Performance issue entering monitor etc

Dear Sirs,
Our system currently feels quite slow. When entering the monitor for a load, or managing a cube the system it takes a while.
In SM50 I can see it reads at table  (sequential) på RSMONIPTAB (which contains 1 millions records).
SAP help.sap.com describes a process u201CArchivation of Request Administration Datau201D, which might help? Look below. However, I do not like the paragraph marked in bold. What kind of features do they reference to.
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/42/ead8d7b55e1bd2e10000000a11466f/frameset.htm
Archiving request administration data allows you to store the administration and log information for a request in an archive. In BI, tables store the totals records that the system requires so that the request is not set to red because information is missing. This function allows you to limit the size of the administration and log tables, RSDONE und RSMON. This improves performance for actions performed for the request and in the affected InfoProviders and saves memory space in the database without affecting the status set by the system.
For certain functions and processes that access requests, you have to reload request administration data to the BI administration and log tables.
Any hints on the issue in general; performance issue with monitor, please let me know.
Best regards,
Jørgen

Guess note below describes gives more info about situation. However, not with a clear solution :=)
SAP Note 694895 - Performance and tables RSMON, RSDONE
Note Language: English Version: 5 Validity: Valid Since 29.11.2005
Summary
Symptom
Tables RSMON* (for example, table RSMONMESS) and tables RS*DONE (for
example, table RSSELDONE) continuously increase in size in the BW system
with each request that is created.
Currently there is no option to reduce these tables.
Do not delete any entries from these tables. If you did, this would have
the following consequences:
When you carry out the next check for the requests for which you have
deleted records from these tables, the check will not run properly.
The status of the relevant requests turns RED in the monitor, and also in
all affected data targets that contain the request.
The affected request and all subsequent requests are no longer visible in
the reporting - all queries on the affected data targets then only display
old data.
Numerous dumps will occur in various situations.
You will not be able to repair the errors caused by the deletion.
More Terms
RSMONMESS; RSSELDONE; Performance; RSMON; RSDONE;
Cause and Prerequisites
This is caused by a program error.
Solution
In the next BW release (BI in SAP NetWeaver 2004s - that is BW 7.0), you
will be able to archive entries from the RSMON* and RS*DONE tables using a
request archiving process that archives the administrative information for
requests.
After archiving, these tables are then considerably reduced in size.
Until then, there is unfortunately no option for reducing the tables.

  • Performance Issues - Screen Redraw etc.?

I have a new MacBook Pro 15" (8GbRAM, 2 GHz i7) Using 30" Cinema Display, OS 10.7.2. I'm using Photoshop CS 5.1 (12.1 x64) Extended. After working for awhile I get performance lag -mostly drawing, cloning etc. Then the cursor starts behaving unpredictably -usually drawing slightly BELOW where the crosshairs are. Then the screen refreshes slows and the screen redraw occurs in very large blocks -VERY slowly. Reloading PShop doesn't help, but rebooting the laptop does solve the problem -until it happens again. In an earlier post I was advised that PShop CS4 was the cause (not compatible w/Lion). But I now have the latest version of Photoshop (my primary application).
    - In this situation, I would suspect corrupted PShop Prefs, but I don't think that's the case, as reboot solves the problem. It was also the exact same issue when I ran CS4.
    - Could this be an issue wuth using the 15" Macbook Pro with a 30" display? I was also advised that I could NOT upgrade the video card (soldered to motherboard) but this is not a MacBook Air.
    - RAM issue? I did upgrade to 8Gb -but I purchased quality RAM from a reputable dealer. I have had no crashes or other issues (other than the Photoshop issue. I will test the RAM.
    - Any know CS5 issues/bugs in this area?
    Thanks

I think you're seeing more of the 1.7 video driver bugs.  The cursor offset is a known one, along with some "cursor doesn't draw correctly" bugs.
You can try turning off OpenGL drawing in preferences to avoid many of the problems (don't know if that'll fix the cursor or not).
But the real fixes need to come from Apple fixing their display drivers.

  • Port monitoring performance issues

We have 3500Xl series switches and some are running port monitoring so we can gather data on what kind of traffic is flowing through our network. Is there a way to show the performance stats of the switch as well. For example, see below.

