Performance issue with database server
Hello,
We have installed ECC 6.0 on HP UX 11.23 OS with Oracle as database.
We have cluster environment in our production severs.
One server as DB-CI installed and other as Dialogue Instance installed.
After installation, the dialogue instance (Application server))works fine but if we login into DB server and execute any t-code It takes too much time or just stuck.
and after that if I go to application and execute that t-code it works fine and after that if I go to database and execute that t-code now even in DB it works fine.
Kindly guide me.
Thanks,
Chandresh Pranami.
Hi Chandresh,
Check below things for your Database server.
SM50 - Workprocess status busy or wait
ST04 - Data buffer hit ratio
SM37 - Any background job running there.
Normally even if you are login through a diffrent app server the database side execution will happen in db server only.Application server will do the execution but the data read and to be updated will happen in db server only. When the sql request will go to db server may select update..types of sql then it willalways will be processed by db server.
So there will be lot of load already thereIg you execute your work here it will take more time because more load for the application will be there.

Ashok

Performance issue with report server
we have recently migrated our application from c/s 6i to 10g web (Oracle AS rel 10.1.2). when we are running one balsheet report it was taking about 16-17min to complete running in web. We are using rwservlet to run this report. to my annoyance the same report when run in c/s environment (with same parameters) takes hardly 1min to complete running. The report has 10 pages in all. what we have observed from em console is that that it formats first 5-6pages of the report in just 150-200secs but later for other pages it is taking lot of time. we have even tried out using jvmoptions but that did not help me either. I request any one of you to suggest me as to what can be done at the application server level so that i can acheive the performance of the c/s version report. I am novice to oracle reports and any help is highly appreciated.
Regards
MuraliWe seem to have fixed the problem of hanging/slow reports by configuring the init.ora file and changing the optimizer_mode to FIRST_ROWS_10. We set the workarea_size_policy to AUTO too and reports sped up significantly, I don't know the exact changes because our DBA's did them but I think the optimizer was the key change.

Performance issues with Oracle EE 9.2.0.4 and RedHat 2.1
Hello,
I am having some serious performance issues with Oracle Enterprise Edition 9.2.0.4 and RedHat Linux 2.1. The processor goes berserk at 100% for long (some 5 min.) periods of time, and all the ram memory gets used.
Some environment characteristics:
Machine: Intel Pentium IV 2.0GHz with 1GB of RAM.
OS: RedHat Linux 2.1 Enterprise.
Oracle: Oracle Enterprise Edition 9.2.0.4
Application: We have a small web-application with 10 users (for now) and very basic queries (all in stored procedures). Also we use the latest version of ODP.NET with default connection settings (some low pooling, etc).
Does anyone know what could be going on?
Is anybody else having this similar behavior?
We change from SQL-Server so we are not the world expert on the matter. But we want a reliable system nonetheless.
Please help us out, gives some tips, tricks, or guides
Thanks to all,
FrankThank you very much and sorry I couldnt write sooner. It seems that the administrator doesnt see the kswap going on so much, so I dont really know what is going on.
We are looking at some queries and some indexing but this is nuts, if I had some poor queries, which we dont really, the server would show pick right?
But he goes crazy and has two oracle processes taking all the resources. There seems to be little swapping going on.
Son now what? They are all ready talking about MS-SQL please help me out here, this is crazy!!!
We have, may be the most powerful combinations here. What is oracle doing?
We even kill the Working Process of the IIS and have no one do anything with the database and still dose two processes going on.
Can some one help me?
Thanks,

Performance concern with directory server implementation
performance concern with directory server implementation
I first posted this at metalink forum, and was suggested to post it here instead.
Hi,
I'd like to get any feedback regarding performance of oracle directory server implementation. Below is what I copy&patested from 9i Net Services Administrator's Guide, I found no 'directory server vendor documentation', so anything regarding this is welcome too.
Performance
Connect identifiers are stored in a directory server for all clients to access.
Depending on the number of clients, there can be a significant load on a directory
server.
During a connect identifier lookup, a name is searched under a specific Oracle
Context. Because of the scope of the lookup, you probably want users to experience
relatively quick performance so that the database connect time is not affected. Users
may begin to notice slow connect times if lookups takes more than one second.
You can resolve performance problems changing the network topology or
implementing replication.

resolving performance issues
Thanks.

