Performance of bulkloader vs. other commandline tools

I have created a large LDIF that I would like to insert into OID. Does anyone know which is the quicker mechanism to use: bulkloader or tools such as ldapadd?

Now there's an open question (ie: which is better, Ford or Chevy).
I'm sure this has been address on this forum before so you might want to perform a search for this subject.
However, dipping my toes in the pool ...
1. Oracle is pushing Discoverer as an important tool in their repertoire. Future versions will now interface with XML Publisher (now BI Publisher), etc. so it's tightly inter-woven into Oracle. BO, Cognos, etc. are 3rd. party tools and therefore not tightly woven.
2. If running Oracle Apps, then you can use the BIS views for pre-written views, Disco workbooks, etc. It's simply not practical to try to use BIS without Discoverer.
3. Newest version of Disco (10g r2) now supports OLAP. Badly ... but it's a start.
4. Oracle is really pushing the idea of everything being in the database and therefore they are pushing OLAP, DW stuff in the database along with your relational stuff. What this means in tools is that they're strongly pushing Disco with OLAP instead of a customer having to buy hardware, software (ie: Hyperion, Cognos, etc.), people (dbas to manage, software types to program), etc. and exporting your data from the Oracle database to a 3rd. party database to then report on. Again, Disco with OLAP (and someday if actual possible / practical) mixing your OLTP stuff with OLAP stuff.
5. It's been awhile since I used BO and Cognos so not sure if their newest versions have the same idea of 3 versions (well 2 someday) where you create the report with Plus (or Desktop) and allow users to lightly manipulate (but not create) existing reports using a simple HTML browser (Viewer).
6. Discoverer is a neat name as it sounds like you're stuttering ...
I'm sure they'll be lots of other reasons stated by others on this board, but if I was betting the farm on where to go, I would go with Discoverer if I had an Oracle installation. It'll cost you - and Oracle is definitely in it for making a buck or two - but if you're in for a penny with Oracle databases, etc., then you're in for a pound and using 3rd party tools that may do the same, less or even a bit more, never appeals to me as Oracle will either catch up and surpass them ... or let's be realistic ... buy them out! Like Microsoft, they've been doing that lately with a spare few billion dollars falling out of Larry's pockets.

Dtr commandline tool time out

hi,
i try to delete workspaces using the dtr commandline tool, e.g.
deleteworkspace -w //XSS6CU15/sap.com_SAP_ESS/cons/active/
for big workspaces like ess i get the following error
Could not delete workspace //XSS6CU15/sap.com_SAP_ESS/cons/active/. Communication error [cause: Read timed out]
does anybody know how to solve this problem? can this time out be configured somewhere?

Hello Heiko,
can you make a try to delete bottom-up to see whether this is a general communication problem or really only realted to large workspaces? Please also make a try to do the deletion using the dtr console instead of the dtr command line tool. You find it under: /usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/global/com.sap.dtr.console (on unix you need to replace the ";" by a ":" in the run.bat script). The usage is pretty straightforward, and you can alsways refer to its built in help.

I want to create a pop up calendar in adobe acrobat or any other adobe tool via adobe javascript in a PDF form .
I wish to create the calendar without any third party tool.
I found few options like formrouter and also pdf scripting.
But I was to create the calendar via pure Adobe Javascript. If no such option is there inbuilt pop up calendar control in any adobe tool to design the PDF form and afterwards save the same as PDF.

All 3 of the options provide are all JavaScript. There is no plug-in used. You do need to place the JavaScript code text file into a special folder so that the menu and tool bar tools that allow execution of the JavaScript code and associate the pop-up calendar with a specific field.

BPM TOOL, what is Visual Composer Vs any other BPM Tool

Could you please share information regarding using a modeling tool to author business process [as-is/to-be]
ours is new implemantation and we already own sap business suite software, and our implementation /configuration Team is considering of using a bpm tool to do capture the processes.
my question is what leverage can we take of Visual Composer ? when compared with other BPM Tool.

If you have license for SAP Suite, then there is lot of things you can leverage with VC than it being useless if otherwise.
1. You can combine the output from the quick design and code free modeling environment of Visual Composer with the output from a full coding environment like Web Dynpro ABAP or BSP? Actually you can do just such a thing thanks to Portal Eventing. You can trigger event from VC. Yes, you can combine ABAP and VC
2. You can extend Visual Composer through Web Services
3. You can do an MDM integration in VC - combining data from varied sources
4. You can build a Web Services Based Visual Composer Application. Visual Composer has the capability to easily link to and consume a web service from within the SAP NetWeaver Visual Composer storyboard.
Also, if you are using BSP, these applications can be linked into a Visual Composer application. The linking is done via portal eventing. Linking these two technologies into a single application with receiving and parsing the Visual Composer event string from within ABAP.
5. SAP has released 300+ Enterprise Services and there are many ways to consume these. A BPX can use Visual Composer and the Composite Application Framework (CAF) to consume SAP Enterprise Services using MDD - Model drived development.
6. SAP NetWeaver Visual Composer users can develop rich graphical interfaces that extend current investments in their SAP NetWeaver infrastructure by using Flex technology (colloboration with Macromdeia) , and businesses can gain credible, clear and comprehensive business insights through new analytics solutions. There are 100+ IS specific Analytic Applications.
With the new improvements in VC 7.0 it is very clear that the future benefits align and will be much more leveraged with Visual composer

Hi ,
I am using SQL DM 3.0.0.665. I need your thoughs on following.
As we build our logical/physical models in SQL data Modeler, we create our metadata for our attributes/columns.
After creating our physical model, other BI and reporting tools acquire access to the physical tables. Each tool has a process of creating their reporting layer and able to bring the tables/columns into reporting layer. It shows the column names as it is. It is not business friendly.
Do we have a mechanism to export attribute business names as meta data of DB tables?
If we define the meta data as part of physical model using modeling tools such as Oracle SQL Developer or ERWIN, will we able to import those into BI tools as report elements meta data?
Where can I find details?
How do we do that?