    Hi,
I noticed you are attempting this on a 3500XL switch.I'll attach a useful reference to some constraints with SPAN on XL
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/products/hw/switches/ps708/products_tech_note09186a008015c612.shtml#topic1
These older switches use a blocking, shared memory architecture and shared buffers for groups of 4 ports. One performance condition that is possible in this type of scenario is intermittent packet loss within the group of ports when traffic is high. This condition becomes probable when utilisation of ports start exceeding about 70% of bandwidth simultaneously on all ports. The symptom is intermittent because of the nature of  traffic is typically bursty
    Example:
    Monitor port is 48.
    Servers are 45,46,47 -100MB
Let's say a backup is run on the servers and all servers start to hit 70% of available bandwidth. If port is monitoring, then this is = 3 x 70MB = 210MB which exceeds monitor port.
Monitor port would see overruns drops etc
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/products/hw/switches/ps607/products_tech_note09186a0080125913.shtml#troubleshoot_interface_errors
but the server ports could intermittently start dropping traffic because of available buffer taken up by monitor port. There's no real way to determine at what rate this will happen but something to keep an eye out for. You may isolate the monitor port to it's own group of 4.

  • MacBook Pro performance issues w/2nd monitor and FCP7

I have this MacBook Pro bought brand-new in January 2010:
      Model Name: MacBook Pro
      Model Identifier: MacBookPro5,2
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
      Processor Speed: 3.06 GHz
      Number Of Processors: 1
      Total Number Of Cores: 2
      L2 Cache: 6 MB
      Memory: 8 GB
      Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz
and until today had never attached a second monitor to it. Today I hooked up my Samsung 24" to do some dual screen editing in Final Cut 7.0.3. I was unable to play back my video at full speed in the second monitor, and after a few seconds of skippy playback I'd get that error message about unable to play back video at full speed and to check my RT settings. I was using a Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter. My computer has no issues playing the video in the laptop's monitor at any resolution and any quality settings (I've never changed the RT settings or anything else in the menu ever but I tried every combination this time). I then tried using my TV as a 2nd monitor with an HDMI adapter. Same performance issues. I then tried my friend's newer 13" MBP 8,1 and it performed flawlessly with the same project & footage. I feel like my $3,000 computer should outperform a $1,200 one even if mine is a year and a half older. Any advice?
    Chris

Wow, you posted this perfectly to coincide with an identical problem, albeit using Logic Pro 9.1.5 rather than FCP.
Last week, I purchased a 23" external monitor to use alongside my "flagship" 2011 15" hi-res, 2.3 i7 Macbook Pro with 8Gb of RAM.
It is connected via a mini-DVI to D-sub analog (not that that should matter?) and all appeared fine.
The first issue I had was with my MBP's fan now running CONSTANTLY, when I have the second monitor attached. Even when the machine is completely idle.
When using the machine to record audio, this is a fairly hefty problem and not something I had anticipated - indeed why would I anticipate such a thing?
What is far, far worse though is that over the last few days I have had repeated problems with performance drop-outs and errors in Logic and I have trying to fathom out why. Realising that the only major system change made, was the above monitor connection, I ran some tests.
I restarted my MBP, no other apps were running and with my new 23" monitor attached acting as main display with MBP built in display on as secondary
I loaded up a fairly demanding Logic project which was hitting 40% to 60% CPU usage when using the built in MBP display last week
I ran activity monitor and had CPU usage history open
The above project now repeatedly overloads and playback halts in a given 8 bar section - with CPU at 80% most of the time
I disconnected the external display, no shut down, I just let the machine switch to the built in 15".
Started the same project, the same 8 bar section and hey presto - CPU usage back down to 40% to 60%
The above was reflected in the CPU usage history with the graph showing CPU use down by about a half, when running this Logic project WITHOUT the external display.
There is a very useful benchmark Logic project that has been used as a test by many users to gauge Logic performance on given Apple hardware.
The project has about 100 tracks pre-configured with CPU intensive plugins, designed to tax the CPU.
The idea is that you load up the project with tracks muted, press play and then unmute the tracks steadily until Logic us unable to play contiunously because of a system performance error.
On my MBP, with the external monitor NOT attached, I can play back around 50 of the audio tracks in this benchmark project.
With the monitor attached, I can get about 22 tracks playing.... which is actually a far worse a performance drop (-50% I think!?) than with the first example!
I did also try with just the external monitor attached and not the MBP display and performance was about 10% better than with dual monitors - so still extremely poor, to say the least.
This machine is the flagship MBP and has a dedicated AMD Radeon HD6750 GPU which should take care of most if not ALL graphics processing - I mean it's capable of running some pretty demanding games!
Putting aside the issue of constant fan noise, there is no reason AT ALL, why using an external monitor should tax the i7 CPU this way - it's not as though Logic is graphically demanding... far from it.
I am on 10.6.8, Logic 9.1.5, all apps up to date via "Software Update".
I will of course, be contacting Apple...