Performance issue with transaction MC50
I am not sure where to post this question. If I need to post it in another forum, please let me know.
We are having performance issues with transaction MC50. After reviewing SAP Note 457615 we created an index on mseg with the following fields: MANDT, MJAHR, MATNR, WERKS and SOBKZ.
When running an explain on the sql statement, the database is using a different index. This index has the following fields MANDT, MATNR, WERKS, LGORT, BWART and SOBKZ.
The sql statement is ( sql trace from ST05):
SELECT * from mseg WHERE "MANDT" = '400' AND "MJAHR" BETWEEN 2009 AND 2009 AND "MATNR" = '000000000054001121' AND "WERKS" = 'SAT' AND "SOBKZ" IN ( 'K' , 'V' , 'W' , 'O' , ' ' )
Is there any way to force the database to use the newly created index.
Thanks....Tommy

Edited by: Tommy Knight on Dec 8, 2009 3:08 PMHello Tommy,
at first your database release and patchset is missing.
If you are using Oracle 10g, the advice of Peter is useless, because of statistics are automatically collected by a CREATE INDEX.
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14200/statements_5010.htm#i2075657
COMPUTE STATISTICS
In earlier releases, you could use this clause to start or stop the collection of statistics on an index. This clause has been deprecated. Oracle Database now automatically collects statistics during index creation and rebuild. This clause is supported for backward compatibility and will not cause errors.
The other thing is - are you really sure that this SQL statements was executed with literals?
I know that on MSEG (with histograms) it is recommended sometimes, but i just want to be sure.
If you want us to help you - we need much more information .. please check sapnote #1257075 and upload the information to a webhosting platform, so that we can take a look at it.

Performance issues with pipelined table functions
I am testing pipelined table functions to be able to re-use the <font face="courier">base_query</font> function. Contrary to my understanding, the <font face="courier">with_pipeline</font> procedure runs 6 time slower than the legacy <font face="courier">no_pipeline</font> procedure. Am I missing something? Edit: The underlying query returns 500,000 rows in about 3 minutes. So there are are no performance issues with the query itself.

Performance issues with the Tuxedo MQ Adapter
We are experimenting some performance issues with the MQ Adapter. For example, we are seeing that the MQ Adapter takes from 10 to 100 ms in reading a single message from the queue and sending to the Tuxedo service. The Tuxedo service takes 80 ms in its execution so there is a considerable waste of time in the MQ adapter that we cannot explain.
Also, we have looked a lot of rollback transactions on the MQ adapter, for example we got 980 rollback transactions for 15736 transactions sent and only the MQ adapter is involved in the rollback. However, the operations are executed properly. The error we got is
135027.122.hqtux101!MQI_QMTESX01.7636.1.0: gtrid x0 x4ec1491f x25b59: LIBTUX_CAT:376: ERROR: tpabort: xa_rollback returned XA_RBROLLBACK.
I am looking for information at Oracle site, but I have not found nothing. Could you or someone from your team help me?Hi Todd,
We have 6 MQI adapters reading from 5 different queues, but in this case we are writing in only one queue.
Someone from Oracle told us that the XA_RBROLLBACK occurs because we have 6 MQ adapters that are reading from the same queues and when one adapter finds a message and try to get that message, it can occurs that other MQ Adapter gets it before. In this case, the MQ adapter rollbacks the transaction. Even when we got some XA_RBROLLBACK errors, we don´t lose message. Also, I read something about that when XA sends a xa_end call to MQ adapter, it actually does the rollback, so when the MQ adapter receives the xa_rollback call, it answers with XA_RBROLLBACK. Is that true?
However, I am more worried about the performance. We are putting a request message in a MQ queue and waiting for the reply. In some cases, it takes 150ms and in other cases it takes much more longer (more than 400ms). The average is 300ms. MQ adapter calls a service (txgralms0) which lasts 110ms in average.
This is our configuration:

