Performance issue in tape backup

Friends,
Our tape backup is implemented with help of Veritas Netbackup,for one of our servers,tape backup is taking too much long time. I generated AWR report during the ongoing backup and noticed the below stats:-

Any guidance will be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

The tape drive is likely the constraint.  It cannot write fast enough to handle 4 channels streaming datafiles to it.
I would guess that the datafiles are also going over the network to the media manager.  You need to check the network throughput for that link as well.

  • Severe performance issues in production database

    Hi Experts,
    we have configured RMAN in our production database recently using some 3 party tool COMMVAULT.
    Problem is just 47 GB database taking around 6 hrs of time to complted the bakcup job. Please let me know what could be the reason.
    Further to this issues i found out some of few things, our application vendor commissioned this database server and it seems that they done some changes in TIMEZONE settings.
    when i query against some of few dictionary tables for example dba_schedular_jobs i am getting the following error.
    ORA-01882: timezone region %s not found
    when ever i connect the database , the connection itself is very slow and suffering severe performance issues in my production database.
    You help would be much appreciated.
    Regards,
    Salai

    Hi,
    also let us know if you use asm or local file system for datafiles.
    Your backup strategy will also be helpful:
    Do you make compressed backups?
    Full or incremental?
    To where do you backup the database? To the local filesystem, SAN Volume, Offsite Storage, Tape storage?
    Is there any other jobs running while the RMAN job is running?
    Please post the stats that you have gathered over the time period when the backup is running.
    Thanks.

  • FRA´s datafile directory and tape backups

    Hi again,
    I have tried to find relevant information for my question, but instead of finding answers (again) which may or may not be helpful I hope someone can explain me.
    We are running 10Gr2 databases with FRA´s enabled, currently backupping all using Oracle´s suggested backup to Disk devices.
    Since we have copies of the datafiles in the FRA which takes up quite some (productional) storage space we are asked to stop the Disk backups, and backup things up to the tape device, which underwater is a TSM library.
    How would this affect the occupance of the FRA? Will the datafile directory in the FRA be moved to the "tape" device if we implement (solely) tape backups; or is it only the backupsets and autobackups which would then be moved to tape?
    I have tried several setups for which I wanted to set the datafile, backupset and autobackup directory out of the FRA, but I have not found a (working) way yet to set the datafile directory apart from it.
    Advice or help are greatly appreciated.
    Robin

    Changing the backup location from FRA to an external device will only effect backups (backupsets or image copies of datafiles,controlfiles,spfile,archivelogs). Possible (but not mandatory) components of FRA are archivelogs,backup pieces,controlfiles,online logs,image copies and flashback logs.
    For performance reasons it's better to continue using the FRA as first backup device. Extend your backup strategy by backing the FRA itself to tape in regular intervals.
    'BACKUP RECOVERY AREA' backs up recovery files created in the current and all previous flash recovery area destinations. Recovery files are full and incremental backup sets, control file autobackups, archived logs, and datafile copies. Flashback logs, the current control file, and online redo logs are not backed up.
    The backup must go to a tape device, so RMAN issues an error if no sbt channels are allocated or configured.
    Or use
    'BACKUP RECOVERY FILES'. It backs up all recovery files on disk, whether they are stored in the flash recovery area or another locations on disk. Recovery files include full and incremental backup sets, control file autobackups, archived logs, and datafile copies.

  • Performance issues with Imac intel 2011 27 inch..

    I have an 2011 imac 3,4 GHz Intel Core i7 with 16 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 RAM.
    Since a few months i noticed performance issues with FCPX, where before it would run through video it shows sometimes the color ball. Now the computer is slow in starting up and shutting down also. Ran disk utility but to no avail. I am now considering reinstalling mavericks.
    But I ran etrecheck.
    here are the results, please who can help me? I use this computer to edit and about everything else.

  • Performance issue in DB need help with analysing this ADDM report

    Hi,
    My environment:
    Os: RHEL5U3 / 11.1.0.7 64 bit / R12.1.1 64 bit
    Issue:
    Few days are am facing serious of performance problem in our Production instance. Normally the issue will occur 5 to 10 minutes occasionally per day. At the time of issue we not able to access the EBS application its taking time to load. But backend all the oracle, listener and apps services are up and running. No locks at table and session level. Cpu and memory usage is normal.
    We have monitored using "Enterprise Manager" for this issue and we found the wait session present more in Active session tab. At this time EBS application is not able access its loading too time. After some time the in Active session tab the wait session came normal and when we try to access the EBS application its working fine.
    We try to find the cause of the issue by running addm report. But am not able to understand what its says. Kindly suggests me

  • Major performance Issues after upgrading to 10.9.2

    Hi,
    I have been having major performance issues almost preventing me from using the computer at times.  I suspect I don't have enough memory to run Maverick as the computer was great before I upgraded.
    If any experts or people with ideas for me to speed up the computer, please respond.  If you think the only way to improve performance is add memory or revert back to a previous version of OSX that I have a backup for, let me know.
    Here is the info on my system, thank you in advance!!