    Hello,
I just want to reiterate that we are very committed to working on
this issue, and that our goal is to find out the root of the problem. But
first I'd like to narrow down the avenues by process of elimination.
Open Cursor is something that is commonly used in today's RDBMS. I
know that you must test your query in ISQL using some kind of execute
immediate, but Sybase should be able to handle an open cursor. I was
wondering if your Sybase expert commented on the fact that the server is
not responding to commonly used command like 'open cursor'. According to
our developer, we are merely following the API from Sybase, and open cursor
is not something that particularly slows down a query for several minutes
(except maybe the very first time). The logs show that Forte is waiting for
a status from the DB server. Actually, using prepared statements and open
cursor ends up being more efficient in the long run.
    Some questions:
    1) Have you tried to do a prepared statement with open cursor in your ISQL
session? If so, did it have the same slowness?
    2) How big is the table you are querying? How many rows are there? How many
    are returned?
    3) When there is a hang in Forte, is there disk-spinning or CPU usage in
the database server side? On the Forte side? Absolutely no activity at all?
We actually have a Sybase set-up here, and if you wish, we could test out
your database and Forte PEX here. Since your queries seems to be running
off of only one table, this might be the best option, as we could look at
everything here, in house. To do this:
    a) BCP out the data into a flat file. (character format to make it portable)
    b) we need a script to create the table and indexes.
    c) the Forte PEX file of the app to test this out.
    d) the SQL staement that you issue in ISQL for comparison.
If the situation warrants, we can give a concrete example of
possible errors/bugs to a developer. Dial-in is still an option, but to be
able to look at the TOOL code, database setup, etc. without the limitations
of dial-up may be faster and more efficient. Please let me know if you can
provide this, as well as the answers to the above questions, or if you have
    any questions.

    We did that trick already.
When it is hanging, I can see what is doing.
It is doing OPEN CURSOR. But not clear the exact statement of the cursor
    it is trying to open.
When we run the query directly to Sybase, not using Forte, it is clearly
    not opening any cursor.
And running it directly to Sybase many times, the response is always
    consistently fast.
It is just when the query runs from Forte to Sybase, it opens a cursor.
But again, in the Forte code, Alex is not using any cursor.
In trying to capture the query,we even tried to audit any statementcoming
to Sybase. Same thing, just open cursor. No cursor declaration anywhere.==============================================

  • Performance issues with Motion (position, scale, rotate) and GTX 590

I'm experiencing performance issues with my Premiere Pro CC when I scale, position or rotate a clip in the program monitor.
I have no performance issues with playback! It's only, when i move something with the mouse or by changing the x,y-values of Position in the Motion-Dialog in video effects.
Premiere then lags terribly and updates the program monitor only about once per second - this makes it very difficult and cumbersome to work and position things.
On a second Premiere installation on my laptop, performance is fine and fluid - allthough it doesn't have GPU support and is a much slower computer.
I'm pretty sure this has somehow to do with my graphic card, which is a Nvidia GTX 590.
I was told by the support, that it is actually a dual graphic card, which is not supported/liked by Premiere.
The thing is, until the latest Premiere update, I did not have performance issues at all with this card.
I also read on the forum that others with the GTX 590 did not experience any problems with it
So where does this come from?
There is no change in performance whether or not I activate Mercury Playback Engine GPU acceleration.
I also tried deactivating one of the 2 gpus, but there also was no change.
Does anyone else know this problem and has anyone a solution?
I'm running Premiere CC on a Win 7 64bit engine, Nvidia GTX 590, latest driver (of today),

I am suffering from the same phenomenon since I updated just before christmas, I think.
I am hardly able to do scaling, rotating and translating in the program monitor itslef - whil motion has been highlighted in teh effect controls.
In the effect controls I can scale, rotate etc however.
Also I have noticed there is a yellow box with handles in teh program monitor. I remember it was white before.
I cannot figure out what to change in my preferences. What has happened?

