 55 %
    Image cache levels: 6
    Application folder: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS3\
    Temporary file path: C:\Users\Rory\AppData\Local\Temp\
Photoshop scratch has async I/O enabled
    Scratch volume(s):
    K:\, 465.8G, 452.8G free
What I have tried so far:
    - Uninstall, run CS3clean script at level 1, reinstall CS3
    - Reset the preferences by deleting the preference file as per adobe documentation
    - I have only one printer installed, no network printers
    - Turn McAffee off (I think - it seems complicated to turn off)
    - Confirmed I have the latest nVidia drivers
    - Turned file indexing off on the scratch drive
    - In msconfig, I have turned off all startup items and system services, to no avail.
    - Run in safe start mode - THIS WORKED. As you can see in the specs I moved the scratch drive while in safe start mode, but this did not help.
Therefore I appear to have a conflict somewhere. All my other software, including Lightroom and Bridge are working fine.
I am going to test my memory next but it is unlikely to be the culprit since the safe start worked. Apparently Microsoft is releasing the Vista SP1 tomorrow, so I will update Vista.
Also, I would like to see if the nvidia drivers are causing the problem, but I do not know how to turn them off and use a generic video driver. If anyone can help of this please advise.
If anyone has any other suggestions I would be most grateful.
    Rory

    >Also, I would like to see if the nvidia drivers are causing the problem, but I do not know how to turn them off and use a generic video driver. If anyone can help of this please advise.
I am not sure that the actual Nvidia drivers cause problems; however, nview desktop manager was known to cause problems, but it only exists on Xp. If you really want to remove the drivers on Vista, then goto Control Panel -> System And Maintenance. In left panel pick Device Manager and in the devices screen expand Display Adapters. Right-click on the display adapter name and pick Uninstall. You will then need to re-boot.
Adobe also has an article on Optimising Photoshop on XP and Vista. In case you haven't seen it here is the reference:

Drop the 100 percent for photoshop use to 60 percent. At 100 percent none of your other software that runs in the background can breathe. In other words your starving your computer of RAM.
Also change your virtual memory to a custom size so it will not expand and contract and fight for the same scratch space.
Ideal is to have 2 internal hard drives. C drive will have virtual memory on it and the other internal hard drive will be for scratch. If you have 2 hard drives you get rid of the problem of the same read write head trying to write to two different areas at the same time and slowing down photoshop.

  • Adobe Photoshop CS3 has stopped working: A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.

I recently purchased a new desktop computer and installed Adobe CS3 Master Edition on it and I get the following error:
Adobe Photoshop CS3 has stopped working: A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
Out of the entire suite of tools only Photoshop will not launch. The weird thing is i also had the same Adobe programs installed on my laptop and I have not made any installation updates to that machine and i am getting the same error. I have always installed the same software on my two home machines with no problem until now. Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,

    You'll probably going to have to uninstall, then re-install the application; but you need to provide a lot more information;
    BOILERPLATE TEXT:
Note that this is boilerplate text.
If you give complete and detailed information about your setup and the issue at hand,
such as your platform (Mac or Win),
exact versions of your OS, of Photoshop (not just "CS6", but something like CS6v.13.0.6) and of Bridge,
your settings in Photoshop > Preference > Performance
the type of file you were working on,
machine specs, such as total installed RAM, scratch file HDs, total available HD space, video card specs, including total VRAM installed,
what troubleshooting steps you have taken so far,
    what error message(s) you receive,
if having issues opening raw files also the exact camera make and model that generated them,
if you're having printing issues, indicate the exact make and model of your printer, paper size, image dimensions in pixels (so many pixels wide by so many pixels high). if going through a RIP, specify that too.
    etc.,
someone may be able to help you (not necessarily this poster).
a screen shot of your settings or of the image could be very helpful too.

  • Why won't Photoshop revert to earlier history state after image resize when scripted?

I've written an Applescript to automate watermarking and resizing images for my company. Everything generally works fine — the script saves the initial history state to a variable, resizes the image, adds the appropriate watermark, saves off a jpeg, then reverts to the initial history state for another resize and watermark loop.
The problem is when I try not to use a watermark and only resize by setting the variable `wmColor` to `"None"` or `"None for all"`. It seems that after resizing and saving off a jpeg, Photoshop doesn't like it when I try to revert to the initial history state. This is super annoying, since clearly a resize should count as a history step, and I don't want to rewrite the script to implement multiple open/close operations on the original file. Does anyone know what might be going on? This is the line that's generating the problem (it's in both the doBig and doSmall methods, and throws an error every time I ask it just to do an image resize and change current history state):
set current history state of current document to initialState

As many others here I use JavaScript so I can’t really help you with your problem.
But I’d like to point to »the lazy person’s out« – with many operations that result in creating a new file on disk I simply duplicate the image (and flatten in the same step) to minimize any chance of damaging the original file if the Script should not perform as expected.