  • BW  Performance issue

    Hi,
          We have done reorge for four tablespaces PSAPBTABI, PSAPBTABD, PSAPODSD, PSAPODSI  in our BW System 7.0. And we have created new tablespaces for above our tablespaces like PSAPODSINEW for all the above tablespaces and made the old tablespaces as offline. After doing this activity we are facing lot of performance problems.
    For e.g while our BW guys are running one report for the portal it is executing but after a long time like after 2+ hours the page goes empty. The report is CL_SQL_RESULT_SET=============CP, not only this report but lot of reports. We have done statistics update for the tables that report uses using BRCONNECT and also rebuild the indexex for all the tables. But still no luck.

    Hi,
    For the BASIS related performance issues :
    1. This is mostly DBA related : Keeping an eye on the DB space to monitor the growth of the database and look at space available and needed to prevent shutting down the BW server.
    2. Making sure that backups don't consume a lot of time to interfere with daily operations.
    3. Doing load balancing
    4. Making sure IDocs are flowing freely.
    5. Making sure that shared drives and servers don't overshoot the capacity.
    6. Patching servers and server instances to improve performance.
    The BW consultants can monitor the the space , etc using tcode DB02. The DBAs have their own tools to monitor these parameters.
    Cheers,
    Kedar

  • Performance issues since upgrade

    I am on a late 2011 MacBook Pro and am having severs performance issues since upgrading to Mavericks. I fear my issues may be related to company installed anti-virus (which I cannot remove), but I was hoping someone could look over my EtreCheck for other potential solutions.
    One really odd issue I am having, which I cannot seem to find good information for on Google, is at least 4-5 times a day my Mac just stops. No beach ball, no anything, for about 1-5 minutes. Then it's fine. Maybe just me grasping at straws, but it seems related to a when webpage loads a bunch of images? I always use Safari btw, but testing other browsers, like Chrome & Firefox, it happens as well.
    I have also removed TotalFinder and have noticed no improvement and still have the above issue.
    Thanks in advance!
    Here is my EtreCheck:

  • BPC 10.0 Input Schedule refresh : investigating performance issues on frontend side

    Hello,
    We are running SAP BPC NW 10.0 SPS8.
    We recieve a lot of complaints regarding performance issues.
    More specifically BPC Input Schedule refresh takes ages (11 minutes actually)
    I am a SAP Basis Administartor with some solid BW experience, but very linited BPC knowledge.
    So raf we have tried the following :
    * BPC Full and light ptmimize of the BPC Cubes.
    * Updating Oracle Statistics
    * Activating ABAP/SQL traces*
    * Checking USJTAT Logs
    Then it rutned out that the perfromance problems werre not caused by the backend SAP BW server (only 9 seconds of bakend  processing are displayed in UJSTAT).
    The overwhelming majority of the processing is spent on the frontend side : on the computer of the user.
    We really would like to know what is happening on BPC Frontend side, but are really lacking any investigative method .....
    other that  checking memory/CPU usage o nthe frontend computer.
    From your experience, is there any tool/method to allow to conduct some investigation on what is going on the frontend side, when a BPC Input Schedule is refreshed ?
    Thank you for your attention.

    Hello Vadim,
    We still need to get confirmation from the external consultants who developed the BPC solution, but as far as I can understand it :
    We do not use use member formulas
    We are indeed talking about EPM (without EPMRetrieveData functions)
    The perfromance  problems occur in DEV and QAS , after a restore of the BPC environment (backup from PRD)
    We already had the problem in the past, but we never knew precisely how to solve it, it is as if there was some missing links between the restored BPC environment from PRD and the DEV/QAS system
    One additional information, we checked the EPM CLient Log , and here are the errors displayed while refreshing the input schedule :
    The thing is that I have no idea what it means ...

