Performance issues post SAN & server Migration

Hello everyone,
We have recently migrated our SAN  from Emc san ( FC with 4gbe) to dell san (Iscsi with 1gbe) ..2 ports on the the dell san have been teamed up as one ...Also we migrated our Sap app & ibm db2 9.1 db from ibm p5 to p7 server ...Since then Many short dumps have  appeared with the msg "time_out" & the no. of swaps for program buffer went upto 60,000 /day . Although the hit ratio was still 99%...then I increased the buffer size after which the swaps were reduced to 10,000/day but the time_out still occurs specailly for some Z transactions & the overall performance has degraded as well......Any suggestions or help would be aappreciated.
Thanks & regards,

  • Issues with JMS Server migration

    Hi All,
    I have issue with JMS server migration.
    I have configured clustred environment with 2 Managed server (MS1 & MS2) and with one JMS Server which is running on MS1 and configured for auto migration, when I start both my managed server once and access the application very functionality works fine and when I stop the MS1 the JMS server successfully geting migrated to MS2 and in this scenarion also my application works as expected and when I restart the MS1 and access the application all the functionalities related to MDBs are executed twice.
    However once we restart the MS1 we observe that in the monitor tab of MDB the connection status for both managed servers it show as connected.
    As a result there is a redundancy when the MDB is executed
    I am using Weblogic Server 10.3.0 & normal topics in the MDBs.
    Please let me know is this a bug or am I missing any configuration.

    Hi Suresh,
    There is a "Bug-10007947" in WLS 10.3.0 version which dose not displays the values properly on admin-console once the migration has taken place, however I am assuming that bug may fix your issue so try that out in your test environment. If that dose not work try out the below suggestions.
    Suggestion:
    - Try the same test on different versions of WLS lower as well as on higher versions compared to WLS 10.3.0 (i.e WLS 9.2.X and WLS 10.3.x) and check what are the result.
    - If in any other version your test runes properly, then you can create a simple test case and open a service request with Oracle asking for creating a BUG and let them do their job.
    Hope above information helped you.

  • BAM Cluster setup - issue with whole server migration configuration

    HI,
    We are working on a SOA , BAM , BPM Cluster setup on OEL VMs
    With Admin server running on Host1 and Soa_server1, BAM_server1 , Host2 - Soa_server2 , Bam_server2.
    We were successfully able to setup clustering for Soa without using the webTier utilities in our environment, Just by adding entries in the /etc/hosts file.
    Followed the document - except for web tier setup
    http://www.namredlek.nl/orasoa/InstallSOASuite11gOnCluster_v1.pdf
    1)     Installed Weblogic 11g.
    2)     Soa 11g.
    3)     Domain creation
    4) Configured Node manager
    5) Soa Clustering completed successfully.
    6) Domain up and running with SOA_Cluster up and running.
    7)     Extended the domain with BAM
    The issue revolves when we are doing teh Migration configurations from the console for BAM and we restart BAM server we get an error -
    Apr 14, 2011 2:30:35 AM weblogic.nodemanager.server.Handler handleStart
    WARNING: Exception while starting server 'bam_server1'
    java.io.IOException: Command '/oracle/Shared_MWHome/user_projects/domains/SOA_Domain/bin/server_migration/wlsifconfig.sh -addif eth0 192.168.1.6 255.255.255.0 ' returned an unsuccessful exit code '1'. Check NM logs for script output.
    and Bam server goes to Failed Not Restartable state.