Performance issues with data warehouse loads
We have performance issues with our data warehouse load ETL process. I have run
analyze and dbms_stats and checked database environment. What other things can I do to optimize performance? I cannot use statspack since we are running Oracle 8i. Thanks
ScottHi,
you should analyze the db after you have loaded the tables.
Do you use sequences to generate PKs? Do you have a lot of indexex and/or triggers on the tables?
If yes:
make sure your sequence caches (alter sequence s cache 10000)
Drop all unneeded indexes while loading and disable trigger if possible.
How big is your Redo Log Buffer? When loading a large amount of data it may be an option to enlarge this buffer.
Do you have more then one DBWR Process? Writing parallel can speed up things when a checkpoint is needed.
Is it possible using a direct load? Or do you already direct load?

Memory leak issue with link server between SQL Server 2012 and Oracle
Hi,
We are trying to use the linked server feature with SQL Server 2012 to connect SQL server and Oracle database. We are concerned about the existing memory leak issue. For more context please refer to the link.
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/psssql/archive/2009/09/22/if-you-use-linked-server-queries-you-need-to-read-this.aspx
The above link talks about the issues with SQL Server versions 2005 and 2008, not sure if this is still the case in 2012. I could not find any article that talks about if this issue was fixed by Microsoft in later version.
We know that SQL Server process crashes because of the third-party linked server provider which is loaded inside SQL Server process. If the third-party linked server provider is enabled together with the
Allow inprocess option, the SQL Server process crashes when this third-party linked server experiences internal problems.
We wanted to know if this fixed in SQL Server 2012 ?So your question is more of a information type or are you really facing OOM issue.
There can be two things for OOM
1. There is bug in SQL Server which is causing the issue which might be fixed in 2012
2. The Linked server provider used to connect to Oracle is not upto date and some patch is missing or more recent version is to be used. Did you made sure that you are using latest version.
What is Oracle version you are trying to connect(9i,10g, R2...)

Performance issue with MSEG table
Hi all,
I need to fetch materials(MATNR) based on the service order number (AUFNR) in the selection screen, but there is performance isssue with this , how to over come this issue .
Regards ,
AmitHi,
There could be various reasons for performance issue with MSEG.
1) database statistics of tables and indexes are not upto date.
because of this wrong index is choosen during the execution.
2) Improper indexes, because there is no indexes with the fields mentioned in the WHERE clause of the statement. Because of this reason, CBO would have choosen wrong index and did a range scan.
3) Optimizer bug in oracle.
4) Size of table is very huge, archive.
Better switch on ST05 trace before you run this statements, so it will give more detailed information, where exactly time being spent during the execution.
Hope this helps

Performance issue with form after 10g upgrade
Hi Team,
Last week we have upgraded our systems to 10g database.
Ever since we did an upgrade there is a huge performance issues with the custom forms and this is causing a major setback to our business. Before the upgrade the forms were running with our any performance issues.
Can anyone please help me in finding out the reason behind the performance issue(May be a tar or performance tuning).
Many Thanks in Advance.
Regards
KumarLike Jan said,
You must supply more information so we can help you, like where the degradation happens?, in processing? in navigation? in forms loading?? where?
You may also do a little test. Create a one button form, just a canvas and a button, you can include a message in when-button-pressed trigger.
run it and see what happens.

BPC 7 performance issue with Microsoft 2003 vs Microsoft 2007
Hi All,
Needs some help with our performance issues with BPC 7 on Microsoft 2007. We have noticed a significant difference between the two versions. When running the same report on BPC 7 MS 2003 it takes roughly around 5-6 min. When running the same report in BPC 7 MS 2007 the report takes roughly 15-20 min. We've tried numerous things to figure out what can be causing this but does anyone have the same issue or shed some light as to what i can do to eliminate this problem?
Thanks,
ElmerHi,
Did you install the following component on your application server (which is a prerequisite for running Excel 2007)? This note is part of the installation guide:
In order for the software to function correctly in Excel 2007, you must install the Microsoft Office 2007 system driver Data Connectivity Components, which you can get from the Microsoft web site. The components must be installed on the Application server. We recommend that you install all of the latest Microsoft Windows hotfixes prior to installing the Administration client. For information about which hotfixes to install, see http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=7554F536-8C28-4598-9B72-EF94E038C891&DisplayLang=en.
Hope this will help.