  • How should I report forum performance issues?

The forums rely heavily on the caching features of browsers to improve the speed of page rendering. Performance of these forums should greatly improve after a few pages because more and more of the images, css and javascript is cached in the browser. As a consequence, when reporting forums performance issues the report should include some information on the state of the browser cache to determine whether the issue is a browser issue or a server issue. Such detailed information is generally not available from just watching the browser screen, but needs to come from specialized tools such as performance monitor plugins and recording proxies.
The preferred report method for performance issues is to use the speed reporting features build into or available as a plugin for a browser for both the page you want to report a problem with and several refence pages in the site. Detailed instructions are listed below separated out for different browsers. If possible, please use Firefox for submitting the report because it provides an export format that can be read back electronically.
    Known performance issues
The performance issues with any screen with a Rich Text Editor, such as the Reply window and the compose Private Message window have been acknowleged and improvements are being implemented.
    Mozilla Firefox (preferred)
Warning: it is currently not recommended to generate a speed report when logged in. The speed report has enough detail for somebody else to hijack your session and impersonate you on the forums. Since Google Chrome does not have an export format for the Resource Tracking information best current practice is to take a screenshot and note the hover details for any resource with a tail that is longer then 25% of the total load time. When you report a performance problem please attach the screenshots and an explanation of how you are experiencing the issues (for instance how much slower it is then normal)  and include a description of your internet connection (dial-up, dsl, cable etc.) and the country from where you are connecting.

The Apple Safari Web Inspector has a Resources panel similar to the Resources panel in the Google Chrome developer tools. To get there, follow these steps:
    Show the menu bar.
    Go to preferences
    Go to the Advanced Tab
Check “Show  Develop menu in menu bar”.
From the Develop menu select “Show Web  Inspector”.
Collecting the performance information and exporting works exactly the same as in Google Chrome. Please refer to the instructions for Google Chrome.
    Microsoft Internet Explorer
IE does not have native features to analyze web traffic. No plugins have been found that produce the required information (please let us know if we missed any). For now, please reproduce the issue with Firefox, Chrome or Safari.
Please note that due to the reliance on Javascript for the interactive effects the performance of these forums will be much better on MS IE 8 then on previous versions of MS IE.

  • BW  Performance issue

    Hi,
We have done reorge for four tablespaces PSAPBTABI, PSAPBTABD, PSAPODSD, PSAPODSI  in our BW System 7.0. And we have created new tablespaces for above our tablespaces like PSAPODSINEW for all the above tablespaces and made the old tablespaces as offline. After doing this activity we are facing lot of performance problems.
For e.g while our BW guys are running one report for the portal it is executing but after a long time like after 2+ hours the page goes empty. The report is CL_SQL_RESULT_SET=============CP, not only this report but lot of reports. We have done statistics update for the tables that report uses using BRCONNECT and also rebuild the indexex for all the tables. But still no luck.

    Hi,
For the BASIS related performance issues :
    1. This is mostly DBA related : Keeping an eye on the DB space to monitor the growth of the database and look at space available and needed to prevent shutting down the BW server.
    2. Making sure that backups don't consume a lot of time to interfere with daily operations.
    3. Doing load balancing
    4. Making sure IDocs are flowing freely.
    5. Making sure that shared drives and servers don't overshoot the capacity.
    6. Patching servers and server instances to improve performance.
The BW consultants can monitor the the space , etc using tcode DB02. The DBAs have their own tools to monitor these parameters.
    Cheers,
    Kedar