    The error is clearly out there
    java.io.IOException: Command '/oracle/Shared_MWHome/user_projects/domains/SOA_Domain/bin/server_migration/wlsifconfig.sh -addif eth0 192.168.1.6 255.255.255.0 ' returned an unsuccessful exit code '1'. Check NM logs for script output.
    This error occurs due to a failure in adding the virtual IP of BAM server to the network interface you have specified in nodemanager.properties.
    You need to check whether you have specified the correct interface and subnet mask in node manager.properties as below :
    The fourth step is to edit the Node Manager's properties file. This file is called nodemanager.properties
    and is located in the ORACLE_BASE/product/osbmw/wlserver_10.3/common/nodemanager directory.
    For server migration to work properly, you need to add the properties listed below:
    Interface=eth0
    NetMask=255.255.255.0
    UseMACBroadcast=true
    · Interface
    This property specifies the interface name for the floating IP (for example, eth0).
    · NetMask
    This property specifies the net mask for the interface for the floating IP. The net mask should the
    same as the net mask on the interface; 255.255.255.0 is used as an example in this document.
    · UseMACBroadcast
    This property specifies whether or not to use a node's MAC address when sending ARP packets,
    that is, whether or not to use the -b flag in the arping command.

  • Performance issue with report server

    we have recently migrated our application from c/s 6i to 10g web (Oracle AS rel 10.1.2). when we are running one balsheet report it was taking about 16-17min to complete running in web. We are using rwservlet to run this report. to my annoyance the same report when run in c/s environment (with same parameters) takes hardly 1min to complete running. The report has 10 pages in all. what we have observed from em console is that that it formats first 5-6pages of the report in just 150-200secs but later for other pages it is taking lot of time. we have even tried out using jvmoptions but that did not help me either. I request any one of you to suggest me as to what can be done at the application server level so that i can acheive the performance of the c/s version report. I am novice to oracle reports and any help is highly appreciated.
    Regards
    Murali

    We seem to have fixed the problem of hanging/slow reports by configuring the init.ora file and changing the optimizer_mode to FIRST_ROWS_10. We set the workarea_size_policy to AUTO too and reports sped up significantly, I don't know the exact changes because our DBA's did them but I think the optimizer was the key change.

  • How to solve the report generating performance issue in BI server

    ->I HAVE USED ONLY ONE PIVOT IN MY REPORT QUERY AND THE REPORT QUERY IS FULLY DEPEND ON ONE FACT TABLE
    ->IN THE REPORT I AM SHOWING DATA BY MORE THAN 150 COLUMNS.
    ->I HAVE USED REPORT FUNCTIONS FOR 3 FIELDS IN THE REPORT.ALL THREE REPORT FUNCTIONS JUST ADD TWO COLUMN FIELD AND MAKE IT IN TO ONE COLUMN FILED
    ->REPORT QUERY INDIVIDUALLY RUNNING BY 2.40 SECONDS.WHEN I USED THAT TO GENERATE A REPORT IT TAKES TO RUN MORE THAN 8 MINS.WHY THIS DELAY?WILL YOU EXPLAIN
    Edited by: 873091 on Jul 18, 2011 3:50 AM

    Hello Dude,
    So from your post I understand that there is a report that basically takes 8 minutes to retrieve the data, but when you get the logical sql from the cache, and run it against the database, it only takes less than 20 seconds to retrieve the same data?
    This should never happen. There might be a delay of more 20-40 seconds more than the time taken against the database to load the page elements etc. Is this happening for only this particular report or all reports ? Are you running the query against the same instance's database or a different one?
    Try to re-boot all the BI services and run the report again, if the issue still exists, enable caching and try.
    Assign points if helpful.
    Thanks,
    -Amith.

  • Issue in SQL-server migration to new domain

    Hello,
    I have a scenario, where i need to migrate SQL 2005 servers db's ( around 30, small ones) to new server in a new domain. Destinationserver is 2012 R2, running SQL2014
    Domains have trust between them, and users have already been migrated to new domain. Users are using the databases with NT authing from the new domain (new logins & users have been created to old sql-server).
    I have backed up db's from old server and restored them in new server. After that, i restored logins with following article's script:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918992
    I cleaned from the login script logins that are not in use, change the domainname to new in CREATE LOGIN phase (for the users who did not have already login from new domain) and the script ran without errors.
    User Mappings are like they should be on logins, however, the user & schema names are indicating to old domain. If i try to change them, i receive error about SID mismatch. This affects also users, who have already had new logins for new domain, their
    usernames on mappings are also changed to old domain's username. What is causing this?

