Performance information and tools

I just installed the windows pro 8.1 update and now a valued resource is gone from control panel. the performance and information tool. Please tell me the so called experts at ms decided it was useless. PLEASE bring it back. the tools it provided were
extremely useful!

While I realize the specific packaging of the particular items and the advice about what may be going wrong in the Performance Information and Tools panel is what you're after, it's long gone. Microsoft seems comfortable with removing a lot of things
lately. But beyond that grousing, for reference there is an ability to access a "God Mode" control panel that lists everything you can configure/do...

This is a geeky way to get every known control panel applet all in one place in one Explorer window, which can easily be searched (as can the Start Menu, but some folks think this is cooler).
Open a Windows File Explorer window and navigate to your Users folder:
C:\Users\YourUsername
Create a subfolder named exactly as follows:
GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}
Drag a shortcut to this folder to your desktop or somewhere in your Start Menu structure.
When you open this shortcut you will see a list with every configuration applet available all at once, and you can search it for such words as "performance".

let me explain :
in BI 4.0, the Data Federator Query Server engine is now part of the server-side Adaptive Processing Server .
You only invoke this architecture when you select "Multi Source Enabled" - any other entry point is NOT using the Data Federation Service.
So - if you select SingleSource - that's not using DF.
However, it is entirely possible to select "Multi Source Enabled" then only use 1 connection in the MSU !!
Having said the above, Your second question doesn't make sense.
Unless you mean, using the Data Federator middleware driver in BI 4.0 IDT, to connect to an XI 3.1 Data Federator Query Server? (i.e. consuming the 'old source' in the new enviornment)
This backwards compatibility was delivered to facilitate transition of DF customers, especially since there is no standalone DF product in BI 4.0 (yet)

Performance Monitoring and Profiling

Hi,
I am looking for an Opensource or freeware Performance monitoring and profiling tool. Right now we are using Java melody but it is just a monitoring
tool where it doesnot give much information on the memory leaks, etc. I need to a tool which captures the memory leaks and GC operations in detail.

Measure performance of windows 8 machines using windows Performance Toolkit (WPR tool)

I want to create performance baseline for windows 8 machines(like time to winlogon, time to desktop and total boot time etc.). For this I used windows performance toolkit - WPR tool to record or log performance data(using boot scenario) into log file(.etl). I
opened generated ETL file using WPA(windows performance analyzer), in processes section, always I am able to see winlogon.exe and explorer.exe time more than 2 minutes on different machines. when I did it for windows XP(using xperf) machine
winlogon.exe always showing as less than 30 seconds.
Can you please let me know, how I can get correct data for following tasks using WPR tool:
1) Time to Winlogon(winlogon.exe)
2) Time to Desktop(explorer.exe )
3) Total Boot time
4) Time to Outlook Start
5) Time to Full Outlook Load

I have a 2010 Mac Mini running Yosemite and Server which I use
as a headless home server.
I have is set up to allow screen sharing and can connect to it and
control it with my iMac, Macbook Pro, iPhone, and a 2011 Mini Server
that I use as an HTPC.

I have iTunes Home Sharing set up on it and have my entire iTunes
library on it. I can then use any of my Macs to play Movies or Songs
from it and only keep locally a select subset of that on my individual
devices.
Rather than and update server, I utilize Server's Caching Service. The caching
server will duplicate any update download (system or MacApp Store purchases)
any time a device that is connected to my network down loads one. The update will
then be stored locally and all other devices will download the update from it which
can be faster than from Apple directly. This has the advantage of only having to download
once with limited bandwidth internet connections. There is also an Update Server service
available, but it is some what more involved in setting up. However, it will download
and store all available updates.
There is another thing as well if you do not care for syncing things like Contacts, Calendar, etc.
to iCloud, you can set Server up to sync these items across devices locally.

It would be good if one could do some performance analysis and monitoring of
a Forte application at production time.
By performance analysis I mean measure the time some selected methods take
to return. In a CS application such a method would be some selected method
of a key remote service representative of the application's activity.
One would like to mesure the min, max, average time, and also give a
threshhold which when reached will automatically generate an alarm or some
pre-defined processing.
The most powerful way would be to use a SNMP application through a Forte -
SNMP gateway. (see the G. Puterbaugh paper "Building a Forte-SNMP gateway"
in the 96' Forte Forum proceedings).
But before going that far some simple means accessible through EConsole
would already be great.
A collegue of mine when to that Forum and reported that Puterbaugh said that
such an agent is currently missing, but that its implementation is not
difficult.
I looked at all the agents and their instruments. I came to the following
conclusions :
1) instrumented data are available at the granularity level of a partition,
not at a smaller granularity. For example, the DistObjectMgr agent gives you
very useful information : the number of events (sent/received) and the
number of (remote) methods (called/invoked), but this for the entire
partition. Thus it prevents making tuned observations (unless you partition
in a special way your application to put in a dedicated partition the thing
you want to observe and only this thing).
2) there is no instrumented data related to processing time.
This leads me to the point that no information observed by the standard
agents help me figuring out my performances. Thus I have to add at
development time some lines of code to the methods I potentially want to
observe later at production time to generate the appropriate information a
custom agent will then display (process) with the appropriate instruments.
Does someone share this position ?
Has someone implemented such an agent and assotiated means ?
PS: I will probably implement my own one if no other way around.

Crystal report - Performance Information

Hi,
The performance of a report execution can be get calculated by the following 3 items of Performance Information dialog,
Performance Timing node has:
1. Run the database query
2. Read database records
3. Format first page
In that, i understand the first two things, first one is the performance numbers to run the database query, second one is to read the database result-set after the query being executed.
What does Format first page means? From the name i understand that its the performance timings for formatting the first page of the report. But i wanna know what crystal would do in this case???
Because in one of my reports, the Format first page timings is similar to Run database query timing!!!!
Can anyone let know what would be the issue and how to improve the performance timings of Format first page??

But in my reports there is no Page header, Page N of M, Grouping, sorting, etc.
Its simply a data dump with 41 columns and around 50 rows in a page. Whats our end-user need is to just get a data dump by exporting the report into excel. So the columns in the reports are simply overlapped since there is no importance given to the look and feel of the report.
And why I'm wondering is the Format first page taking almost the same time of Run the Database query!!!
Any further thoughts?

I want to create ChildEmp object for display in web-i report. How can i use recursive in Information Design Tools? or Do you have other solution for this?

Hi,
NoDim is a function of the Bex query formula , so you can't delegate that to the cube.
What object is, and what are you trying to do.   For example, Sales, and trying to leave out Currency attribute.
You can do an awdful of customizing in a Business Layer or Data Foundation, that is where your solution where probably come from.