There we have it, I think that that is all you need to know to perhaps give opinions and advice. Allow me to elaborate on why I am posting today after browsing this wonderful forum for the last two weeks. (...and by the way, my hat's off to some of you knowledgeable regulars for helping out a lot of newbies and folks in trouble!) Without further adieu:
    Problem #1: POWER ISSUE
When, or if, I remove AC Power from my PC for whatever reason I run into a problem in which after reconnecting the AC Power and attempting to turn on the computer it goes into a 3-5 second startup loop in which the PC does not post, but rather cycles power to all of the components indefinitely. I notice the LEDs on my optical drives cycling repeatedly ad infinitum until I power off using the 4-second hold method, and then press the power button again. At this point the PC boots up fine, and boots up fine going forward from all restarts and shut downs. How strange? I've never, EVER, encountered something like this before.
    Problem #2: PERFORMANCE ISSUE
This PC has a handful of serious performace issues.
    3dMark03 scored horribly.
Prime95 runs ridiculously slow although there are no erros! It runs much more quickly on my work PC which is a PIII 866mhz with 384MB of PC133 RAM.
I receive, on no regular frequency, or while doing anything in particular, Explorer memory errors. Not BSOD's mind you, but "...blah blah blah referenced memory address xxxxx-xxxxx and could not be written". This causes Explorer to restart itself, blowing away the start menu, task bar, and any Explorer windows open. They reappear, of course, without incident.
The most off performance issue of all is that when opening an Explorer window for either of my IDE HDs, designated D and E drives, I find that when using the highlighting rectangle tool the Explorer window freezes or lags. I can double-click and open or move/copy files without incident, but if I attempt to highlight by this method this halt or lag occurs.
Also, since my update of the BIOS from 1.2 to 1.7, and then to 1.8 system startup times prior to Windows loading are HORRID. I have disabled just about everything, and yet the SATA BIOS loads for 5 seconds, and then I must wait 20 seconds for Windows itself to come to the login screen. No other BIOS related issues to report per se, but this is terrible for what should be a blazingly fast computer.
Now let's see.. what have I tried to do to repair the issues?
    1) 2 BIOS flashes. First from 1.2->1.7, and then from 1.7->1.8. Ostensibly this was just "because". The power user need to have the latest! I noticed the incorrect CPU temperature being reported, however.. This led to me buying this massive ThermalTake HSF to replace my stocker. I also added more thermal goop than I ever have before, as well as a PCI slot fan before I became aware that it was a BIOS issue! GRRRR MSI.
    2) I thought perhaps for the one issue that one of the hard drives was an issue, and even perhaps for power, but I replaced each with new drives and tested all 4 on another PC. NO problems. Also I should perhaps mention that my IDE drives are all hooked up using Antec Cobra cables. Expensive yes, but why the hell not, right? I've never seen a hang-off grounding wire for IDE before. Decided not to use them as I could think of a great place to screw them in, nor have other PC using them had trouble skipping the ground wire.
    3) I unplugged every molex cable, the 4-pin CPU power, and the 20-pin ATX power and rerranged them all - as well as removed and then reinserted the RAM.
    4) I tried changing my memory timings and power management settings, etc in BIOS. Nothing seem to impact the issue. I didn't fiddle with the voltages, but I should not need to running the RAM at SPD or lower settings and without overclocking the system at all!
    5) Another issue that I had that seems to have vanished, come back, vanished, and then come back a "little bit" is my USB ports. When set to enable legacy devices in BIOS my USB items like my Logitech wireless keyboard would just cycle power and refuse to function. Also my UPS connected VIA USB seems to sometimes handshake with Windows and sometimes not. I've tried using all of the different ports, etc but the problem remains. I NEED 6 ports for my devices so it is all that I could do!
    6) I have an Enermax 550w EG651P-VE(FMA) with 36 amps on each voltage rail on it's way, and it should arrive tomorrow. Despite all of the crap regarding power supplies that I see on this board I am not confident that it's the problem. That Antec PSU should be able to hold it's on with 20 amps on the +12v channel. C'mon now. I build a nearly identical system with the same power supply for a customer and he has no problems at all. He also has 3 HDs, same motherboard, etc.. the only difference is he has but one optical drive and a 2800+ rather than a 3200+. That power difference should be decimal nature in amps needed.
...oh and the sound card is in PCI slot 3, for those that remember the glory days of sound card IRQ issues that Creative was once notorious for... oh, and I disable the ethernet boot device, etc so my slow startups should not be related. My serial ATA drive is also on connection 1 of the VIA controller.. Promise can kiss my a**.
Soooo.. Show me what a n00b I am, oh great ones. I've built over 100 PCs since 1998 for myself, friends, families, and customers... and I've never seen an issue like this one! I'm no dummy, but please don't assume too much. Other pros on here know full well you can forget the most simple mundane detail in spite of experience! I want to solve this problem. I am on the verge of shelling out for a new motherboard and processor of the 939 pin variety.. and am now wary of MSI's long awaited socket 939 K8 Neo2 board despite it's awesome reviews. MSI has never really given me trouble before.. but I don't really want to spend money to the order of $200+ for that damned Gigabyte board. Gigabyte has always been good to me as well. Save my wallet! PLEASE!!!
Thanks so much everyone, I tried very hard not to leave out any details!