    Hi,
    Could you try the following to migrate the logins and check the result?
    1. You may drop all the windows login. Modify the script generated by sp_help_revlogin step and replace create login
    to drop login.
    2. Use the script generated by sp_help_revlogin step to create
    Logins. Modify login name to accommodate new domain name.
    3. Grant server level roles using the output from:
    Generate Server level role related info :
    SELECT 'EXEC sp_addsrvrolemember ''' +
    p.name + ''' , ''' + r.name + ''';'
    FROM
    sys.server_principals r
    INNER JOIN sys.server_role_members m ON r.principal_id = m.role_principal_id
    INNER JOIN sys.server_principals p ON
    p.principal_id = m.member_principal_id
    WHERE
    r.type ='R'
    Sample Output :-
    EXEC sp_addsrvrolemember 'sa' , 'sysadmin';
    4. Map the SIDS using below command for all DB by using ALTER USER. For example:
    ALTER USER [DomainA\UserA] with login = [DomainB\UserA]

  • Performance issue with database server

    Hello,
    We have installed ECC 6.0 on HP UX 11.23 OS with Oracle as database.
    We have cluster environment in our production severs.
    One server as DB-CI installed and other as Dialogue Instance installed.
    After installation, the dialogue instance (Application server))works fine but if we login into DB server and execute any t-code It takes too much time or just stuck.
    and after that if I go to application and execute that t-code it works fine and after that if I go to database and execute that t-code now even in DB it works fine.
    Kindly guide me.
    Thanks,
    Chandresh Pranami.

    Hi Chandresh,
    Check below things for your Database server.
    SM50 - Workprocess status busy or wait
    ST04 - Data buffer hit ratio
    SM37 - Any background job running there.
    Normally even if you are login through a diffrent app server the database side execution will happen in db server only.Application server will do the execution but the data read and to be updated will happen in db server only.When the sql request will go to db server may select update..types of sql then it willalways will be processed by db server.
    So there will be lot of load already thereIg you execute your work here it will take more time because more load for the application will be there.

  • Performance Issues with 10.6.7 and External USB Drives

    I've had a few performance issues come up with the latest 10.6.7 that seem to be related to external USB drives. I have a 2TB USB drive tha I have my iMovie content on this drive and after 10.6.7 update, iMovie is almost unusable. Finder even seems slow when browsing files on this drive as well. It seems like any access to the drive is delayed in all applications. Before the update, the performance was acceptable, but now it almost unusable. Most of the files on this drive are large dv files.
    Anyone else experience this?

  • SQLs erver migration performance issue

    We are performing migration from oracle to MSSQL server 2005 (Windows 2003/SAP 4.6D).Our target system configuration is like below:
    ->OS - Windows 2003 x64
    ->DB - MSSQL server 2005 SP4
    ->SAP - 4.6 D kernel
    ->CPU - 4 processors (2.67ghz each)
    ->RAM - 16 GB
    ->source system DB size - around 1 TB and package splitting was implemented.
    While importing the export dump that came from source system, we are facing load performance issue's.
    1) We have started 10 parallel processes and after import is started, CPU is getting 95% to 99% utilized and when we check SQL server studio-> Activity monitor we  found below information:
    -There were around 20 processes are in status sleeping
    -Only one or two system processes are running with commands - INSERT,SELECT INTO commands ( column)
    -At any point of time only two processes are running and CPU utilization is hitting high.
    -Import is very slow and its taking 35 hours to complete
    We have followed few SAP notes(1054852,1241751 e.tc..) and below are the settings for SQL server:
    -Minimum server memory - 5 GB
    - Maximum server memory - 5 GB
    - index creation memory - 0
    - Maximum memory per query - 1024 kb
    - Maximum degree of parellelism - 1
    - Parallellism locks - 0
    - Cost threshold of parellism - 5
    - Enabled trace flags - 610,620,1117,1211,3917
    - Windows environment variable BCP_BATCH_SIZE = 10000
    - SQL log file size - 100 GB
    - tempdb size - 20 GB
    2) When we tried another test import after tuning parameters (Maximum degree of parellelism to 3) and increasing r3load parallel processes to 20, we found  of inserts
    are overflowing in process list and blocking other waiting processes and putting them in suspended mode.CPU utilization is at 80%
    Are there any SQL server parameters need to be tuned to fix this import load time issue in both scenarios? Are there any  best practises for migrating to SQL server?
    Thanks..