  • Cant close files or quit Photoshop CC!  Also cant delete history states..

I having trouble with closing documents and even quitting Photoshop CC.
I tried the menu, shortcuts and the close button on the document frame.
Photoshop reacts to the shortcut by marking "file"/"Photoshop" in the menu when i push command+w or commmand+q but nothing happens.
I have to force quit photoshop each time. All other buttons work exept when i try to delete history states in the history panel. Nothing happens when pushing the "delete current state" button.
Can someone help me with a fix??

Are Photoshop and OS fully updated and have you performed the usual trouble-shooting routines (trashing prefs by pressing command-alt-shift/ctrl-alt-shift while starting Photoshop until the appropriate dialog appears after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences you’ve changed, 3rd party plug-ins deactivation, system maintenance, cleaning caches, font validation, etc.)

  • Adobe Photoshop CS3 had encountered a problem V10.0.0.0

Photoshop V10.0.0 will not open. It crashes as its loading the Twain drivers at start up. I am running Windows XP.
I've tried deleting the preferences file, reloading Photoshop and, as a desperate measure, deleting and reloading CS3. Nothing has worked. I tried upgrading photoshop but still no luck. Set my default printer to PDF, still nothing. Disabled my firewall, still nothing.....
The worst bit is its been working quite happily since June 07 and then in late Nov early Dec it decided not to work. I also had a printer problem during this time and reinstalled the printer software, but photoshop wasn't working before I did that.
    The error I get is:
Adobe Photoshop CS3 has encountered a problem and needs to close
    Error signature App Name: photoshop.exe
    AppVer 10.0.0.0
    ModName: unknown
    ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset 0.0.0.0.0.0.0.4
Any assistance would be great - I am getting desperate!
    Regards
    Sally

When I uninstalled my Dell 944 printer Photoshop worked. When I reloaded my printer it crashed again. It seems to crash everytime it loads the TWAIN part of the photoshop opening screen.
I've tried downloading and installing the latest driver from Dell for the printer but its 2005 and the same as the one I have so no luck there.
I still need my printer to work (its my scanner as well) but I am desperate to get Photoshop back! Any clues??

trying to launch photoshop cs3 on a mac running OS10.6.8 i keep getting the error message: Licensing for this product has stopped working  you cannot use this product at this time. You must repair the problem by uninstalling and then reinstalling this product or contacting your IT adminstrator or Adobe customer support for help
I already Uninstalled and reinstalled the product and it still does not work.

    Hi,
Try to uninstall the software again and you have to manually
    Delete the following folders:
    [Startup Disk]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe PCD
    [Startup Disk]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/caps
    [Startup Disk]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/backup
    [Startup Disk]/Library/Preferences/FLEXnet Publisher/
    [Startup Disk]/Library/Application Support/FLEXnet Publisher/
Go to Applications-->Utilities-->Disk Utility, Open it and Select the MAC HD and then click on Repair permissions.
After that try to run the cleaner tool as mentioned by kglad.
Restart machine and then try to install again.
*** Make sure , you only delete these folders if there is no other adobe applications installed on the machine. As if you have any other Adobe application of the suite ( not free applications ) then it will be a problem.

  • HELP!! When I open Photoshop CS3 it states "Could not initialize Photoshop because you do not have the necessary access privileges".

When I open Photoshop CS3 it states "Could not initialize Photoshop because you do not have the necessary access privileges".
Also, InDesign crashes when trying to open it.
    I am running OS X 10.6.8
The most recent task I did was a Mac OS snow leopard software update.
I created a new user account and both Photoshop and InDesign work perfectly when logged into that account, but the problem is persisting with my old account.
I tried, but didn't receive much help from Adobe.
    Any help would be appreciated!

I see. Well, if it works on a new account, then I guess that' good enough. You might still wanan try and fix your permissions on zthe otehr account, though. It may just require digging into the terminal and commandline operations to recursively apply this stuff to all folders and sub-folders...