Hi,
I am having serious performance issue due to BSEG table .I am having a change request in which I have to solve the performance issue with regard to BSEG. The situation was that previously they had used select * on both BKPF and BSEG. I removed the select * and selected only those fields which are required as shown below. I also tried using cursors. But the problem is happening in the TEST server where BSEG is having more than 1 crore entries. I have gone through some threads but still not able to understand how to solve this problem. Please help

AND BELNR = T_bkpf_p-belnr
AND GJAHR = T_bkpf_p-gjahr
AND HKONT = SKB1-SAKNR.Hi Kunal,
Here is my take on your issue.
In your select statement on BKPF you are selecting every BKPF record for a specified company code and blank document status that was created before a specified date. If your company has implemented SAP 10 years ago, and your user enters todays date and leaves the company code field blank you will effectively be retrieving almost all the records from BKPF (excluding the ones created today or those with non-blank document status). This would effectively be a huge amount of data. After that you are looking for the corresponding BSEG records for all the records that you have selected in BKPF.
My question to you is why do you need to look at all the records before a given date? Why not ask the user to enter a smaller date range and make the document date and the company code a mandatory entry? You do not have to look at 10 years worth of data especially if you are running this online (as opposed to in the background).
Your BSEG select looks correct. There is very little that you can do except for adding BUZEI to the field list. If you use for all entries and do not include the entire primary key you could lose data.

Performance Issue with SXMB_MONI
Hi All,
I have a typical performance issue with SXMB_MONI, when I trigger this T.code it is taking around 20-24 hrs to execute.
Here I have found some tables which actually stores these processed xml messages,
SXMSPFADDRESS
SXMSPFRAWH
RSXMB_REMOTE_SERVICE
SXMSPFAGG
SXMSCONFVL
SXMSPMAST
SXMSPEMAS, SXMSPERROR, SXMSPMAST & SXMSPVERS.
SXMSPMAST, SXMSPMAST2, SXMSCLUR, SXMSCLUR2,
SXMSCLUP, SMXSLUP2, SXMSPFRAWH,
Here I want to increase the performance of sxmb_moni, firstly I want to know from which tables does the sxmb_moni fetches data and more over is it a single table or multiple table.
And please suggest any technique which can decrease the latency time in executing sxmb_moni.
Regards,
Vijay NHi,
Periodically you need to archive the XI messages, that allows you to maintain sufficient performance level.
Create archive jobs in SXMB_ADM to archive data which is 15 days old from XI related growing tables like SXMSCLUR, SXMSPEMAS, SXMSPHIST, SXMSPMAST, SXMSPVERS, SXMSPFRAW ,SWWWIHEAD. This archive job created archive files at the OS Level
For XI tables refer
/people/gourav.khare2/blog/2007/12/12/interesting-abap-tables-in-xi-150-part-i
SXMSPMAST, SXMSCLUP, SXMSPCLUR
the last two are cluster tables
and you won't get XML messages directly from them
have a look inside them
The classes that reads this information in SXMB_MONI are abap classes,
(can be seen at SE24) it is quite difficult to use them,
you might debug SXMB_MONI or use SE30 and see all the classes
that have been used.
You can use value mapping if you are not looking at picking up values from application system. It is just like SM30 transcation. You can get the info under SAP XI->Design and Configuration->Configuration->Value Mapping.

Is there a recommended limit on the number of custom sections and the cells per table so that there are no performance issues with the UI?
Thanks Kelly,
The answers would be the following:
1200 cells per custom section (NEW COUNT), and up to 30 custom sections per spec.
Assuming all will be populated, and this would apply to all final material specs in the system which could be ~25% of all material specs.
The cells will be numeric, free text, drop downs, and some calculated numeric.
Are we reaching the limits for UI performance?
Thanks
