Performance meter in weblogic console

All,
Semi new to memory analysis on the server side (distributed garbage
collection and all). I was rather used to doing client application memory
leak analysis. Are there any good starter guides for memory analysis when
doing load testing?
I am currently working on a project where we do severe load testing against
servlets that hit session level EJB and then entity EJB. We see the heap
(Server->monitor->performace) sawtooth slowly up until the server throws out
of memory exceptions and starts to fail. We have already fixed a few
glaring problems with our code, but the sawtooth remains.
What is the garbage collection routine under WebLogic? Does it run
periodically? Does it run during high/low activity? Should it not be
called before any OutOfMemory exception is throw?
If you set the ejb's to keep too many ejb references in the cache, will the
server sanity check this and bump some out of the cache when memory gets
tight? Basically, I'm asking could I shoot myself in the foot in
weblogic-ejb-jar.xml or will the server help me out?
Finally, if you start mydomain as shipped and go to the performance graph it
slowly sawtooths up at a very slow pace. If you let it run over night it
eats up 10 megs or so. Why is this? It looks rather bad, but I can't
assume this is as it looks on the surface.
Sorry for all the questions, but maybe this will start a good thread.

JVM heap usage will grow and shrink throughout the life of the server. Even an
idle WebLogic server is allocating and freeing object instances. Therefore,
when looking for a "leak", make sure that you account for the state of the JVM
garbage collection and compare "apples" to "apples".
I find that it is best to compare the heap usage after full garbage collections
(GC[1]). Try enabling -verbose:gc and comparing each of the full GC results.
Provided that your server is handling a constant and steady load (or is
constantly idle), you should see little change in heap usage after each full
GC. However, if your your server is idle you may need to force GC to run every
hour or so. By default, you need to use nearly all of the allocated heap
before full GC will kick in.

The garbage collector is a function of the JVM, not of WebLogic. Look atthe JVM
documentation for an explanation of garbage collection.Gotcha.
Weblogic, without any application code runs fine. When you add YOURapplication
code, then you might run into problems. Hence it is your code that ischewing
up (and not releasing) the memory. JProbe is good at find this kind ofproblem.
You can also narrow things down - for instance - hit only one servlet andsee
if the memory grows. Or remove references to session beans, and hit theservlet.
I should be more specific. I installed WLS SP2 on Redhat Linux 7.1 and ran
startWeblogic.sh from the default mydomain. I didn't make any
modifications. I ran the performance meter and the memory did grow over
night significantly. This suprised me. Do I attribute this to Linux? Our
production environment is definately Solaris, but I'd like to be able to
diagnose memory leaks on Linux. I don't want this false positive in the
tests. Am I missing something here?
OutOfMemoryExceptions occur when the JVM attempts to allocate more memorythan
is available - even after running garbage collection. The JVMoption -verbose:gc
will also shed some light on GC.
The Java Heap is not the only part of the JVM that requires memory. Inrare cases,
much memory is consumed by classes and methods in memory, heap (not javaheap)
used by native code.

It is not easy. Optimizit and JProbe can help, as can a well-architected
application with classes that support dumping debugging information (to
evaluate object graphs) and serialization (to guage sizes).
Typical leaks are in session objects, static fields, and database driver
usage without proper closing of objects.

  • Error creating new user in Weblogic console using RDBMSAuthentication

    Hi,
    I have tried to configure RDBMSAuthenticator in Weblogic 8. I created related tables in the schema i.e. user_security, etc. But its still not working with my WebApp.
    Can someone please help me to configure my application with this Oracle DBMS authentication provider to login to this application...?
    1. When I am trying to use these userid/password to login to my application its not able to login getting error as:

    I could resolve the issue...The main points that needed to be done were
    1. Keep the 'DefaultAuthentication' to 'Optional/SUFFICIENT' from 'Required'.
    2. Create a 'Sequencer' table, if your jar is using it.

  • Managed server is up in weblogic console but showing down in em console

    I have a weblogic domain.It has two servers,one admin server and a manged server.The managed server is inside a cluster.When I'm starting these two servers,they are starting normally without any error.In weblogic console,it's showing two servers are up,and also the status of all applications are active.The target of em is admin server.But at the same time in em console,it's showing,the managed server and the cluster are down and also,the applications targeted to managed server are also down.
    I have similar domain configuration in another domain.That is working properly.The difference of it with the previous domain is only some applications are different.
    I'm using middleware 11.1.1.5.Memory allocated to managed server is 4096MB.
    I need help regarding this.