  • Oracle 9i reading BLOB performance issues

    Windows XP Pro SP2
    JDK 1.5.0_05
    Oracle 9i
    Oracle Thin Driver for JDK 1.4 v.10.2.0.1.0
    DBCP v.1.2.1
    Spring v1.2.7 (I am using the JDBC template for convenience)
    I have run into serious performance issues reading BLOBs from Oracle using oracle's JDBC thin driver. I am not sure if it a constraint/mis-configuration with oracle or a JDBC problem.
    I am hoping that someone has some experience accessing multi-MB BLOBs under heavy volume.
    We are considering using Oracle 8 or 9 as a document repository. It will end up storing hundreds of thousands of PDFs that can be as large as 30 MBs. We don't have access to Oracle 10.
    TESTS
    I am running tests against Oracle 8 and 9 to simulate single and multi-threaded document access. Out goal is to get a sense of KBps throughput and BLOB data access contention.
    DATA
    There is a single test table with 100 rows. Each row has a PK id and a BLOB field. The blobs range in size from a few dozen KB to 12MB. They represent a valid sample of production data. The total data size is approx. 121 MBs.
    Single Threaded Test
    The test selects a single blob object at a time and then reads the contents of the blob's binary input stream in 2 KB chunks. At the end of the test, it will have accessed all 100 blobs and streamed all 121 MBs. The test harness is JUnit.
    8i Results: On 8i it starts and terminates successfully on a steady and reliable basis. The throughput hovers around 4.8 MBps.
    9i Results: Similar reliability to 8i. The throughput is about 30% better.
    Multi-Threaded Test
    The multi-threaded test uses the same "blob reader" functionality used in the single threaded test. However, it spawns 8 threads each running a separate "blob reader".
    8i Results: The tests successfully complete on a reliable basis. The aggregate throughput of all 8 threads is a bit more than 4.8 MBps.
    9i Results: Erratic. The tests were highly erratic on 9i. Threads would intermittently lock when accessing a BLOB's output stream. Sometimes they lock accessing data from the same row, othertimes it is distinct rows. The number and the timing of the thread "locks" is indeterminate. When the test completed successfully the aggregate throughput of the 8 threads was approx. 5.4 MBps.
    I would be more than happy to post code or the data model if that would help.
    Carlos

    Hi Murphy16,
    Try investigate where are the principal issues in your RAC system.
    Check:
    * Expensive SQL's;
    * Sorts in disks;
    * Wait Events;
    * Interconnect hardware issues;
    * Applications doing unnecessary manual LOCKs (SQL);
    * If SGA is adequatly sized (take care to not use of SWAP space "DISK");
    * Backup's and unnecessary jobs running at business time (Realocate this jobs and backups to night window or a less intensive work hour at database);
    * Rebuild indexes and identify tables that must be reorganized (fragmentation);
    * Verify another software consuming resources on your server;
    Please give us more info about your environment. The steps above are general, but you can use to guide u in basic performance issues.

    backing up autobackup controlfiles to legato is possible. All you have to do is to configure autobackup accordingly. By default autobackup controlfiles will get written to disk.
    However i strongly recommend to use a rman backup catalog. This will save you a lot of time consuming trouble if you need to restore your database.
    The rman catalog database itself does not need any license and is rather small (5 GB on disk, 512 MB memory).
    Restoring the control file will be something like this:
    set controlfile autobackup format for device type sbt to '%F';
    restore controlfile from autobackup;

  • Restore from Tape Backup

    Hi All,
    Oracle Ver. 10.2.0.4 on Sun-Solaris 9.
    Need to do a restore and recover on the DR site using the tape backups from production site.
    The path and file names are same in both sites.
    In the DR site only the Oracle server software is installed. There are no oracle files/database.
    Will a incomplete recovery solve the issue?
    What will be the steps in RMAN.?

    Hi,
    If you know the location of the controlfile autobackup than
    restore the spfile and controlfile first.
    Than mount the controlfile and restore and recover the database to a PIT, sequence or SCN.
    You can find a lot of examples of commands in this forum.
    Regards,
    Tycho

  • Spfile restore from RMAN Tape backup to different server

    Hi All,
    First of all let me thank you to the forum from which I keep updating my knowledge on oracle.
    I am having issues when trying to restore spfile from controlfile autobackup to different server. Problem and other details are below:
    Target version : 10.2.0.2
    Netbackup : 6.5.6
    Taken the tape backup through rman on server ABC and trying to restore the spfile from controlfile autobackup to server XYZ. Tape backup has been taken today morning and trying restore now.
    Both servers ABC and XYX have been added (as clients) to netbackup policy.
    Below is the syntax I used for restoring spfile and getting error as mentioned.
    RMAN> run {
    2> set controlfile autobackup format for device type 'SBT_TAPE' to '%F';
    3> allocate channel ch00 device type 'sbt_tape'
    4> parms='ENV=(NB_ORA_SERV=Mediaserver,NB_ORA_CLIENT=XYZ)';
    5> restore spfile to pfile '/oracle/product/10g/dbs/inittest.ora' from
    6> autobackup maxseq 5 maxdays 3;
    7> }
    executing command: SET CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP FORMAT
    allocated channel: ch00
    channel ch00: sid=36 devtype=SBT_TAPE
    channel ch00: Veritas NetBackup for Oracle - Release 6.5 (2010042405)
    Starting restore at 03-AUG-2011

    Not sure where I am doing wrong. The same can be restored onto same host (I.E ABC) without any issues .
    Request your help and guidance.
    Thanks,
    SSS

    I don't know whether you can restore to a different server. The easier way should be
    RMAN> restore spfile to pfile 'YOUR_PFILE_NAME' from autobackup;
    then copy this to the new host.
    Check this link
    restore spfile to another host
    Hope this helps