    > 1) We have started 10 parallel processes and after import is started, CPU is getting 95% to 99% utilized and when we check SQL server studio-> Activity monitor we  found below information:
    What processes is using the CPU? The SQL Server itself or others? (see task manager)
    > -Minimum server memory - 5 GB
    > - Maximum server memory - 5 GB
    For the time of the migration itself I'd give the database more memory (10 GB or more) and reconfigure later when the import is done.
    What parameters do you use for the R3load? I'd recommend
    -loadprocedure fast -merge_bck -c 10000
    and also set
    BCP_LOB=1 in the environment.

  • Server Migration gone bad - several issues - help.

    I migrated my Snow Leopard Server to Lion Server and am so frustrated right now.  I've been reading posts on the issues below, but have yet to find a solution that works.  I could use some help on:
    - moving user and groups.  I made an LDAP archive of the old server, but don't know how to bring in the users and groups.
    - Before doing anything I need the Lion server to be an open directory master, but I keep getting this error "The hostname does not resolve to any configured address.  Please ensure your hostname and network configuration."  WHAT WOULD BE CORRECT?
    - I went into terminal (per message boards) and did the sudo changeip -checkhostname which returned my server's correct internal LAN ip address and current hostname, but it also said "The DNS hostname is not available, please repair DNS and re-run this tool."
    - I've tried the new Server.app and Server admin tool and can't seem to make any progress on this.
    I need some guidance on what's wrong, what the correct settings should be, and how to move forward.  The message boards are good, but many leave out very important information like what things should look like.  I did the migration process according to the Lion server migration manual, but even that leaves out pertinent information.
    Thanks for any advice.
    MacMini Server 10.7.1

    Yep, did all that already before the post.  I get to a screen where it has Directory Administrator for the name, diradmin for account name, and I put in the password I used to set this machine up and I still get the message about The hostname does not resolve to any configured address.  Please ensure your hostname and network configuration."
    I don't understand why I should change the host name.  It has the same host name as the previous server which is what I want to keep.
    Also, in reading the migration manual, my understanding is that the only way to import users and groups while maintining the passwords and such is to do an LDAP archive, which I did.  When I try to use server admin on my Lion server and use the archive feature to restore from my LDAP backup, I can't because it will only work for Open Directory masters.  I am trying to make my Lion Server an OD master, but can't get anywhere.
    The server migration is the worst I've ever seen in setting up a Mac.  I just don't know where to go from here.  It seems I can't get the OD master to work until I get the hostname resolved but I don't know what that means - resolved to what?  It's exactly as I want it - the same host name as my previous server (which is not on the LAN anymore by the way so it can't interfere with this new server).

    On googling this seems to be an issue with java file handling on windows servers and I couldn't find a solution yet. Any recommendation or pointer is appreciated

    Hi shubhu,
    I just analyzed your partial Thread Dump data, the problem is that the ajax4jsf framework ResponseWriterContentHandler triggers internally a new instance of the DocumentBuilderFactory; every time; triggering heavy IO contention because of Class loader / JAR file search operations.
    Too many of these IO operations under heavy load will create excessive contention and severe performance degradation; regardless of the OS you are running your JVM on.
    Please review the link below and see if this is related to your problem.. This is a known issue in JBOSS JIRA when using RichFaces / ajaxJSF.