  • Log4j not logging messages out to weblogic console for custom automatplugin

    Hi,
    We have a custom automation plugin for the OSM application build 381 in our environment(HP-UX Itanium platform). The plugins are bundled in a single ear application "A.ear" which is a mixed bag of pre-defined automation plugins of type XsltSender, XsltAutomator(both InternalReciever as well ExternalReceiver) as well other custom automators(java). For logging of messages in order to aid debugging of custom automators, we are using a logger "com.xyz.osm.plugin" which is also declared in log4j.xml file that is within omslogging.jar. You must already be aware that the build scripts of assembling, deploying ansd registering plugins also includes omslogging.jar are part of the application ear.
    <category name="com.mtsa.osm.plugin">
    <priority value="debug"/>
    </category>
    Below java code snippet is taken from our custom automation plugin classes indicating how the above logger is being used for printing messages.
    //Declaration
    private static Log log = LogFactory.getLog("com.mtsa.osm.plugin");
    mthod1(){
    log.info("xyz");
    In addition to the above logger, the pre-defined automators XsltSender, XsltReceiver also enable logging from xsl files by making the "log" parameter available. Thus we have lines such as the one below in our xsl files that should print messages to the weblogic console.
    <xsl:variable name="addLog1" select="java:info($log, 'transformSiebelActivationRequest: ***** Starting *****')"/>
    The logger that allows printing of these lines is "com.mslv.oms.automation".
    <category name="com.mslv.oms.automation">
    <priority value="info"/>
    </category>
    These configurations should have ideally allowed one to see messages such as one below getting printed out to weblogic console:
    <16-Mar-2012 8:59:36,931 CDT PM> <INFO> <plugin.XSLTReceiver> <ExecuteThread: '19' for queue: 'oms.automation'> <transformSiebelActivationRequest: ***** Starting *****>
    Unfotunately after having done all the above configuration, we are still unable to see any such log messages in the console apart from those emitting from SOP and from <xsl:message> inserted in java & xsl files respectively.
    I also checked if the log4j sub-system is able to correctly initialize after parsing the log4j.xml. It does and one can confirm it by setting system property log4j.debug=true in setDomainEnv.sh file.
    $$$$$$$$ log4j initialization by application classloader for oms.ear application $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

    Ironically, logging levels for loggers defined in log4j.xml of oms.ear could be dynamically changed from log4jAdmin.jsp page and the results are immediately visible. However for some reason, loggers defined in log4j.xml of custom plugin application were completely getting ignored. I don't see any warnings or erro messages in the logs indicating that log4j configuration failed for custom application failed. We want to refrain using SOP and <xsl:message> but I am afraid we have no option other than filling up our sources files with them.
    Bottomline, how do we get application B(which in our case is the custom plugin) to log messaged the console just like that done by application A(oms.ear).
    I am sure OSM developers would like to leverage log4j bundled with OSM SDK to log messages that would aid in trouble-shooting during development cycles. Both application ear files have commons-logging-1.1.jar,log4j-1.2.13.jar, omslogging.jar available in their classpaths. In other words, META-INF/MANIFEST.MF file of oms.war(web module within oms.ear) and xyz.jar(ejb module within xyz.ear) has references to these jars.
    Appreciate if one can reply and let me know if they could get log messages to print from custom plugin.
    Thanks

    $$$$$$$$ log4j initialization by application classloader for oms.ear application $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
    log4j: Trying to find [log4j.xml] using context classloader weblogic.utils.classloaders.GenericClassLoader@1592141 finder: weblogic.utils.classloaders.CodeGenClassFinder@1112e85 annotation: oms@.
    log4j: Using URL [zip:/home/osmwl/bea/user_projects/domains/dev04/servers/osmdev04/tmp/_WL_user/oms/amuube/omslogging.jar!/log4j.xml] for automatic log4j configuration.
    log4j: Preferred configurator class: org.apache.log4j.xml.DOMConfigurator
    log4j: System property is :null
    log4j: Standard DocumentBuilderFactory search succeded.
    log4j: DocumentBuilderFactory is: org.apache.xerces.jaxp.DocumentBuilderFactoryImpl
    $$$$$$$$ log4j initialization by application classloader for custom automation plugin xyz.ear application $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
    log4j: Trying to find [log4j.xml] using context classloader weblogic.utils.classloaders.GenericClassLoader@1b7a8c5 finder: weblogic.utils.classloaders.CodeGenClassFinder@10bc849 annotation: xyz.ear@.
    log4j: Using URL [zip:/home/osmwl/bea/user_projects/domains/dev04/servers/osmdev04/tmp/_WL_user/xyz.ear/ah0eeq/omslogging.jar!/log4j.xml] for automatic log4j configuration.
    log4j: Preferred configurator class: org.apache.log4j.xml.DOMConfigurator
    log4j: System property is :null
    log4j: Standard DocumentBuilderFactory search succeded.
    log4j: DocumentBuilderFactory is: weblogic.xml.jaxp.RegistryDocumentBuilderFactory
    log4j: debug attribute= "false".
    Thanks

    "Otherwise let me know tools that can tell me threads, memory, cpu, etc and provide notification, etc." -- Hi, I'm familiar with a third-party tool that is suitable for larger deployments, it collects the data you mention for Weblogic instances and also does performance monitoring at the cluster level. Here is a description of their WebLogic integration pack -- http://www.evidentsoftware.com/products/clearstone-for-weblogic/. Hope this helps.