The startup problem might just be a screwy psu. Your antec *should* be able to power your stuff just fine, but maybe it is defective in some strange way.
What is your 3dmark03 score? If it is 3000-4000, (approx perf. level of ati 9600xt), then it is fine.
Check your memory using memtest86+, and try underclocking it to ddr333.
UNplug usb devices, and see if it speeds up boot. Also, I would not recommend bios 1.8 since people seem to have some troubles with it.
Also, try disabling agp fast writes, disabling spread spectrum, and maybe boosting ram voltage a tiny bit.
Try booting without your audigy plugged in, and try booting barebones (nothing but 1 hard drive with os) and see what happens.
I'm no expert, but you might get lucky trying these steps.

  • Experiencing strange performance issues after a hard drive failure - Help!

I bought my mid-2012 i5 Macbook Pro in December of 2012. I realized when shopping for computers that I wanted an SSD installed, but that it would be a lot cheaper if I bought the SSD and installed it rather than customizing it in the Apple Store. So I bought a nice Samsung 128GB SSD (820 or 840 - can't remember which) and did the installation. I went ahead and installed two 4GB sticks of RAM while I was at it. Everything was just dandy: my boot time was just under 9 seconds, and all of my data-heavy apps booted in no-time at all. Then all **** broke loose.
About two weeks ago, I opened my computer and I got the dreaded "? File Folder" notification with a gray screen. I immediately thought hard drive failure. No matter how many times I tried to boot, the computer just would not talk to the SSD anymore. I used Internet Recovery to get into my Disk Utility, and the entire partition was gone. I assumed the worst but wanted to be sure - I bought a hard drive enclosure and hooked the SSD up to an older Macbook, and lo and behold: it worked perfectly. I was not only able to recover data, but I could write data to the drive. Nothing appeared wrong with the drive when I plugged it into the old Macbook, but my newer Macbook still would not recognize it. Even my fiance's Windows 7 PC recognized the drive as "?" (since it was formatted for Mac, but hey - it recognized that it existed!).
I decided to re-install the original HDD that came with the 2012 Macbook Pro (the one I removed in favor of the SSD). I was able to re-install the OS and I can boot up at will, but everything is different. The performance issues are extremely noticeable. I can't have more than two programs running at one time without the spinning wheel of death appearing. My boot time went from 9 seconds to 2 minutes. I know that SSDs increase performance, so there is some slight performance downgrade to be expected since I am using a mechanical drive now -- but these are not normal issues. Sometimes I can't even type a web address into Safari without the wheel appearing. iTunes, and specifically the App Store, take minutes to open - and I have no media is on iTunes.
Here's the thing: I have tried just about anything to fix this problem that Google can pull up. I've verified the HDD, I've booted into Safe Mode, reset RAM and cache, run benchmarks and other performance tests, entered all sorts of weird language into Command Prompt, and studied Activity Monitor - I can't find a single red flag that would indicate anything being wrong. It appears to be a perfectly functioning, updated computer.
I'm thinking a piece of hardware failed that triggered the error with the SSD. I'm not really sure though since all of my performance tests indicate perfectly functioning hardware. I'm a little afraid to take it to the Apple store because I know they'll tell me it's my fault for opening the computer and replacing the hard drive in the first place.
Any ideas? At this point anything to salvage this computer would be helpful.

    Spin Cycle,
were those other computers which were able to recognize your SSD in its external enclosure also Macs? Do you know if your SSD has its most recent firmware revision installed? (If it doesn’t, its installer can be downloaded from the Samsung SSD firmware page for burning onto a bootable DVD.) I haven’t used the 830 myself, so I don’t know what its reputation is with Macs. I have an 840 PRO in my MacBook Pro, which has been trouble-free for me, but my understanding is that the 840 EVO has had trouble with Macs in its earlier firmware revisions — so I’m wondering if the 830 has a known track record with Macs, good or bad.