Hi,
there is no problem if you are building reports on top of our reporting repository - table DMRS_MAPPINGS holds information for pairs - (entity- table), (attribute-column)...., and you can take implementation and business name.
Exchange to BI tools - you need to know how particular BI tool can recognize and link implementation and business names and then you can use transformation script in order to provide required information. There are examples on this forum how to deal with files and database connection using transformation script.

What to include to promote TFS against other similar tools?

Some of our TFS users are switching to different tools (Jira, GitHub, etc.) due to various reasons, such as better branch & merge functionality, remote dev advantage, open source and more current tools, and such.
As a TFS admin, I would like to communicate with the current users with something written, kind of like a promote of TFS against the other equivalent tools. But I would like it to be brief, clear, and making sense in an enterprise environment, I know
I can dig tons of info from internet, but I don't like to make it a long argument with tedious comparisons.
Can anybody throw some your thoughts if you are facint the same situation?
Our TFS users are mainly engineers from different teams, the teams work on very different products.

Is Flash Builder 4.5 compatible with other Adobe tools from CS5?

I have in my company CS5 Suite and we are planning to upgrade only Flash Builder from 4 to 4.5. Would it be still compatible with other CS5 tools, e.g. with Flash Profetional 5?

To use ADF with other Development tool

Can I plug the the ADF framework into other development tools such as the IBM's[b] websphere studio and Borland's JBuilder?
(Currently neither the WebSphere Studio nor the JBuilder, to the best of my knowledge, has the capability of the ADF has. Basically, with those tools you have to write a lot of codes to do the database updates, etc.)

ADF is a bunch of Jar files and the application is a bunch of Java and XML files - so yes you can take this and use any IDE to edit the files.
But currently JDeveloper is the only tool that has the visual development environment for ADF.

Each and every tool has its own flexibility to run. Coming to your question, the use of dashboards is to view the data by more interactive other tool cannot comprise it. when you say, if i want to develop the same sort of requirement in other BO tool, then you need to check with positive and negative of the tool to accommodate your logic.

SAPBI data accessing from Business objects and other OLAP tools

We already have heavy usage of Business Object, Essbase and are planning to implement SAPBI 7.0
    a) We are planning to connect our existing Business
        Objects infrastructure onto the new SAPBI platform, Did
        You experience any issues such as performance,
        config issues, delays, web issues.. is there any
        document or link with steps involved in integrating
        Business objects and SAPBI
     b) Can Bex analyzer gives simliar functionalities that
        are in Essabse front- end (EXCEL), I know that the
        backend data managament is quite different, but my
        question is around user interface, do you have any
        comparisons between these two tools.
     c) Is it possible to get data from SAPBI using external
        reporting tools (OLAP) such as Oracle Discoverer ...

if the export to XML file is successful, the file will not be deleted if you are creating it from Metadata Exchange.
The file gets deleted in case you are using the create universe option and by default the file is created in %LINK_DIR%\log\MetadataExchange, you will also see ME_errorlog.txt and ME_outputlog.txt if there are any errors, do you see and erros in these files if you are creating the Universe directly from DS Designer ?
to use Metadata Exchange do the following
Open Data Services Desginer
Click on tools Menu -> Metadata Exchange
In the Metadata Exchange window
Select Export Data Services metadata to a file
Select DI CWM as metadata format
enter location for xml file (C:\temp)
Select the datastore you want to create Universe for
Click OK
Check for file named repo_export.xml in the C:\temp folder or the folder that you specified
Open Universe Builder and Select
Data Integrator bridge
and use the xml file as input to create universe

Editing Capability in FCE or other Mac Tools?

I'm a relative novice at HD video editing on the Mac and currently use iMovie for the editing I do. I recently shot some video of a speaker at a banquet. I set the camera on a tripod and started taping but couldn't stay with the camera during the presentation. To make a long story short, the tripod got bumped and the video is slightly skewed. Might not normally be annoyingly noticeable except that there is a chair rail behind the speaker, presenting a nice horizontal reference that is no longer horizontal. Thus my question...does FCE have the ability to correct rotation or "out-of-level" situations? Is there a tool like in Aperture that allows you to incrementally rotate the video to level? I've been considering stepping up to FCE anyway and this would clinch the decision. If not, can anyone suggest an application, within the price range of a casual user ($199+/-), that can do this?

A cheaper solution: quicktime Pro. There is a rotation property in Quicktime player PRO movie settings (command-J). I'm sure that you can flip to vertical etc, but not sure about a rotation by some degrees. Ask to quicktime forum:

You can cut your movie in iMovie in two parts: the straight one and the slanted one. Correct the rotation for the second one. Save as independant movie, import into iMovie and replace the slanted clip. You can add a short transition or a cut away (like a closeup on an hand writing some text or audience) to give a more natural look.
You will get black corners as stated, but _if the resulting movie is displayed on a TV set_, those corners will be losed in the overscan area. So, no need to scale up.