    We have performed workload manager tuning in weblogic console as below.
    The property ‘Maximum Threads Constraint’ of work managers OIMMDBWorkManager = 80 and OIMUIWorkManager = 20
    Please suggest the solution.

    Hi,
    If you look more closely at the STUCK Thread stack trace, you will notice that the thread is attempting to acquire a LOCK on the following Object monitor: java.io.PrintStream@41a53700. The native thread state is also in a BLOCKED state.
    My primary recommendation is to generate a full JVM Thread Dump (next re-occurence) so we can identify the potential culprit Thread holding such lock. One more thing, please see if you have multiple snapshots of this thread 294?
    I also recommend to review the following source code:
    com.wyndham.operations.user.eventHandlers.PostCreateOperationsEventHandler.execute(PostCreateOperationsEventHandler.java:60)
    Sharing the same Stream object in this case would trigger thread lock contention given java.io.PrintStream has built-in synchronization ex:
       public void println(String x) {
      synchronized (this) {
         print(x);
         newLine();

    Any ideas about it?

    The core problem is: when I try to change, add or remove something from weblogic console, under weblogic domain/ pending folder, weblogic itself is creating a config.xml file with the changes that has been made but the content of it is wrong. It creates wrong xml files like, it includes 2 xsi attributes in it, it adds xmlns to each element in the xml file and the new one: it gives a different error when I try to add a new datasource. The error is
    Console encountered the following error com.rsa.jsafe.JSAFE_PaddingException: Could not perform unpadding: invalid pad byte.
    Any ideas ?

  • Ldap connection with weblogic console and authentification with java

    Hello,
    I want that my web application use ldap authentification for users and that all parameters (host, port, base, ...) are configured by weblogic console.
    I managed to do it by security-->realms-->.... , but now, I want to perform authentification in my java code.
    I don't know how realized it because I don't know how use my ldap connection in java code without redefine parameters into my code...
    can anyone help me please?
    thanks a lot for your help.

    Hey,
    on a windows server system you have to put the target system CA Certificate in the local Trusted System Certificate Store of Microsoft Server. Then the connection should work.
    On a Java System you have to put the CA in the Key Storage of the SAP System.
    I think on Unix you could use the SAPCRYPTOLIB to place the CA in  the abap system.
    Kind regards,
    Sven Walter

    Hi,
    I guess your changes did not get saved into the config.xml yet, because you have already a similar entry in config.xml file for it.
    There is xml created under pending dir, everytime we try to create a DS
    but it never completes and never gets saved (You will see in top left corner of weblogic console saying changes are pending something like that)
    1) So, copy the DS xmls for each new DS created temporarily under jdbc dir to a temp directory
    2) Now, click on the undo changes in the top left corner of your weblogic console
    3) Place the DS xml file in its correct location from temporary dirctory (you did this copy in step-1 )
    4) Now, Manually enter or change the DS xml filename entry in config.xml.
    5) Bounce the weblogic managed servers and admin server, It will work

  • Is their a way to set system property in weblogic console

    Hi WL USERS
    Is their a way to set system property in weblogic console ie (http://localhost:8080/console) ? if yes, can we access that property in code using System.getProperty()?
    Regards
    vishy

    Yes, It is Possible.
    Please check the Option-1). Mention in the Following Link: http://weblogic-wonders.com/weblogic/2010/03/26/nodemanager-based-managedservers-setting-mem_args/
    Here i tried to set a Custom Property "*-Duser.dir=E:/MyDirectory*" through the Admin Console.
    NOTE: Setting any Option like JAVA_OPTIONS/CLASSPATh etc through Admin Console will work only when you start your Servers using the NodeManager. It means when you start your ManagedServers through AdminConsole...or Using nodeManager based WLST scripts.
    Thanks

  • Read-only access to weblogic console in WL 6.1sp2

    Is there a way to restrict a user to read-only priv. on the weblogic
    console? Either by using acl's or other means.
    Thanks in advance,
    Brown

    Brown,
    This functionality is not available in 6.1. The newest version of wls
    8.1 has this feature depending on the role that the user is in.

    what version JDK you are using?
    If you are on JDK 117 , make sure you have classes.zip available in
    your java classpath
    i.e. java -classpath $JDK_HOME/lib/classes.zip;$WL_HOME/classes/boot:$WL_HOME/
    lib/weblogicaux.jar weblogic.Console
    let us know if you are still having problems..

    Hi John,
    Might be a configuration error. Could you tell me which version, including
    service-pack level, of WLCS/WLPS and WLS that you are running? sp2 for WLCS
    3.5 removes console.war from your WLCS installation. That is because WLCS 3.5
    sp2 is the port from WLS 6.0 to WLS 6.1. In WLS 6.1, there is no console
    application because it became internal.