  • LR 4.1 RC performance issues

I find that the 4.1 rc version is better than 4.0 but still not snappy like 3.6 was.  Here are some things I have noticed that are slow:
    • tagging images with flags, colors, labels, etc. - seems to be a two to three second delay when doing this before they register and show up with the files.  I have write .xmp off.
    • and in regards to writing to xmp off, if I select it,  It seems to want to update my whole catalog (148,000 images) and if I try to quit, it promps me that it has not finished and do I want to quit and if I do it will resume upon restarting.  At that point when I try to quit, it just hangs even if I tell it to quit writing xmp info.  I let it go for a couple hours yesterday and it seems it still didn't finish and caused problems again trying to quit.  I ended up having to force quit.  I never remember this problem in the past and in the past, if you selected write to xmp or not, it used to do it or not do it from that point forward.  Until this is fixed, I have it off and just manually save metadata using Cmd-S.
•When in library mode, moving between images is snappy, however once you go to the develop module, it slows to a snail's pace (3-5 second delay).  I know develop module is not as fast in general for moving between images, but in ver. 3.6 there was only a slight delay (maybe 1 sec.).  Now I'm bouncing back and forth wasting time switching modules, which brings me to my next performance issue:
    * When switching from library to develop, it takes quite a few seconds to respond, then after that it loads the image with the loading... icon/message, and another few seconds are wasted.  That used to be almost instantaneous in 3.6.  Going to develop to library seems fine with only a slight delay.
    • The adjustment brush is faster in 4.1 than 4.0 but not nearly as responsive as in 3.6 which is frustrating and very easy to overdo what you're trying to do by the time the brush catches up.
•Sliders still have a bit of jerkiness to them in develop module.  Also sometimes when I grab a scrubby slider to move it, it highlights the field as if I want to enter a number.  Wish this would not happen.  If I want to enter the number, a single click should do it in the field.  If I grab the scrubby slider, it should just activate the scrubby slider.
    • Keyword suggestions take much longer to generate.  In 3.6 as fast as I'd add keywords, the relevant suggestions would pop up right away.
    • When zooming into 100%, it seems to be reasonably fast to render, but I've noticed sometimes it just shows the blurred semi-rendered version without actually rendering 1:1.  Even unzooming and rezooming doesn't work.  Only solution is to go to another image and then back to the original image and that seems to kick it into gear and re-initialize the rendering engine.
Overall I love the features and new process 2012, I'm just disappointed in the performance.  Especially now that I'm trying to edit a large job.  I really wish the program could be optimized to work as well as 3.6 did and I hope once the final version of 4.1 is released (hopefully soon) we will see an overall performance boost.  I have removed ver 3.6 from my system so that's too much of a hassle to go back and not an option, plus I've gotten used to the new process and like it too much to go back.
From the posts I've read it seems others are experiencing this as well, as well as colleagues I've spoken to.  It seems to be across platforms and regardless of computer specs (as long as someone's using a fairly updated and capable computer)
Thanks for working on a performance boost Adobe and getting ver. 4.1 dialed in and releasing a final version.

    Cannot reproduce on Win7 64Bit (LR4.1RC).

  • Performance Issue with Selection Screen Values

    Hi,
I am facing a performance issue(seems like a performance issue ) in my project.
I have a query with some RKFs and sales area in filters (single value variable which is optional).
Query is by default  restricted by current month.
The Cube on which the query operates has around 400,000 records for a month.
The Cube gets loaded every three hours
When I run the query with no filters I get the output within 10~15 secs.
The issue I am facing is that,  when I enter a sales area in my selection screen the query gets stuck in the data selection step. In fact we are facing the same problem if we use one or two other characteristics in our selection screen
We have aggregates/indexes etc on our cube.
Has any one faced a similar situation?
Does any one have any comments on this ?
Your help will be appreciated. Thanks

    Hi A R,
Goto RSRT--> Give ur query anme --> Execute =Debug
--> No a pop up ill come with many check boxes select "Display Aggregates found" option --> now give ur
selections in variable screen > first it will give the already existing aggregate names> continue> now after displaying all the aggregates it will display the list of objects realted to cube wise> try to copy these objects into notepad> again go with ur drill downs now u'll get the already existing aggregates for this drill down-> it will display the list of objects> copy them to notepad> now sort all the objects related to one cube by deleting duplicate objects in the note pad>goto that Infocube> context>maintain aggregates> create aggregate on the objects u copied into note pad.
now try to execyte the report... it should work properly with out delays for those selections.
    I hope it helps you...
    Regards,
    Ramki.

  • Windows 7 Enterprise login performance issue RODC site

    Hi,
We are deploying windows 7 enterprise to all our computers in our domain and we didn't have any performance issue on any site with Full DC. Now we are facing a problem with our multiple sites with RODC but only with new deployed windows 7 (WinXp is not having
this slow login problem). The problem is very strange. Whatever a user start a session on a desktop or laptop with Windows 7, wireless or cabled, when the user enter his credential and press the "validation arrow" next to the password nothing happen
(well it look like nothing happen). After 5 to 10 minutes at this logon screen, we finally see the logon process start applying domain policy, preparing the desktop etc etc and this take less then 10 seconds but remember, we just wait 5 to 10 minutes until
the computer process the "process my log in" botton. Sometime, the CTRL+ALT+DEL screen come back and when we press them we got nothing, we have to wait for the "logon" to occur before doing anything else with the computer.
I've looked to many way to solve this but for now nothing worked.

    Hi,
Sorry for my dilatory reply. How about using a same user account  to log on XP computer? Will it logon fast?
Have you tried to add a user account into Allowed RODC Password Replication Group for test? This problem probably caused by the password authentication problem In RODC host.
For further investigation, you can try to use Network Manitor at RODC host to capture package of client machine authenticate to a domain controller.
The blog about Understanding "Read Only Domain Controller" authentication
    may be helpful.
After the above steps, We can narrow the cause of this problem.
If problem persists, this problem may caused by Windows 7 Client performance. Generally speaking, the problem like this most probably caused by sercurity application problem. You can try to disable or uninstall security application temportaily for test.
If there is any progress, please feel free let us know.

  • Brand new with performance issues -- programs not responding, system hanging

Just this morning I began migrating from a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop that has been generally reliable for the better part of 3 years (monitor housing is literally falling apart but still works great... check E-Bay later for spare parts! lol)... migrating to a Toshiba Satellite C655D-S5136 laptop running Windows 7 64-bit.  It's literally right out of the box 5 hours ago and I've been reinstalling programs, transferring files, etc.
The problem is that I'm already noticing a lot of performance issues.  The system (and/or programs) seem to get caught often... resulting in frequent "Program not responding" messages (some of which the system manages to bypass)... and a few of the "This program closed unexpectedly" or "This program stopping responding... do you want to check online for a solution or just close the program?" messages.
This is happening on multiple programs... tax prep software TaxAct update dialog hangs after 256 bytes downloaded every time, AVG Anti-Virus was hanging although never gave me a not responding message, Internet Explorer has stopped responding a couple times, Windows Live Mail did often, especially when I was using IMAP (since changed to POP3 and problem seems to have resolved but still).  Even opening the start menu a few seconds after plugging in an external hard drive lagged the system like hell for a full two minutes until it caught up with itself.
This is unacceptable in a brand new machine.  I was getting a few errors like this on my Dell every now and then but I chalked it up to an old machine that had never been wiped and had a failing hard disk.  I understand the computer moving slower, especially as I've been installing a lot, running antivirus, downloading all at once, but no way programs should simply stop responding this often.  I could do twice the activity on my Dell and have no issues.
I've uninstalled several of the preloaded programs... the antivirus, quickbooks, etc.  I've also disabled and/or uninstalled several of the other programs like Toshiba Reeltime and Toshiba Zoom Manager or whatever that was.  Nothing has seemed to help.  And that's not surprising... the speed is great, it's that programs are getting caught so often, sometimes every time or every other time I open up a program.
Is this a Windows 7 thing? (This is first time using Windows 7, coming from Vista).  Is it a Satellite thing?
Anyone have any suggestions?  Is it possible there's just some component that's bad?  Processor, RAM, etc.?
    Thanks... very frustrated!

I may have found a solution. I changed my startup programs and stopped some of the Toshiba software from running at startup. The ones I stopped are listed below. I have used the laptop heavily for two days now and have not had any problems. It actually runs very fast. I hope this will help.
    Toshiba Reel Time
    Toshiba Sleep
    Toshiba PC Health Monitor
    Toshiba WebCamera App.
    Toshiba Power Saver
    Toshiba Message Center
    Toshiba Service Station
    SmartFaceVWatcher
    Toshiba Online Backup
    Toshiba Zooming Utility
    Toshiba eco Utility
    Toshiba App Place
    Message Center
For people that don't know how to change these, here are the instructions.
Click Start > Type msconfig in the search box > open msconfig > click on the startup tab > remove the checkmarks next to the above programs > restart computer.
Doing this may not fix your problems, but it did fix mine.
